Hi, I was having what I thought was problems with one of my sons iPod mini that was not been seen by the PC or iTunes. The simple solution was there was not enough charge in the unit. Solution- fully charge unit then connect to PC. This may not help your problem but it maybe another thing to check.

Nope, it either needs to be plugged in or turned on with the power button.
A replacement iPhone 4 is $149, but at least the whole phone is replaced.

  • TS1591 iPad will not appear in Itunes

My iPad 2 will not appear in Itunes. I have looked at other apple support pages and no of them have worked for me. It shows that the iPad is charging when I plug it into the computer but it will not show in Itunes.

I had the same problem -- here is what I did to fix it:
I turned my phone off and turned off iTunes. I then turned my phone on and then connected the phone to the computer. It automatically launched iTunes and showed up under the devices.
    Hope this helps!

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

  • My music will not appear in iTunes

I recently downloaded the newest version of iTunes. Now when I go to open iTunes on my desktop all of my music files have disappeared. When I look on my hard drive, I can see my music files stored in the iTunes folder but for some reason they are not appearing on iTunes. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

  • Ipod will not appear in itunes or on desktop... tried EVERYTHING

My 4th generation (black and white display) ipod will not update ever since i was updating it, and my computer was, for some reason, forced to restart. Now, whenever i plug my ipod into my computer using the firewire port, my ipod flashes the 'Do not disconnect' screen, and the battery sign at the top signals that it is charging. But my desktop computer (iMac G5) will not recongnize that my ipod is connected on either the desktop or in itunes. I have tried the '5 R's', and re-booting my computer and forcing into disk mode. I now have no idea what to do...
    HELP!!

In case you can see your iPod under the disk utility, try to do the following
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
If you cant see your iPod there, then
Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • IPad will not appear in iTunes, nor show "charging" icon

While on a recent road trip, my iPad mysteriously stopped charging when connected to a wall plug. Or so I thought, as the "charging" icon never appeared. However, if left plugged in long enough, the iPad would slowly (very slowly) recharge. The same iPad will no longer appear in iTunes for synching. As I have multiple cables, I don't think my problem is with the cable, which works fine for my iPhone. Suggestions? Ideas?

Im having exactly the same issue with the syncing, but I can plug into the charger in an outlet and the IPAD charges fairly quickly.  If I am plugged into my book pro then the IPAD is not detected at all.
I wiped mine thinking it had corrupted but now I only have the icon of the cable and ITUNES logo similar to when first purchased and starting up.  Even though plugged in it will not detect.  I have 3 cables, all of which work with my iphone 4 when plugged into my book pro.

  • IPhone  will not appear in iTunes on Windows 7 (64) no matter what I do.

Ok, so I recently updated my PC to Windows 7 (64), and set everything up again using Windows Easy Transfer. Originally iTunes installed using the version which the Apple Downloader picked up and was working reasonably okay. However, whilst I was playing around with the PC, I noticed that iTunes was installed in "Program Files (x86)". So i figured it must've installed the 32 bit version of iTunes on the PC instead, so off I went and uninstalled and installed the 64 bit version from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1047
During that installation, I noticed it too installs to the x86 directory so I ignored it. However, this is where the fun started. At first I noticed that as soon as I plugged in my iPhone 4, iTunes would freeze up, effectively going into a "Not Responding" mode. This would rectify however immediately after unplugging the iPhone.
So after a few attempts and getting the same result, I started searching the web for a solution. After which I tried the following: Deleting the USB drivers and attempted re-install. Drivers were deleted successfully, however once clicking on "Check for hardware changes" the Apple Device never again showed up. I then opened iTunes again, plugged in the iPhone again, and now noticed that iTunes no longer froze, however the iPhone did not appear. From this point, here is a list of all the things I have done, from both folowing the support (http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/) and other people's advice:
    - Tried a different USB port.
    - Uninstalled all Apple drivers.
    - Uninstalled all Apple Software, including Apple Mobile Device, Apple
    Automatic Update & Quicktime.
    - Searched the registry and removed all references for iTunes.
    - Deleted all iTunes folders from the computer.
    - Deleted AppData temporary folder from my profile.
    - Turned off and restarted the iPhone.
    - Checked for software conflicts.
    - Restarted the computer after each change.
    - Reinstalled Apple Automatic Update from a fresh download.
    - Reinstalled iTunes using the Automatic Update application.
From here I started iTunes again and plugged in my iPhone. This time however I got a message saying something along the lines of "cannot connect iPhone, required software is not installed, this is a 32bit version of iTunes, please uninstall and reinstall the 64bit version of iTunes (this is a little confusing as I learnt earlier that you cannot install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine as you get an error during installation).
So, again. I uninstalled all of iTunes and associated software, downloaded the 64bit version of iTunes again - thinking the original version of the EXE was corrupted somehow during the download. After reinstalling, I plugged in my iPhone. It showed that the device drivers were installing, however at some point they failed. I then went back into device manager and uninstalled the USB driver and clicked on "check for hardware changes". This time the iPhone was found and appeared to install the drivers successfully when I plugged the iPhone back in... but low and behold, the iPhone was still not showing up in iTunes.
I have spent a good few hours on this, and am getting pretty frustrated. Does anyone on here have an ACTUAL fix for this problem?
The only thing I haven't done is do a factory reset of my iPhone, which I'nm hesitant to do, as I haven't had a chance to "export my purchases" off the handset to the PC as yet.
    Cheers,
    Steve
PS: Just out of interest, the iPhone still connects perfectly fine on my work (XP) machine.

I'm an applications developer and also run a part-time videography business. As such, I require more than 3.12GB of RAM. That is the physical limitation of a 32bit system. Pointless to stay on 32bit if you plan on having more than that much RAM.
I'm also not about to pay someone to fix my PC when I can do it myself. I was originally hoping for someone who had experienced the problem before to point me in the right direction so I didn't have to spend so much time trying to figure out what the issue was for myself.
Basically, in the end the problem was caused because right at the point in time when I chose to uninstall, and reinstall; Apple released a new version of iTunes. This version in turn had a requirement of iOS 4.2 to sync with the iPhone. This is a pretty embarrassing for Apple that they would release software reliant on other software before said software was released.
Had I realised I was downloading a newer version at the initial point of installation, this wouldn't have been an issue. I could've easily have rolled back iTunes to the previous version and gotten on with my life.
Another issue is that iTunes is not actually a 64 bit application. It masquerades as one to allow installation on the 64 bit platform.

  • Iphone will not appear in itunes at all

Recently, I partook in a method to finally get my iPhone 6 to appear in Windows Explorer so that I could import my photos on it to my laptop. When I did that, I set it to automatically open Windows to my phone's folder. But now, it won't appear in itunes anymore! I've restarted both my laptop and my iPhone several times, and uninstalled my iPhone from my laptop's Driver Manager and reinstalled it several times. I don't know what else to do! Can someone help please?

Nope, I tried several of those and they didn't work. I think the key behind my issue has to do with how my iphone now appears when listed as a driver. Instead of appearing where it should in the screenshots in the article you linked, it looks like this:
That does not look like how it appears in the article at all. I'm fairly certain I did something--heaven knows what--and it now appears like that. Worse yet, I can't seem to reverse what I did...I'm stuck! I don't know what to do!

  • IPhone will not appear in iTunes

I'm at my wit's end here.
Windows 7 Professional - Started during the RC as well.
Fresh install, fresh itunes install. Phone syncs fine the first time, eject unplug, wait a few seconds plug it in, nothing. Itunes freezes for a few minutes then nothing changes.
Tried playing with startup services and other services no help, can not restore iphone because iTunes wont connect of course.
Went from 9.01 to 9.02 no help either.
Deleted all podcasts, even tried with no music in iTunes a "Fresh Install" did not change a thing and nada will not talk to my iPhone.
Tried new iPhone cables, old iPod cables the works.
Tried new USB Ports, with everything but a generic keyboard and mouse and no keyboard and mouse.
    Any suggestions folks?

Also this has been going on since iTunes 9. I've had nothing but problems with it. In both installs it would not update my itunes library it would hang half way through even leaving it running for over an hour.
So not only am I without a way to sync my phone, my playlists are all gone, all my ratings etc. I've been a Mac and PC user for years and I'm really fed up with iTunes. Over 90% of iPhone owners use it on Windows, so you would think it would work better. It's not like I have a choice to use a second program to manage the music.
    Oh iPods work fine.

  • Help! iPad will not appear in iTunes

Need real advice, went through the help tutorial 10 times (disconnect all USB, try different USB, try restarting etc.) and no luck. Just got iPad but I had an older Mac running Tiger 10.4, so I upgraded to snow Leopard (10.6.4) and also downloaded most recent version of iTunes (9.2) - it simply wont recognize iPad, which is fully charged.
If I run system profiler it sees the iPad as a USB device, but iTunes refuses to see it. Also shows up in finder devices as "iDisk"
Whne I plug it in, it just shows the cord to iTunes graphic, if I hold down the sleep and start for 10 seconds I get the Apple logo, then it goes to a screen to slide the red bar to power off, and there is a small icon of a lock on top - do I need to somehow unlock this with software or hardware?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can reset the iPad to its factory state by putting it into "recovery mode". I had to do this one time when iTunes would not recognize the iPad and it didn't seem to be charging. This will erase everything on the iPad, but after restoring from within iTunes everything should be synched back over.
This article says how. Basically, turn off the iPad and then hold down the home button while plugging the USB cord into your computer. Keep holding it down until you see the original screen telling you to use iTunes to set up the iPad.
