Will MPEG-2 convert a video with sound?

No. As Kay tried to explain, the MPEG2 component will simply allow you to extract the video data from a "muxed" stream of audio/video information. To extract and convert both audio and video data, use an MPEG based third party application like MPEG Streamclip (free). This application uses MPEG routines to decocde "muxed files (e.g., MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, etc.) and then uses your QT Tools package to convert them to an iPod specific (or other QT compatible) format. (NOTE: Windows version of MPEG Streamclip does require the Apple MPEG2 component you asked about.)

Can I use quicktime for recording streaming videos with sound? If not which Apple software can do it?
    Bye Christof

You can use Quicktime to record streaming video +with it's audio+ by using a very simple trick. Using the same cable you connect your iPod/iPhone to your car's stereo system, connect your Mac's Audio OUT to its MIKE IN jack. I used FILE / OPEN URL to select the video stream source, then selected FILE / NEW SCREEN RECORDING. In the resulting 'Screen Recording' dialog box, I set the AUDIO slider all the way to the right, and under the arrow to the right, selected "Built-in Input Line In" for the microphone. I then used the appropriate controls to play the stream and record it. The resultant file was very acceptable. Good luck.

  • Importing video with sound to GarageBand 2.0 and iOS 7.0.4

Importing video with sound to GarageBand 2.0 and iOS 7.0.4
My daughter has an iPad 2 with GarageBand 2.0 and iOS 7.0.4.  She would like to import a video file which has a sound track on it to GarageBand for iPad so that she can add an additional sound track to it.  The video/audio file to be imported would be in AVI, MPEG2 or another iPad compatible format.  Is this possible? If so, how would the mechanics work?  Would you: (1) load the file into the Movies section of iTunes and import the file from the Movies section of iTunes; (2) save the file onto an SD card and import the video/audio file from the SD card by inserting the SD card into an "SD adaptor" on an "iPad Camera Connection Kit"; or (3) email the video file to yourself and upload it to GarageBand from email?

This is part of a mobile training application and I allow the learner to record an audio response in addition to viewing the videos.  When they record a response, you can hear the playback so the device has its volume up and working when the app is running.  Since I posted this issue, I switched to .flv video and that plays ok.  It's apparently the .mp4 video that's a problem.  I'm encoding it with ffmpeg and suspect that it's something with the settings.   Do you have a recommendation for mp4 settings for OSMF?

  • Capturing/recording/saving front camera as video (with sound)

    hi,
would it be possible to record a video with sound (front camera) on mobile devices (ios and android)?
i need to save the video on a webserver when it's finished recording.
i don't want the user to leave the main app so it would be necessary to use a custom recording solution.
anyone knows how to achieve this?

  • IMovie will not load avi/wmv videos, leaves sound out of mpg/mpeg videos

When i load mpg and mpeg videos into iMovie, the videos come out fine, but leave the sound out for some reason. There is no sound clip that is loaded with it. And when it comes to loading "avi" videos, it loads them, but they are blank. It loads a black video clip with no sound. And when it comes to downloading "wmv" videos it stops and says there was an error. This is the message it sends me. "The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh HD/Volumes/Maxtor Extra Storage/WTC VIDEOS/WMV/911.wtc.2.no.base.smoke.wmv” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -2048".
If you know anything about this, have an answer, or even a suggestion, I would greatly appreciate a response from you. My computer model is a Mac OSX 10.0 and I currently have iLife 06 with iMovie HD. Thanks a lot.

    Hello Mike,
MPEG video has muxed audio streams, which iMovie doesn't like - you'll have to convert.
Find some more info in Dan Slagle's Unofficial iMovie FAQ:

AVI is a container (like Quicktime's .mov) and contain various codecs. In order to know how to convert, you'll need to find out what exact codec has been used. A possibility is that it's one of the numerous DivX codecs.
FFmpegX converts various AVI and DivX file types:

WMV files can be played with Flip4Mac, in order to convert them you'll need to get the $$ pro-version ....

  • Getting videos (with sound) on my iPod?

I just got a iPod Video, but I had previously downloaded videos from the internet. I added the videos onto iTunes with no problems, but syncing it to my iPod is another story. Itunes had stated that I had to convert the video files in order to put them on my iPod, but when I did that and played it back in iTunes and on my iPod there was no sound! Can anyone help me?

I had the exact same problem. I used Videora off the internet. It's free and it converts all video files to a format that itunes and ipod recognizes. Try the following link.

  • Why will Divx not play video with sound on Firefox but will play with sound on Chrome?

Divx will play web based movies with both sound and audio on Chrome.
Divx will only play video on Firefox.
I have removed and reinstalled Divx on my computer.
I have a desktop computer running Vista.
I just became aware of this problem yesterday. In the past I have had no problem running these videos on Firefox with both sound and video.

I was having this problem with videos at home yesterday as well.
I also saw this conversation [http://veehd.com/forum/viewtopic?f=523714] and it may be a codec issue? No one confirmed this yet.

  • Convert a video with one audio channel (left) to both?

I have a home made DVD that for some reason only has sound in the left speaker. My audio system is fine. It's the DVD. Can iMovie (or other app) be used to route the left audio track into the right track as well so I have both audio channels working (obviously mono).
    Thanks,
    Steven

The problem is how to rip the DVD.
"Ripping" should not be required for a "homemade" DVD. The normal work flow here is to either copy the "main title" muxed audio and video files (VTS011.VOB thru VTS014.VOB) to your hard drive and then convert them to desired QT compatible audio and vide compression formats or use an application like HandBrake to convert the DVD directly to a more limited set of possible QT compatible compression options. (I prefer copying the files and using dedicated conversion software as it reduces the total combined disc access/conversion time requirements in most cases.
When I use QT Pro to look at these files, #3 is not viewable and, #1 only lasts about 30 secs of the intro, so I can't figure out where the content is hiding.
QT Pro is not required here. However, the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20) is required. Since you say you can see something, I must assume you already have this component installed. As to the ability to only see some "segments," the QT Player is very "fussy" about timecode breaks and will usually refuse to play succeeding content when they are encountered. Your best approach in such cases is to use a third-party, MPEG-based player engine that either ignores the timecode breaks (e.g., VLC) or has the ability to fix them (e.g., MPEG Streamclip).
Even the rip program HandBrake asks for individual files, so I'm held up even before being able to do what you suggest.
HandBrake does not "ask for individual files." It wants you to navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder since it needs to "see" all of the files to analyze the overall structure and generate specific menu options like title selections, chapter selections, alternate audio selections, etc. On the other hand, applications like iSquint, MPEG Streamclip, FFmpegX, Visual Hub, etc. use individual files or "sets" of files usually constituting a single title program.

  • I have a macbook 13" late 2009 and would like to connect my TV to macbook to view video with sound. What cable do I need to mack work?

    I have a macbook 13" late 2009 operating system OS10.9.2.
I would like to connect my macbook to my TV . I have connected a mini DVI / HDMI cable to my tv which works for the picture but have no sound.
How do I get the sound to work?
    Thanks

When you connect the MacBook using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo sound system if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. But check your TV manual to see if it has audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.

  • Will Quicktime Pro convert files compatible with Mac and Windows?

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrate to Pro 7.
I created a screen capture tutorial in Snaps Pro X which outputs a .mov file. Now I need to convert it to a cross platform version. Is that MPEG? I see that QT Pro 7 exports to MPEG-4. Is that compatible with at least XP?
Also can I do screen capture videos right in QT Pro 7?
    Thanks,
    Steven

QuickTime Pro can't capture your screen.
Your SnapZ Pro .mov file should be compatible (depending the your choice of codecs) with any machine that has QuickTime installed.

  • Transition video with sound

Is there a way to use sound with thansition video? I think that the answer is no when using the function transition video but is there another way? Of course, i can put my video transition with audio on a track, select that track as a target of a button and link the end of the video transition track to the correct clip track. But i have a lot of clips and i don't want to make a new video transition track for every clip. Is there another way? Maybe with scripts? I don't know **** about scripts!

It all depends on what you want to do. One comment I would make is that (and this may be a personal preference) but transitions (especially the same ones) can get tiresome REALLY quickly. We all think we've come up with this fantastic or clever transition and by the time the viewer has seen it three times in a row they can get mightily bored...
Personally I only use transitions sparingly (if at all - I actually think they are a waste of time and space and are often only there to show just how clever the DVD author is - of course yours may serve a specific purpose...). If used sparingly then you don't really need to use scripting...
I'm sure I could sit down and work out the scripts for you but wheres the fun in that!!! But seriously I'm sure other folks around here will jump in with scripts (or even tutorials) to get you on your way. Unfortunately I am in the midst of several projects...
    Good luck

  • Converting Music Videos - With Audio

How come when i convert a music video into a mpeg-4 format, it does not have audio along with video?

I guess because it's the file format that you have to change. I went on my Limewire and downloaded mp4 video files. You don't need to convert those because they are already in the correct format. Those play with both video and audio on the iPod with no problem.
