Will moving to Airport improve security & iChat?

I recently bought a Belkin ADSL2+modem with Wireless G+ MIMO router with a Belkin Wireless G universal range extender/access point. This combination was successful in extending the range in a large (3 storey) house. However I have discovered that I am unable to turn on WPA or WEP and have iChat work (in the iChat forums it appears that these Belkin routers do not work that well with iChat). It appears I can choose either encryption or iChat but not both.
If I were to buy an Airport Extreme base station
a) I am hoping it will work better with iChat (seems more likely and seems confirmed on the iChat forums)
b) Sounds like I will need an ADSL modem (I have an old D-link modem I can probably still use)
c) I can probably use the Belkin products as extenders
d) I can turn on WPA and use the same password for all the products
Does this sound like a reasonable plan that is likely to solve the problem that I have at present?
Any advice appreciated.

As AEBS is an Apple product, I don't see why it would not work with iChat and provide WPA encryption. I don't think Belkin will work as an extender I am pretty sure. My experience with Belkin is that while I could get it to do WDS network to extend wifi network, it would not work nicely with WPA encryption.

Will a new Airport improve range over Graphite?

I have a Graphite Airport that works great. Trying to extend the range a little to use a MacBook in a garage area that has been beyond limits. Will investing in a newer Airport Extreme N actually change the range or just my pocketbook? Can I add a Airport Express to extend the range with a Graphite? Seem to find mixed opinions on the discussion boards if this can work? I would hate to have to buy a new Extreme AND a Express to cover the area.

Using an Airport Express to extend the range is quite feasible. A new AEBS that supports 802.11n does have a greater range but only if you can operate at 5 GHz. The advantages of 802.11n would only be available if all the devices connecting to the AEBS supported 802.11n. If only one device is an 802.11b/g device, then that will force the AEBS to operate in that mode obviating any benefits of the higher speed capabilities.
Because only your Macbook might support 802.11n but your other computers do not, then you would get no benefit from a new AEBS.

Q&As stating for "improved security" but will not display

I'm getting a prompt for three new security Q&As stating for "improved security" but tapping the question choices menus returns a blank white screen and spinning processor. Can anyone help on this? Is it something new in security, Jan. 2013? (Gen 4 iPad)

So your suggestion worked (I assumed) ..it showed the main folders.. but when I click on a folder all the other folders inside that are not displaying... does that make sense?
And it just ejected itself? Any idea what the issue is or how to fix it please!?

Airport problems after 8/12 airport and security update

My MacBook Pro which had been working flawlessly since I got it last year received the airport and security updates distributed today. After the reboot my airport turns itself off after a few minutes and will not come back on and the computer seems to be running hotter than usual. Booting from a recent clone of the drive without the updates did not fix the problem and the card turned itself off a few minutes after the reboot and will not come back on.
Anyone having similar problems after the update?

Choose a security protocol, WPA2 personal suggested. Then choose and install a strong password. Only users who are cognizant of your password will be able to connect to your wifi network. Of course, you'll need to do this via your Airport Utility application.

Solid amber is an indication that the AirPort Express has locked up, or that an internal electrical component has failed.
Power off the Express for a few minutes, then power it up again. If the solid amber light persists, the next step would be to perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express to see if that will clear the lockup so the Express can be re-configured.

How are you trying to add files??
You cannot add them to the TM backup?
TM owns the sparsebundle and you should not add files to any sparsebundle.. do not even attempt to.
You can create a new directory in the Time Capsule and copy files to that.. as long as you have turned on file sharing and give correct access permissions.
Mixing data and backups does have consequences though.

I'm trying to down loads apps. The improved security questions appear but won't let me pass question 3 (ie question 3 is not working). This means I can't down load an apps. I am unable to skip this section. Anyone know what to do?

Seems like we are not the only ones. Ipad users are having the same problem. There is a problem with the server so have been advised to try later. Maybe Apple should allow users to skip this if they wish too!

but I want to use the 5Ghz wireless.....is there anyway to bridge the 2 networks or connect to both for AirPrint's sake?

If the printer can only support the 2.4 GHz radio band then, even if you could bridge the two (not possible), the printer would still not be able to connect ... and this is true for any wireless client whether it is a printer, computer, etc.
Wireless clients that support both bands can connect to one or the other typically based on received signal strength. They don't connect to both simultaneously.

Photoshop does not use any external java it has it own "ScriptingSupport" plug-in, Some thitd Party plug-in and perhaps Adobe installer may use an external Java. I don't use a Mac, The latest Java I have on Windows is version 8 there are security issues in prior versions.

My account needs updating but will not accept my card security code why?

As of today, I'm having the same problem. My iTunes account has been up and active for a long time using the same card, then suddenly the security code isn't valid. I've double checked all the info and it is correct, but iTunes refuses to accept it… I also tried the article linked above, but it is no help at all. There is no option to select "None" as a payment choice.
Just to be very clear: I've been using my iTunes account to make purchases with this exact card since 2009, my bank info hasn't changed since 2008, my card is not expired, and the security code is correct.
If anyone comes up with a solution, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I can't even get the free updates to my apps since my payment info is busted. Grrrr.

My Touch will not remember the wireless security code.

I have been fighting this same issue where the iPod appears to not retain the security password to connect to the WI-FI when the iPod was shut down for a period of time.
In my case it appeared that my wireless router was not seeing the name of the iPod with the associated mac address. The IPod device name on the router was showing as "Unknown"
Verify the name and mac address (Wi-FI address) of your iPod via General/About
View the wireless status entry on your router to make sure there is an entry matching that of the iPod.
In my case the iPod mac address was there, with the incorrrect name "Unknown"
My solution was to Reset the Network on the iPod and shut it down.
I then power cycled my router clearing the Wireless status entries.
Wait for the Wireless router to come back up.
Power the iPod back on let it find the preferred network and re-enter the security code.
This appears to have corrected the issue for me.

"Save As" will not show Airport Extreme from Safari with Yosemite.

After upgrading to Yosemite, using save as from safari will not list Airport Extreme as a share drive for use. It worked fine before Yosemite.
Accessing finder window direct usually has AE, but it gets lost and I have to cycle wireless off/on.

Clearing the keychain has seemed to work, sorta. I have begun to understand the symptoms better. The Safari "save as" is a specific part of the symptom. If the MA (Mac Air) has been unattended over night or for hours, the readiness of the connection to the TC drive is lost. If finder is opened and the TC is clicked under the shared tab, then it takes 20-40 seconds to recognize the connection and have the "data" folder show itself. Once that happens, simultaneously, the safari list of available drives for saving populates and shows ready access to the TC. It seems that there is some background connection maintenance process to keep access current with the TC that is corrupted or problematic with Yosemite. I guess the latter since I am not the only one with this issue.
I think the Safari symptom would disappear if the connection was maintained with the shared TC drive.

I have I will be talking to people on iChat and will not recieve responses from anyone for a while then suddenly i am kicked off and the error message "The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost" appears. I will log back on and the people whom I was talking to say they were sending me messages and they didnt get any of the messages i had sent. I need someone to help me with this problem please!!!

Unfortuanately this does happen from time to time.
It normally seems to conincide with updates to the AIM Servers.
We seem to have had one of these recently.
AOL review all the names in use and deem that some have not been used for a set period and re-relaes the screen names for use.
Because the log in and the Buddy list are kept on different servers by AOL this can mean that things go out of synch for a while.
Some can not see all their Buddies.
Some can not log on
And some seem to get quirky episodes like you describe.
Mostly this can be solved by closing down iChat and starting it up again.
This gets iChat to re-request your Buddy list and log on again.
If that does not work it is likely that a .plist (preference file) has become corrupt (just slightly)
This is likely to be one called com.apple.ichatAgent.plist. This is found in /Users/(your acount)/Library/Preferences
It should be deleted and iChat restarted.
Be aware that there are four other .plist with com.apple.ichat as the start of the name.
