Will my P67A-G43 motherboard support ivy bridge i7 3770k?

Hello,
Currently I'm running an i3 2100 and I was wondering if the P67A-G43 will support and overclock an i7 3770k.
Please let me know!
Thanks

At this time, there is no UEFI/BIOS that wil support an Ivy CPU on your mainboard. It is possible at a later date, still undetermined, that Ivy support will be available for some select B3 mainboards.

P67A-C45 B3 SUPPORT Ivy Bridge CPU

I tried to flash the 5.1 bios via the DOS method but it killed the board. It looked as if it had gone well. It rebooted and flashed the secondary flash and all. But when it came to the final reboot the board was totally dead. The CPU and PSU fans just moved a bit and nothing happened. I tried resetting CMOS by holding the switch to empty the caps, removing battery for 10 minutes and pushing the CMOS button at the back. I even shorted the reset jumper on the board.
I tried the control + home start with both amiboot.rom on USB stick and then burnt to a cd.
I pulled out the board and stripped it trying to see if I could get a beep or blink from the diodes while putting CPU and memory back on. Nothing.
I then bought a new Z77A-S01 IvyBridge board and now I´m happy again.
There´s a bit more in this thread https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=159446.0
I probably did something wrong OR the board was faulty but I just didn´t feel like fighting with it anymore. It’s a bit over a year since I got it and perhaps I could have gotten the shop to fix it but by now I am so tired of the problems (boot errors) with this board that it feels like a relief to put it in the garbage.

  • Ivy Bridge Support for 610-1130f (H67 - WJ1 Motherboard)

Intel H67 chipset supports Ivy Bridge but requires a BIOS update.
Does HP plan to release a bios update?
Is there anything we can do to get them to offer an update?
I really wish HP would support it.
I've love this machine even more with a new Ivy Bridge CPU and HD 4000 graphics.
Has anyone tried installing a processor to see what happens?

    Hi,
Some third parties have released bios updates to support the Ivy Bridge product. A lot of regession testing needs to be done on the older motherboards.  I would suspect that HP will release new models of the TouchSmart with Ivy Bridge support.

  • H8-1260t / IPISB-CH2 (Chicago) - Can HP add support for Ivy Bridge processors?

The latest UEFI BIOS upgrade for this Sandy Bridge H67-based motherboard is 7.12, dated 10/12/2011. The chipset has the capability to run Ivy Bridge CPUs (released Q4 2011) with a BIOS update to the microcode table (add the CPUID table entries for the 306xx CPUs to the 209xx Sandy Bridge CPUs already in the table, that's all!). I have checked the BIOS using AMI's MMtool, and BIOS ver 7.12 only supports Sandy Bridge CPUs. Can customers using the IPISB-CH2 motherboard, like me, get a BIOS update to support IvyBridge CPUs? -imsai8080 ref:http://www.asrock.com/news/events/2012ivy/ Please note that ASRock is the end-user sales department of Pegatron, which made the IPISB-CH2 motherboard for HP.H67DE3 looks very like the "Chicago" board. further ref:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1155http://www.techpowerup.com/153756/ivy-bridge-quad-core-to-have-77w-tdp-intel-plans-for-lga1155-ivy-bridge-entry.html

I have examined the microcode and there is no support for it, though there is pleanty of room to add it. The BIOS itself is dated 10/12/2011. Simply download the update, change the file extension to .zip, look in the zip, and you'll see the actual mod date for CHG_712_Signed.rom file is 10/12/2011. All they did was update the sp56123.rtf file on 2/14/2012, and later moved it the newer Support format in 4/21/2013 (no files were changed internally). I don't know why they improperly dated it for 4/13. Hope that answers your question, although not the answer either of us wanted.Just to confirm, that's what I'm currently running on a h8-1260t, and 10/12/2011 is the date embedded in the BIOS as well.Big_Dave:Both of us understand that Pegatron is not a retail supplier, and requests for BIOS updates come from the customer, HP. The Ivy Bridge processors were released April 2012, 4 months after the intro of the Chicago board, and ASRock, the *retail* side of Pegatron, announced that all 2nd gen Sandy Bridge mobos (including the H67 motherboards) would have Ivy Bridge support added. IMHO, HP should have requested a BIOS upgrade for their 2nd gen Sandy Bridge Pegatron-based HP motherboards. Obviously, that didn't happen, since their only update is actually dated 10/2011 (see above). It doesn't seem unreasonable to me for HP to drop an request to Pegatron, a *current* motherboard supplier for HP, to cut an upgrade to support the HP motherboards derived fom the retail motherboards Pegatron already have upgraded circa 3 months after the release of the HP (Pegatron) "Chicago" motherboard, which looks AMAZINGLY like the ASRock (Pegatron retail) H67DE3 with the dual graphics support removed (standard for HP), SATA 4 & 5 moved to board edge, and HP proprietary frontpanel connector added in the original place for the H67DE3 SATA 4 & 5 <grin>. Probably a couple minutes with the right BIOS tools and updated microcode from Intel (which I also have!), to support all Chicago-based systems. I'm hoping that maybe a HP Support rep can chime in on this, or someone can tell me where to find tools to recompile to add the SAFUWIN-compatible checksums to a modded BIOS? -Imsai8080 P.S. If it wasn't for the code checksums and the nonstandard SAFUWIN flash programmer, I would already have added the Ivy Bridge microcode myself. Gave it a try, no go so far, but I might keep trying.

  • Is MSI Z77A-G43 a good board? For Ivy Bridge?

Is MSI Z77A-G43 a good board? I have read few problems posted here in the forum. Obviously majority of users use it just fine?
Is the mobo good for Ivy Bridge? I don't see Ivy Bridge listed here http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z77A-G43.html#/?div=CPUSupport

Yes the Z77 supports Ivy Bridge. The CPU support list is not quite up to date as as the time there were no CPUs available, they were supposed to launch April 23rd but have been delayed until some time in June as far as I know.

  • Bios update from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge

hello i wish to put a core i7 3632qm in my hp pavilion g6-1262sa but upon doing so the unit will not post so i been doing a bit of digging to find out that i need a new bios to support the core i7 3632qm

    Hi,
Your current Intel HM65 chipset motherboard supports maximum upto i7 2620M processor, listed in the manual (Page 23).
Intel's sixth-generation mobile chipsets do not officially support Ivy Bridge processors. Ivy brigde processors need HM7X chipsets generally. In this model, Manual clearly lists the compatible processors. So I can't suggest anything else too.

your board is a B3 version (sandybridge capable) there doesn't seem to be any news from msi of adding Ivybridge support to that platform! they seem to be focusing on G3 version boards for that processor support

  • P67a-g43(b) bios

hello.  maybe someone can help me out.  my son got a p67a-g43 motherboard from a classmate in his high school pc class several months ago.  the classmate removed the old processor from it before my son got it and my son wants to put a i5-3570k processor on it, but the bios was still at version 1.b, which from what i read is way too old for this processor.  i was able to make an interface to talk to the bios eprom with my parallel port and upgrade the bios to 1j, but of course that is not what the processor needs either but i was able to confirm my interface worked because the file i wrote and read back was the same as the original v1.j file.
i dont have an older processor to bring this board up to be able to do a windows bios upgrade to v 5.1 and the kid who my son got the board from sold the processor, and i cant afford to send it off to be upgraded, especially where i can do it myself.  what can i do to get a bin/rom version of the v5.1 file so i can write it myself in dos to the eprom????  my son saved up $800 over 8 months  to be able to outfit this board to run and i hate to have him wait longer to buy another board.  i sent a msg off to msi asking for a non exe version of the bios update, but so far no response.  if the exe was extractable on a machine other than the one i am trying to fix it would be no problem, but its not...... i dont have and cant afford an older processor just to fix this board.  can anyone help or suggest anything before my son goes and buys another board from a diff manufacturer?

my son is in the only computer class in the area but they dont teach the hardware repair/flashing part in the class.  they focus more on what to buy and networking, its really a sham.  anyway i can program it, i just need the file.  as i said the v5.1 file on the msi site is in exe self extracting format.  it asks to be on a usb drive.  so when i put it on a usb drive in another pc it then says it cant extract cause its the wrong machine.  so i cant get the file out of it i need to be able to flash it.  if i had the file in would be golden cause i could flash it in no time.  i dont understand why msi released it only in a format that will only extract on the machine its meant for?  i do understand some people will be careless and run a file not meant for their pc but it sucks for those of us who can do this themselves and cant get to the bin/rom file needed to solve a simple problem.  if someone had a copy of the extracted file or had read thier eprom after flashing it with v5.1, my problem would be solved easily.

  • Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge Upgrade in 2012

    @JDay,
I am not sure if it applies for laptops but desktop CPU has BIOS whitelist. I came across threads that when customer tries to upgrade the CPU (even in the same series) the BIOS does not recognize the CPU after upgrading due to BIOS whitelist.
Thus I am not surprise if they have BIOS whitelist for CPU on the ThinkPads.
That happens when you try to stick a processor in a motherboard that shipped with a BIOS that was shipped with firmware intended for processors with less cores. Not a whitelist just the firmware freaking out because there were more cores than it was made to handle. This issue was very common when hexa-core Phenom II CPUs came out and could be fixed in all but a few cases (about 1% of motherboard models didn't have an update) by simply putting the old CPU back in and flashing to the newest BIOS firmware revision.
EDIT: If a BIOS update is required you can bet someone over at the MyDigitalLife forums will release a modified one, especially if it is requested. That is the same place you can find a non-whitelisted BIOS for most ThinkPad models.

  • Which motherboard supports i7 4930k out of the box?

    Hi all,
I have an MSI X79A-GD45 (8D). I bought it when it came out a few years ago - before 4930k existed. It supports 4930k, but needs a BIOS update to do so. I tried performing the BIOS update myself, and bricked the board - both BIOS A and B. I tried two methods - the downloaded file from MSI, and the Svet tool from this forum. Both methods did the same thing - the flash process completed and I also saw the updating ME version dialog. After that it reboots and fails to boot. Everything lights up for literally 1 second and shuts off, and it gets stuck repeating that over and over.
I'm too impatient to RMA it, so I'm just going to go buy a new one. I was wondering if yall knew if the latest X79A GD45's have the latest BIOS updates on them, or at least new enough to support 4930k? If not, know of any mobos that do support it out of the box?

As already covered in the other thread you managed the impossible by bricking this board. All MSI X79 boards support an Ivy Bridge E cpu out of the box if it has been manufactured after the release of the supporting bios. However still there might be boards shelved at the resellers that were manufactured before. No model has been released after Ivy Bridge E launch as X79 is already quite dated. So there is no 100% chance while it is quite likely that most new retail boards for sale now will already support Ivy Bridge. Normally one could easiely update afterwards if obviously having a Sandy cpu like you do but seems as if you are too inexperienced to do that.

  • W530 and Ivy Bridge refresh processors?

Does anyone know when Lenovo will start shipping with the new Ivy Bridge processors that were released in Sept. '12? I'm planning to get a new W530 and was about to buy one with the i7-3920XM but for roughly the same price, I'd rather have the i7-3940XM.
    Thanks for any replies!

On paper, the new processor should offer a 3 percent advantage over the Core i7-3920XM.

  • H61MA-E35 (B3) 4 beeps on POST with Ivy Bridge

Just built this machine, it has never posted and I am getting a 4 beeps and then a reboot whenever it is turned on.
I looked it up online and found it's either it's something to do with a timer(?) or the most probable cause being the current bios not supporting the Ivy Bridge CPU I'm using.
So basically, am I indeed correct in thinking the CPU isn't compatible with the current BIOS? If so, is there anyway to flash it without a cpu/using the incompatible CPU? As I don't really want to buy another processor just to use this one.
    Thanks for any help.

As you don't know what bios you have it is hard to say but it is an old B3 board so most likely it has no Ivy Bridge supporting bios. You could add S/N to say for sure. If it has a bios not supporting Ivy Bridge there is no other way than using a Sandy cpu to update bios or asking MSI or a pc shop to do it for you.

  • P67A-GD55 (B3) bios update to Ivy Bridge, question regarding PCIe-3

    Hi,
Ive just updated my P67A-GD55 (B3) to the 4.0 BIOS for Ivy Bridge and I am a little confused as to whether of not I will be able to benfit from PCIe-3 support on a Ivy Bridge CPU?
I intend to run 2 x GTX 680 in SLI, will I still be limited to PCIe-2 of can my board now take advantage of PCI-e 3?
    Many thanks in advance.

For PCI-E 3.0, a Z68 G3 series mainboard with an Ivy CPU would be needed at the minimum. So far, you are not really missing anything anyway. PCI-E 3.0 doesn't seem to be reported as providing all that much of a performance benefit with current apps, programs, and games.
Having tested GTX 680 on the P67, I must say it is in itself running PCI-E 2.0 very impressive.

  • P67A-GD65 (B3) Ivy Bridge CPU recognition

    Hi all,
I have had this mobo for about a year, and yet I havn't used it, but just recently, I purchased an Ivy Bridge 22nm processor to which to 'try-out' the mobo not knowing the BIOS version. [oops!]
Installing this particular processor, and connecting everything else to the mobo, will it POST despìte the fact that I am unaware of the BIOS version? - Will I able to 'get-into' the BIOS at least? - Any damage to the CPU and/or mobo if turned on and if BIOS version is not the appropiate one?
The thing is, I cannot test the board as I don't have a Sandy bridge CPU at this moment.
    In await of any reply,
    Thanks.

No POST or entering UEFI/BIOS without a supported CPU, sorry. There is almost no advantage to an Ivy CPU in a P67. Yeah, you get prettier BIOS screens, but how much time is spent in there? Recommend to put a Sandy 2700k in it and it will destroy what an Ivy can do performance wise.
I'm running a 2500K in this same motherboard. I had the intention to grab a E3-1290V2 from work when we reconfigure & update the systems there. But it seams your advising against that?
