Will my phone take a sim card from a different country

I was wondering if my phone (australian & on a plan) will take a sim card from Thailand ???

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Any BB can be used on any carrier that runs the same radio frequencies that the BB is capable of (and I've no idea if your's are such). But, to bring a BB onto a carrier network that they did not sell to you, there are several hurdles to cross:
1) The carrier must say "yes" to the fact...they own their network and have every right to say what devices will be allowed to connect to it. If they say "no", then that's the end of it.
2) You must be sure that your BB is properly unlocked from it's originally manufactured-for carrier...see this helpful thread for details:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/General-BlackBerry-Functions-and/Unlocking-your-BlackBerry-Gu...
3) You must get all of your voice level services functioning on the carrier, before you even try anything about data...further, if your BB PIN remains registered with any carrier BIS system, no other carrier will be able to create a BIS account for it. But, if you leave the other carrier BIS account active, it is possible (not guaranteed!) that your BB could receive BIS services from your original carrier while SIM-connected to a different carrier.
4) You must subscribe, from the carrier, to an adequate data plan to enable the BB-proprietary services you desire
5a) If the carrier directly supports your specific model BB, then you can proceed with registering the BB onto their network, generating the proper Service Book delivery to your BB, and proceeding to function.
5b) But, if the carrier does not directly support your specific model number of BB, then the challenges are much greater as most carrier systems will not deliver, to the BB, the necessary service books to enable the BB-proprietary data services, even if you do subscribe to them.
So, depending on all of that, your BB may or may not ever fully function on that carrier network. It can be quite tricky to accomplish, especially if 5b applies. So take a look at all of that and decide how you wish to proceed. Most folks wind up just buying a new BB if 5b applies.
Good luck and let us know!

Can you take the SIM card from an IPad and transfer it to a NEW Ipad (not yet purchased) without any problems? Are there any complicated steps involved? This is for my boss.
Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

    Simple answer is YES.
The only caviat is for instance in the UK some iPads are locked to a specific network provider and therefore if the new iPad is locked then it will only work on the specific network it is locked to.

  • Is there any way to redeem a gift card from a different country

my girls received itunes gift cards from their uncle who purchased them in the US.  But we aren't able to use them since we live in Canada.  Is there any way to use these or are they garbage?

They can't be redeemed or spent in Canada. Sell them to someone in the USA.

  • HT1807 Can I use a sim card from Taiwan when I go there in a month on the new iPhone 5

I am just wondering if I buy the new iPhone 5 on pay as you go. Can I use a sim card from a different country. I am off to Taiwan for 6 months in a month and would like to take the iPhone with me

If your phone is officially unlocked, & either of the three authorized carriers, in Taiwan, have nano sims available, yes. Otherwise you'll have to get International Provisioning activated for your account & use the phone while roaming...very expensive.

  • Switch sim card from old phone into 3GS?

Will it void my iPhone warranty if I take the sim card from my old phone (Nokia E62 if that matters) and put it in my new 3GS? I'll still have the data plan attached to my AT&T account, right? I want to switch sim card so I have all my contacts, but not if it will mess up my new iPhone.

You need to use the SIM that comes with the iphone and get the iphone plan. IPhone and it's SIM are "married" for lack of a better term.
You can import the contacts from your SIM into the iphone.

  • Swapping SIM cards from a 3G phone?

    Hello all,
I'm in a bind with my current IPhone 3G and need your opinion. My 3G is on it's last legs, the "Genius" at the Apple store confirmed it...It's having hardware issues and needs to be replaced.
My issue is that I'm not elligible for an IPhone 4 upgrade till September, but I need to get a new phone since I use it primarily for work. I was thinking about doing this, please let me know if it will work:
Instead of waiting till September to upgrade my phone, I'll add a new line to my existing family plan which will let me get the new 4g for the $199 price. My question is this...can I take the SIM card from my existing 3G phone and plug it into my new 4G phone and retain the same phone number? Or am I stuck with having to use a new phone number on the new phone?
    Any help is appreciated.

"I've been on the phone multiple times with AT&T, they wont budge and upgrade my IPhone early"
Call them and tell them that you want to get an iphone for a new line, then you want to switch phones between the phone numbers. They should be able to help, although (as provided ) you will have to pay for two data plans.

  • Using Sim Card From 3G in 3GS

If I'm replacing my 3G iphone with the new 3GS will I just remove the sim card from the old one and put it into the new activate it with itunes and then restore everything from a backup? Or are we supposed to use the new sim that comes with the new phone?
    John

In addition to what I'm doing above, my wife who is currently using the original iphone will be using the 3G when my new one arrives. If I'm correct she will just need to put her sim card from the old phone into the 3G and let iTunes activate it for her. But again will I need to use the sim that comes with the new phone or take my old one out of the 3G?
    Thanks for any help,
    John

  • HT1316 Can i put my SIM card from my old iphone 5 into my new Iphone 5 i just purcahed? And will my phone start working?

Can i put my SIM card from my old iphone 5 into my new Iphone 5 i just purcahed? And will my phone start working?

Yes all of the iPhone 5 family use the nano sim, so as long as you did not switch to a phone locked to another network it will work.  But you do need to go through the activation/setup procedure with tHat sim.

  • If you switch your sim card from your regular phone to the iphone will it affect the phone bill?

if you switch your sim card from your regular phone to the iphone will it affect the phone bill?

If you have a smartphone data plan it wouln't change it. Otherwise it would force you to choose a smartphone plan. But why don't you just call AT&T and ask? And why do you want to use your old SIM? You can just activate the iPhone with its SIM if the phone is new, and if it's used AT&T will give you a new SIM. Either way you will keep the same number.

  • Iphone bought in USA will not take greek sim card, iphone bought in USA will not take greek sim card

I bought an iPhone 5 in Boston, "unlocked" . The salespeople told me it simply needed to have a sim card inserted, in any country outside the USA.
When I went to my local phone store in Greece, I was told this iPhone will not take a Greek sim card.
Now I have this very expensive phone which I cannot use in the place where I live.
    What do I do now?

thanks so much. you give me courage.
I am certain that this phone is legitimately unlocked,
unless I was handed a locked by mistake, but I really doubt that.
I emphasized to them where I was taking the phone, small island in Aegean, far from apple stores and assistance, also emphasized my weak computer knowledge.
So far, I have only gone to the one local electronics store which services the national phone company.
There is also a Vodaphone outlet, where I will have an exploratory conversation, as soon as possible,
I also have yet to make it to the somewhat vestigial office of the national phone company.
Thanks for hope and a sense of direction.
