Will office 2008 work on a power mac G5?

Hello I have an older Power mac G5 , was wondering will Office 2008 on it ? ( I have a co worker that has an unused copy for $10)

It should. I think Office 2008 was the last version for the PowerPC architecture.

  • Will mail still work on my power mac G5 after icloud?

I have an intel macbook pro that I suppose I need to upgrade so I can use icloud.  But will mail still work on my Power Mac G5 that can not be upgraded past Leopard?

You should be able to enter the email server settings manually:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html
This page assumes Snow Leopard: probably Leopard, where Mail is similar, should work but I can't confirm it. The key item is the ability to use SSL, which MobileMe doesn't.

  • Will  Office 2008 work with OSX Mavericks?

Should like to install Mavericks but want to be sure that my Office 2008 will work.

It's supported in Mavericks and will work unless something goes wrong during or after the upgrade.

  • I have an older Power Mac G5 Quad, and my video card just went out. I am trying to find a video card that will work for my Power Mac. I have duel screens but I can't seem to find the appropriate video card

I have an older Power Mac G5 Quad, and my video card just went out. I am trying to find a video card that will work for my Power Mac. I have duel screens but I can't seem to find the appropriate video card. The serial number on my computer is: RM620603R6W. Apple won't help me because the computer is older than suggested. Please give me the exact video card that will work best for my computer.

Hi Mike, make sure the card has Mac ROM, or is a PC card with Mac ROMs flashed to it...
G5 PCIe options are listed here:

  • What monitors will work with the Power Mac G5?

If I got a new Power Mac, would I need to get a new monitor (Apple Display), too? I have a Dell 17" LCD monitor (VGA). Would this work with the Power Mac?
HP P4 1.8GHz   Windows XP Pro

Yes. You'll need to use the included DVI to VGA adapter to connect the monitor.

  • Having problems getting Comcast internet to work with my power Mac running 10.5.8  Help needed

Just got Comcast Cable and everything works: phone, WiFi, and TV, BUT ethernet won;t work with my power mac tower running 10.5.8 . Hooked modem to laptop running Microsoft and no problem, but it won't work with my Mac.  Any solutions out there?

Hi, see if this changes anything...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

  • Will Office 2004 work with Mac OS 10.4.11?

I'm currently running Office 2004 with Mac OS 10.4.2 but will soon be upgrading to Mac OS 10.4.11. I'm wondering if the Office currently installed on my computer will work with OS 10.4.11.
(All the component apps of Office are marked as Version 11.2, except Entourage, which is marked as Version 11.2.1.)
I'd appreciate any thoughts. THANK YOU.
    -Bob

Shouldn't be any problem. I used Office 2004 with 10.4.11 for quite a while until I bought Office 2008.
You might want to update your Office apps, though, with the latest security updates and bug fixes. My Office 2004 apps are all 11.3.something versions.

  • When i upgrade to Lion will my office 2008 work?

I want to upgrade my Mac to Lion and Apple support is telling me that my MS Office 2008 may not work and/or I need a patch from Microsoft.  I then talk to Microsoft and they say there is not an issue with MS Office 2008 when upgrading to Lion.  Who do I believe?  Will all my data files and entourage data remain intact when I upgrade to Lion?

Office maintains a central datafile in your /Home/Documents/ folder. Each new version of Office simply imports that file. So all your Office data such as mail should remain intact after you upgrade. Here's how to make a bootable backup:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the backup volume. Source means the internal startup volume.

  • Will MS Office 2008 work with Lion?

I purchased Lion but cancelled the download when I read that people were having trouble running MS office programs on the operating system. Does anyone know how well MS office 2008 applications run, if at all, on Lion? Thanks!

I have two friends who say for sure 2011 works.
2008 apparently is being told not supported.
did you do a clean install or just an upgrade on the os?
when using 3rd party apps it is important to back up all your work, and do a clean install of the os, wiping everything, then reinstalling the apps.
there is a trick to doing a clean install. You can find the instructions in this thread.  WHY apple has made it literally IMPOSSIBLE for average mac users to easily choose the option of a clean install with Lion is a mystery to me.  With Lion Apple remotely has control of your operating system. They can change and update anything on it that they see fit without your knowing they even did.

  • What apple Cinema display will work with a Power Mac G4 ?

In order to try and free up some workspace I'm thinking of getting rid of my 19" Formac CRT VDU and getting a flat panel display as there are several on eBay at the moment.
I have a Power Mac G4, model no. M5183 and according to some info I found on Apple's site about identifying your Mac I believe this version is known as 'Power Mac G4 Digital Audio' (the headphone and speaker sockets are aligned vertically on the top left corner of the back panel).
So basically, can I hook any of the cinema displays up to it and expect it to work (I appreciate I'll probably need a VGA / DVI converter) or is it not as simple as that ?
Many thanks for any assistance you can give ?

Do you need something that is good or just something to display basic video? Do you want new or used? The original Rage 128 cards that shipped in the AGP G4's can usually be found on ebay for around $5-10 in abundance. They are pretty much bottom of the line as of today's standards, but provide a VGA connection and display decent video. There are some different RAGE models, but the original model is 2x AGP and has 16 MB of RAM.
You may be intersted in this auction on ebay:

    5 cards for $20.

  • I have 10.4.10 tiger macbook software but will it work on my power mac G5 A1047?

I have a powermac G5 A1047 2.3ghz 1.5g ram and need to reinstall software...I do not have an o.s installed.  I have o.s. X 10.4.10 tiger software installation disks for a macbook pro...will that not work?

You need to contact Apple in order to get OS X 10.4 Tiger or OS X 10.5 Leopard from Apple assuming they still have copies.
Call Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775.
These discs will be replacement OS install discs.
You will need to give the rep your Mac model and serial number and you'll, also, need a credit card as there is a nominal fee of around $18 for processing and shipping of the disc/s.

  • What Applications work on a Power Mac?

Hi there, I recently tryed installing Final Cut Stuido and Vmware Fusion 4.0 on to my Power Mac and it saids it wont install them does this need to be used on a Intel Based Mac pro? Every App. i tried to install it wouldn't let me. Thx

There are a few things that still work on a PPC:
The last version of MicroSoft Office that ran natively on a PPC Mac was Office 2008. Discontinued by MS after v2011 came out but still available here: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Microsoft/GZA00006/
    TurboTax still has PPC code.
If you look in their archive pages, NeoOffice, OpenOffice and LibreOffice--all excellent and free productivity suites--may still have PPC versions
For a currently maintained browser alternative to Safari, Camino runs on PPC Macs with at least OS 10.4.11
