Will my new iMac come with Leopard or Tiger?

Hi,
I'm going to Uni on Monday and want to finally purchase my Mac now that Leopard has been released.
My question is: If I order my new Mac on Monday, will it come with Leopard or Tiger?
In the online store it still states that it will come with Tiger, but maybe this has just not been updated?
If people don't know the answer, would you happen to know an Apple contact email address or telephone number I can call (in the UK) to check prior to ordering?

Are you sure you want to get a Mac with Leopard preloaded?
It may actually not be compatible with some of the software you depend on, and will have no chance of being so (unless the product is updated) because Macs historically have only been able to use the operating system they ship with and newer operating systems, and we are still learning which products need updates for Leopard.
The online store has a phone number in the upper left hand corner:

The new iMacs will only work with Snow Leopard, and only the release on the DVD supplied with the computer (the Snow Leopard upgrade disks won't work). The problem is that they require new drivers.

  • Does the new imac come with a cd/dvd player/burner?

Does the new imac come with a cd/dvd player/burner?

It's $80.00. You can buy other externals for less, I think, but only the Apple one will work with Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows and any other applications that will only work with an "internal" optical drive.
If this isn't important for you, then explore less expensive alternatives. Check out OWC for example.

So, the answer is No.  If they were 3rd Gen the series would start with a 3XXX.

  • New MacBook come with Leopard in October?

    Hi everyone,
My friend is about to purchase a macbook...i have been telling him to wait till October when Leopard is launched because then the computer will come with the latest OS.
Is my advice on the mark or off? I am not sure what the go is when a new OS is coming out and you have just bought a mac with the old OS. Do they upgrade you for free?
Also will the cost of macbooks go up if they have a new OS on them?
    Hope this all makes sense,
    Thanks a lot in advance!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
This is a user-to-user forum hosted by Apple. None of us work for Apple and we have no idea what their plans are. It's against the Terms of Use to speculate about unreleased products and Apple's policies. All anyone can say is, in the past, the new version of Mac OS X was included as an upgrade disk at first. Shortly after, two or three weeks, the new version of Mac OS X was included built-in. Also, in the past, if the new version was not included after the release date then Apple would ship you an "up to date" disk for the cost of "shipping and handling".
Personally, I wouldn't wait. If you keep waiting for "The Next Best Thing™" you'll never end up buying anything. What if there are a couple of key issues regarding Mac OS X 10.5? Maybe you'll wait for 10.5.1? I would prefer to have a computer that runs with either Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 so you have options.

  • Do new imacs come with digital videocam software?

    Hello,
I know someone who's sick and tired with his Win XP machine. He has a digital video camera which he wants to burn onto DVD, but he has a lot of problems. Mind you, he doesn't know much about computers, and perhaps a bit more experience would help. Anyway, he's lost patience, and I suggested that he looked into getting a Mac, because they are known for their user-friendliness.
He's already spent 500 dollars in software for getting the movie from Digi Video Cam to DVD via computer, so it makes him weak to think that he has to invest again in software.
My question is: If he buys an iMac, does it come with software for him to edit and burn to DVD?
P.S. We are also looking at a Mac mini. Does the mini come with software necessary to edit and burn a digital movie file from video camera to dvd?

If you have XP installation disk with SP2, you can get Bootcamp free which will allow you to insall and run windows, then your investment in Windows software will not have been wasted. However, I am using the iMovie that came with the computer and it works just fine.

  • Will my new iPhone come with a SIM card inserted?

I will be preordering the next iPhone online.  It will be an upgrade to my account with AT&T.  When my phone arrives in the mail will it have a new SIM card already inserted into it or will I need to go to an AT&T retail store to have them activate the phone?  Your help is much appreciated.

Whether it comes with the SIM or not would depend on whether you specified AT&T as your carrier when you ordered it, or purchased an unlocked phone.  If you specify the carrier, the SIM will be included.

  • Do new Imacs come with Microsoft Excel and Word for Mac installed?

Or do I have to order it in the options when I go to get a new Imac?  I use Excel and Word spreadsheets.  Thanks.

    No.
You would have to purchase these separately through either the Mac App Store,  Microsoft or through a third party software sales vendor.
OR you can purchase through the Mac App Store iWork suite of apps that includes Pages (word processor/page layout app) Numbers ( spreadsheet app) and Keynote ( slide and audio/video presentation software).

  • Does a new iMac come with anything like Appleworks?

The last time I purchased a Mac was 6-7 years ago - an iBook - and it came with Appleworks included. I'm planning to purchase a 21.5" iMac and it doesn't seem like anything like Appleworks is included. Am I correct to assume that I must purchase iWork or Office separately?
    Thanks...

The old copy of Appleworks that you have will, indeed, work with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 I have a copy of it which dates from 2004 on my machine and it works quite well under Rosetta. I have it updated to the last available update, 6.2.9, which you can download from here if you need it:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/appleworks629formac.h tml
Since you already have that copy of Appleworks left over from your old machine, and you are used to using it, you could give it a try after updating it if it needs it. You can then compare using it with Kenichi's suggestions and go with the best choice.

  • Do New iMacs Come With A Separate iLife DVD ?

Is the iLife suite "hidden" in the general Software Restore DVDs or does it come on its own DVD, the same as if you buy it separately ?
    Ian.

    Hi Ian,
Is the iLife suite "hidden" in the general Software Restore DVDs...
Yes, it is. Installation of the iLife suite of applications is done by inserting the "Install Disk 1" DVD and double clicking on the "Install Bundled Software Only" installer package.

  • Does the new 2011 iMac come with a osx lion preinstalled or a osx lion USB drive

Does the new 2011 iMac come with a osx lion preinstalled or a osx lion USB drive

I just bought the 17" MacBookPro the other day with Lion preinstalled and wanted to install Lion on my iMac. It makes sense that I should be able to upgrade for free you spend all this money on Apple products, give us apple supporters a break. Maybe this is something that Apple overlooked and in the future there will be a fix.
I read up on forums and I finally called AppleCare they said that I should be able to install Lion on 5 other computers but only if purchased in the store, this doesn't make any sense. I feel like I already purchased a copy and that copy should be able to be installed on another computer. It should be as simple as logging in app store with the same apple ID and it be there to install on my iMac. If apple is trying to make everything user friendly, device syncying and convenient well it's not; this is just something they think of. I refuse to pay $30 for another copy. Fix this issue APPPLE!!!
Because if those who bought computers in July that didn't have Lion preinstalled can obtain a free copy to install in 5 computers. I should be able to do the same with the Lion that I bought preinstalled it's just make sense to me.

  • Does brand new 24 inch Imac come with ilife 08 disc?

just bought a brand new 24 inch imac which had ilife 08 preloaded - but can't seem to find an install disc as backup anywhere. do these new machines come with installation disc?
if not, what do i do in the event of a hard drive crash?
    thanks

No wurries! iLife '08 is on the (Mid 2007) iMac install disks. Put Disk #1 in the DVD drive (no need to shut down OS-X), and click on "Read Before You Install.app".
If you just want to reload/recover a lost app, click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" icon, drill down to the "Installation Type" screen, and select "Customize," then expand the "Bundled Applications" thingie, and clear all the checkboxes -- except for the app(s) you want to (re)install. Then click "Update".

  • Do new computers come with OS X redemption code?

I just purchased a factory refurbished iMac from the Apple Online Store.
The specs from the online store said it was eligible for the up-to-date program.
Look at the second line under any of these refurbished Apple computers: Eligible for OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date Program
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac
Unfortunately, this unit did not come with a Mountain Lion redemption code.
It did come with 10.8 installed and then I was able to update to 10.8.2 which is fine.
The problem now, is that the Apple Store says I do not own a copy of Mountain Lion as it is not in my Apple ID in the store.
To reinstall Mountain Lion, they said I could use the recovery mode and didn't need Mountain Lion to show in my Apple ID.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
    The above will not work.
When I get to the point in the recovery mode, it asks me for my Apple ID and password.
I have contacted the up-to-date program and they told me my iMac is not eligible.
Well, the Apple website says it is.
See the refurbished items under "Qualifying Purchases" here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/
I then contacted Tech Support and they made a case number but told me to contact the Apple iTunes Store.
The Apple iTunes store told me they can't do anything and told me to contact the up-to-date program.
This seems to be a Circle Jerk as I keep getting the run around.
I contacted the up-to-date program again and they said my iMac was not eligible.
I contacted Tech Support and told them about the run around and told me to contact Customer Support.
Even with the help of customer support, the up-to-date program keeps telling them that my computer is not eligible but will not give any reasons.
In the old days, we used to get the discs with our new or refurbished computers. We own the OS X that came with the computer.
Now apparently, I don't own it and can't download it again for some reason.
Do I, or do I not, own a copy of Mountain Lion?
    If not, why not?
I realize it is only $19.99 but I don't think I should have to purchase it as every OS came with all the prior Apple computers I have purchased in the past.
Do the new computers come with a redemtion code for Mountain Lion and/or, does Mountain Lion show up in your purchases in the App Store on the new computer?

Your Mountain Lion came pre-installed as such it is not a separate product rather part of your computer purchase. You cannot download Mountain Lion from the App Store.
Did you register your computer after receiving it? That is generally the process by which the computer becomes associated with your Apple ID.
You have never owned the OS. You have always had nothing more than a license to use it. That is generally true for most of the software you have purchased.
If you want to purchase a copy of Mountain Lion from the App Store, then log into the store using a computer with Snow Leopard or Lion installed under your Apple ID. Purchase and download the Mountain Lion installer. When the download has completed, quit the installer. Put it in your Downloads folder or transfer to a USB flash drive for safekeeping.
Getting Mountain Lion via a redemption coupon lets you download Mountain Lion from the App Store. The license for the App Store version versus the one for the pre-bundled version is not the same. For example, the App Store version may be installed on more than one computer that you own. The pre-bundled version can only be installed on the computer with which it came.

  • Do iMacs come with multiple or single users

I am going to buy a mac soon and I am going to be the only person using it. Do iMacs come with single or multiple users software?
    Thanks, Eva
      Windows XP
Windows XP   I will be getting my own iMac this November I have a green Mini named PeaPod

The default configuration for a new Mac is a single user configuration. If you migrate user accounts from a different machine, you will have multiple users on that computer when you first log in. You can also create additional accounts from the Accounts pane of System Preferences. In any case, there are several system-level accounts and groups, which will not be visible on the login screen or in System Preferences.
