Will my files still be on my computer after I install SL?

I was just wandering if all of my saved files (videos, music, documents) will still be on my hard drive after I install Snow Leopard. Or do I have to save them to an external hard drive and transfer them back to my computer.

Better than just backing up data files, get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall anything. See these for details:

If I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the computer that will install it, will my WIFI still work on the computer that cannot be upgraded? I know this is a very basic question. Trying to hold out as long as I can, but purchasing an iPhone for Christmas and new iMac next year when warrently expires.

Thank U very much for the quick reply, I wanted to upgrade this weekend, but still on the fence. I can live with the software that is not compatible, they are on another compuetr, just didn't want the obvious stuff to stop working.

  • What does it mean that our files must be downloaded by January 2015?  Will our files still be accessible after this date or will they be deleted?

    Hi Everyone!
I'm a bit new to the whole PDF thing and am thrilled to share that I finally figured out how to use this cool feature! Well sort of! I noticed that there is a large red button that says all files will be deleted on January 6th. What does that mean exactly?  Will any files that we have stored here simply vanish?  I have a PDF file that I published in my 'workspace' that's linked to my business website.  Will the link to my PDF file just disappear on January 6th?  Thanks for any insights that you can share!
    Blessings,
    Lori

Adobe Workspaces is being retired at the beginning of 2005. For more information, see FAQ: Adobe Workspaces retired.
Yes, links to any files your have stored on Workspaces will not work after January 6, 2015.

  • Will my iPhone still be tied to iTunes after iOS 5 and iCloud?

I am pretty sure that my iDevices will still be connected to a single iTunes library, but I really need to create a new library and I'm wondering if I wait until after the release of iOS 5 and iCloud, it'll be any easier.
I have been using iTunes for a very long time now and my file system still only has a music folder (no media folder etc.). I am interested in buying a new iMac and I'd actually like to take the time to transfer my files (documents, applications, movies, music, etc.) over manually and individually. I know the easier ways, but I like to start from scratch to maintain that zippy new computer feeling. I also want to take advantage of this opportunity to create a new iTunes library. That being said, after I transfer everything over to my new library, I know that when I plug in my iPhone or iPad, iTunes will tell me to erase the device and start from scratch.
I am wondering, however, if after iOS 5 comes out, and after iCloud is up and running, with the wireless syncing and automatic backups to iCloud, will my iDevices still be "tied" to a specific computer/library.
I am not nervous about the aforementioned transferring process, it is the syncing process that is worrying me. Has anyone done this (upgraded to a new machine, transferred files manually, created a new iTunes library, and then synced there devices)? If so, how did it go for you? Am I missing anything?
    Thanks for any help!

Yup, I'm having the same issue now with connecting my 3GS to iTunes. The USB drive isn't even popping up on the pc, telling me it's recognized. Not even that. I hope there's an update for this.

  • Pieces of Adobe reader still left on my computer after so much removal.

    I uninstalled Adobe Reader.
Then i had seen some folders with few files still on my computer, which i deleted. few days back.
Now today i see there is still an entry of reader in my registry.
    Its HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Adobe > Adobe Acrobat > Discabs
    Is it safe to delete?
However, i am not sure though that this is a adobe reader or adobe acrobat entry.
(I never purchased Adobe Acrobat, and never saw it in the add-remove programs list)

I uninstalled Adobe Reader 9.4 in Windows 7 because it was not working correctely.  When I now attempt to reinstall, it will not install but rather gives the error "Application already installed."  I suspect that there is some part of the program left behind in the system that tells the install program that it is already installed even though it is not.  I cannot open any pdf file until this is resolved.  Do you have an anwer for this?

  • What to do with all the disks left on my computer after application install

I have been using the Mac for a year now (very happy overall), but am still a bit confused by what exactly the whole disk icon left over after an install is about. And then what about the .dmg and .pkg scene?
After I install a new application I have the icon of a disk with their name under it left on my desktop. It appears as a drive or partition would. Do I want to save these in case I need to re-install at some point? Can I burn them onto a CD or DVD?
I can drag .dmg files to a folder to store them, but not the disk icon's.
And why do some app's give you .dmg or .pkg files to open and others automatically put the little disk icon?
Thanks for any help in clearing this up for me.

The "disk icons" that appear when you double click a .dmg file can simply be "ejected" or "unmounted" by dragging them to the trash which will transform into an eject icon just like the one you see when you eject any other mounted volume (a CD, DVD, USB drive, etc.). The .dmg file itself should be saved for future use (if you need to re-install or access the files contained therein). Also, if the .dmg file contains anything you paid for, you will also have some sort of "key code" that should be saved along with the .dmg file. Where and how you save these are up to you. Once you have extracted the files from the .dmg and copied them to some location on your HD (the Applications folder for example) moving the .dmg file will have no effect.

  • Javac not a recognizable command on my computer after i installed JDK SE6

I am trying to compile my java code so that i can execude it but my computer is telling me that this is not a recognizable command even after ive installed JDK SE6. any ideas?

You need to update your Java registry variable.
    Go to start> control panel> system> advanced> environment variables>
Now find the variable called "Path". Click "edit", and after everything else already there, put a semicolon if there isn't one, and the following:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_03\bin
The _03 is for update 3, if you have a newer one, put 04 or whatever it is now.
DO NOT DELETE WHAT IS ALREADY IN THE EDIT BOX!
If you delete all of the other things, it will really mess your computer up. This is a vary sensitive process, so be careful.

  • How did my desktop appear on another computer after Leopard install?

I have a Mac G5 connected by ethernet to a cable company. I bought a MacBook for Chicago which is 2,000 miles away. After upgrading my G5 with Leopard I physically took the Leopard CD to Chicago and installed it on my MacBook in Chicago where I have wireless (router) After the install, my desktop was duplicated on this MacBook from the G5 in California. I never had these two computers connected, nor have I ever done a file sharing manipulation between these two computers.
One of the files on the desk top on my MacBook, when opened reveals all my files just like the one in CA except I can't open any of them because the program cannot be found. That is not suprising at all because I never installed any of these programs.
One program did open and can be used however and that is PhotoShop which I use lot on my G5. I never installed that program on my MacBook.
How did this stuff get on my MacBook? I believe there is a bug in the Leopard CD that performs all the functions I could do manually to get this desk top to duplicate.
    What do you say?

Lizard33, Welcome to the discussion area!
Do you have a .Mac account? If so you are probably seeing the new Leopard "Back to My Mac" feature in operation.

  • Computer crashed, files lost but stored on iTunes. Will my files still be there if I access my iTunes on a new computer?

My iTunes was on my windows 7 pc as well as the mp3 files saved in my computers library. This computer fell and the hard drive I believe, is broken. I'm getting a new laptop soon and want to know if my songs on my iTunes will be there and if I can still make changes to them (title, artist, etc.) when they are not backed up in the computers library. None of these songs were purchased on the iTunes Store. Help please :(

They won't be there unless you signed up for iTunes Match.

  • Will exported files still be saved someway in my ipad?

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if a document file in my application will be saved in my ipad (which takes up space) after I exported it to itune and then delete it from the app AND from the itune app file sharing?  My app enable me to downlaod files from the internet which I don't intend to keep on my ipad after it is exported to my computer using itune's file sharing.
If it is still being stored in my ipad after I exported to itune and delete it from my app, where would it be located...so that I can remove it permanately?  Would it be a different location from app to app?
    Much thanks,
    Barry.

If you've deleted the file from the app then it should no longer take up any space on the iPad

  • Lightroom files still found by backup program after uninstall

I uninstalled Lightroom, because it was too slow on my computer. It put a lot of library files and directories in My pictures folder.
When I use a backup program (SyncbackSE) to backup my pictures, it starts to scan all the Lightroom library files and it takes forever (hours and counting). Even though Windows cannot find the directories (with hidden and system files shown).
I want to completely delete the Lightroom directories, because now I can't backup my images anymore. It is a pain in the dark places.
    Any suggestions?

Lightroom does not delete data files (catalog, previews and other items) on uninstall. You would have to delete these things by hand.
I am not familiar with your backup program, but can't you simply tell it not to back up those directories you don't want?

  • Can't send Excel 2007 File via Send To Email Option after Acrobat Install

Normally, you can send an Excel 2007 file via email to someone by going to the Send option on the Excel file menu and choosing "Email." This will email an actual copy of the Excel 2007 file. However, since installing Adobe Acrobat  9 pro on my computer, this option, as well as the option to send to XPS are gone -- the only email option I have on that menu is to convert the file to a PDF and email it.
It seems to me that Acrobat should ADD options to menus but not remove any! Does anyone know how I can get those missing options (especially the one to email the actual file itself) back? I've tried Googling up a solution, but to no avail so far.
Thanks, in advance, for any help!
    Laura

Thanks for taking the time to respond, Aditya!
I saw that MS support article when I was trying to solve this issue on my own, but the solutions it proposes won't work for me -- I can't set Outlook as my email client (this is a work computer and we use Lotus Notes) and I can't muck around in the registry (again, this is a work computer). I know I can attach the Excel via the attach command in the email client, but the main thing is I don't understand why Acrobat has removed that option from the Excel menu. Also, it removed the Send to XPS option (which I don't really care about, but it bothers me because it shouldn't be deleting anything)!
I even tried adding the Email command to the Quick Access Toolbar in Excel -- it let me add the button, but, when I click it, absolutely nothing happens.
