Will not open PDF files and has been updated

PDF files do not open after updates in ipad, android mobile or in windows on asus laptop. A great program now unusable.. How to fix this..?  Is this "free" program no longer available.?

Ok, you haven't told us where the file is from. I'm guessing it's some kind of form (there are other possibilities).
Some forms are of a special type which can only be opened by very limited software: Adobe Reader on Mac or Windows in fact. They have this built-in message when the current software doesn't know what to do, but unfortunately it's a very confusing message.
So, that accounts for the problem on tablets. Why the problem on Windows? My guess is that you are trying to open in something other than Adobe Reader, including perhaps Chrome, or FireFox, or Microsoft Reader in Windows 8. Save the file to your desktop and open it in Adobe Reader (current version) and you should at last be able to see the elusive file. I hope it was worth the trouble!

  • Safari will not open PDF files and links

I know this has been posted before, but I have tried every suggestion including downloading and reinstalling Safari and Adobe Reader.. When I click on link to pdf file/document in Safari I get a new page but it opens as blank and black. This issue does not exist with Firefox. I have the latest versions of Safari and Reader. I mostly use safari and would appreciate any assistance with this issue.

    HI,
Right or control click a PDF file, then click: Get Info
    In the Get Info window click the pop up menu next to: Open with;
If Adobe Reader is not available from the list click Other. Navigate to your Applications folder and select Adobe Acrobat Reader, then click: Change All.
    Relaunch Safari.
Also, from the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the General tab.
Make sure: Open "safe" files after downloading is ticked.

I need to make a pdf document, already made in photoshop, 'page turn' and then add it to my website as an e-brochure. I know I can do this in indesign but indesign will not open pdf files for some inexplicable reason. Any ideas how I can do it without completely starting again?

    Hello waitingone,
please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
    1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
    2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
    3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
    4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
    5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
    6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
    7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.
    Good luck!

Make sure you have updated Acrobat X to the latest version 10.1.3.  They updated the PDF plug-in in 10.1.1:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_ 10.1.1.pdf#page=4

  • Safari will not open pdf files.

Safari will not open pdf files, instead I get a blank grey screen. How can I get a viewable and downloadable screen/file? Tried Alt/Option to view and it doesn't work either. Firefox and Chrome will not work either.

For Mac check the Safari preferences.
General to set the options for opening links from applications.
Tabs to set the other options.
Hold down the command key to open any link in a new tab.
Sorry, gave up windows several years ago.

Did you try using Preview. If you control click on the PDF on your desktop you can use the "open with" option.

  • Firefox will not open pdf files & changes the options/applications settings?

At first, with default settings, Firefox would not open pdf files & came up only with a blank screen & no file reference. Going to options/applications & changing the default to a new installation of Adobe Reader still brought up a blank screen but this time with the file ref. Oddly though, attempting to open any pdf file would then change the setting under applications back to Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox). But this doesn't work. So what do I need to do to get Firefox to open pdf files correctly using Adobe Reader?

  • What can I do to rectify the situation in which Firefox will not open pdf files in the browser, even though I have already used all the help suggestions to no avail?

I have tried everything Mozilla has suggested. Still when I click on a pdf, I get the message that the browser cannot open a pdf. I have gone through the help protocol, and it does not work.
I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it, and still not able to open pdf files within the browser.
What else do I do, except go to IE or Chrome and just leave Firefox completely???

A possible cause is the presence of a PDF plugin from an older Adobe Reader plugin in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

  • Firefox will not open PDF files from my financial website, but IE will.

When I try to open reports in Fidelity, UBS, etc, the file downloads, but removes the extension so it won't open and I get the message "Unknown file type". I tried the same procedure in IE, and the files open without problem. I do not want to use IE. How do I get the files to open. This is a recent (~5 days) problem.
    Thanks,

  • I can not open a file that has been converted from a PDF to a .doc.  I have a one year subscription to PDF Pack.

I click on the tool to convert my pdf file to a .doc file.  When the program writes it is finished and I can down load the document, I do so.  Even though the converted file is listed as a .doc or docx, neither Microsoft Word nor OpenOffice can open it.  What is going wrong?
I also click to be able to edit my pdf document, but no commands to edit it come up.  Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi ktewksbu,
I don't think you're doing anything wrong. What is the file size of the converted document (and the filename extension)? Do you have the same issue with any file that you try to convert? Or is the problem specific to one file?
As for editing a PDF file, that requires Acrobat. (Adobe Reader lets you comment on a PDF, but  not alter its content).
    Best,
    Sara
