Will migrating my iPhoto library use up iCloud storage?

Hi! If I migrate my 50GB iPhoto library to Photos will it upload it all to iCloud? this would take up far to much storage on my iOS devices
Also...... how do I actually migrate it ?? I can't work it out.
Thanks for your help!

It will only use your iCloud storage allocation if you enable iCloud photo library, if you use photo stream and iCloud photo sharing it will use the cloud but this use won't count towards your allocation of iCloud space.
When you open your old library with Photos for the first time the Photos app will automatically update your library for you.

  • .Photos shows no photos after migration from iPhotos Library.

I migrated an iPhotos Library to Photos Library.  Both files are around 409GB.  If I open the file packages I can see the photos.  However Photos opens an shows nothing.  And iPhotos is now useless so I can not get to pictures!
And I have already tried the repair process a few times.
    Thanks

    Hi cwsummers,
I understand that your current iPhoto Library and the photos therein are not being shown in the new Photos app. Here is an article that will help you choose this library file for you to use:

  • How do I backup my iPhoto library to the iCloud?

How do I backup my iPhoto library to the iCloud?

You can only backup the iPhoto libraries on iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPad) to iCloud, not the iPhoto Libraries on a Mac. Use Time Machine to backup your iPhoto Library or create clones of the drives with iPhoto Libraries.
This will change next year, when the new Photos.app will be released for Mac on the new MacOS X 10.10. Then you will be able to store the photo library in the cloud and access it from all your devices.

  • When I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.

So starting recently (last couple of months) when I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.  There's nothing there, it's just completely blank, when in the past my whole iPhoto library would show up with thumbnails and I could just choose the pic to attach.  Now I have to drag the photos I want from iPhoto onto the desktop and then I can find them there to attach to my e-mail.  How can I get my iPhoto library to show back up the simple way when I want to attach photos?  I've been having this problem attaching photos in hotmail or yahoo.

It should be an attachment.  Your Mac just displays a preview of certain attachments (such as .pdfs) in the body of the message.  A PC, for example, will see it as an attached file rather than a preview.
You can save the attachment on your Mac by Control-clicking on it and selecting Save Attachment.

  • When opening the latest version of Iphoto an error message appears that says; You can't open your current iphoto library using this version of Iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the lat

When opening the version of Iphoto i have an error message appears that says; You can't open your current iphoto library using this version of Iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto. What? If I can't open the current library using the latest version of iphoto, and I am asked to make changes the the newest version!!! I'm asked to run in circles chasing my tail...I had a new hard drive installed about 6 weeks ago. I am running MAC OS 10.5.8

What version of iPhoto do you have? If you're on 10.5 then you're not running the latest iPhoto
Any chance that the library was opened with another version?
Simplest solution will be to just restore from your back up.

  • I have recently downloaded OS X lion and I want to upgrade iPhoto to use with iCloud. I can't find the software update anywhere where can I get this?

I have recently downloaded IOS X Lion and I want to upgrade Iphoto to use with ICloud, I can't see the upgraded anywhere on the computer in system updates or on APP store updates. Where can I find this?

If you have lion and iPhoto '11 (latest version is 9.2.1) you can set up and turn on iCloud there and if you have IOS 5 on your mobile then your mobile devices will sync with your Mac
If this does not cover what you need please describe your situation in more detail

  • All of a sudden, I'm getting an error that says I can't open my current iPhoto library using this version of iPhoto. Then it tells me to use the latest version. But I don't know how and I don't know when it changed....

I cannot open iPhoto. The error reads: "You can't open your current iPhoto library using this version of iPhoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version."
But, I don't ever recall doing that, and I need to access my iPhoto. Anyone help?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Can I back up my Iphoto library to the Icloud - if so how

No, unfortunately you cannot do that. At the moment iCloud does only backup hotos of your camera roll. Please make a local backup of your pictures using a Mac/PC or any other cloud storage service like Dropbox.

  • How can I access the iphoto library using windows pc? Upgrading to aperture solves my problem?

How can I access the iphoto library using windows pc? Upgrading to aperture solves my problem?
My home network is used both by my macbook and my wife's windows pc. Considering that, I would like to know if we can share our pictures with each other (specially because I intend to store all of them into a NAS storage - WD My Cloud, probably).

No you can not - neither iPhoto nor Aperture has any cross platform capability
You can share photos with the PC using MyPhotoStream or Shared PhotoStreames
You can not share the iPhoto library
And you can not put the iPHoto library on a NAS - it MUST always be on a volume formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and mube on a fast wired local connection - it can not be on a Network
There are Digital Asset Managers that can do what you want - iPhoto and Aperture can not

  • How do I migrate my iPhoto library ?

    Hi there,
I'm about to install a SSD on my mid-2011 Mac Mini. Before I put the disk into the computer, I'm in the process of transfering my data on it.
I installed Mavericks and booted on the new system over USB, everything seems to be running fine.
I then copy/pasted my iPhoto library from my old HDD to the new SSD. Opening that library on the new setup works fine, but I have 2 albums showing up with some pictures that have no thumbnail along with a exclamation mark when I double click on them.
    That's the context.
    Here are my questions :
what's the best practice for migrating an iPhoto library ? Is that copy/paste thing a did OK ?
Why are these 2 albums ****** up ? Could they be corrupted on the initial library (they show up just fine on the old setup) ?
how can I fix this ?
    Thanks !

Seems I talked to fast,  the two albums that are corrupted are already awry on the HDD setup.
That's another problem, but my migration went fine then.
    Problem solved !

I have a limited storage in iPhone so i bought 20g iCloud. how can i use this iCloud storage in my device to store music and photos?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You could sign up for iTunes match and use iCloud photo library with optimisation enabled. The later will keep optimised photos on your device and iTunes match will let you access your whole collection and make room for newer content by removing older unplayed items.

  • My lost iPad is using my iCloud storage with new name.

I lost my iPad in Oct-2012. It appears that it was wiped out since it disappeared from Find My iPad list within 15 min of the incident.
However, now I can see that the iPad with new name is using the iCloud storage from my account.
Any hope to retrieve it. What should I do?
I did file the report with the police after the incident, but they have not taken any action so far (since I lost it in a store with survelliance camera, they could have asked the 15 min video).
    Thanks,
    -Naveen

You're a genius lol.. I posted the same question about a popup in the way so I can't unlock my screen. I thought if I turned it off and back on then the popup blocker should disappear, but I couldn't even access the power off slider. I never knew how to reset the iPad.. I did what you said and it worked.. yay. My iPad is back in business thanks to you lol... I saved $20 for a simple tech repair lol, I am a happy lady right now.
