Will my early 2009 macbook pro support 8g ram sticks?

Hello people of the internet smarter than me,
I'm looking to overhaul my early 2009 Macbook Pro. I have the standard 2g memory in there, and beyond need the extra memory for the work load currently having to be done on there. However I've read in a few forums that anything over 6g causes the computer to slow down and lag out. I was wondering if anyone else found this issue to be true, or if it's been fixed. Also what are some good places to find decent memory for the mac? I've checked crucial and a couple of other sites with promising leads.
     Thank you friends

Some manufacturers have added platters, but have opted NOT to go taller. They are shortening the allowed screw penetration depth, in effect "taking back" some of the space previously allotted to long screws, especially bottom-mount screws directly adjacent to the platters area. (needed for Mac Pro tower sleds).
Solutions include shortening the existing screws, using new shorter screws, and placing a washer under the head of the screw to effectively shorten it.

    No.

  • Will my 2009 macbook pro support a higher operating system than OS 10.5

Will my 2009 macbook pro support a higher operating system than OS 10.5.8?

For any upgrades, you will need to purchase this Snow Leopard disk from the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After installing Snow Leopard (10.6.3) you should perform a software update and install 10,6.8.  That will permit the installation of either Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks, depending upon your needs and/or preferences.
    Ciao.

I think I finished installing Mountain Lion, and am at the "log in" page with the Mountain Lion icon, but I cannot do any of the functions on screen. That is, I cannot log in, sleep, restart, or shut down. I am running it on an Early 2009 Macbook Pro, which is said to have the capabilities of running Mountain Lion.

...Is there any way I can install a partition that runs snow leopard on my early 2011 MB pro with what I have (new SSD, New RAM, Current version Lion running, no external drive, lack of original snow leopard disks [I lost them ] and the general 10.6.3 snow leopard boot disks)...
As the last post suggests, call Apple and order a replacement original disc for about $17.  They will ask you the model and serial numbers.
Your retail version of Snow Leopard OS 10.6.3 will not work on that Mac as it requires a minimum of OS X 10.6.7 to boot and operate.
Another alternative is to again borrow another Mac to install your retail Snow Leopard into an external HD or partition, upgrade it to 10.6.8 and then clone it back to a partition on your MBP.

  • Will a early 2011 macbook pro run ml airplay mirroring

Will an early 2011 macbook pro run airplay mirroring on moutain lion

Only thing I would add if I was you, would be to put 8GB RAM into your machine. That will help any issues of being slow, but it should run just fine. Having more ram is always good, and for the price point its well worth it.
I have on 2010 Macbook Pro and it screams. Also on 2011 Macbook Air with no issues.
As for running slow, it could incompatible apps, or apps that havent been updated yet, it would be impossible to pinpoint one thing.

  • Will my early 2008 MacBook Pro be able to run OS X Yosemite?

Will my early 2008 MacBook Pro be able to run OS X Yosemite?

I have the same Macbook Pro as you. You should read this Apple page: http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/?cid=wwa-us-kwg-mac-com   While you can install Yosmite, many cool features will not work on pre-2012 models, including: Handoff and Instant Hotspot, AirDrop, AirPlay Mirroring, Peer-to-Peer AirPlay and Power Nap. Additionally, if you have not already upgraded your iPhoto library from iPhoto 8.1.2 (as I have not), I believe you will need to purchase the upgrade after you install Yosemite based on what I read here:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6602872 . Good luck!  If you do or have proceeded with updating to Yosemite, please come back to this thread and share how the experience went. Thanks.

  • Can my Early-2011 Macbook Pro support dual DisplayPort monitors?

I have an Early-2011 Macbook Pro that Apple states can support two Apple Thunderbolt displays in series (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5219) but I can't find any information on running two DisplayPort displays in series. I assume that Thunderbolt uses DisplayPort 1.2 which includes the link capabilities but I am not sure as I don't really understand the difference between DP and TB that well.
The displays I would be looking at using are the Dell U2414H (http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&cs=aubsd1&l=en&s=bsd& sku=391-BBNC&redirect=1) which have DP in and out options.
Does anyone know if this will be possible? I don't really have a way to test this myself unfortunately.
    Cheers.

I'm curious if you got this configuration working as I'd like to use the same setup (early 2011 MacBook Pro 17" + dual Dell U2414H through daisy chaining the MacBook Pro Thunderbolt port through the monitor displayports).
Apple says you can only have a DisplayPort monitor (Mini Display Port in this case), at the end of the chain, with a Thunderbolt device in between.  I'm hoping this is either outdated or just not fully supported but still works.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5219
    23. How do I connect my Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to my Thunderbolt-equipped Mac when I have other Thunderbolt devices connected?
When connecting a Mini DisplayPort display or a display using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to a Thunderbolt peripheral (except as described in question 24), make sure the display is connected at the end of the Thunderbolt chain. You can use only one Mini DisplayPort device in the Thunderbolt chain.
Note: Systems with more than one Thunderbolt port, like an iMac, can have more than one Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor connected with a Mini DisplayPort adapter connected as each Thunderbolt port can support one Mini DisplayPort display.

  • If I buy an external monitor (with a res of 2560x1440) will my early 2011 MacBook Pro work ok? And will it be utilising the monitors full res or not?

    Hi,
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro. I use Premiere Pro CS5 to video edit on. It's fine but when it comes to grading it's nearly impossible on such a small screen.
I'd like to buy a 27inch external monitor (Asus, Samsung, Dell, whatever - haven't decided yet) for when I'm editing at work (which is most days). My query is regarding the resolutions. Obviously my MacBook Pro displays a resolution of 1280x800, so if I buy a monitor with a resolution of 2560x1440 for example, what gets displayed?
And also does the connecting cable make any difference? For example, if I'm connecting by Thunderbolt out to HDMI, then an HDMI to HDMI cable to the external monitor, what happens then? Or should I be using a Mini Display Port to Display Port connecting lead?
I guess all I really want to know is, will it work? But also, am I wasting my money buying an external monitor with a 2560x1440 resolution? Should I just go for one that's the same res at my MacBook Pro?
I've never really understood how these things all work!
Thanks in advance for anyones help.
    Regards,
    Phil

I think it will work.  You would need a mini displayport to (single link) DVI adapter to hook up that monitor.
Not sure what kind of problems you had with the ViewSonic but I'm guessing the Dell is probably a better monitor anyhow.

  • What is the best way to upgrade my Early 2009 Macbook Pro 17"?

My Macbook hasn't been working well and I'm worried about things getting worse when going to Yosemite.  My system has some hardware problems (CD drive doesn't work, needs a new battery), but I'm looking to upgrade the whole system now.  I'd like to up the RAM to 8GB, put in a new hard drive (solid state?), etc...
Here is my EtreCheck-- I am looking for advice about what needs to be done to get my system back up and working?  Thanks!

    1. Increase your RAM to the maximum 8 Gigs.
    2. Replace your 5400 rpm hard drive with either a SSD or, if price is an obstacle, a hybrid 7200 rpm drive.
    3. Buy a new battery, recommend the genuine Apple one.
    4. Replace the DVD drive, if you need it.

  • How to connect an early 2009 MacBook Pro to a TV via HDMI

I have the cables and adapter but am only getting one image when all is hooked up.......what else need I do?
I've seen youtube instructions but I seem to lack the "arrangement menu under the "displays" preference.......
Is this MacBook unable to run to a TV with HDMI plug?

    Hi mate,
Two options - either turn on mirroring in the Displays Preference panel, or have a look at the arrangement section of that panel, you should see the second monitor positioned in relation to the laptop monitor - it's "extending" the desktop - move a window from your main monitor towards the second monitor's relative location as shown and you should see it appear on your TV.
If you start your movie (DVD player or whatever) in window mode, move the window to the second monitor, then make it fullscreen - it should fill your TV and play there. You may need to muck around with the aspect ratio (16:9, 16:10 or 4.3 depending on your source) to get it right on the second display. VLC does this nicely especially if your source was converted incorrectly.
Also tick the box to display the monitor settings in your menu bar - it's handy IMO.

  • I was just given a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. It does not have a system on it.

I have my original disks from my early 2009 MacBook Pro. When I try to use the OS Install disk to install 10.5, which is what the early MacBook came with, it won't boot the computer. I have the upgrade to 10.6.3, but it will not work either, since it is only an upgrade.
I have 10.6.8 backed up to an external disk, but I want to have a different administrator name so we don't get confused. I have used the backup to at least get the mid 2009 working. I am unable to do an Erase and Install, which is what I want to do, even though there is nothing there.

Is there any fix? Are the earlier, early 2009 disks incompatible with the mid 2009? Am I stuck with having the same Administrator for two computers? Does anyone have any suggestions?
There are compelling reasons that I don't want to upgrade past 10.6. I won't be able to get at MOST of my data because of Apple no longer supporting Rosetta. I have two other computers running Mountain Lion and Mavericks, but want to keep 10.6.8 on the MacBook Pros early and mid 2009.

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Or you can purchase replacement discs from Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes
    international calling numbers.
It's possible that even the retail copy of Snow Leopard will not work because that model came with a special build of Snow Leopard. You cannot install Leopard on that model.

  • Ram for Early 2011 Macbook Pro

What is the maximum RAM I can install in my MacBook Pro.
    Depending on where I look it is either 2 x 4 Gig (8 Gig) or 2 x 8 Gig (16 Gig)

The Early 2011 MacBook Pro supports 16 GB of RAM, although Apple says it only supports 8 GB of RAM.
You can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM You can find memory compatible with Macs in other sites, but I recommend those two sites because you can be sure that the RAM will be compatible.
