Will OSX Lion still support FCP Studio?

With the disaster that FCP X is turning out to be, is there any indication as to whether or not any versions of FCP Studio will still work with OS X Lion?  I have a sneaking suspicion that it will not, considering the approach Apple has taken with the FCP X release, but I haven't heard anything definitive yet.  I'm hoping Apple will come out with some kind of statement regarding FCP X soon, because the way this release has been handled is absolutely bizzare.  If there is no intention of continuing to support the professional community, just say so, and everyone can move on to something else.

It was an upgrade. Lion installs itself through an installer app (not rebooting from a disc), and the only apparent option is to do an upgrade from Snow Leopard.
(Coming from the Linux world, and Windows before that, I used to write off OS upgrades - they almost always produced terrible results. Clean installs were the way to go. But I've been amazed at how well things seem to run after upgrades from Leopard to Snow Leopard and now Snow Leopard to Lion.)
That isn't to say there many not be an option to do a clean install of Lion...if there is, I'll do that when it goes public. But things have run fine having installed it as an upgrade.
That being said, sometimes FCP X is laggier than I would expect on my 2011 13" MBP with a 2.7GHz Core i7...maybe because the graphics are integrated...but I'm hoping it runs better once Lion becomes public and FCPX is optimized for it.

  • Will osx lion support imovie 06

If I buy a new imac with osx lion will I be able to move imovie 06 from my 2007 intel imac running Tiger onto the new machine?

Just for reference this is a thread discussing the same topic.
    iMovie HD and Lion?
What they point out is if you bought 'plug-ins' that run under HD 6, it's highly likely they are PowerPC based and will not run under Lion. The plug-ins are the problem some folks are seeing, especially ones they paid for originally to add functions to HD 6.

  • Will osx lion support imovie hd6

I already have imovie hd 6 installed on my computer. Will my imovie hd 6 be affected or erased when I upgrade to osx lion?

iMovie 06 and iDVD 11 work fine with Lion.   However, be sure you back up everything on a separate hard drive just in case.
I used iMovie 06 several times with Lion with no difficulty.  However, I have since switched back to Snow Leopard for reasons unrelated to iMovie 06.

  • Will there be upgrade to FCP Studio X

I'm interested in upgrading my Final Cut Pro, but have always upgraded from Studio. I don't see this listed anywhere. Do I just need to wait or how does this work now that we have to purchase from the app store?
    thanks,
    Dave

    It is unfair !
We have been paying so many euro to upgrade from FCP to FCP studio
and the impossibility to read FCS project into FCP X is a non sence

  • Will OSX 10.8 support splitting the HD in order to also run 10.6.8?

I am running an iMac and have just upgraded to OSX 10.8 from 10.6.8. Now I have notices saying some programs are unsupported. I want to partition the hard drive so that I can run the older apps in 10.6.8. Is this possible?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. You just have to use Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) to create a second partition formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html
After doing that, insert the Snow Leopard DVD, hold the C key while your Mac is starting and point the installer to install Snow Leopard onto the second partition. After installing it, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version. If you need to run PowerPC applications, you can select Rosetta as an optional install.
Doing this, your Mac will start up by default in Snow Leopard. If you want to start in Mountain Lion by default, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and select the Mountain Lion partition.
You can also install Snow Leopard Server onto a virtual machine by purchasing it by phone, but it's not recommended if you need the best performance. Also, you will have to spend more money and it will slow down Mountain Lion if you haven't got enough memory

  • Will OSX Lion be compatible with hybrid disk drives?

I woud like to know if the new OSX will have support for hybrid disk drives. The drives that have a medium/small SSD disk and a bigger HDD disk. From what i've hear, for now OSX snow leopard is not compatible because it start to give errors of low disk space on the SSD part, since that is the main disk and have small volume.

There is no support for hybrid drives (although, the Momentus XT is the only one I know of).  The OS sees the drive as a standard hard drive.  Many people are using this drive with Snow Leopard without issue.  The operating system cannot see the SSD portion of the drive as such.  The hardware within the drive determines what gets stored on the SSD portion.  I have not heard of any low disk space errors consistent with your comment.

  • Will OSX Lion remember my different display setups?

I have a projector that I plug into at work and then at home I have an external display. I set these monitors up differently (e.g. Projector is the second monitor and my external screen at home is set up as the primary monitor) Will I have to go to the settings and re-configure this every time that I swap between the monitor at home and the projector at work?
    Thanks for your help.

The only active thing I see on that page is the banner near the top which keeps changing: "For the cat pictures", "For the poet", etc. Do you not see that? I did not see any link for "Home". Try these pages:

Incidentally, it seems to me that you are using Mountain LIon, not Lion. Mac OS 10.8 is Mountain Lion.

  • Is Mountain Lion still supported. There haven't been any security updates since the release of Mavericks

I am concerned that Mountain Lion may be no longer supported.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard and newer versions are supported and Apple releases security updates for them.
Rumor has it that support for Snow Leopard may be over.

  • Selling: Remove all personal info in HD with OSX Lion still installed

    Hi,
I know this has been asked before but I can't find any post relating to my exact situation.
I am planning to sell my macbook pro (bought mid-2009). I don't have the installation CD with me. I can't even remember what OS X it was.
Anyway, my current OS version is Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and since I don't have my old CD and for a better resale value, I would like the OS X Mountain Lion retained. Again, I have no choice as I don't have the installation CD (I moved country).
I know it is not the most secured but is there any way I would be able to erase only a few areas of my HD like Document, Photos, Music, Movies, Download folders?
I have de-authorised my Itunes, Icloud, Imessage already and cleared all my Internet browser caches.

If you upgraded to Lion and/or Mountain Lion by buying it from the Mac App Store you are not legally allowed to transfer that software.
You have to return the system to the OS that was running on it when you bought it new. If you no longer have the original install DVD's you can get them from Apple for a nominal fee.
    regards

  • [DUPLICATE] Possibility to disable OSX Lion native full screen support?

The newly implemented (v14.0.1 as far as I can tell) support for native OSX Lion fullscreen supports makes it very useless in a multi monitor setup. The old full screen support let me use the fullscreen for Firefox (and not letting window widgets get in the way) and continue using other applications on the other screens.
Is it possible to disable the OSX Lion full screen support? Otherwise I think it would be a welcome addition to the next update.

Locking as duplicate. Replies should be posted in the original thread, here:

  • MacBook & FCP Studio

Hi, I was about to buy a new 17" PowerBook yesterday when a dealer asked me to wait... you know the rest of the story, a new Intel Based portable is born and it does not support FCP Studio unless a special upgrade is made. Now I wonder if that upgrade will allw FCP to run natevely on Intel or will it use Rosetta to do the Job?!!!
any comments will help making my decision to move into the intel world or stay with the beloved G4!
    thanks

ok, so as you may know, FCP will not work on the new MacBook without a special update.... but will that update enables me to launch the same project and work on it using 2 different platforms, MacBook & a G4 for example?
with an external HDs, I'm always editing a sane project using my deskrop g5 "when I'm at the office" or my portable 17" "when I'm on the go... will that option be available for me if I get the new MacBook?

  • Does Business Objects XI still support RDC for Crystal Reports?

    Post Author: DLO34
    CA Forum: Integrated Solutions
My company develops an application which uses Crystal Reports to present data to the user. We have been using the RDC API through our internal C code for a while now. From the documentation I have found on this site I cannot be certain that BO XI will support RDC. I have found documents discussing the new RAS API and how to migrate applications to RAS. Will BO XI still support RDC or will we be required to write to the new RAS API? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
The RDC is a development tool, so your post is better suited under the Development | Other category in the forums.
The RDC is still supported in CR XI (v11.0) and CR XI R2 (v11.5).  The RDC has been depricated, so it's no longer receiving development focus, but it will still be supported for the lifecycle of the products it ships with.  No firm retirement date has been given to anyone yet, but it's likely that the RDC will be retired in the next release or two.
The RAS API is a very powerful report design API, however it's not a true replacement for the RDC (unless you're using Report Creation API calls with the RDC now).  RAS can be used with the .NET, COM (ASP), and Java SDKs.
Depending on how you actually use the RDC you'll want to consider which SDK you're going to migrate to - .NET, or Java, and then consider which API is appropriate.
    I hope this helps.

  • Time Capsule 1TB Will this unit still be compatible with Lion OSX ,As I have not switched yet until other programs I have installed on my mac are up to speed

I have had my eye on one of these for quite some time in the past and up until just very recently have puchased a 1TB Time Capsule at rather quite a reasonable price or so I had thought compared to what they had been priced at originally in the past which I had thought to be a bit over the top as is with most of apple's products or should I more say marketing tactic's,
Anyway I was just wanting to know in general is this unit already so to speak on it's way out or becoming obsolete in comparison to the 2TB's and 3TBs Time Capsules ,
Not the implicating the obvious being storage in differences but more so the compatibility issue side of things,
In short will this unit still work with OSX Lion for example, or is it only limited to Leopard and Snowleopard,
The place I had purchased this unit from are more or less in the dark themselves and although more than helpful are more a musical instrument outlet than a computer store as the decision was my choice alone in which I need not to be convinced,
Although I have purchased this item I am yet to recieve as this unit was the one of the last in the country and is to be shipped in from out of town,
But has given me time to think of such in the process during as this unit is no longer advertised amongst it bigger companions,
I use my mac or mac's mainly for composing music with such software as Pro Tools 8 soon to be 9 and also Live 8 Studio as I don't plan to plan to change over to Lion OSX until these programs are up to speed and speaking the same language,

    Yes, it's compatible with Lion.
