Will netflix work on my powerbook

I have a Powerbook G4 1.33GHz 1gig ram  OS 10.5.8 can I use Netflix with it?

There is talk that Netflix might be dumping SilverLight which wouild be a great move. They plan to possibly move over to HTML5, but its too early to tell if in fact this will even occur.. For now, Netflix does not work on PPC Macs.. but there is a work around..
Look up Plex.. Plex might be your answer.

  • Will Serial ATA or SATA Hard Drives work in a Powerbook G4?

I have a 15" Powerbook G4, 867MHz, and I'm looking to buy a new internal Hard Drive. After a few searches, it appears I need a 2.5" HD, but I don't know much about hardware so I'm hoping someone can clarify for me:
Will a Serial ATA or SATA HD work or do I need to find an ATA-100 or older drive?
Is there a maximum RPM or size capacity that will work with my Powerbook G4?
    Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help. For anyone else looking at this thread, I was also told at fries that PATA (Parallel ATA) is the new name for ATA/IDE Hard Drives. I just installed a Western Digital 2.5" 250GB PATA drive and haven't had any problems so far. Actually, when I updated from 10.5 to 10.5.8 and restarted, I was stopped at the gray screen with the prohibitory sign (circle with a line through it), but this could be unrelated. After powering off and rebooting, everything booted fine, so I'm assuming things are ok at this point.

  • HT204291 Netflix will not work with IOS 7 on my HD TV, The screen comes up but will not play video. It says i need to disable mirroring. I dont have a Apple TV any suggestions?

Netflix will not work on my HD Tv with the New IOS7. All other and movies clips work fine. The netflix screen says you need to disable mirroring to play. It plays on the ipad but just the Netflix screen on the tv. Any suggestions?

    Hi Everyone,
hope this message finds you all in time. The recent Apple TV update 5.1 is terrible. Apple knows it is which is why (thankfully for some relentless user -I have no idea who but I believe it was under threat) they have allowed to sign 5.0.2 again which means you can downgrade your Apple TV 2 and 3 to a 5.0.2 version via iTunes. Who knows how long they will keep the window open but I have downgraded my ATV early this morning. I couldn't post this earlier because I was out all day but I am doing it now.
    Here's how to do it:
    1) Connect your ATV to your computer via a Mini USB (not included with ATV but included with many other electronic devices) - in order for your ATV to appear in iTunes you must FIRST plug the USB cable to your computer and ATV and only THEN plug the power cable.
    2) Download your ipsw restore file from Apple.
    5.0.2 (ATV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    5.0.2 (ATV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    3) In iTunes select yout ATV, hold SHIFT and click on Restore
    4) Find and choose the downloaded IPSW file in the Open Dialog Box and hit Next
    5) As long as Apple still signs that version the Restore process will begin and will take a few minutes to complete.
    Enjoy!

  • Will iSight work with 500mhz PIsmo Powerbook

Hey - I am looking to set up iSight on my son's 700 mhz G4 eMac and my Powerbook G3 500mhz. Question is - will it work?

This has now become two questions
    1) Can an external iSight work on a G3/500mghz ?
    2) Can a USB camera do the same ?
The answer to both is http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
This was originally designed to do these jobs as separate entities. Allow external iSights to work on sub Spec Macs (those below G3/600) AND to allow USB cameras to work on the then Spec machines.
However experimentation has taught us that it will do both together - Allow a USB cam on a slower than spec mac.
The slowest ever has been a G3/400 although this was fairly blocky.
The site above has a Camera list page as well.
You Will not get pics as seen in adverts of video stream elsewhere here at Apple.com
You will be successful with some sort of possibly acceptable video stream pic.

Ok so I use an hdmi connector on my iPhone 4S to watch netflix. But after I updated to iOS 7 it will not work my tv doesn't receive a signal. Does anyone have any insure to this please help .!.!.

The 8 pin Lightning connector can only output 720p and lacks all iPod Out functionality unlike the full iPod Out functionality and 1080p that the 30 pin connector has and I suspect that they are coding iOS 7 specifically for the new devices which have severely reduced abilities and perhaps skipping adding the code needed for 30 pin devices to use their functionality with HDMI, etc.

  • I need a version of itunes that will work on my powerbook G4?

I tried the latest version of itunes and my powerbook does not support it.  Love itunes- what version works on older powerbooks?

Depends the age of the Powerbook, and your operating system.
Powerbook G4 867 Mhz or higher can run Mac OS X 10.5 to 10.5.8, but do not support Classic when doing so.
Depending on the age, they may support booting into Mac OS 9 while maintaining Mac OS X 10.5.8.
This link explains what versions of iTunes work with what Mac OS X versions.
    iTunes for 10.4 & 10.5 is here.
A newer version for 10.5 only is here.
Older versions may be found here.

  • Both cameras on my iPod touch generation 4 will not work anymore. Is there a way I can send it back to get it fixed? Thank you ..

Both cameras (front/back) will not work anymore. I would tap on the camera app, and the camera shutters would stay closed for a while and when it finally opens, it leaves a full blank screen. Is there a way I could send it in and get that repaired?

  • Help! limewire will not work on my Mac mini 10.4.11 now that i cleaned it

Help! LimeWire will not work on my Mac mini 10.4.11 now that i cleaned it out and had to get the new LimeWire. It keeps asking for Java 1.6 but I'm having no luck. :O( LimeWire was the reason I bought a Mac!

    Very weird day in Firefoxland
First on a Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 I respond to an invitation to upgrade to Firefox 4 (like a lot of others). Long story short, I wind up losing the browser altogether -- including all bookmarks. Why? Because neither the Firefox homepage (or CNET downloads) makes it clear that 4.0 is for OS 10.5 only! Amazing!
Then I try to register to post a reply in a thread that crits Firefox for not making this System Requirements info upfront clear. But the Register page I’m taken to (https://support.mozilla.com/bs/users/register) is in SERBO-CROATIAN!!
Then I try to log into Chat a couple of times and when it’s not CLOSED its a long line waiting and THEN it closes.
WOW!! Are the wheels off the wagon here or what!?!

  • Will Xserve work without a rack?

Before I get all these rants about how stupid this question is let me preface it with a short story:
The owner of my company wants a new server. He asked me which I thought was better: tower or rack mount. I said that the PowerMac doesn't have the service warranty we would expect from a server, and as a desktop, is not really designed to run 24/7 the same way Xserve is. So we configured a new Xserve and it is in the process of being made. He then asked me the question: "will it work without a rack?" Being honest, I said "It would power on, but it's not recommended to run that way because it can't cool properly and it's not physically secure."
Now he tells me we aren't ordering a rack for this $6000 server. Can you please list all the reasons this is NOT going to work, so I can go back to him with a huge rebuttal? It just doesn't seem logical to me to not spend a few hundred dollars to properly secure this very expensive piece of equipment, and I don't have any fight left in me to come up with all the answers on my own.
    PowerBook G4 12" 1.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   5th Gen iPod Video, 1st Gen iPod Nano

    He then asked me
the question: "will it work without a rack?" Being
honest, I said "It would power on, but it's not
recommended to run that way because it can't cool
properly and it's not physically secure."
Speaking from my limited experience (18 months) with our Xserve G5: The Xserve does not need top and bottom venting; it cools front to back. A risk, though, will be that it gets shoved back against a wall and thus has poor airflow out the back, and you don't realize until you have done it what a mess of cables comes out the back and why you need the cable management arm (as aggravating as it is when you first use one) to manage the cables.
The Xserve is heavy. It's difficult to walk away with one. The enclosure lock will still work without a rack, but it's not real security anyway, just protection against the drives being bumped out by accident. But an unracked Xserve will be prone to injury and falling off a table, etc. They are BIG and HEAVY. The Intel Xserve is even longer than the Xserve G5 (look at the dimensions).
If the concern is the expense, well, you can build your own rack rather cheaply. I suggest Starcase (http://www.starcase.com), which lets you build a rack of any dimensions - you will probably want at least a 3U or 4U rack for your Xserve - 1U for the Xserve, 1U for a UPS (APC has a nice 1U 1000W UPS and a same-size 750W UPS), 1U for a tape drive and autoloader (you will need to back up all that data), and you might need another few rack units of height. The nice thing about the Starcase rack solution is that, as your rack height needs expand, you can simply get the four corner posts of greater height and grow your rack. Starcase also has side panels, top panels, etc. For custom-height solutions (rather than their pre-bundled standard sizes), see:
    http://www.starcase.com/customsteel_rackstore.htm
Check the Starcase prices so you can present your boss with a true picture of the cost. They are built like a tank. I STRONGLY advise that you put your Xserve in a rack; otherwise, it will be very difficult to service when the time comes - and you WILL need service, eventually.
However, note that the Xserve is NOISY. If the Xserve is going to be in an office environment, you will need an acoustical enclosure, such as the XRack Pro. See:
    http://www.xrackpro.com/
Very nice, very quiet, and a bit pricy.
    Hope this helps.

  • Will iCloud work without OSX Lion?

Will iCloud work only with OSX Lion? I cannot use Lion on my G4 Powerbook, and Mobile Me is going away in a few months, so does this mean that only my newer devices will work with iCloud?

That's correct. You can access mail on iCloud by entering the settings in your Mail application, but you have to have a Mac with 10.7.2 or an iOS device to set the account up in the first place, and the other facilities won't work.

  • Sync scenario -- will it work?

I have a Palm T3, two Macs at home (iMac and Powerbook laptop) and a PC at work. I purchased The Missing Sync this weekend in hopes of being able to regularly perform the following simple tasks:
    * Sync only three out of five categories in T3's Contacts with Adress Book on my iMac (the other five categories I wouldn't want in Address Book). Then, I'll use my .Mac account to sync iMac and Powerbook Address Books.
    * Sync T3 with Palm desktop on iMac at home and PC at work.
Does this scenario seem reasonable -- do-able?
I've already done some work with Missing Sync, and due to a couple of glitches I'm working through, thought I'd stop and ask this question to make sure my expectations are o.k.
    Thanks for any responses.
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

As Dirk indicated, it's likely not a process doomed to failure as long as you stay 'in bounds' and account for the inherent limitations of these technologies. I really think that the Sync Services framework is an amazing piece of work, but some components, particularly iCal and iSync, do not perform with Palm OS, Windows Mobile OS and other devices as one might reasonably expect them to. In this case, the inherent limitations of the Palm OS are showing too.
I had assumed that you also intended to have iCal in mix - your decision not to include it actually greatly reduces the likelihood of data corruption or loss.
The problems with iCal are manifested by, among other things…
    • the inclusion of both calendaring and task data with iSync [though the Missing Sync for Palm OS breaks these out]
    • the inherent 'disconnect' with handling events spanning more than a day, and with repeating events
You're not likely to encounter substantial problems reading and writing contact data alone in the manner you describe, though you might want to instead consider using Plaxo as an intermediary. The basic account is free, there is an Address Book plug-in which does a great job, and its easily accessible from a PC. There's more here:
    http://www.plaxo.com
Oh, and one more thing: Plaxo seems orders of magnitude more reliable than .Mac Sync, as does MySync. I've never experienced a problem at all using Plaxo or MySync, but .Mac Sync has been an endless series of headaches. When it works, it meets my somewhat limited expectations. When it doesn't, and it often does not, then it creates substantial problems. I cannot imagine depending upon it to actually synchronize data frequently and reliably. It just does not perform, in my experience.
While it's a matter for a different thread, .Mac Sync suddenly stopped working at all for me recently. No amount of effort on my part, including reinitializing the truth and unregistering then reregistering Sync clients [something that requires developer tools, and that users cannot do], nor forced resets initiated through System Preferences could correct the problem. Why? The answer should be obvious - the problem is a server side, not client side, issue. There is no chance that the .Mac support team will buy that, and it's worthless to engage in yet another fruitless interchange with them. Nice people, but completely clueless. It will either work again someday, spontaneously, or it will not. [Just imagine actually having to depend upon a technology like that.]
If you decide to explore MySync as an alternative to .Mac Sync, here is a link:
    http://www.mildmanneredindustries.com/mysync
Experimenting with test records to test the 'boundaries' of your scenario is a great idea, and should quickly identify potential problems. One last thought: back up. Frequently.
