Will my TM drive still work if...

I upgrade the HDD in my computer?
I have a macbook pro with only a 80gb drive, needless to say, I'm out of space. I was going to take it to a certified apple service center tomorrow and have them upgrade to the same 250gb drive that you can get in the new MBPs. My question is will my time machine drive still work as if I never changed anything?
Thanks

Ok, thanks for your help.
I know I will still be able to manually access the TM drive and drag files I need but what about applications? Can I drag programs I have installed over to my new applications folder and will they work?
you can do it with apps that were installed by drag and drop into the Applications folder. Those that were installed using installers need to be reinstalled from scratch.
Also unrelated question: You know how with iTunes you can only have 5 computers per account/library? How can I cancel some of the old computers without doing it on the specific computer? 3 of my 4 accounts are on computers/drives that don't exist anymore....
you really should post new questions in new threads. You can deauthorize all your computers at once and then reauthorize the ones you need.
Choose Store menu > View My Account, and then click Deauthorize All. If you don't see this option, it's because you don't have five authorized computers.

  • If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work?

If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work? My current version of Final Cut Pro is 6.0.6. Thanks.

Apple is not telling you the Complete story about Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 is Power PC code/ IBM CPU code, which Lion does not support.
FCP 6 is NOT Power PC code, it will run on Lion and Mountain Lion, as I have read on many posts.
    The solution??
Solution condition where FCP 6 installed and upgrading OS to Lion
Do nothing, its already running OK
Solution condition where FCP 6 not installed and OS Lion installed.
Connect a firewire drive to your MAC and install the old OS on it (eg snow leopard) ,
    Reboot to that OS
    Install FCP 6
Reboot to your new OS   (EG Lion)
    Run FCP 6

  • Running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build.  If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work?

I am running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build.  If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work?  There does not appear to be an updated version of MS Office for Mac past 2011 that I bought last year and am using now.  Thoughts? Suggestions?
    Thanks.

Office 2008 and 2011 will run on Mavericks, but you may not be able to get the installer for it at this time.

I have a LOT of projects involved and hope they will transfer. Can I (and should I) upgrade GB at the same time and how far should I go with that without causing a problem with my projects? What would I gain if I upgrade GB? Thanks!

my copy of 4.1.2 appears to work under 10.6.8, though i have not done extensive tests

v4 is pretty lonh in the tooth now, and GB only costs $15, so I'd think it's a good idea

the only version you can buy new is v6,a nd it should open older projects without issue ... however you could keep 4 around:

  • If I block safari will find my iphone still work

If I block safari app on iPhone 5c will FIND MY IPHONE Still work?

Yes, blocking all data would prove to be a problem for Find My iPhone, and it would only work when connected to wi-fi. Also, you could not block other internet browsers, except you could block the installation of other apps. You could restrict Safari and the installation of apps, which would prevent using Safari and installating other web browsers, and that should still allow cellular data for Find My iPhone. You would also have to look at any other data using apps, such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. that would user Internet if you were to see about not using Smart Limits. That is a hard call to make.

  • After upgrade will older iDVD themes still work?

I currently have iLife 05 Installed with all themes from iDVD 1 to 5. Will these older themes still work after an iLife 06 upgrade?

Hi AIR, and welcome to discussions!
Yes, in iDVD 6 are included the old themes: from iDVD5, 4, and 22 themes called "old themes". I don't know if those are all of the ones from 1 to 3, but looks like.
Anyway, you can keep for some days both version 5 and 6 of iDVD if you rename iDVD 5 with a different name (like "iDVD 5") before installing version 6.

  • Will all my apps still work after upgrade?

I am always nervous doing any updates because inevitably some apps start working funny or don't work at all after them. I really want to update to Lion, but I'm concerned about some older apps I have, the number one being Final Cut Pro 7. Will this still work after the Lion upgrade? As well as all my other software?
    Thank you!

How do you mean install onto a test drive? I've never done that before.
Connect an bare external drive and install Lion onto that. Test all of your critical software to ensure it works. If you have some vitally important piece of 3rd party software that doesn't work in Lion, you may have to continue to use Snow Leopard until an update to that 3rd party software is available or you find a replacement.

  • Will the G-Drive Mini work with the Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter?

I'm closing in on buying a new MacBook Pro, but the lack of FireWire on the new retina models is worrying me. I've seen a lot of negative responses in regard to the Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter, specifically in regards to the G-Raid mini - most of them noting it's the dual drive that's the issue.
So would any of you happen to know - does a G-Drive mini work well with the Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter? I will be doing a lot of heavy video editing if that makes any difference.

I found out after purchasing a Retina MacBook Pro that you can in fact use the G-RAID Mini, the way to do it is to have two Thunderbolt to FireWire adapters, plug in the first one to the drive and the computer, wait for the drive to start clicking, and then plug the other cable between the computer and the G-RAID on the second port.
This obviously only works if you have a rMBP as you need the two Thunderbolt ports.

  • Restoring Vista O/S from Win 8.1 upgrade. Will the restore disks still work?

My HP G60 came with Vista. It has been upgraded to Windows 8.1 but the audio function has become non-functional. Is there a need for a new driver to solve this issue? If not, I am thinking of restoring Vista from restore disks. Can the restore disks still work now that it has Windows 8.1 in it?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Restoring with Recovery Disks with work and take back the system to Windows Vista. However, If you need drivers, please follow these steps:
    1. In the Run box type devmgmt.msc.
    2. Unknown devices would be listed as such and marked out with a yellow question mark.
    3. Select the unknown device or other device for which you need drivers and right click to access Properties.
    4. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  or Hardware ID from the drop down.
    5. An alphanumeric string like this PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_01\4&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device.
    6. Please provide this number so that we can suggest the appropriate driver.

  • HT3258 Will Word and Excel still work if I upgrade to Mount, Lion

If I upgrade to M. Lion, will the Word and Excel programs I have on my Mac still work?
    Thanx - M

It depends on which version you have. If they are very old PowerPC only programs - over six years old or so - they will not run.
A better solution is to try a number of better, free alternatives. Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
I use Apple's Pages ($19.99) as well as OpenOffice and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • Will iPhone 1.0 still work as an iPod touch if AT&T service is stopped?

If I purchase an iPhone 2.0 and my existing iPhone 1.0 AT&T service is transferred/upgraded to iPhone 2.0, will my iPhone 1.0 then function as an iPod touch? Or will it be a brick?

iPhone 2.0 is a software update that includes many new features and can be installed in your current iPhone. If you do get the new iPhone (called the iPhone 3g) your old one would still work just fine. One of the major differences between the old and new iPhones is GPS (Global Positioning System). The original iPhones won't have true GPS like the iPhone 3g, even with the software update.

  • If i install mavericks will my iwork'09 still work

I have downloaded but not installed mavericks on my macbook pro but am dithering about installing it.  Does iwork'09 work on it or will I be forced to pay for an upgrade.  I don't want to have a problem with older documents not being able to be opened.

iWork '09 will still work in Mavericks.
Apple has chopped away at all its software not just iWork.
Mavericks itself is a cut back OS in some regards and also only still at version 10.9.1. Usually I only fully commit when the OSX reaches v.3
I find it can be slow to respond on occassion and I do not like the implementation of Labels/Tabs. In fact there is a thread in the Mavericks forum almost as large as the feature list one we have here, just on that subject and the users are just as unhappy.
There is also the fact that it denies you older useful software that is not Mavericks compatible and pushes you deeper into relying on iCloud, the Mac App Store and other fav Apple ideas. I feel Apple's noose ever so gently tucking up under my Adams Apple in Mavericks.
If you already have paid versions of iWork '08 or '09 you will not have to pay for the Mavericks versions.
Keep in mind however that the latest iWork Apps are incompatible with everything else except themselves and hardware that can run Mavericks and iOS7.
iWork for iCloud beta is still just beta and more limited than any of the other variations. Really only to be used as a last resort.
