Will my mac support nikon coolscan 4000 scanner?

The scanner is attached to computer with a 6-9 firewire and is turned on, but computer does not recognize it .  Is this a fatal problem?

Well this cannot be true some users are recommending software which costs 80 USD others are complaining against ther PC which "died" again.
I am spending another X ours infront of my home mac book ( its my wifes) to get a scanner runner NIKON COOLSCAN 5000)  No chance apple is not supporting this anymore.
Sorry dear MAC users, you are crazy - how can you live with this ? there is no OLD Windows anymore you put the scanner in, it will work within Minutes without any installation.
I will never tuch this MAC Thing again, for me this is STONE-AGE you are living in and paying tripple the price as others just because its hipp.
The MAC is flying out of my window right into the garbage
Good bye

You may have a problem with Nikon's driver software for the 10-year-old scanner, though — Nikon may not have updated it for compatibility with recent OS X versions. Check Nikon's site for updates.

  • Nikon Coolscan 4000

I am using PS CS5 Extended 64 bit  with WIN 7 64 bit and would like to be able to import scans from a Nikon Coolscan 4000. The scanner works in WIN 7 independently of CS5 however it does not appear in CS5's import panel of devices under WIA. Is there a way to make the scanner known to CS5?

I'll just add that I believe the optional TWAIN plug-in is only available for Photoshop 32 bit, so you'll have to use the 32 bit version if you do go this route.
Both 32 and 64 bit versions of Photoshop are typically installed on a 64 bit Windows system.

  • How many devices will my mac support ?

I have just bought a new desktop, and we have also have 2 ipads 1 Iphone 2 ipods 1 nano and are going to buy the kids ipad minis for christmas. Will I tunes support all these devices?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. In the case of the iPad and iPhone, it might depend on the iOS version they are running, but they should be able to sync with iTunes without any issue

  • Does anyone know when Apple will begin to support Nikon's flagship NEFs files, the RAW files generated by the D4s and the D810?

At the time of writing, Aperture, Finder and Preview all report the NEFs files from the D4s and the D810 as unreadable.  I've got to use Adobe's PhotoShop, Lightroom or Camera Raw to do post-production.  I can't even see thumbnails in Finder.  Has anyone heard of Apple addressing this, and a timeframe?  Will the new replacement program for Aperture be able to work with them?

What's even crazier, is when you go to this page: http://support.apple.com/downloads/#aperture the 5.06 one is missing, the 5.07 one downloads a file with 507 in the title, but when try to install it, it says that answer one is already installed.

  • Will Aperture ever support Nikon or Canon Picture Control settings?

As with many people, I've also run into two issues:
    1) The RAW Picture Control settings used by Nikon don't seem to be supported by Aperture. I've downloaded the latest Camera Raw update (2.4) and yet it still seems that none of the settings get interpreted by Aperture. As a long-standing Aperture user, this is a major issue since it now requires me to import into either ViewNX or Capture NX2 and then transfer them to Aperture. Since I use Photoshop for dodging and burning, I'm beginning to wonder if I should just move to Lightroom.
    2) The highlights seem to get blown out fairly easily when viewed in Aperture. I often seem to have to pull back the highlights on many pictures.
I was wondering if these are still persistent issues that others see as I'd like to consider what reasonable options I have.

Jade, you gave up to easily!!!
I would guess that Nikon makes most of their money from cameras, lenses, nik software and very little from NX software. While NX is fine for small projects, it is way to slow and plodding to be a meaningful workflow product.
But, if Nikon teamed up with Apple so that Aperture could incorporate most of what is in NX under a licensing/royalty agreement, Nikon would sell lots more of their core products, Apple/Nikon software would be come the default workflow processing solution and would set industry standards for digital imaging for the pro. Canon would be forced to follow suit or fall very far behind. Nikon has done a wonderful job in bringing their bodies to leading the pack, they need more work on lens, IMHO, and a meaningful relationship or co development with Apple would seal the third arm of the puzzle.
Consumers, Apple, and Nikon all benefit from such a model. Just have to get to terms that are acceptable and, as typical in these situations, there are too many big egos involved and unwilling to see the forest through the trees.
    Food for thought.....maybe....

  • Downloading from Nikon Coolscan V into Elements 10 on a Mac os x

Before opting for a trial of Elements 10 I asked in this forum if it was possible to download images from my Nikon Coolscan V scanner onto my Mac OS X via Elements 10. I was advised that I should move the TWAIN plug-in from optional plug-ins (in applications - Elements 10 - support files - import modules) to plug-ins.
I did this after downloading Elements 10 & moved the TWAIN from the optional plug-ins folder to the plug-ins folder, a simple move. However, in neither the organizer nor the editor can I find any route to downloading from the Nikon. In the organizer - file - get photos & videos - the options are camera or card reader (trying that shows no device found), or other options dealing with importing images from the hard drive. In help, the only mention of assistance with scanners is for Windows only, & no information at all about Macs.
I'm sure I'm missing something elementary & my general ignorance of Elements 10 is probably a major factor in this - but Elements 10 looks to be a much more versatile tool than the Nikon recommended Silverfast programme (the trial of which downloaded with instantaneous ease from the Nikon). My intention is to use scanned stills in Premiere Pro CS5 so the 'marrying'  of two adobe programmes seems a logical thing to aim for - if I can download & edit my stills from the Nikon scanner into Elements 10 ..any help for a novice would be appreciated greatly!
    Thanks
    Brian Fanning

    Dear Barbara,
Thanks for your help (& education) - in Elements editor file, import gives me four options - both anti-aliased pict & pict resource open my finder & I have used the Nikon folder to seek a connection via Nikon scan plug-in 4, (which is grayed & will not open). The other options are HPscan (I have disconnected my HP scanner/printer to simplify things) & frame from video (obviously not relevant here). I have presumed to select the Nikon folder in my Finder for lack of any other logical option to select.
From your guidance I imagined file, import would name the Nikon Coolscan on the initial list in the editor, but whatever, I still do not know how to link the nikon to Elements. The Nikon scan was uninstalled previously because it was inactive on my Mac, & Nikon advised that this should be the case. I wondered if I should re-install, but when trying the Silverfast software the image was imported instantly via image/ prescan, denoting that the Nikon software was uneeded
In return for your further assistance I hereby pledge never again to confuse my imports with my downloads!!
    Thanking you
    Brian Fanning

  • ELEMENTS 10 & NIKON COOLSCAN V

Will Photoshop Elements 10 download images from a Nikon Coolscan V scanner?

In Elements 10, you’ll need to copy the Adobe TWAIN driver (Twain_32.8ba), if your scanner requires it, from the optional plug-ins folder to the Import-Export folder in the main plug-ins folder.
You will need to copy the plug-in Twain_32.8ba
    Copy from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Optional Plug-Ins\Import-Export
    Copy to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins\Import-Export.
N.B. on Windows 32 bit navigate to Program Files. Replace en_US with your own system location if necessary.

  • Nikon Coolscan  5000 slide scanner - not supported since 10.5.5

Shortly after buying my Mac Pro and installing 10.5.5 my Nikon Coolscan 5000 slide and film scanner won't scan and save files. Apple have said it's a Nikon problem and Nikon have no plan to produce an update. I was just told to buy SilverFast instead which may work, but will cost £400 first to buy.
Any other work arounds with Photoshop Elements or another program? I have a slide feeder which will take up to 50 slides at a time. Any software suggestions which will allow this. My PC is much slower than my Mac, so would save me hours of time doing it on my Mac
    Many thanks

    HI,
You posted in the Leopard forum but you installed 10.5.5 and your profile indicates you are running 10.6.2 That's a might confusing....
In any case, try reinstalling the drivers (sofware) that came with your scanner then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Will Lightroom 4 ever support Nikon's D4S net files? If so is they an idea of the release date?

Will Lightroom 4 ever support Nikon's D4S net files? If so is they an idea of the release date?  I don't mind upgrading to 5 but unfortunately it doesn't work with my OS for Mac and I shouldn't have to upgrade both and don't want to...

Well BAD BAD me... I ASSUMED it worked because I could install it on my mac 10.6 but guess what... 8.3 won't support the D4S files.  I swear I am in a never ending loop of hell.  I really shouldn't have to upgrade my WHOLE operating system AND buy the newest version of Lightroom that I don't need just because I got a new camera. THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does Mac support Canon MP600 scanner

my Mac support the printer portion but I cant get the scanner to work.  Does anyone know
if Canon MP600 is supported for the scanner portion of the machine?

Hi, to everybody who has a problem with the scanner MP600 on Mavericks. Found a way how it works:
Uninstall and Reinstall the software according to the instruction that Candacefae gave us. Instead pick software and driver for Lion including MP Navigator. Then Restart Computer. After done click on Application folder and Canon Utilities. Then click on MP Navigator. And voila. You can scan.
A little annoyance but it works. Keep in mind - clicking on System Preferences and Open Scanner will not work!
For everybody else who does not want to deal with all the steps there is always Vuscan - just cost $79.95 for the Premiumversion. Works with all Models no matter how old.

  • Film scanner Nikon Coolscan V ED

I have the film scanner Nikon Coolscan V ED and want to know if anyone here use this ?
I try to find help for a problem but Nikon website doesn't speaks about film scanners (just cameras) and I tried Yahoo/Google search for some other sites/community board/discussions without success. I figure that people here might have a film scanner. Or can anyone direct me to a site that might help ?
    Thank you.
Just in case someone here has this scanner I will post my problem too.
For some reason I did not install the reference manual and now that I want to install it, I can't because I have a problem with my computer (the DVD tray doesn't open).
Anyway, I need to find ASAP a solution to this problem:
When I scan a slide, the quality is good just like the slide. Then I save it to a folder, close the file and then go to the folder to reopen it (to check) and the image is grainy ! I tried numerous variations (file size, number of pixels per inch, etc.) but they all come grainy.
I'm sure (well, I guess) the explanation is in the reference manual on CD but as I said, I can't access this now. The print manual, which I have of course, do not mention this.
    Please help.
Just in case there's a relation:
My monitor is, for years, on 800x600 because the recommended resolution makes the text too small. However I have literally downloaded thousands of JPEG pictures from the Web and the quality is excellent. So shouldn't my pictures be the same ?

I have a Polaroid SprintScan 35+ slide & film scanner & have scanned hundreds of slides. I scan at a resolution of 300ppi. What resolution are you using?
Afetr I scan I crop the image & color adjust, if necessary, & reduce the resolution to 72ppi (or 100ppi). I have my screen resolution set to 1280 x 960.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Which camera will work best with the MAC? NIKON or Canon

Contemplating on buy a camera and a MAC, but need to know which camera will work best with a MAC, Nikon or Canon? Any info is appreciated

Both will work very well. You might not even need to install the software that comes with them because they'll probably work fine with iPhoto etc. Before you buy a camera, check this list of cameras supported by OS X:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825
Just about all Nikon and Canon cameras are on that list. If a camera is so new it is not yet on that list, it will be in the next update, probably.
That list is for raw format compatibility. If your camera also shoots JPEG, it will work with a Mac even if it's not on that list. If a camera doesn't work by plugging in a cable, take the card out and put it in an ordinary USB card reader and the Mac will read it.
Nikon has a slight advantage in that it supports a mode that lets the Mac mount a camera like a disk on the desktop. Canons don't mount on the desktop, but it's not really a disadvantage, because Canons still work great with Apple iPhoto, Apple Aperture, Apple Image Capture, and Adobe apps, and all of those are more efficient ways of transferring photos than dragging them out manually.

When will Camera Raw and Photoshop support Nikon 610 cameras

    Hi,
What version of photoshop and operating system are you using?
Photoshop cs6 and photoshop cc should open those files.
You might just need to go to Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6/cc to get an updated camera raw plugin
Camera raw 8.3 or 8.4, depending on your operating system.
