Will Lion work......it just might...or not.

I have a 2006 17-inch iMac, first ever intel iMac.  It was originally a 1.83 Ghz Intel core duo.  I have since changed the processor to a T7600.  An intel core 2 duo 2.33Ghz with the 667Mhz Bus.  This is the fastest processor that you can put into that chip socket. It has been working flawlessly since Febuary this year. It also recognizes it in the system profiler stating the computer as "Intel core 2 duo" with the 2.33Ghz clock speed.
With this said, I am wondering if my comp will handle Lion since the processor required IS what I have....The only hiccup I can see is the graphics card.  Its a Radeon X1600 with 128MB.   It was not listed as a supported graphics card.  I do not think that this will be a deal breaker but I need a second opinion. Thoughts?

Your wifi will not support AirDrop either.
I'd be very cautious and make a mirror of your current drive first. Seems people with new machines are raving about how smooth it went and people with 3+ yr old platforms are having a lot of catastrophes.
Appears most of the people doing quality assurance all run the latest hardware.
Also examine closely your hardware peripherals and 3rd party software. I've got quite new but dead peripherals because some of the drivers had PowerPC components.
Good luck.

  • IMessage, will it work on an ipad2 wifi(not the 3g)??

tried using imessage last night, somethings not adding up. was able to send the message but it took like 10mins. to be recieved by the iphone4 and it says that message failed in red colour.

will it work on an ipad2 wifi(not the 3g)??
No, because iOS 5 does not support an iPhone 3G.
iCloud requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2; a Mac computer with OS X Lion

  • HT4648 So if you import a numbers document from a mac to iPad which has a conditional format rule such as a cell with a score between 1-10 fills with the colour black will still work on the iPad? Not being able to edit it just means you can't change this

I want to use numbers on my iPad mini for a team I coach. I have a spreadsheet on my mac I want to import onto the iPad mini for players to enter in wellness ratings. On this spreadsheet (on the mac) I have a conditioning formatting rule that when a player enters in their numbers the cells fill with black so others can't see their entries (to maintain privacy). Will this function import across onto iPad numbers? From the discussion I saw on this site it only partly answers my question stating "it cannot be edited" does this mean the conditional formatting rule cannot be changed and therefore will still work or the whole spreadsheet can't be edited and you can only view the spreadsheet and make no new entries to it?

Yes, I have posted this thread to different forums after I realized that Lenovo "customer care" is not likely to help me out and even wirelessforums.org members couldn't come up with any ideas for days, that's why. I have already written that helper applications like SMAC (or etherchange or macshift) don't work, because they do the same thing in the system as I change it in the driver panel, so they use the same method which simply does not work.
Locked? Definitely not. If yes, why can I change the MAC of my adapter under Ubuntu Linux using b43 open-source driver if it's really locked? Or you mean it's locked from software, because Lenovo or Broadcom didn't want their users to change their MACs or they just forgot to release a fully-functional driver? Well, then I would like to have a driver in which it's not locked, because this is a basic feature of my adapter of which the hardware is capable.
I have already contacted Broadcom, see their (automatically-generated) answer in my initial post, but I will try to do that again with more foresight.

  • Will Lion work ok with Logic Pro and 3rd party plugins?

Will Lion OS work ok with Logic Pro and 3rd party plugins?
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Regards James

Well, Sylenth I know... works under Logic Pro 9 and it should be found by left clicking and holding... the Software Insturment Button (The one just below where it says i/o and then scrolling down in the menu that appears to the Instrument section below the Apple Plugins...
I don't know about Massive 1.01 because i think that one is not Logic 9 compatible because it is so old.... and I have never used Vanguard... but according to it's specs the latest version should be found in the same place as Sylenth...
Both Sylenth and Vanguard are 32bit plugins...
...and.. it probably doesn't help that you are using older/not 'legal' copies of these plugins.... *ahem*

  • Will Lion work with older programs

I have lots of older programs including Adobe CS, Adobe CS3, Eudora 6.2, etc. that work fine on my iMac running 10.6.8 with i3 processor, will they work with Lion if I upgrade? Just checking before I download the update. Thanks for any info.

CS3 runs but reportedly has issues. Adobe CS, the original version, will not work, nor will any application that is PowerPC only, since Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications. If you don't know what apps are PowerPC only, Get Info on the app, and in the Kind section, it will say. Apps that say either "Intel" or "Universal" at least have the potential to run, though there are other factors involved in Lion compatibility. The RoaringApps site is a useful resource:
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
though the most definitive method of confirming compatibility is to check with the developer.

  • I want to know about 4G LTE will be worked in Abu Dhabi or not? I have purchased recently.

I have purchased a I phone 6 64 GB and it will be delivered by Oct-23 to 28. I dont know about 4G LTE means. I want to know whether this technology can be worked in Abu dhabi or not? or i should have to stop delivery. I am very much helpful if you give answer at earliest. Thanks

You have to ask the carrier that you'll be using in your country whether they support 4G/LTE.
If you order iPhone from a different country then it's a different story.

  • Will Lion work with Lightroom 3 or 4? Partition to keep 10.6.8 OS?

Just received my new MBP (not retina) with Lion. It's a base model in which I will be  swapping out the HD & RAM for: Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 32 MB Cache 2.5 Inch Solid State Hybrid Drive ST750LX003 AND: Corsair 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 SODIMM Memory Kit.
I'd wanted to use Lightroom to learn work with RAW images on an upcoming trip, but now realize it likely isn't compatible with the new OS--Am I right? Is Aperature pretty much the only alternative?
OTOH, since there are 2-3 programs I'd like access to which I know won't work well with Lion--iWeb, Solitaire Till Dawn...I was wondering if it would make sense to partition off part of the 750GB drive to keep a copy of 10.6.8, on which I'm pretty sure both LR 3 & 4 would work.
    Thoughts on this?
    Thanks,
    Karen

  • Will Lion work with FCP6

Just bought an iMac with snowleopard and can load Lion, wondering if there's any conflict with FCP6?
Also for the first time my Mac is connected, my old G4 wasn't connected, I used my PC for internet.
Should I consider a virus software, ie Nod 32 or similar. I only use the Mac for FCP and iDVD, other than that I use 2 laptop PC's for everything else, incl email.

Here's my advice: If you plan to keep running FCP 7, FCP 6 or any of the legacy Final Cut Studio apps, do not, REPEAT: DO NOT upgrade your computer in any way whatsoever beyond what works now. Since Apple made the sudden and unannounced decision to pull support for FCP 7 and earlier, you cannot trust them to make sure that newer any newer OS or QuickTime version will be compatible with software that they've chosen to make obsolete.
If you want to go ahead and upgrade anyway, do so at your own risk. Apple won't be there to back you up when it fails.

if you have lion can you tell me if lion will work on my mac up there ^ I put all that you need to know to know if I can run it on my macbook pro!

First of all you do not have a PowerPC Mac as stated in the title of this thread. You have a MacBook Pro which has an Intel processor.
Having said that your MBP is not capable of running Lion because while the processor is Intel, it is Intel Core Duo.
Lion requires a Intel Core 2 Duo instead.

  • I have a mac mini, will lion work?

It is a core 2 with a 667mhz bus from 2008. It has 2GB but I am not sure it is all addressable with this model. Here are the rest of the specs:
    Model Name:          Mac mini
      Model Identifier:          Macmini1,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz

      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          4 MB
      Memory:          2 GB
      Bus Speed:          667 MHz

    Hi Susato
In my understanding of the installer, I don't know of any way to hack it so that it will work. I know of a couple of Mac users that have attempted to go that route so far without any success.
Yes, playing around with Folding@Home was great fun. The PowerMac G5 Quad I was using blew a processor and the cost to repair was too great so I upgraded to my current Mac Pro with two 6-Core Intel Xeon and 12 GB of RAM.
I thought that would be a good one to use with F@H but I ran into so many problems with it on Intel I gave up.

  • When will Lion be released on DVD and not through the App Store?

I know this is probably not the right place to be asking this question but from whay I heard today that Lion will only be released through the App Store. I sure hope Apple changes their mind on this before July since I don't have the bandwidth to do this and I don't doubt that their are millions of other that are in the same boat.

They won't; at least they aren't with the new Mac mini and MacBook Air. They're taking a page from the WIndows world and putting a recovery partition on the hard drive rather than including reinstallation disks.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/
There is nothing from Apple to indicate that Lion will ever be available on DVDs (they will sell it on a USB flash drive starting sometime next month) nor that Apple will include separate installation media with any new Mac.
    Regards.
