Will Office 2004 run on Leopard 10.5

Thanks for the insight.
Matt

Jackderoach,
Yes it runs on Leopard, but if you have an Intel mac it runs in rosetta. Its an emulation of the PPC Mac. I personally didn't notice any slow down except when it starts. But it was minimal and wants it gets going all is good.

  • Will Office 2004 work with Leopard?

I'm about to install Leopard on my MacBook. Will Office 2004 continue to work, or will I need to re-install/upgrade/buy new software? Thanks

Word, Excel, and Powerpoint have no trouble launching. Some have had trouble printing though. There is a new free update from Microsoft which may fix that issue, but I haven't yet seen any reports.
I would backup your work before installing Leopard in any case, just in case you may have underlying issue that wasn't resolved as my FAQ* explains:

  • Office 2004 crashing with Leopard

I installed Microsoft Office 2004 on my Leopard HD and it keeps crashing. Anyone else having this trouble?

I've been having some problems as well... the main issue was w/ Office 2004 Word, the thesaurus tool wasn't working or showing. I contacted Microsoft through email and this is what they said:
+If it is the new Leopard there is a known conflict because the Leopard has its own Spelling and Grammar tools now and they may be conflicting with Microsoft Office. There is a way to check this out. Create a new test Mac and to do that follow the steps below.+
    +1) Close all open programs.+
    +2) Click on the Apple.+
    +3) Select System Preferences.+
    +4) Select Accounts.+
+5) Click on the Plus sign.+
+5) For the name, short name, password and verify password please use the word "test".+
+6) Please ensure this user can administer the computer.+
+7) Close out of the accounts window.+
+8) Log out of your user and log into the new user.+
+9) Try to open Word then try the Thesaurus.+
I did what they said and the problem seemed like it was fixed but a day later the same thing happened all over again. Hopefully it'll help fix some of your problems... Good Luck!

  • Will my programs run under Leopard?

I have a G5 iMac currently running Tiger and I am thinking of upgrading to Leopard. I am wondering if I will need to upgrade some of my programs as well. They are Quicken 2004, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, Adobe elements 2, Fetch 4.0.3, Microsoft Office 2004, Superduper 2.5.
    Thanks
    Jerry

Your SuperDuper and Office are good, I run Quicken '05 however.

  • Office 2004 crashes in Leopard when using File print option.

Office 2004 apps all crash when I try to print using File>print but they will print if I just use the printer icon. Any ideas?? I have updated Office to 11.3.9 and uninstalled and reinstalled the printer. BTW, the printer is an HP Laserjet All-in-one model 3330. Everything else I've tried seems to print ok -- Safari, Adobe, Pages.
I would like to upgrade three other machines but I'm waiting until I get this print problem resolved.
    Thanks.

Well I feel sort of stupid, I was using the HP driver. Switching to either of the drivers supplied with Leopard fixed this problem. Thanks.

  • Will Office 2004 work with Mac OS 10.4.11?

I'm currently running Office 2004 with Mac OS 10.4.2 but will soon be upgrading to Mac OS 10.4.11. I'm wondering if the Office currently installed on my computer will work with OS 10.4.11.
(All the component apps of Office are marked as Version 11.2, except Entourage, which is marked as Version 11.2.1.)
I'd appreciate any thoughts. THANK YOU.
    -Bob

Shouldn't be any problem. I used Office 2004 with 10.4.11 for quite a while until I bought Office 2008.
You might want to update your Office apps, though, with the latest security updates and bug fixes. My Office 2004 apps are all 11.3.something versions.

  • Microsoft Office 2004 Crashing with Leopard on Power Mac G5

I'm running Leopard 10.5.1 on a Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) Dual 2.3 GHz. I have Microsoft Office 2004 installed and it keeps crashing. And I have installed all of the available updates for Leopard and Office 2004. Is anyone else having this problem? Office 2004 is now essentially unusable because it often crashes during save or exit.

    We have a similar problem.
10.5.2 Server, 10.5.2 Client, MS Office 2004 (All latest patches)
Its an intermittent problem that freezes MS Office when navigating through the "Save" Finder. It only appears to occur when trying to navigate through server folders and only affects MS office, all other apps are fine.

  • My Office 2004 docs from leopard when sent to PC are the size of postage stamps

I recently upgraded to Leopard on my iMac. I have Office 2004. No problems previously.
Now when I send my 2004 Word docs to a PC when they are opened they are the size of postage stamps - help!

You should probably post your question in Microsft's own forums for their Mac version of Office as it's their software you're having issues with and Apple Communites only provide support for Apple products:  http://www.officeformac.com/productforums

  • Will OFFICE 2004  work?

I don't want to upgrade if not.

I found the problem with my installation.. First, I deleted office and reinstalled it, which wasn't necessary.. The problem was duplicate and/or corrupted fonts.. I'm somewhat of a 'font ho'.. I have about 700 installed, and some were duplicates.. I opened Font Book and chose all the fonts and used the Resolve Duplicates menu item, which shut off all duplicate fonts. This alone allowed all the Office 2004 programs to successfully launch over and over.. I went one step further and also had Font Book Validate the fonts.. I found a few corrupt ones and deleted them..
So, now Office 2004 works fine for me..

  • Compatibility issues between Office 2004 and Snow Leopard?

    Hi,
Received and installed Snow Leopard today and I seem to be having issue after issue.
I've managed to sort a few issues but Excel 2004 keeps crashing my mac. When I say crashing, the screen turns blue and reverts back to the log in screen without warning.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

Try Neo Office, if you can't follow the directions already supplied:

  • Firefox and Camino will no longer run in Leopard

I updated my 15" mpb to Leopard last week and everything went well. Then yesterday suddenly firefox would immediately crash and lock up the system completely. I reinstalled firefox, no good. I reinstalled Leopard, no change. I erased the drive and did a clean install and it ran once then crashed. Now it will bounce a couple of times then crash. I tried camino with the same results. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes obviously. I didn't mean to come over in any sense rudely
I indicated that camino failed at the same point with "with the same results"
I was just trying to clarify that, since the Firefox dump you provided indicated problems on loading. This could have been some corruption on your system disk caused by software or hardware. As it turns out you discovered it was hardware.
In any event it was not Firefox or Camino or even Leopard that caused the issue. It was a failing hard drive. I replaced the drive and all is right with the world again.
Good! I hope you didn't lose any important information.

  • Will my pc run snow leopard

unable to install Snow Leopard, Why?  Have disk..

Highest any PPC Mac, (G3, G4, G5), can go is Leopard 10.5.8.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.

I was given advice to re-install these programs, but that ended up deleting iPhoto, which is another issue I am now dealing with. I tried re-installing iLife09 from the receipt file but it told me that I must have Mac OS 10.5.5 or higher, I have 10.6:
This is really bugging me, not sure what to do. Everything was working fine up until the Snow Leopard install. I also do not have the entire computer backed up anywhere, just my music and important documents so using Time Machine isn't an option unfortunately.
    Please help!

IMO, you have only one realistic option if you want to try to fix things as they stand (ignoring iPhoto) (i.e., without doing and erase and install and having an original iLife install DVD). Try a repair install of Sno by installing Sno over Sno as in an upgrade install. Such an install, while usually very safe, still is an install so be appropriated backed up if you proceed. You will need to reinstall the 10.6.2 combo updater.
If this approach does not work, then I think that you have lost the iLife apps unless you have a related original install DVD. If you do, then you can do an erase and install of Sno and reinstall the iLife apps.
Another possibility is to do an archive and install. Generally speaking, such an install is not very likely to yield an acceptable installation. Under your circumstances, I would say their is only a tiny probability that you would end up with a decent install.

  • Will Office 2004 work if I install Lion?

I heard there are problems with older versions of MS Office.

if you are going to have to upgrade your version of MS Office, and if you are going to go to Mac OS X Lion then you will, then I would recommend you go to MS Office 2011.
There is some debate about whether you can "install" MS Office 2008 as the installer may have been PPC based.
Also, MS has already stated that they plan to release free updates for MS Office 2011, to make it compliant to the new features that have been introduced with Mac OS X Lion.  Features like application resume, auto-save w/versioning, and full screen applications.
You might also find the cost of the Home and Student version of MS Office 2011 to be very reasonable.  The only reason to get the business version is for Outlook, and only if you actually need Outlook.
