Will PC and Mac be able to get together this Valentine's?

Hello!
My flatmate has an Apple eMac and I have a Windows 98 Dell Dimension XPS R450. We have just signed up to NTL Broadband and have the modem connected to the Windows 98 PC. Broadband is running fine on the PC.
One of us is a student and the other an impoverished musician so we want to try and get both computers running internet independently as cheaply as possible. Is it possible to buy a cable (not wireless) router and connect both computers to this? Are there any types of router that are PC and Mac friendly? Or is Airport Extreme the only way the Mac can connect up? If so what would we need for this to work?

Welcome aboard, Admiral.
Routers are pretty much platform independent, since they "talk" ethernet, and configuration is usually done via browsers. Some come with Windows wizards to assist with setup, but this doesn't mean they won't work with a Mac. Macs can connect to pretty much any router.
You might check with your provider- sometimes they can provide a modem with a built-in router, which might be cheaper for you. Otherwise, you should watch the web or local newspapers for router on sale. In my experience, you might get a wireless router cheaper sinced these seem to be "loss leaders" at many stores; these generally have wired connections as well, so you don't need to connect wirelessly.
BTW, Admiral, do you know what one calls a musician who has just broken up with his partner? Homeless.

Did this ever get resolved, as I am having the same issue. Trying to learn LR5 AFTER a decade using Aperture. I was able to set up a validated account but when I try to send an e-mail or photo I get the simple " Failed to Send " message. Using latest version of Mac OS X.

Because it's built-in to the iP4S only. Only Apple knows why but perhaps the iP4 does not have enough processing power to run it as well as Apple requires.

Try to download the application VLC.
It is a media player that should be able to play any audio or video file you may have. If your videos play flawlessly using that application, then the issue is with iTunes and Quicktime, as they are both essentially similar software types when it comes to playing media.
In that case you may need to install a plug-in file called Perian, in order for the videos to play correctly within iTunes or at least Quicktime...

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

I am trying to update my CS 6 so it can read the RAW from my NIKON D7000 and do get error messages allthe time have tried for a few month now and have not been able and not been able to get any support help either and I think i is realy BAD What to do????

Hmmmm, http://www.seattlepi.com/ loads fine hear in 10.4.11, FF 3.6.8, but I do see it uses some kind of Flash.
The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a leter version installed.

HFM: Where can I specify column type as type in HFM? And also being able to get text value in smartview

I'm new to HFM (11.1.2.1), and I have a question regarding where I can specify a column type as "Text" not number in web form of HFM. Right now I set "Cell Text" field to "[Default]", but was unable to get the text (HsGetText) in smartview with corresponding POV. The reason I thought was that I didn't successfully store the text in the POV. But how to correctly indicate a column type as "Text"? Does anyone know the answer?

I am not sure if I understand what you want to achieve. However, I would suggest to set the Cell Text field to "1" (instead of "[Default]") in order to be able to input/export cell text in a web. form.

Trying to upgrade to Maverick but my disk has Time Machine backup so it cant and will not intall. How do I get around this problem?

I have a 13-inch MacBook Mid-2009 running on IOS X Lion and am trying to upgrade to Mavericks but after the download and starting installation the point where you choose which disk to use it says my hard drive is being used for Time Machine backups so it can not be used. I have turned off the Time Machine but do not know how to remove the backups from the hard drive. What do I do to get rid of the Time Machine backups I no longer actually need and install Mavericks? I have moved all my files to a separate terabyte hard drive but that drive does not have the GUID partition scheme to be used for installation. So I am stuck with one internal hard drive I cant use due to Time Machine and an external hard drive I cant use due to this GUID partition problem. How can I work around this and finally upgrade to Mavericks?

Issues with vision box and not being able to get "...

Hi all, i've upgraded my package to essentials extra, and that gone through ok, but my Vision + box is still using WinCE firmware and not the firmware required to watch fox ect, when ever I try doing a master reset (OK + Down) it forrages off for new firmware, dose what it needs to do, then reboots, just to give me WinCE still... i've been through the mill contacting customer services from order management - extra channels team - tech services and they are all passing the buck... end result 3 days of trying to get this resolved, I am still none the wiser!? arghh!

Firefox 4 will not open but returns to reboot request over and over how do I get past this?

I downloaded the Firefox 4 update and now can not open Firefox. I have had to go through google browser to reach Firefox. The screen keeps coming up with instructions to reboot after the download. I have done this several times. I can not find Firefox in my program list at this time .

No, that's a rather silly conclusion.
There are two options:
stop using the crappy router provided by the ISP.

Firefox no longer shows pictures for any website I go to. All graphics are gone. I tried using another browser and I am able to get pictures. I really like Firefox and want to be able to use it. This is for a pc.

About 10 days ago Firefox started to show only some pictures that should be on website--shopping sites or any other. After a few more day it now shows no pictures or graphics at all. It makes it almost impossible to use. I can see text, but it is rearranged on pages. Can't see buttons to click on etc.

Not sure from your example but it appears that the address doesn't have a full domain, i.e., the part between http:// and the next / is not a valid internet domain name, e.g.,
http://sometext-webproxy/
In that case, it's probably something running on your computer, either as part of your security software, or as a Firefox add-on, or malware.
A standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If you can access sites normally, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.
To also disable plugins, you can try here:
