Will mountain lion automatically update bootcamp to v4.x

I would like to upgrate to Mountain Lion from Lion.  Bootcamp is v3.1 and Bootcamp Assistant is v4.x.  I am running Windows XP and Quicken as a virtual machine using Parallels 8 and everything works fine.  If Mountain Lion automatically updates the Bootcamp partition to v4.x, I am concerned that I will lose the ability to continue to run XP as a virtual machine.  Thoughts?

Your Bootcamp version, partition and XP install will not change and you will not loose use of your XP install.
Only if you choose to reformat your drive within OSx using Bootcamp version 4 at some point may you loose option to reinstall XP.

If I upgrade to Lion now will mountain lion be a free update?

I really hope that Apple will do the right/ethical thing and give recent (within the 8-9 months) purchasers of macbook, macbook pros, macbook air, and people who just bought single OS copies of Lion OS-either a free copy of Mountain Lion or a huge discount price on the OS ($5.00 max ). Let's be honest here....Mountain Lion is the patched up Lion. Apple couldn't release an update large enough to fix the problems with Lion so they instead created a new OS. They know that is the truth.
As someone who  just bought a macbook pro that came pre-installed with Lion (had no choice really but to accept that or completly wipe it clean and try to put on Snow Leopard, but I was hesitant to because of being warned not to try that on the pre-installed macbook pros.) I don't feel it is right that I would have to pay for another OS when I was already supposed to have a functional OS included with my recent major purchase. Let's think about it for second: when I got a powerbook g4 around 2004/05 I paid about the same price as this macbook pro i now own. With that I got the lap top, the installer OS cds (a functional OS I  might add), manual, stickers, a vga adapter, s-output cord, ac adapter, ac extension cable, and phone cord. With the 2011 macbook pro I got the laptop, manual, stickers, ac adapter, ac extension cable, and cloth to wipe off my screen. I didn't get any s-video output or vga adapter, and I'm actually glad that they didn't give me any lion installer cds because that would have been a waste of optical disc. What came free in a box over 6 years ago (vga adapter display port) is now $30 extra at the apple store. Also, no s-video. So I can't hook it up to an external monitor or tv. (and no, I can't just go and buy a fake one on amazon because I have analog so i would on top of that buy a pc converter box. ) I honestly wouldn't mind buying the converter box... had I gotten a free vga display adapter with my laptop. Also let's compare a minor difference in applecare: back then I got a receipt and a box with some info and a applecare test cd that was good for diagnostic utility testing. while maybe a bit old fashioned, I still like having cds that I can use for testing problems. This time, I didn't get any info box or cds, or a receipt for that matter--well i did get an email saying I had extendedapple 3 year but I never had the chance to make a phone confirmation that proves I am in service. I feel that is a bit risky sending people home without a hard copy of your purchase. They could just claim you didn't buy it. maybe i'm just old fashioned that way. To be clear, i can't compare the actual service of applecare of present day and former because so far I haven't had enough use of it to compare it yet.
What I'm getting at is that with the money they saved on gypping me with included accessories and a function OS, surely they could afford to right the situation by giving me a free copy of the new OS Mountain Lion. I might add, that way back when I had my powerbook g4 I went into to apple's genius bar one day and was trying to get an issue fixed regarding the itunes razor phone I had just purchased (way back before iphone had just come out) the music wasn't transferring from my computer to my phone. The guy was very very nice and he said he couldn't fix the problem with the phone (the usb turned out to be damaged) and he upgraded my panther to tiger for free!
That is an example of good customer service. That is example of keeping loyal apple customers.
---also--I found something posted on another forum that I felt I just had to share that further demonstrates  examples of extrodinary past customer service from Apple:

I had the logic board in my iBook 800/12.1" (Nov. '02) replaced 3 times. After the 4th failure occured a couple of weeks ago, I called Apple Support and requested a replacement machine. They refused, and were fairly rude about it.
So, in a moment of desperation, I sent an email to Steve Jobs. I did not demand a replacement machine. I simply said that I was extremely displeased with the quality of my iBook and I would no longer be purchasing or advocating Apple products. I wished Mr. Jobs the best of luck in Apple's future endeavors.
Two days later, I received a call from Apple's Corporate Executive Relations team. The woman I spoke with apologized profusely for my troubles with the iBook. She explained the logic board replacement program to me in great detail, and then, without any prompting from me, asked if a new iBook G4 (as a replacement) would cause me to reconsider leaving the platform. **** yes. So, I'm typing this post on a brand new 1Ghz, 12.1" iBook G4
Needless to say, despite the trouble with the machine, and the heartburn of dealing with Apple Support - in the end I'm left feeling fairly impressed with Apple. In the end, they did the right thing, and kept a customer.

  • Since the Mountain Lion OS update today I've had issues with internet connection and e-mail, has anyone else?

Since the Mountain Lion OS update today I've had issues with internet connection and e-mail, has anyone else?

That's what I would have thought, but even after saving the setting, as soon as I shut down my computer or log out of Mail, it automatically defaults back to 25. It's a bit frustrating.
Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of those horrible pop-up banners but still have my glass sound and number of emails in the red dot when I get an email...
These little tweaks are the only thing I HATE about upgrading my OS.

  • What Macs will mountain lion support

What Macs will mountain lion support

Looks like Apple has a five year shelf life built into it's computers as far as OS compatability is concerned. Guess I better start saving up for a 2014 Mini.
It depends on your perspective - if you consider "shelf life" as the amount of time before a computer will no longer accept new OS releases, that is one way to look at it. However, if you consider that the computer is still viable for a long time after its last eligible update, its useful life is a lot longer than just five years. I have been getting about ten years of useful economic life of every Mac I've ever bought and I think that's pretty reasonable (they all eventually get the maximum RAM and bigger hard disks).
Put another way, a 2007 Mini is every bit as useful as the day you bought it. I think it is more reasonable to expect you will not feel its age until about 2017.
It is also nothing new with Macs... they have all averaged five or six years of "upgradability" since the very first one in 1984. Eventually the OS has to evolve.

  • Will mountain lion contain new version of ilife?

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, but I'm missing features in iphoto to use the icloud for streaming pictures, and cannot find an upgrade for ilife.
Also, will Mountain Lion include an ilife upgrade?

The picture streaming/subscription features were part of MobileMe's Gallery and were discontinued with the transition to iCloud. Apple may release new versions of these programs when Mountain Lion is released, but these are standalone programs that are usually upgraded separately. It is likely Apple will release updates to fix bugs and implement Mountain Lion-specific features in the programs, but less so that Apple will release full version upgrades. However, we will ultimately have to wait and see.

Yes, all versions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) are compatible with OS X.  Update to the latest versions of OS X & Office.  Office updates are released frequently so be sure to keep it up-to-date

  • ITunes, Remote.app v2: Does v2 still work in iOS7 or will I be automatically updated to version 3? (Plus v3 and iTunes issues)

Remote.app (version 2): Does it still work in iOS7 or will I be automatically updated to version 3?
That is basically the main question I've come to ask (with some side commentary in parenthesis below).
After trying out iTunes Remote App version 3, I saw that it scrambles playlists (such as Recently Purchased), which makes my playlists worthless. For example, using Remote.app, it's no longer possible to simply play the songs you bought over the last week at the iTunes Store using the Recenlhy Purchased Playlist. Since I buy a lot of music through the iTunes Store, I naturally want to listen to what I just paid for, just as I could using Remote.app version 2.
But it's not just the Recenly Purchased playlist, it's all my playlists. Through the last decade, day in and day out, I've carefully orgnized hundreds of playlists that I've very crafted, song by song like old mix tape casettes.
They payoff for this work has been enormous. Since starting with mp2 in 1995, then mp3 and continuing through to the thousands of dollars I've spent purchasing songs through the iTunes Store and tens of thousands on iPods, iPhones, iPads, and computers—I've been able to make music match whatever mood or music was juuust right for the moment, making for great moments and memories with friends and families. For some artists, I always want to hear their latest songs first or I want to to hear top rates songs first. Other lists are about creating a particular mood for just about any occasion. I can even shift the mood in the room with the right music list. It's really been fantastic the memories and moments I've been able to set the tone with the right song, and most of this has been not the song itself, but the flow of music I've created by orgnizing music lists. That's a lot of work I've invested. So the order of the songs matters a lot to me, especially the very first song that starts that list. That's the song I want to hear first, not somewhere in the middle.
As of Remote.app version 3, these carefully crafted songlists are scrambled, making the App worthless. When I first noticed this I couldn't believe it, must be a bug. Nope, no bug, by design I found out. It's like when Lucy pulls the football away. It's mean spirited to take back features you've sold and promoted and people have grown to rely on in the workflow of their lives. So I downgraded back to Remote.app version 2.
((Actually, they're not really technically scrambled, they're actually presented in alphabertical order, which I think is really the same thing to me. Think about it: listening to an artists work alphabetically by title is really the most random and completely scrambled way to listen to their music. Or if you don't want to listen to them alphabetically, you can have them shuffled. Those are now the only two choices. Either way, the lists are jumbled, and like iTunes 11, several of the most powerful features have been taken away. In this case the exact thing that's missing is that the iTunes Remote no longer reflects the sort order of iTunes playlists.
I don't know if this is a quiet, update-by-update shift away from our playlists and towards iTunes Radio or not, but I would think so. Why else would you make it less powerful. To quote Merlin Mann Apple tends to "fire a warning shot" feature wise before taking something away. The Finder has gotten less and less powerful in finding files and folders by their name and size through the last decade.
I'm now noticing the same thing with iTunes, it's becoming more difficult to find the currently playing song. In iTunes 10, Go to Current Song would open the folder containing the list of the currently playing song, highlight and move that list to the top of the left column and then highlight that song. In iTunes 11, Go to Current Song will only highlight the folder that contains that song and nothing more. At that point you're on your own to hunt town the currently playing song. This feature has been broken—on purpose I suspect.))
SO—I don't want to be forced into Remote.app version 3 and have my playlists scrambled on my iPhone and iPad. Is there anyone who knows the answer from first hand experience?
If customer loyalty is as important to Apple as it should be taking away features in iTunes and Remote app will only drive old customers away.
    Thanks!!
    David

I like that I would be able to maintain my iPhoto library data for Faces and Places in Aperture, but am concerned that when the iPhoto library is "upgraded" for Aperture, and I decide I don't really need that program, the upgraded library won't work with iPhoto anymore.
The iPhoto library isn't changed in any way by Aperture. Aperture will import the Library and you can choose to copy the files to the Aperture Library or reference them within iPhoto. As long as you don't delete files from the iPhoto Library via Aperture (which you could do if you choose to Reference) there is no impact on iPhoto
Will I still be able to use iPhoto to access and organize my library, or will it be forever converted for use with Aperture?
    They are completely different libraries.
Recently, iPhoto bugs make Events show up multiple times in iTunes when syncing for iPhone and iPad.
    Fixed in the 9.1.3 update.
Will I find a better user experience with Aperture, or does it also use the single file library and suffer the same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing lately?
Like iphoto, Aperture can use the "single file library" or it can use a Referenced Library (just like iphoto can). Note that using a Referenced Library offers not a whit more in terms of features or capabilities. It's file storage plain and simple. Nothing more.
No you won't see the "same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing..." because Aperture is an entirely different allication.
But you my see Aperture or Lightroom struggles
    Regards
    TD

Currently running Snow Leopard but wish to upgrade to Mountain Lian to support new iphone etc. Only problem being that I've just set up a small online page using iweb through an ftp server. will Mountain Lion support any changes that I make to my pages and can it then publish trhough the outside server?

iWeb is supported in Mountain Lion. That said you need not upgrade to ML to support new iPhone 5. What OS are you using? All you need is iTunes 11.

make sure you have your automounter running. Do this in a terminal to make sure:
    ps aux|grep -i automount
If it is not running, you may have turned it off using some utility (bad idea). It's controlled by the NFS startup item and should be enabled so the OSX API can listen for traffic on port 548, which is the Apple Fileshare Protocol port of register.
if this is confusing, I can give more detail when I arrive at my home.

  • Will mountain lion support safari 5.1?

will mountain lion support safari 5.1?

I've done the SMC reset as well as the PRAM and NVRAM, no dice.
After going through Optoma's support just to make sure, it couldn't be anything with the projectors I called Apple and spoke with a Senior Advisor. Due to the fact that the VGA splitter works with my mid-2011 iMac, but not with the 2008 iMac his best guess is that the error must have something to do with the handshake protocols that allows the iMac to detect that there is something attached to the external display. Unfortunately there is no way to 'brute-force' the iMac to send video without receiving a handshake confirmation. The "Detect Displays" option only makes the iMac look for a display, but it won't send the signal without a response.
The option at this point is to either find a different splitter and try that, or downgrade the iMac to Leopard (which requires a full wipe and re-install.
Not the solution I had hoped to find, especially when the iMac, VGA splitter, projectors, and presentation software are individually listed as Mountain Lion compatable.

  • Will Mountain Lion load over 10.5.6?

I have an older MacBook Pro with OS 10.5.8, will Mountain Lion load directly over this or will I have to first purchase Lion? The packaging notes that Lion is required, but Apple has fibbed before on system requiremens. Anyone know?

No. Mountain Lion is only available from the Mac App Store, which requires 10.6.6 or newer. If you're using a configuration with a 10.5.8 partition as well as the required one, the Mountain Lion installer will refuse to upgrade it.

  • How will mountain lion affect my office for mac 201111

How will mountain Lion affect my office for Mac 2011

I have been using Office for Mac 2011 for almost a year now and the issue started immediately after doing the upgrade.
When I start Outlook I can see that it takes 1 minute plus to set up the identity.
When it finally runs it is very slow and no fun to use. It seems that Outlook is using very few resources when I look at the activity monitor.
Overall it seems that my IMac has become slower than before upgrading to 10.8.
I do not have support with MSFT anymore and I do hope that somebody does report this issue to MSFT.
To me it seems to be very clear a result of the upgrade.
    Hope that helps.
