Will my airport express 802.11d interface with the new 802.11n for music streaming?

I am about tho purchase the new airport express and have the old one running in the house already. The reason for the purchase is to stream music to speakers in the house. The older one is dedicated to the modem and provides wifi, the new ones will be plugged in elsewhere. Should I replace the old one or keep it?

If by "older" AirPort Express, you mean it is a "b/g" version, you'll have to use the WDS setup options on both the new AirPort Extreme"n" and the AirPort Express.
Unfortunately, two negative things will occur when you setup WDS:
1) Because WDS is a "g" technology thing, the entire wireless network will drop down to "g" wireless levels. So, you lose any advantages of "n" speeds with your new router.
2) The bandwidth on the entire wireless network will be cut 50%.
Bottom line, you will have a "g" wireless network operating at half of it's capability. That's a tremendous loss of performance for a bit more wireless coverage, but you may disagree.
WDS is difficult for most users to set up because it is very easy to make a mistake. Look over this post to get an idea of what is involved with this. There is also a link to Apple's instructions in this post, but the step by step by expert user Tesserax is easier to follow.

My question is after wasting hours trying to install my new Airport Time Capsule, Ive noticed that the "Airport Utility" doesn't recognize any of my 4 five year old Airport Expresses. You need the older airport utility.. that can be installed on Lion or Mountain Lion.. it cannot be installed on Mavericks.. do you have an older computer even a windows one.. or can access, borrow or bribe a friend over for drinks with laptop.. then you can configure your expresses.. !!
There is a rather complex workaround on Mavericks.. when I posted it in the past.. Apple deleted it.. go figure.

I bought the Airport express so i could surf the web and wireless play music through my stereo simultaneously. Can I do this? I've managed to play music wirelessly from my macbook to the express/stereo, however i cant surf the web because i can only presume i haven't set up the express to join my sky network. So therefore the only way to surf the web at the moment is swap wireless devices from express back to my current sky network, then the airplay stops obviously.
I've tried to join the express to my sky network/netgear router, at face value it looks simple. The sky network name automatically comes up and then all i have to do is select the correct wireless security which i haven't got a clue which one my sky/netgear router is using, then type in the password which i presume is the network key number on the back of the netgear router? However its not connecting?? I am doing something wrong?
Can someone please give me some guidence on how to connect express to my current network?

Suggest that you ask Sky what type of wireless security that is used on the devices that they provide.
Once you have that information, you can choose the correct matching setting when you configure the AirPort Express to "join" the Sky wireless network.
The "password" would be the normal phrase that you use to connect to your wireless network at the present time.

Well, although LR5 is a great improvement of speed, the dev. team should try to work on MF files such as from the Pentax 645D… any speed improvement would be much appreciated, especially with dust removal and masking tools.

Reset Password starting from Recovery HD
Start the computer,then press and hold down command and R keys to start into recovery partition.
When you see the Apple logo, release the keys.
Wait until OS X Utilities window shows up.
Move the mouse to the menubar at the top and click "Utilities", then select "Terminal"
from the drop down.
Terminal window will appear.
Type in resetpassword and press enter on the keyboard.
Leave the Terminal window open.
Reset Password Utility window will open with Macintosh HD selected.
Select the user account from the popup menu box.
Enter a new password.
Reenter the new password for the user.
Enter a hint.
Click the "Save" button.

How do I creat a journal to share using my mac air? I can see how to do it with my iPad or iPhone 4s with the new iphoto app for them. I guess "journals" replace Galleries in the Cloud. I do not see the same functionality of the upgraded iPhoto app on my Mac air, iMac ormac mini.

The same way it was done in every previous version.
Connect the device to the computer.
Right click on the device in iTunes and select Transfer Purchases.
Why would you lose any content by syncing with iTunes?
Is this not the computer that the device is normally synced with?

umm my music is synced depending on how i want it.. so right now I have it set up by artist, and alphabetically.
sort your library the way you want it, then sync.

I saw that a new wifi standard is released with the new Time Capsule. Is it possible that via software update in the future my current new macbookr pro retina 13 inch will be compatible with this standard.
Or will I have to wait for the new macbook pro's?

I am upgrading my network replacing my 1st generation version (MA073LL/A) with the new (6th generation) Airport Extreme Base Station (ME919LL/A). Is it possible to use the 1st gen. device as a network extender...as if it were an Airport Express?

Wireless assumes that the 1st Gen AirPort Extreme will be located where it can receive a good signal from the new AirPort Extreme.

hopefully moving over tomorrow to the new up to 20Mb connection.. question is ..will the HH phone work with the new router that Bt have sent out for the new connection ? Doesn't appear to be anywhere to connect to the new router like the HH which you can connect it to on the front .. so can it connect wirelessly using the power adapter ??

None of the BT HH phones will work with the 2700HGV.
You will need to get a standard wired or wireless phone and connect it to the phone port on the 2700HGV with the included adaptor, then activate BBTalk on the 2700 HGV. Here's the link to the activation help:

[SOLVED] no interfaces with the new iproute2

I get no interfaces with the 'ip a' command except for the 'lo' interface when I upgraded to iproute2-3.5.1-1. Anyone know a workaround?

That only lists interfaces that are currently up. Are you connected through eth0 or wlan0 when you run that command?
I'm not sure if it's the "right" way, but `ip maddress` shows all my interfaces, while `ip address` shows only those that are currently connected.
edit: `ip link` is probably the right command to list all interfaces. or `ip link show` according to the man page, but I believe the show is assumed in the shorter form - or even with just `ip l`.

HT3835 Will final cut express 3.5 run on the newer mac os 10.8 or 10.9?

I am going to be purchasing a MacBook Pro when the newest model is released. I am wondering if I can run my Final Cut Express 3.5 with the latest operating system.

I've been using it with Lion and Mountain Lion and it is working well. It was updated to 3.5.1 via Software Update.
However, you will have a problem with the installer as I got the "PPC applications are not supported" when I tried to install it in Lion after doing a fresh install (although FCE is a Universal application, the installer appears to be PPC). So, I followed the file locations in this article and moved every file from my Snow Leopard partition to the Lion partition into the same folder/location. Restarted and it has been working since.
