Will my replacement iphone be unlocked to all networks?

I have just recieved a replacement Iphone 4s as my old one was faulty, But recently bought myself a Iphone 5.
I wanted to pass the new Iphone 4 onto my sister but i was on Vodafone & shes on 3.
Will the replacement that Apple have sent me be unlocked to all networks? Or still be on Vodafone?
Bearing in mind its a whole new handset.
My sister is awaiting the delivery of her micro sim so cannot test it out to see until that comes.

The replacement handset will have the same carrier profile settings that the old one had. If the old one was carrier locked, the new one will be as well. You can always ask the carrier to unlock the device. It's up to them.
If they agree, the process takes a few days to work thru the system, then you restore the replacement iPhone 4, and the new carrier profile (sim-unlock or carrier unlock) will be applied. But again, it is at the carrier's discretion.

That will open you up to bugs you don't want. These so called service providers to unlock phones are dangerous and many are just money pits for those who participate We will just have to wait for legilation or agreements from our device manufacturers and the carrier networks. (There are a fistful of carriers that do unlock i.e. Att&t)

At about 5 months I bought a second hand iPhone 4S to someone who says you have received as a gift at Christmas to a family that live in the UK .. And as he had wanted to sell a 4S offered him, I ended up paying € 700 at the time and was very pleased because the equipment was found unlocked to all networks .. The point is that this time I came to the UK on business and the equipment does not get any type of mobile network here, not even with the card he used in Portugal .. I do not understand why .. Well, just by saying the name of the Operator of any type of card (SIM) to enter but not get any network ..
I've probably said this Iphone is locked by IMEI in the UK, but would like to know your reviews and what can I do this there is anything that can be done ..

Call AppleCare and give them the model and serial number of the iPhone and ask which cell provider it is locked to. Then call that cell carrier and find out what the procedure is to officially unlock it.

Only the cell carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can authorize an unlock, so you will need to contact the carrier. Note that if the iPhone is locked to AT&T, they will not unlock an iPhone at any time for any reason.

I use an iPhone with the Canadian provider, Fido. I purchased the phone from Fido and signed up for a 3 year contract in order to recieve the phone at the reduced price. I understand that Fido performs a carrier lock on the phone when you sign up in this way so that the phone can only be used on the Fido network.
At the moment I am in the process of cancelling my contract with Fido and switching over to another provider in Canada. After doing some research, I found out that Fido offers a service where they will unlock your phone from their network when you finish your contract, for a fee. Since I am cancelling my contract and paying the early cancellation penalty, my contract will be satisfied and I will be eligible for the unlock service. My plan is to have my iPhone unlocked by Fido so that I can use the phone with my new provider.
My question is this: If I have my phone legitimately unlocked by my provider, will Apple send me an unlocked phone in the event that their is a hardware failure covered under warranty, and I need a replacement iPhone? All my previous replacement iPhones have been, to my knowledge, locked by Apple back onto my provider before they are sent to me. But, it would be awfully annoying if a replacement phone came to me locked onto an old network that I no longer use.

Are you sure about this? I thought so too, but when I received my replacement iPhone 6, it was locked again.
I bought a carrier locked iPhone. Then it was replaced with another carrier iPhone. This second phone (first replacement) was then unlocked. Later the unlocked iPhone was replaced with a third phone (second replacement). To my disappointment the second iPhone replacement is locked.
The Authorized Service center said that Apple made a mistake and should unlock it remotely ASAP. Apple Support however, says that iPhones are replaced with specifications of the originally initially purchased iPhone. If the original was unlocked, they would replace it with unlocked, but if it was locked then replaced with a locked and then unlocked by carrier. The carrier should be contacted again to unlock future replacements. I know it sounds ridiculous and illogical.
If an iPhone has been unlocked (obviously by a carrier), why would you replace it with a locked iPhone and ask the customer to contact his carrier and request another unlock for the replacement iPhone? So inefficient and could be a problem if the carrier allows only one unlock per year per line like most do, or if you are no longer a customer of that carrier.

"Following warranty service your Apple Product or a replacement device will be returned to you as your Apple Product was configured when originally purchased, subject to applicable updates.”
What I understand from this is that replacements will be configured exactly as the originally purchased including any updates made to it. I believe unlock is considered an update.
Apple Support argues that the second device was unlocked (updated), but the original (initial / first) device was not unlocked. Therefore, I should deal with my old carrier to unlock this one.

You will get a refurbished unit that is the same as what you turn in. If yours is locked to a service, then so will the replacement.

Restoring replacement iPhone from unlocked one

I just signed up for a plan with vodafone for an iphone4s last week and i immediately unlocked it online.
however, i have since needed to get a replacement phone from the apple store as my orginal one was overheating.
i restored my new phone from an icloud backup i made of the old one, does this mean that my new phone is now also unlocked from vodafone network, or do i need to call vodafone up to unlock it? (the serial number is not recognised online)

I would expect they will not. I got a replacement 3G back in mid October which still had 3.1 or 3.1.1 on it. First time I sync'd it with iTunes in updated to 3.1.2. Phones with 3.1.3 will probably cycle into inventory over time, but I am pretty sure they don't update existing stock.

Yes, that's correct. Sony could choose to only sell their stuff at Wal-Mart. It wouldn't make good business sense, but it's perfectly legal. What is your basis for calling for a "fine" on Apple and/or AT&T?

Will Apple replace iPhone 5 for broken lock button, if under warranty ?

I've had my iPhone 5 around 5 months.
For a few days the button has been sticking, and I've had to press it around 6 times to get it to lock/wake.
However today, the button is totally stuck and isn't even clicking at all.
It's still in warranty, however I haven't got AppleCare or insurance with O2.
On Apple's support page, it stated I can send it off to be repaired, however, this can take 7 days.
If I make a Genius appointment, and go into the store, do they sent it off or replace it you there and then.

If it's defective, as opposed to physically damaged due to accident or abuse, then Apple will replace the phone.
If you make an appointment and take it in to the genius bar, they should be able to replace it on the spot.

Actually, odds are it was indeed carrier locked. Perhaps hacked to make it seem unlocked, but given the price difference between a contract subisidized iPhone (all of which are carrier locked in the USA) and an unlocked iPhone (which are only available directly from Apple in the USA), most iPhones sold used and claimed to be unlocked are actually just hacked. In which case, Apple would have replaced it with an iPhone locked to the carrier it was originally sold as locked to.

Yeah been on the phone to them they say it's up to three I've been on the phone to three they say it's down to apple. Typical passing the buck the only way I will know is when I test the phone.
