Will Logic Express 8 run if I upgrade my G3 B&W?

My system I'm running at the moment is: G3 PowerMac 400Mhz/1MB Cache
512MB PC100 RAM
ATI Rage128 16MB Video Card
MOTU PCI-324 Audio Card/MOTU 2408 MKII
Adaptec SCSI PCI Card
Western Digital 40GB IDE Hard Drive
Original Apple 9GB Hard Drive
40GB IBM 10000Rpm SCSI Hard Drive
17GB IBM 10000Rpm SCSI Hard Drive
I am looking at upgrading the Processor to: G4 1GHz Powerlogix ZIF Upgrade
1GB PC100 RAM
ATI Radeon 9200 Mac Edition 128MB
If I upgrade to this will my machine then run Logic Express 8, or will it do as it does now and just act like it is starting by bouncing the icon in the dock then stopping? At the moment I cannot run Adobe CS3 Design/Web Premium or my Logic Express 8. Please Help!!!

Hi Spencer,
As a general rule the minumum system requirements listed for a software are just that, the minimum required for the effective use of the program. If you make the changes you're talking about you may be able to run the program but it will probably not run well. I'm running Express 8 on a 1.83GHz intel iMac with 2 gigs ram. My current project involves only seven software instruments and six enternal midi tracks (which use almost no cpu) and I'm still nearing %70 on my cpu meter. Before I finish I will definately be freezing tracks to free up cpu. My system is much faster and double the ram of what you're talking about. If you really want to run Express 8 properly you will probably need to replace your computer.

  • Will logic pro x run on my mac mini dual core intel i5 with 4gb of ram and mountain lion ?

    hi there guys,
will logic pro x run on my mac mini dual core intel i5 with 4gb of ram and mountain lion ?
I'm not sure if my machine is 64 bit - it is the current model base mac mini.
Many thanks for any help you can offer !

SkiJumptoes is right. 4GB is not enough to comfortably run Logic X.
Your Mac Mini will need DDR3 SODIMM RAM. That website seems incredibly steep though. I guess that's the price of finding it for you. You're better off going to any below:

  • Will Logic Pro 9 run on a 2007 4GB ram, 320GB hard drive, Intel 2 duo 2ghz mac mini?

"Will Logic Pro 9 run on a 2007 4GB ram, 320GB hard drive, Intel 2 duo 2ghz mac mini?"
I am looking for the cheapest way possible to run Logic Pro 9 and will purchase a second hand mac mini if it will run the software.
    Thank you!

Yes it will.. I would recommend you use the combination of  Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and LPv9.1.5 (or 9.1.8 if you have to..) with that particular hardware to get the best performance out of it... I would not recommend running any OS X version higher than 10.6.8 as each new version of OS X from then onwards.. placed a bigger performance hit on the hardware... and frankly, less stability with LP9.
As to how well it will run on that hardware.. will more depend on the sort of loads you place on it.. depending on the type and content of the music you wish to compose... It will run and you should be able to create reasonable sized projects.. but again, it all depends on the plugins used.. the number of them... the number of tracks and so on... so to give a more precise answer is difficult.

  • Will Logic Studio AUs run in Logic Express 9

I have Logic Studio 8, with tons of additional AUs that I purchased. I am thinking of purchasing Logic Express 9, and was wondering if the AUs from Logic Studio will work in Logic Express 9.
Also, I hear, (but am not sure) that  Logic Express doesn’t come with:
space and delay designer components or the Sculpture, EVB3 Tonewheel Organ, EVD6 Clavinet, and EVP88 Electric Piano synths
Since I have these programs listed above in Logic Studio, will they run in Logic Express if I have Logic Express installed on the same computer?
    Thanks
    Chaz

    Hi
    A few things to note:
Logic Express has been discontinued, so unless you can find someone who has an old copy for sale, you must now buy Logic Pro from the Appstore. There is NO upgrade path.
Logic Express did not include Sculpture, EVP88, EVD6, EVB3; they are in Logic Pro

  • Logic Express 9 running with Tascam US-122 - possible?

    Hello,
I've been scouring support forums and the Logic user manual all day and unfortunately cannot seem to find an answer to this:
Is it at all possible to run Logic Express 9 with the Tascam US-122?
I've just converted from PC to Mac in the last couple of weeks: all of my software and drivers are all up-to-date so that should not be an issue. Obviously that means that I've previously been using my Tascam with Cubase on the PC, and I was really hoping it would cope with Logic too. The problem is that Logic does recognize the Tascam but when it comes to recording, I can't get it to work. Apparently it's something to do with the sample rate?
Please help - if it can be avoided, I don't want to have to buy another device. Any advice or answers would be very much appreciated!
    Thank you.

It sounds like you have the same setup as us.
I (oops, wife) has a brand new iMac, a Tascam US-122L and a Yamaha KX8 controller. She started with GarageBand, then bought Logic Express 9 and just yesterday we ordered the upgrade to Logic Studio.
Like any new computer setup of course nothing worked right away.
She plugs her guitar into the Tascam but it didn't work until we changed to Input 2 in Logic (or was it GarageBand, sorry I am getting them confused).
Anyway, my point is that you should not need any more hardware to make it work. We have yet to plug a mike into the Tascam...that will be the fun for the weekend....lol
    Good luck,
    Paul

  • Will Logic Express and Logic Pro X co-exist on my Mac?

I use Logic Express. If I buy Logic Pro X can I have both versions on my Mac? I assume I'll eventually move to the new version, but just incase I have issues?
    thanks.

Mate, it will run absolutely fine... But like with most DAW's it will be hosting other plugins, so alot depends on what you have running at once.  But an i5 w/8gb well probably take more than what you will throw at it if you're only just starting out - It's when you get into serious sound and mastering where you need high end processing power.
However, saying that you can bounce down realtime pluging into audio files so that free's your CPU up.  Plus, in my experience Logic is very efficient as it disables plugins etc. when they're not producing sound.
Have you already got an audio interface?
The only issue you will have is screen size on a 13" MBP, i did post a get around to give you more resolution on here a while back, i will try and find it for you - Just incase you need more res.  The Logic X interface is a little 'bigger' so tends to cram on a 13".

  • Can logic express 7 run on a macbook osx 10.6.8,2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo, 2gb ram?

I have Logic express 7.2 on an iMacppc g5.  will it also run on a Mac book with the above description?
    MK

I too am having the exact same problem, I've been using G4 for 2 years with Logic Express 7.0.1. I've just tried to install on intel G5 10.6.8. Snow Leopard - I've inserted disks, installed software, opened Applications and nothing has happened, nothing there
I've had a good look on Apple's site, downloaded several updates and still nothing, could this be because my version of Logic is for Power PC and G5 is intel processor?
    Many Thanks

  • Will logic express 9 be on the mac app store?

    Hey guys,
i noticed aperture 3 on the app store for £49, whereas to buy the disc version it is £173
i was just wondering if they would be doing a similar thing with logic express 9,
    thanks!
    from alex,

Honestly? I hope not, because this forum would be overrun by newbies who take Logic for granted and don't consider it's a pro app with a steep learning curve. In this "brave new world" all the kids just no longer know how to spend time for even reading a simple manual, not to speak of the Logic user manual, which looks like rocket science to many of them, i assume.
Through all times, the art of making music, recording and mixing demanded time, effort, experience and patience. I learned it the hard way, and i really know what i got from Logic. It's fantastic. So i was willing to pay the price for it, because it's valuable for me.
Not that i want to be it expensive (i would like to have payed less, too), but i see the downsides, also. People who simply buy it because it's cheap (and not because they need it), but who don't know nothing about making music, recording and the most basic things and then run down the forum complaining how "complicated" this app is.
So, enough for the ranting. Surely i'd like to get the next version of Logic spending less money myself

  • Logic won't run after leopard upgrade

I recently upgraded to OS X Leopard and ever since I upgraded, Logic has been giving me this error:
Logic Express has detected a possible conflict
between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers.
I use the tascam us-224 I/O, and before the upgrade, it worked great.
any help on how to get logic to work again would be very appreciative.

Looks like you're tripping over driver issues. You'll need to go to the websites of all the hardware and inserts that are part of your system and get Leopard compatible drivers. I know, I know. They ought to work but they don't. There appears to either be poor backward compatibility or the third parties are crap at coding.
Others have reported that more recent products than the 224 are not working (despite the Tascam website saying they do). The 224 is now officially a Legacy product. You may be out of luck but, at the least, you need to check what Tascam support says.
Best of luck - their "customer support" is the stuff of legends...

  • Logic Express 7.0.1 Update/Upgrade

    Hello,
I have Logic Express version 7.0.1 and never did get the "paid" upgrade to Logic Express version 7.1 (or was it version 7.2?). I'm wondering what the latest version of Logic Express 7 is and how I would go about getting the update/upgrade to 7.1 (or 7.2)?
I use GarageBand most of the time and don't use Logic Express a lot so I don't really want to fork out the cash to move to version 8 but it would be nice to see it updated somehow. Logic Express 7.0.1 seems to work fine on 10.5.6 for me, by the way.
I just can't seem to find any info on Apple's website about the version 7.1 (or 7.2) update/upgrade.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Thanks so much,
    Gerard

I don't see any problem with trying LE7 in a Leopard environment. Usually newer OS have backwards compatibility with older software. However, just in case, have all your valuable data backed up before upgrading. With all bases covered you can easily revert to the old setup if something goes wrong under Leopard. The only thing you can lose is time spent to re-install Tiger and LE7.

  • Will Logic Express export all tracks in mono?

Will be mixing a Logic Express project in ProTools, but can't seem to find a way to export all tracks mono.
At first I thought I must be overlooking something obvious, but am beginning to think it's not possible.

I should add that if you do, in fact, actually want to export mono files you need to:
    1) solo the track you want to export
    2) change the output in the channel strip to mono
    3) click on the bounce button on the output strip
    4) repeat for each track

  • Upgrade from Logic Express 9 to 9.01 - Upgrade wont recognize my software although it is in the application folder. Any ideas?

My Logic Express 9.0 is definetly in the Applications folder but the upgrade doesnt find it or says that it is ineligable. Any ideas?

    Hi
Make sure that your Logic Express app is a) in the Applications Folder (and not in another folder inside Applications), and b) that it is named "Logic Express" with no numbers or spaces after the name.

  • How to connect my Alesis to Logic Express Pro, running on an Intel Mac Mini

    Hi,
would anyone possibly have an idea how to connect my Alesis Multimix 8 USB to Logic Express 7,2?
The Alesis has a USB out. But I don't see anything in the L/E documentation on USB connections.
    I'm hopeful there's another way.
    Thanks very much.
    -peter

LE documentation won't give instructions for use of 3rd party equipment, except possibly generically.
Have you downloaded the latest drivers? If it is a USB item, perhaps you are meant to plug in the USB cable rather than wishing it was something else.

  • Will Logic Express ever do non-realtime effects processing?

This is the single reason I don't use Logic. From what I have seen so far, I think the program is incredible, apart from the fact that for my needs, the lack of a sound file processing with preview function renders Logic unusable as a production tool. If this functionality were added I'd buy it, simple as that. Please Apple, make me happy. PLEASE.
    thanks.

There is no reason at all to put the blame on the software, Michael. First and foremost, software is just a tool. Just like a regular tool, an electric drill for example: if one doesn't know how to use it properly and gets a serious trauma as a result, it's them to blame not the tool. It doesn't mean that the tool is a "piece of crap." That would be a wrong logical conclusion, if you know what I mean.
Now, when saving a project for the first time Logic always asks you what to do with external audio recordings, doesn't it? You can also configure the program in the Project Settings, instructing it on how to handle the Assets (recordings, samples, etc). What happened to you is simply that the Assets were not included in the projects. Next time you record, just tick the appropriate option before saving your files, ok?
Identical files of your project are nothing more than automatic backups that Logic creates when your work is in progress.
Now, let me explain what you did wrong (yes, you did!). Logic Express is a very sophisticated piece of software. It requires that you at least read getting started manual and skip through important parts of user manual, if you don't have the time to go through it thoroughly. So, you just began to record without knowing what happens when you use Logic and the peculiarities of its workflow. And the outcome is quite natural. Don't blame the software, blame yourself for it!
PS: Try looking for your recordings in users/<your user name>/Music/Logic. If you are lucky your files are there
Also, read "Working with Projects" section of the User Manual on p.137
