Will not charge or connect to PC

I've had my 4th gen 40 gig ipod for about 18 months now. I went to charge it today and it starts with the apple icon, then it goes to the exlamation mark next to the folder. Then it resets and tries again.
I've tried it in the wall, no luck. I've tried it via USB, it does the same but also proceeds to the 'Do not disconnect' screen briefly before resetting. There is no indication of charging.
I tried resetting it. Didn't change anything.
Tried to go into disk mode, didn't do anything.
Tried the ipod updator, but it didn't work.
It does click a bit when loading up. But I believe it's done this before and it worked.
I don't mind wiping it clean, i just need to get some charge in it and get it working!
Please help!
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried restoring it? (One of the Five R's) Usually restoring it will correct any problem. If that doesn't work, then take it to the nearest apple store.

My iPod Shuffle will not charge or connect to the computer. I updated iTunes and bought a new charger. Any ideas? Thanks

My question was, when you connect the shuffle to USB, does the light come ON?  From the way you answered, I'm not sure if you are answering that question, or saying that the light does not come ON when you move the power switch on the shuffle to the ON position.
Also, what happens when you connect the shuffle to your computer by itself, with nothing else connected to USB?
If you get no response (no light) from the shuffle when you connect it to USB by itself, trying both the original USB cable and a new one that is compatible with the 4th gen shuffle, try connecting something else to the USB port to confirm it is working properly.  It would be best to test the USB port with something similar, such as a USB flash drive or external drive.  If you can confirm the USB port works properly, it is likely that the cause for this problem is on the shuffle, such as a faulty headphones jack or bad logic board.
If the shuffle is less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My ipod touch will not charge or connect via usb

When i plug in my ipod touch, it only recognizes that it is plugged in for a few seconds at a time. Therefore, it will not charge, and this occurs no matter what cable i use with it, whether i plug it into my computer, or into the wall with an adapter. I also cannot use itunes with it because of this. I have already looked through the forums for other people having the same problem, but most of them just got useless answers such as checking the troubleshooting guide. I would prefer a "REAL" answer to this. To be completely honest, all that the troubleshooting guide tells you is how to do an idiot-check on yourself. I have only had the ipod for a few months, two at the most, so a depleted number of recharges in the battery is highly unlikely, especially since the computer also will not recognize it. An error message comes up saying that it does not recognize the device. Thanks for any help!

I have checked for problems with the connections, but from what i can see with the naked eye, nothing appears abnormal. It is very strange, and very sudden. It just stopped in the middle of a charge. The apple store is my next step. I just wanted to see if anyone on here had some extremely eye-opening solution or check. thanks though!
I'm also within warranty, so it's not a huge problem.

  • My ipod will not charge or connect to Itunes.

So I have tried everything, plugging into 3 different chargers, into the wall and pc. Two different USB ports on the pc. And yet nothing. I have done all the hold down the top and home button for 10 seconds then also a minute and yet still nothing. It was was working fine charging and every thing and I unplugged it walked out of my room for about 5-10 mins go to plug it back up and nothing. I have been searching for over a hour looking for solution's. What is really crazy about it it that if I turn it off then plug into my pc the apple logo will pop up and it will come on and it seems to have charged some. But it still will not charge while on or be recognized by my pc or Itunes. I know it can't be any of the prongs on the charger port bent because it would not charge while off. Someone please help!! Thanks

  • IPod will not charge or connect to itunes

Hello, My name is Perla and I am a proud customer of Apple. I bought my iPod Touch 4G 8G on March 17, 2011. I had no problems over the course of almost a year. Last week, my iPod would not charge or connect to iTunes. I took it to the Apple Store and they exchanged mine for another. Just a couple of days ago, my new iPod had been experiencing the same problem. As of now, it would not charge to my computer or any outlet for that matter or connect to iTunes. I want to take it to the Apple Store and get it checked out but I'm afraid they won't exchange it again, they'll probably charge me and I don't have the money. Any ideas or suggestions?

I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.  You warranty is istll in effect.  The warranty for a replacement iPod is 90 days or the remainder of the original warranty, which  ever is greater.

  • IPhone 4S will not charge or connect to iTunes

For the last week or so, my iPhone has been dying very quickly, I end up having to charge it 4 to 5 times a day, and when it does charger, it always overheats. Suddenly, my iPhone has stopped charging and it will not connect to iTunes. I have tried resetting it, using other chargers, blowing out the charging port and updating iTunes. Every now and then, I will try to turn my phone on and it will be at 6% and then it will turn off 5 seconds later. Other times, I will try to plug my iPhone into the wall or computer and it will show the charger with lightning bolt screen and it is plugged in. I have no clue what is happening, or how to fix it. PLEASE HELP!

I had a diagnosis done, and they said that it was not because of the battery, but they said it should be replaced.

  • My iphone 4 will not charge or connect to itunes.

I got this from a friend, she had thrown the iphone against a wall and the back glass plate is broken. But it worked fine, really well. A month later it started having battery issues. Now it wont charge. Actually, i have no idea whats really wrong with it. It will take days to charge at a time and will have a full battery when it turns on, but if i unplug it from the usb it wont stay on. Even though it says its charged 100%. Now it wont turn on at all. It just has the red battery chargeing thing. Ive tried pressing the home/sleep buttons. And it wont connect to itunes. Please help me. (This is an iphone 4 16 gb).

It's entirely possible when your friend threw the phone against the wall (breaking the back glass plate) that it damaged the internal battery of the iPhone.
It is likely you will need to take your phone in to be serviced.
Take a look at the troubleshooting steps in the following article:
    TS2802 iPhone: Hardware Troubleshooting
    Specifcally the following:
Will not turn on, or will not turn on unless connected to power
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if the Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) in the headset jack or dock connector is activated or there are signs of corrosion or debris. Learn more about LCIs.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
If something other than the Home screen or Low Battery screen appears on the display, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, try resetting it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter. To reset, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or the battery symbol appears.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Restore the iPhone. Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • My iPhone 4 will not charge when connected to a Toshiba S-75 computer.

I have an iPhone 4 that charged on a USB connection to a HP computer. I recently purchased a Toshiba S75-A7221 laptop, which has the "sleep and charge" feature. At first, the phone would charge, then it started to beep, so did the laptop. One beep alternates with the other. I contacted Toshiba. They indicate that for $49 they can reset the computer, and that will fix the problem. I am not so sure, as the Toshiba documentation indicates that for some loads, the sleep and charge feature will not work. Should I continue to pursue the Toshiba group or just charge the iphone with the small cube charger and forget about connecting it or updating it through this computer? A fix is desired, but if there is none, just a reminder that maybe Toshiba laptop computers do not have enough output current to charge an iPhone.

What you describe is not an Apple or iPhone issue.
Talk to Toshiba.  If you chose to pursue the issue with them, that is up to you.  No one here can tell you what the correct solution is.
Keep in mind, all iPhones ship will a wall plug to permit the device being charged from a wall outlet.

  • IPhone will not charge or connect when plugged into my Mac

The past few weeks I have had a major issue with my iPhone. When I plug it into my Macbook via the USB port it will neither connect to my iTunes or connect. However, when I put it into a iPod speaker system that I have, it charges. I thought maybe it was a bad wire so I got out my spare one and still no luck. My iPod will connect and charge on my Macbook when it is plugged in with the same chords. The speaker system has a port for the USB connector to plug into and I tried that. Once again, the iPod will connect to my Mac, but my iPhone will not. I don't know what to do so that I can sync my iPhone to my Macbook. Can anyone help?

  • My ipod touch 5th gen will not charge when connected to pc. works when plugged into wall

I just got my 5th gen ipod today, and when i plug it into my pc (and my roommate's) they make the sound as if something is connected, but my ipod does not charge. When I plug it into my wall charger, it works fine. I've tried multiple cables, and multiple PCs, but it makes no difference. The weirdest thing though, is when I restart my computer, when it is about to close windows, it starts charging for a few seconds, then turns back off. This is so confusing. Any ideas?

Sounds like the computer's USB ports do not provide enough current to charge the iPod when the screen is on. I would connect a partially discharged iPod to the computer for a couple of hours and see it it is charged.

  • IPhone will not charge, or connect to iTunes

ive tried many chargers, & many different sorces (computer, dock, car charger, wall charger) nothing works. there is no possible way for me to charge my phone. even when i try to restore it , thats not possible because my phone wont show up. itunes it up to date so thats not the problem. ive deleted & reinstalled itune also and still not charging.  plz help.

hmmm... did you try updating the firmware or try jailbreaking?
try plugging and unplugging your connection 10-12 times.
if not try a hard reset and leave the iPhone charging for about 12 hours.

  • IPhone 4 will not charge when connected to power

I have tried the home/ power trick and at first it went to the apple logo then would power up and then cycle off and then repeat infinitely. Now the phone is so low on power that it only shows either the lightening bolt while connected or the cord + lightening bolt when not connected to power. It is still not charging though. I left plugged in overnight and still no change.Help please

If not a problem with the power adaptor or cable being used, more than likely the iPhone has a hardware problem with the battery or something else. Make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • IPod shuffle will not charge when connected to other computers.

A girl I work with had me load her shuffle on my computer. I set it up and synced with my itunes and everything worked well. Then the battery ran out and she tried to connect it to a computer at work and it said that it was already synced with an itunes library. She left it plugged for a few hours anyway and when she unplugged it there was no charge in it. Both computers are iMacs and it was plugged into a usb on the back of the computer. Thanks dudes.

In Settings in iTunes (while shuffle is plugged in) UNcheck "Open iTunes when this iPod is attached) and click apply... This will allow charging w/o iTunes involvement.
