Will New apple tv make existing models obsolete??

Or will there be an update to existing models that will allow them to have the same functions as the new apple tv's. I've been reading alot about the speculation of the upcoming itv, but nothing on a software update to existing ones.

I would assume you can still purchase movies on the Mac, and the iPod, iPhone, and iPad, which seem to all sync with this new AppleTV anyway, so I don't think it's that big of a deal to rent only from the set top box... I realize it stinks when a feature is taken away, but maybe it's better for the new device to work that way. Maybe that's part of why it does more and is only $99. Or maybe it's because they will be able to get us better rental pricing, or ?
Just doesn't seem to be that big of a deal...

  • HT5616 Will new apple id impact on existing files?

My email address is expired because i am retired from my company. So i want to change my Apple id. Is there Any affect on my existing files in keynote, pdf, ibook, etc? And how to change apple id?

I will make this clear - DO NOT CREATE A NEW APPLE ID!
CHANGE the email associated with your current Apple ID or you will create headaches you will hope never to recover from. :-)
Before following the instruction JimHdk provided, be sure to also create security questions if you haven;t already done so, and add a recovery email address. This is insurance in case something goes wrong. I really suggest you do not skip these two steps.
    Good luck.

  • New Apple iMac with Existing Software

I currently use 64 bit Lightroom 3.0 MLP on my PC.  I justed ordered the new Apple iMac 27 inch and I'm trying to get confirmation as to whether or not my software will work on the iMac.  Some people say it will be fine and others said that I'll have to order an iMac that's reconfigured.  Help, does anyone know if the software has to be ordered special for iMacs?

    >The same serial number will work on Mac and/or Windows (max 2 activations).
The serial number will actually work on as many installations as you try it on. You would just be breaking the license agreement if you actually do that so I'd advise against that. This is different from the CS apps where the license is actually checked over the internet and you need to deactivate your old installation if you upgrade your computer which is always a pain. WIth Lightroom if you upgrade your computer, you can just wipe the old computer's harddisk and not be worried that your license number won't work on the new computer.

  • Integrating new Apple devices to existing Windows environment

Greetings. Can anyone direct me to a thread or white paper detailing the benefits in adding an OSX server to an existing Windows server environment?
Our company has about 100 windows PCs in a Windows AD environment. We've recently added a few MB Pros, iPhones and iPads. We've already got them working with existing AD accounts and we can map file shares and printers (sort of), but this is slow and seems inefficient.
If this is posted in the wrong category, thanks in advance for directing me to the right one.

    Hi
If you already have Active Directory that will be providing Kerberos Authentication anyway. OSX Server would not add to what you already have. What you do get is easy access and use of the Wiki and Blog Service as well as Apple's SUS. Open Directory is actually very good and in some circumstances and environments and depending on what you want to achieve better than Active Directory IMO. All of these are easy to setup. You also get Apple's equivalent of Microsoft's WDS - NetBoot. However if you currently only have a few workstations or IOS devices there's no real reason I can think of. For the few workstations you have you can just as effectively manage them locally - assuming you're interested in managing them?

Kerberos Authentication for Print Servers is fully supported in OSX as long as you configure things correctly:
    http://www.cups.org/
If you've installed Print Services for UNIX it should work? Another approach is to simply let the few Macs you have print to desired printers directly.

  • Is it possible to use Aperture to make a new image from two existing ones--ie, in a new jpg? I essentially want to create a collage that I can then print as a single image, rather than in a book. Any advice will be most welcome!

Is it possible to use Aperture to make a new jpg from two existing ones? I'd essentially like to create a photo collage (without using existing templates) that I can then print as a single image, rather than in a book. Any advice will be most welcome! Thanks.

    (Added)
The main point is that Aperture is used to make digital negatives as good as they can be (for the uses you define), but it does not ADD date to your digital negatives, nor does it produce NEW combination files.  For those tasks you need a Graphics program.

  • If my iMessage is hooked up to my moms phones and I make a new Apple ID will my imessages still send to her phone?

Me and my mom have the same Apple ID. Recently she has started reading my iMessages from her phone since we have the same Apple ID. I've turned off my iMessage on my phone so she can't read my texts since they are just texts not iMessages. And I can't get her phone to uncheck my number off of her 'Send and Receive' options. My question is, if I create a new Apple ID and use that, will she still be able to  read my texts. When I created my new Apple ID, it's giving me two send and receive options: my number and my email. If I check off my number, even though it is still checked off on my moms phone, can she see them? I don't want to have to send iMessages and have it send as "[email protected]" I want it to say my number "xxx-xxx-xxxx" If anyone knows how to help me that's be great. thanks.

But my whole issue is that I can't get on my moms phone to turn it off. I'm asking even if I make a new Apple ID and under send and receive click on these two options,
    send and receive messages at:
    -248-25x-xxxx(my number)
[email protected](new Apple ID I made)
will my messages still be sent to my moms phone even though I'm using a different Apple ID.  because on hers, it has her number, my number and her Apple ID  all turned on. If I'm not making sense I'll try and explain better. But currently her send and receive looks like this:
    send and receive messages at:
    -248-79x-xxxx(her number)
    -248-25x-xxxx
    [email protected]

  • If I make a new apple id or I cloud account will I lose my pictures and contacts etc..

If I make a new apple id or I cloud account will I lose my pictures and contacts etc..

If this is becuase you cannot access your old account I would try everything first before making a new account.
    expresslane.apple.com or http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/account/ or 1-800-APL-CARE.
If you delete the icloud account from your device it will remove the photostream and documents stored in the cloud from the device (if you're using iwork or another app that uses icloud to sync documents).
Photos from the camera roll will still be there.
It will ask if you want to keep the contacts, calendars, reminders, and bookmarks.
If you want to save your contacts choose "Keep on my iphone"
If you create a new apple ID you won't lose anything except your previous purchases, meaning if you wanted to redownload that app you paid for before, you will have to pay for it again with the new ID.

  • If I make a new Apple ID will I loose all of my apps

If I make a new Apple ID will I loose all of my apps?

The apps will always be tied to the account from which they were purchased.  Your computers will need to be authorized for that account and you will have to use that account to upsate the apps.

  • I have a question, I've always used my moms old email for my Apple ID because I got my first apple product when I was a little kid and I didn't have an email so if I change it will people have to make new contacts of me on their devices?

I have a question I've always used my moms old email for my Apple ID but when I text on iMessage it says my moms email is the one who sent the message and it's embarrassing so if I change my Apple ID email will my friends have to make new contacts of me on their devices? please answer this as soon as possible I beg you.

If you get your own Apple ID, then you will need a new email address unless you have an email address that is different from your mom's. In that case you use your own email address as your Apple ID.
You will have to reconfigure everything to associate them with your new Apple ID. This also means any apps or music you  purchased using your mom's Apple ID will have to be repurchased using your Apple ID.

  • Will I lose everything if I make a new apple ID

I have been using my moms apple ID with her name and credit card and all her stuff because I was a kid with an Ipod and she liked to monitor what I was doing and downloading and stuff. Well now I am 18 and I am getting an Iphone. Im going to be paying for all the songs and what not. My question is, can I keep all of my old songs that her account bought under my new Apple Id. Can I put these old songs on the new phone with a different ID.

Purchased items are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them originally. They can not be transferred.
That said, most music is not DRM protected. You could, conceivably take that with you. Apps and movies, not so much.

  • Old project with entity 4.0 breaks when adding new model or updating an existing model.

i have an old 4.0 project that was using entity 4.0
in VS2013 if I try to update an existing model or add a new one, it will forcefully install the entity framework 5.0 even though the selection in the box was to use 4.0
it goes out to nuget to do this and then it will forever add 5.0 even if I uninstall it.
5.0 getting installed completely breaks my application. References to tables disappear and cross reference for NO reason at all with another model.
How can i get it to just let me use 4.0 so I can move on OR how can i upgrade my old model into 5.0?
I'd rather not got tthe 5.0 route because that changes a lot of the ways things were done and would break even more code.

    Hello,
    >>in VS2013 if I try to update an existing model or add a new one, it will forcefully install the entity framework 5.0 even though the selection in the box was to use 4.0
It is not very clear how you install the Entity Framework, as far as I know, the EF version 4.0 is available with .NET 3.5, from .NET 4.0, it will use the 5.0 by default, if you want to use the EF 4.0, you could change the target to .NET 3.5.
    >>How can i get it to just let me use 4.0 so I can move on OR how can i upgrade my old model into 5.0?
If it is EF 5.0, as far as I know, it uses the DbContext API instead of the original ObjectContext API(the EF 4.0 uses this API) which provides a better performance, if you want to keep to use ObjectContext API, you could follow this article:
Reverting Back to ObjectContext Code Generation
The article shows the configuration for VS2012, for VS2013, you could change the Code Generation Strategy from T4 to Legacy ObjectContext.

  • How to set up a new apple e-mail address when already have an existing Apple ID

    Hello
Thank you for taking a look at my query - I have searched many posts but not found a specific answer to my question - so please help!
    My dilemma:
I am in effect running everything smoothly - I am already on iCloud and have an @me.com mail address.
The problem arises in that I need to change my name (due to a divorce) and hence my e-mail address -  I would like to use my maiden name for obvious reasons!
    So what have I tried?:
I have set up a new Apple ID using a 'hotmail' address, as you need an existing address to set an ID, but would actually like a new 'apple' address. How do I do this? Since I have registered all my devices (iMac, iPad 3 and iPhone 3GS) with iCloud already using my married name ID it seems I am unable to get another appleID? Is this true? Is there a way around this?
    Concerns:
I have many communications with lawyers and ex and various other things I would like to keep on my existing apple ID/mail account (and also itunes etc) I still need to be able to access this information. I am happy to keep this  apple ID active at the same time as having the new ID if this is possible on all the same devices? Currently however I do not know how to do this, i.e. run two mail accounts through iCloud OR ideally transfer my info to the new ID - however from reading around I believe this latter (logical) option may be impossible?
    So:
... I need a knight (or maiden) in  shining armour to help me understand my options, answer the Q's above and provide the steps I have to follow to do this as I am no IT guru! And as there are many similar Qs without a clear answer I'm sure you will gain lots of points!
    Thanking you kindly in advance!
PS. Apple if you are reading this please can you do something about this situation as there seem to be many questions around this issue. Unfortunately divorce and name changes are a frequent part of life these days and it would be good if you can accommodate this!

OK, so I realised I was still within my 90days of being able to get support from Apple due to recent iPad3 purchase.
So between what I have gleaned from this forum and what I have learnt from the support call here I hope is a comprehensive one stop shop  answer to the question... "How do I get another Apple e-mail address ?" It's not straight forward but bear with me as you will get a result (also if anyone with IT prowess can offer further advice or clarification please do reply to this so we keep all info in the same place)... right -  we shall begin:
First a few points to bear in mind/wise words that I wish I was aware of before:
You preferably do not want more than one Apple ID so that syncing etc is straight forward. SO create an e-mail address that you will be happy to have no matter what, whether you are married/divorced (and yes it unfortunately could happen...) etc...
    So...
    1. First go to www.myinfo.apple.com, change your country as required and click on manage your account. Log-in. Should go straight to your Name, ID and e-mail tab.
    2. OK you are now presented with one of two scenarios....
    a) If your AppleID and primary e-mail address  is a me.com (or mac.com) then you are unlikely to have an edit option next to this line - follow point 3. Another ID has to be generated, and unfortunately (as Winston Churchill above rightly pointed out, the problem that you will have on the whole is that any purchases you make from the iTunes Store under your previous account, will be inaccessible on many of your devices. - IF however all you wanted is a new e-mail address and you are happy to keep running your old ID at the same time - there is a way around this .... read on to point 3)
    b) If your AppleID and primary e-mail address is not a me.com (or mac.com) then - follow point 4. This is the better option to have, hop skip and jump with glee as you will in effect have the same ID account and syncing will not be an issue. But note that your new ID will not be editable going forward so head my words of wisdom above.
NB. If you already have more than one ID and one of the 'Apple ID and primary e-mail' is editable i.e. 2b) then choose this option to change as it is simpiler to manage.
    3. OK lots of steps here and explanations:
    i) You need to create another Apple ID - there are two ways of doing this a) if you go to your iphone or ipad settings > iCloud > delete your account (Don't worry you are effectively only signing out and not deleting) (you'll be given an option what to do with your contacts) > The page will then give you an option to create a new Apple ID.... follow the steps, and you will get a new me.com  AppleID and primary e-mail address.
    b) If you do not have an iphone or ipad - use your computer: Go to sytem preferences > icloud > sign out of account (again you will be given an option to keep contacts on the computer etc. do what is appropriate for you). An iCloud window  should then pop up - and there is an option to 'Create an Apple ID'... follow the steps, in 2nd step (after date of birth input)  go for the free iCloud  option and do not use an existing e-mail address (e.g. hotmail or gmail)... as it then gets more complicated (I did go down this route as I didn't know any better - so I can explain if you wish to know - just ask) - continue with the steps and you will get a new me.com AppleID and primary e-mail address.
ii) Now assuming you have an itunes account and other devices... and you will want to sync everything across devices... then ensure you log back into your OLD account and use this as your main  account on all devices. This will keep all things synced between devices with no problems.
iii) To get your new e-mail account active go to all your devices and computer and just add the new me.com address as another account:
    a) on iphone and ipad: settings > mail, contacts, calendars > "add account"
    b) on computer assuming you use mail: Mail>preferences>account information> hit the '+' under the left hand account box and fill in the details... You will then effectively have two mail boxes running in mail - your previous and new one. What I have noticed is that you can drag and drop (which will copy) mailboxes you created in your old account into your new account - which is great as you can keep the stored messages to hand and effectively you can taper down use of the old account (or use as you wish) over time and eventually not notice the old account is in the background.
Hey presto you have a new e-mail address AND your devices are syncing itunes, photostream etc...
    4) So - much better option....
    i) create a new Apple ID as per point 3i) above.
ii) go back to www.myinfo.apple.com, change your country as required and click on manage your account. Log-in with old ID. Under Apple ID and primary e-mail adress - click edit and now insert your new me.com Apple ID. This will now be both your ID and primary e-mail address. This is where my knowledge (gleaned from this Forum) stops on this option - as unfortunately it did not apply to me. But I think it will get you where you want!
Hope all this info helps rather than hinders!! It definitely would have helped me
    Enjoy.

  • Am I going to need a new router, or can I upgrade my existing model ?

    Hi
I wonder if someone could help me out here, I have a Edimax AR 7084gA 802.11g wireless router which is 4 years old, it has been running my husbands Acer Aspire 9300 laptop running Linux Ubuntu (and previously Vista) for 4 years and, and my MacBook running Leopard and now Snow Leopard for over 3 years without any connectivity problem.
We both have a 3g iPod Touch now running on iOS4, since the purchase of both iPods we have been having trouble with both of them loosing internet connection, we open Safari and are told the content is loading but nothing happens, three bars are showing for the signal most of the time. To combat the problem we are having to re-set the network settings a couple of times a day and this solves the problem straight away, and then it works just fine for hours.
We have used both iPods in several hotels and for a week in our sons house in Germany, and have never once had an internet problem, or had to re set the network settings.
The questions I have are, do I need to do something with the existing router ? I have looked on the Edimax website for firmware updates and the latest for this model are from June 2008 and the download seems to be for Windows only, or do I need to think about upgrading the router to a more powerful 802.11n model such as Apples Airport Extreme.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, the problem is not a great one, but a niggle that I would rather sort out as we will soon be buying an iPad and I would like to get it sorted before then.
    Many Thanks.

I'd get a new router. Your existing router appears to have problems, is 4 years old and is no longer supported by the manufacturer. Since you can get a good wireless-G router for around $35 would be the cheapest approach (e.g., Netgear WGR614v10 at Staples).
If money is no object, you could move to a wireless-N router like the Airport Extreme. If you do get a 802.11n wireless router make sure it is one that implements the final version of the 802.11n standard and not a draft version.

  • What do i do if i need to make a new apple account but have gift card money on the one im using now?

i have to make a new apple id because i cant remember the security questions to my old one and cant use the money i have on it. but i dont want that money to go to waste. is there any way to transfer that money to the new account i want to create?

You can't transfer a balance from one account to another account, nor use it to gift content to another account. Have you tried getting the questions on your existing account reset ?
If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you won't get the reset option - you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset.
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 . Or you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

  • ICloud is putting my mom's contacts on my phone since we have the same apple id. Should I make a new apple id just for Icloud?

I want to be able to update all my stuff to icloud, but I don't want my mom's stuff constantly syncing with my phone too. If i make a new account, will that change what account i use in itunes and the apple store?? would I be able to have two accounts? or can you have two different users per icloud?
because what are they supposed to do if a family shares an apple id?

We upgraded my Mom's iPhone 3Gs (New Bootroom) to iOS 5 and connected My dad's Apple iD to my Mom's iPhone. My Mom and Dad's contact lists merged. Then today, when my mom was at work. She started deleting my Dad's business contacts from her phone, thinking that it would just be deleted off her phone. But, they were deleted off of my Mom's iPhone 3gs. My dad's iPad 2, iPhone 4, Intel iMac and his Windows Work computer. My dad is very frustrated. I am wondering if there is any way to do the stuff below, Please help we lost 100 contacts that are very important business contacts.
I am wanting to get the missing contacts back and then seperate the contacts list and then creating my mom another Apple id and add her contacts to her new apple ID and then have so my Dad's Apple iD has his iPad 2, iPhone 4, iMac and his Windows Work Computer and my mom's Apple iD have her iPhone 3Gs (New Bootroom) with both contacts lists seperated.
