Will multi touch gestures work on my macbook- mac os 10.6.7 with lion?

i am supper exited bout lion coming out, but im wondering if it will work on my mac book?

It's not necessarily the operating system - your hardware/firmware also has to do with it. So, whether or not your trackpad can handle gestures depends on your model Macbook and how old it is  - I'd guess not, because newer models already support gestures.
As for the OS, here are the system requirements:

  • Will multi touch gestures work on my macbook pro (2.2 Ghz, Intel Core Duo)?, will multi touch gestures work on my macbook pro (2.2 Ghz, Intel Core Duo)?

I have a macbook pro, purchased late 2006... I can scroll with 2 fingers so I'm wondering if it will support the multi touch gestures before I purchase OS X Lion?
    Thanks!

    Probably Not. Im sorry.
The new macs have a different kind of trackpad that is more sensitive to touch.  And Apple doesn't make new stuff for old macs because most people have a new mac and because the old hardware is not fast enough to run it. Im sorry.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why doesn't multi-touch scrolling work in my Macbook Air?

I just upgraded my (first edition) Macbook Air to Lion. Unfortunately, I've found that two-fingered scrolling does not work in Mail and Safari (and probably other apps as well). When I try to scroll with two fingers, the cursor won't move at all. Other two-fingered gestures, such as zoom and pinch, work fine. Any ideas what's wrong? I checked the system preferences under both Trackpad and Keyboard and didn't see anything useful. Thanks!

Never mind! After I posted this, the relevant answer appeared in the More Like This column. (Funny that I couldn't find that answer before I posted the question.)

  • What i need to do to activate the multi touch gestures o my 2008 macbook?

i installed Lion and i just noticed that my track is the same that before, it only works when scrolling and more, but new gestures arent working, how can i activate them or my 2008 macbook trackpad is not compatible to do that?

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody was the first MacBook with a glass trackpad. Is that what you have?

A better solution is to try a number of better, free alternatives. Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
I use Apple's Pages ($19.99) as well as OpenOffice and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • Multi-touch gestures stop working?

Apple, there is an annoying bug in Mountain Lion that needs to be fixed.  Sometimes when we wake our computers from sleep, multi-touch gestures stop working.  The problem is related to the Dock.  Restarting the dock by typing "killall Dock" into Terminal and hitting return provides a temporary resolution, but the problem will eventually return.  There are several other posts in this forum and others.  Seems like there should be an easy fix to what is the only complaint I currently have with your new operating system.
    Thanks.

  • Multi-touch gestures suddenly stop working

Hi! I'm having problems with multi-touch gestures in browsers such as Safari, Chrome. Suddenly, 'double tap zoom' stops working during browsers use. Also, when I pinch to zoom, pinch to unzoom stops working. I'm using a MBPR 15" mid 2012, OS X Mavericks. These problems stalk me since Mountain Lion. Only reboot helps, but it doesn't solve the problem.

    Try resetting the PRAM.

I was having the same issue with gestures.  The pinch zoom wasn't working but the fwd/reverse to next cut with 3 finger swipe was working.  A workaround is www.magicprefs.com - a free magic mouse/trackpad app.  Under preferences/rotate & pinch - I just added the zoom in/out function & it works.  Hope this helps.

  • Why can I not use multi-touch gestures on my original iPad with iOS 5?

Why can I not use multi-touch gestures on my original iPad with iOS 5?

It would appear that apple has managed to p1ss off  alot of ipad one users in one fowl swoop, what makes it worse is that fact we were the early adoptors who got asked, why do you want a big iphone for? and then spent time showing people how good it was! actually promoting it for apple! and then to get this kick in the teeth is frustrating! i wish i had known about xcode before!
    however!
keep sending feedback, i must have sent twenty yesterday and will keep sending them untill i get a reply from these idiots! and wont stop untill i do, the more feedback sheets we fill in the more they will have to listen, it takes less than a min, i just asking the same question! moaning on here wont do anything, feedback might
also note they have changed the website now, but they have not changed the iOS5 spash screen :
(•          AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S
              •          Multitasking Gestures for iPad
              ◦          Use four or five fingers to pinch to the Home Screen
              ◦          Swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar
              ◦          Swipe left or right to switch between apps)
clearly they were planning on releasing this update to us, otherwise on the spalsh screen it would have stated ipad 2 only, note in the sentence above it states it CLEARLY makes a reference to ipad 2 for airplay, so, whatever the problem, they can fix it and they know it works!

  • Snow leopard-multi touch gestures

Apparently snow leopard includes Multi-Touch gestures in older Mac models. Does this include the white macbook? And if so what exactly does this mean?

I can confirm that there is no multi-touch gesture support on the trackpad of my Intel Core Duo MacBookPro1,1, which is much newer (only 3.5 years) than the original white MacBook, so East Asian language handwriting is also not possible. Fortunately for me, typing and conversion of Chinese and especially Japanese is very quick, so I don't really need the latter.
I'm not sure which version of the white MacBook you have (you'd have to check the Hardware Overview pane on your Get Info panel displayed by the System Profiler. If there was no multi-touch gesture support at all on your MacBook, there will definitely be no enablement by Snow Leopard. Apparently, people who had only 3-finger gestures on older model portables now have 4-fingure gestures made available by Snow Leopard.

  • Multi-Touch Gesturing on iPhone 4

Hi guys, i did the whole XCode via MacBook Pro thing with my iPad 2, that gave me Multi-Touch Gesturing which is sooo sweet....4-5 finger swipe accross apps, 4-5 finger swipe up to show the mult-tasking pane; 4-5 finger pinch-close to get to the home screen........What can beat that??????
Issue is , I tried to do the same steps (via Xcode on my MacBook) for my iPhone but it doesnt work on my iPhone..the  feature doesnt exist in settings.... , maybe they just built it for iPad?
    Does anyone know?

Agreed. I just assumed it would be functional on my fancy new 4s, I was shocked that it was missing! I stared at the settings panel for way too long, then busted out the iPad and compared settings panels, indeed, the toggle is completely absent on the iPhone!
A three finger up/down for task bar, left/right for app switch, and pinch for home would be awesome.

  • GS70 Stealth multi touch gestures Windows 8

I currently own the GS70 Stealth. It was working fine for the first 4-5 months.
However, recently the touchpad stopped responding.
I reinstalled the drivers from the MSI website and it helped in making the touchpad respond.
However, the two finger scrolling multi-touch gesture still does not work.
Could anyone help me please? Do I need to update the BIOS? I do not wish to resort to updating the BIOS as then I will have to take it back to the shop.
    Thank you!

This sounds more like a hardware problem to be honest. I'd contact MSI for an RMA.

  • Can you use Mac OS X Lion multi touch gestures in Firefox?

On Wednesday, Apple release the new OS X Lion and there are now Multi Touch gestures using the trackpad. I am able to use those gestures in Safari, but I was wondering if there is a way I can use the multi-touch gestures in Firefox.

This appears to be a problem firefox are aware of and are working on, and with some possible workarounds, see also thread: ''"Back/Forward Gestures do not work in Mac OS X Lion" '' -> [/questions/853020]
