Hi,
This is expected behavior. The default listener (listener_nodename) could be starte and stopped with nodeapps.
srvctl listener is mainly for specific listeners that are other than default.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/rac.102/b14197/whatsnew.htm#sthref6
If you create additional Listeners with non-default names, in other words, with names other than the name listener_nodename where nodename is the name of the node on which the Listener resides, then you must start and stop these Listeners with SRVCTL commands.

  • Installation didn't create the listener service on Windows

    Dear Gurus,
I had installed an Oracle 9.2.0.0 in a Windows environment. But when a saw the Windows services in the control panel I saw that the listener service's didn't appear!!!!
Now I can connect to my Database.
Can I create the listener by myself or I will have to re-install?
    Regards

You shouldn't have even needed to "create" the listener. Just going to a command prompt and typing "lsnrctl start" should start the listener, and the service should then be created automatically. This of course assumes that if you have multiple versions of Oracle, the correct one was first in your PATH so that you got the correct version of lsnrctl.

  • Enable/DIsable Services in RAC Database using srvctl

    Hello,
I am using Oracle Database 11g on a two node RAC. For the service management on the RAC I use srvctl and I have problems in understanding why the tool offers redundant information for some services.
To be more exact, let's say I have a two node RAC, one database called DB_NAME and one instance on each node called DB_NAME1 and DB_NAME2.
I create a service called DB_SRV using srvctl like this:
    srvctl add service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -r DB_NAME1 -a DB_NAME2
Then I run srvctl config to see service parameters like this:
    srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
    And I get the output:
    Service name: DB_SRV
    Service is enabled
    Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
    Available instances: DB_NAME2
So I can see that the the service DB_SRV is enabled by default, and I want to disable the service, like this:
    srvctl disable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME1
After than I run srvctl config again:
    srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
    And I get the output:
    Service name: DB_SRV
    Service is enabled
    Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
    Available instances: DB_NAME2
Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
So far,it all makes sense. The service is enabled to all the instances, but disabled for DB_NAME1 so this means the the service is enabled on DB_NAME2. All ok.
But then, I want to enable the service on DB_NAME2 (although it is already enabled there) and I run:
    srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
After than I run srvctl config again:
    srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
    And I get the output:
    Service name: DB_SRV
    Service is enabled
    Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
    Available instances: DB_NAME2
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
    So my real question is:
Why isn't oracle giving me an error when I run
    srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
and instead adds this line (redundant, I would say)
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
    in the srvctl config output?
    Thank you in advance!

So for me it seems redundant because if the service is enabled (this means it is enabled for every instance in the RAC), you shouldn't be able to enable it on one of that instance again.
So in my last output I think that this line:
    Service is enabled
    is equal to this line
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
If I am wrong, can someone point the difference between the two lines based on my scenario?

Local disks could not be used in the case of RAC as the last needs shared.
    1. Identify disks used for ASM:
    asmcmd lsdsk
    2. Disks may be presented through HBA, iSCSI, dNFS.
    3. Disks may be presented with a single path. And i.1 will give necessary information.
    Or multipath may be used.
    4. List disks with:
    ls -l /dev/disk/by-id
    Path like
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 Mar 14 02:25 scsi-1ATA_VBOX_HARDDISK_VB3ee53981-f184882e -> ../../oracleasm/OCRVOTE3
    will indicate shared VBox disk
    ls -l /dev/disk/by-path
    Paths like
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  9 Feb 16 11:43 ip-xx.xx.xx.xx:7260-iscsi-iqn.2010-06.com.purestorage:flasharray.123456qwerty-lun-1 -> ../../sde
    will indicate iSCSI
    iscsiadm -m session -P 1
may give additional information in the case of iSCSI
    multipath -ll
may give additional information in the case of HBA.

I found where the services logs are recorded in the event viewer. Funny thing just happened, I was just about to do another reboot so I could check the logs when I noticed there were window updates in q.
So after running the updates, the os requested to reboot . For the first time, the services started automatically.
These are the updates which fixes the probem:

  • Add listener to 10g RAC manually

    Hi RAC Expert,
Currently thinking to build RAC standby site. I believe that NETCA can be use to configure network services and it will automatically add to OCR.
If I put the tnsnsames.ora and listener.ora manually to $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin and start the listener manually (lsrnctl start)..etc
I only able to see srvctl configure listener ... (query the listener configuration), but there has no srvctl add listener....
How can I register the listener in ocr manually by using srvctl?
    Thanks
    Best Regards,
    Vbeer

    Hi,
I Need help here. Somehow netca cannot add listener to crs. Is there any other way to do it?say crs_register?
When I put listener.ora file that I use to start listener on one node, netca recognizes the listener for the instance and can delete it. However when I ask it to add, it hungs at registering the listener with the name listener ( suppose it should be listener_hostname).
my /crs_stat -t will never show the lsnr resource being registered)
    Thanks

    2) why the listener service dosent get deleted even though we have deleted from the Net Manager ?

Hi, when you delete listener from Net Manager then do not get delete "Oracletnslistener" windows service.Because this is windows service. This will delete(remove) only Oracle software uninstall(deinstall) time. But you can remove this service from windows register(regedit).Try as following.
1.run=>regedit=>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\ there you will see as OracleserviceTnslistener ,then delete this also delete from
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\ and

  • Manually creating the oracle services inside windows services

    Hi All,
After discussion we came up for the following conclusion and would like to have further discussion on the topic.
    - We have node 1 windows 2003 enterprise sp2 available on one of the server which has Oracle 11g R1 having custom database installed on it.
    - All database and Oracle server files are stored on shared storage.
    - It created windows services inside which we will be registered under cluster administrator
    - We will install Oracle 11g R1 on node 2 (Passive node of windows cluster) with the software only option.
    - We will manually create the oracle services on this node with the same name as we have on node 1.
In case the node 1 will be failed, node 2 will fail over and will become active node for the users.
Is there any one involve in such practice? did it work ?
    Thanks,

I am installing 10g client and create an ORCL service using the Net configuration Assistant. I don't see this service when i open ontrol panel/administrative tools/services. Is this normal?
I thought i wld see it and start the service and listener. Some confusion here.... first of all, listener is a server process, which listens for incoming calls, you don't have it on a client.
Secondly, the service you created with Net Configuration Assistant is just an alias you'll use to connect a remote database to, and does not create any Windows service. You can find its specifications within tnsnames.ora file, in ORACLE_HOME\network\admin directory.
    I'd read some documentation

  • Listener Service Blocked

Oracle 10g on Windows Server 2003
One Listener Service with Two instances
I understand you, the reader, may have some experience working with Oracle Servers and I am hoping you may be able to shed some light on my current issue.
I have Oracle 10g Version 10.1.0.2.0 Standard running on Windows Server 2003 SP2. There are multiple database instances; as you know each instance has a SID, its own service “OracleService<SID>”, memory space, files, configurations, etc.
Each database runs though the same listener with an individual listener service.
There are now six databases on the system (mastsch1, indosch1, bathsch1, bathsch2, bathsch3, and bathsch4)
The most recent database, bathsch4, is a clone/copy of bathsch3.
I chose to use the Database Administrator Console to Clone an existing database (bathsch3) to create a new database (bathsch4).
What I ended up with was a single listener service “bathsch4” reporting two instances “bathsch4” READY and “bathsch3” BLOCKED.
I’ve checked lsnrctl services and status to gather this information, validated the PATH, and registry settings, and tested resolution of TNSPING which all report the same issue.
    Issue 1:
I need assistance in understanding how exactly to alter “bathsch3” so it runs again in its own listener service “bathsch3” and is no longer BLOCKED.
Thankfully, all of the other databases (mastsch1, indosch1, bathsch1, bathsch2, and bathsch4) are running correctly.
I walked through many scripts and diagnostics to get were I thought stopping and starting the service would bring me back to completion, but ended up after a system cycle back to the same problem, so I’ve clearly missed something.
In the process of researching this issue, I found that my listener.log had grown exponentially and was at 700 MB already. The majority of this log was the windows service “OracleServicebathsch3” attempting to connect to the database.
I shutdown the database and stopped the service which drastically reduced the rate of growth.
    Issue 2:
I need assistance in understanding how exactly to set up the listener.log to either rollover or truncate after 20 MB.
If you believe you are capable of provide me with any helpful guidance? Please do so, I am happy to answer any question and provide every bit of information you feel would be of assistance.
    Thank you,
    James

    10/16/2009 12:11:27 PM EST
Thank you for your response - I will definitely attempt your suggestion for item 2.
With regards to item 1, it appears that I'm not explaining the listener issue well enough.
On Windows Server 2003 R2 with Oracle 10.1.0.2.0 Standard running if you were to check the listener status, I appear to have only one listener with the correct endpoint.
If you check the listener services you will see that one listener service, with the name of the new database, is listed as having two dependent instances, the original database, bathsch3, and the new database, bathsch4.
The original database, bathsch3, is blocked.
I need guidance on how to uncouple the original database, bathsch3, from the “bathsch4” service and get it back on its own service.
To follow is a run of the listener status in case it helps to “see” what I am saying.

    Prasad,
I don't think those are duplicate entries. I have a feeling that the complete names of the sources (listeners) could be different (since the complete names are now truncated). You may like to get the better version of crs_stat (a script) from ML Note:259301.1, which gives you the output without truncating the resource names.
    >>>>Listener is not running on node: ora-v240-s02 - Why does this show as OFFLINE
I guess CRS looks for a listener with a specific name. Though you have a listener, for some reason it complains about its non-existence. I guess this can be ignored. I have seen this in all installations.
