Will PC DVD iTunes Backup Discs work in MacBookPro (PC to MAC transfer)?

The question is simple, I hope the answer is too. I plan on buying a new MacBookPro (MBP)shortly and want to transfer my music from my PC to the Mac. My library isn't that big and I can burn it to several (8) DVD's if I have to.
The question is, will a backup iTunes DVD from a PC work when put into a MBP?? Or, is there something I need to do to the format of the DVD's to make them work in a MBP after the PC has backed them up to DVDs?
Second question, I have copied the iTunes Library to an external HDD (NTFS format). Can I hook the external Drive up to the MAC and transfer the music that way? This would be easier of course.
Any ideas?

Sounds like you have plenty of ways to transfer all the files. I'm confused, though:
+I was hoping I could drag and drop the iTunes library file from my PC to a MBP by using a external hard drive+
The library file is just a database. You need to move the library content, too (all the music & movies).
If you have the standard itunes setup, all your itunes content should be on the PC in a folder named itunes media. It will have all the subfolders of movies, podcasts, music (arranged in yet more subfolders by artist, then album). That's all you really need to move to the MBP if you don't care about ratings, playlists, & play counts.

  • Itunes backup disc error

I made a complete back-up of my itunes library (I have the disc). After reformatting my computer and loading all my programs back in; I started to reload my itunes. itunes took all of my back-up disc except for one (1). All of the information is on the disc but it is having trouble loading from it. My question is: How do I use the information on this disc that will not load in the back-up procedure into my itunes without having to go locate the disc from my collection stored away in a box? I can read the information off the disc but just can not back it up into my itunes. Thanks.

I re-burned the backup disk using a brand new CD and iTunes on the laptop has opened it OK.

  • Help canceled itune backup disc drive wont open??

Why wont my disc drive open to remove disc?
I canceled the stupid itunes offer to back up my music and because said it'd take hours (Im an idiot I guess I didnt know it would take that long).
Now my disc drive wont open I tried ejecting it by my comp and clicking eject disc or open on disc drive didnt work.
Tried task mangager end, didnt do it.
Whats the deal? I will never try to back up itunes again, I mean they save my data I buy anyway.
    Help!?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you ! It worked I was headed there but wasnt sure if that was the right action or not.
I was affraid it would just pick up where it left off.
UGH. That was my first experience with that in several years of pc use LOL.
If my disc drive works I guess it didnt hurt it? It was running kinda hard after but seems okay.

  • Will the new iTunes 11 still work for power users?

I've looked at the available screenshots, and I'm worried.
On the new iTunes page, Apple says, "Simplicity is a beautiful thing" — but I'm not so sure. I don't see any conventional list views, and I'm very worried that in simplifying it, they've sacrificed the control that so many music lovers like myself have come to rely on.
    Here's Apple's info:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/new-itunes/
    Anyone have additional insight?

    Limnos wrote:
    1) iTunes is free software.  As such it isn't targeted at the "power user" nor does Apple have a specific committment to produce a certain style product.
I disagree. Apple has added many, many features to iTunes over the years that target the power user. From smart playlists, to obscure things like ID3 tag version control. Power users features are sprinkled throughout iTunes. And to say that Apple doesn't have a "specific committment to produce a certain style product" is true, but also fairly obvious/meaningless.
    2) iTunes' developments over the past decade have largely been in the marketing facet.  As for basic music playing not much has changed since it was developed from Soundjam.  What has changed a lot is the introduction of the iTunes Store and interfacing with mobile devices.
Basic music playing has changed a LOT. You couldn't even rate your tracks in the beginning.
    3) Apple is a for-profit corporation.   We might like to remember them as the little-computer-that-could taking on the big corporations, but frankly they aren't that anymore.  They have a responsibility to their shareholders to do whatever it takes to maximize profit.  We don't really know what the October iTunes looks like (much) but if they decide to dumb it down so it is easier for people primarily interested in using iPhones to use then from a marketing perspective can't blame them.  We might not like it and might yearn for the the days when Apple really was computers, but those days are gone.
This is simplified to point of meaninglessness. There's an interaction between customers and product design teams. It may not be obvious from the outside, but there's still a give & take. What you're saying is in essence is, "Shut up and accept whatever happens," which is not a rational approach.
    4) If Apple decided iTunes wasn't in their interest they would drop it in a flash.  Where's iDVD?  iDVD was something people were willing to pay for.  They still would, but Apple isn't selling it anymore even though it is clear people in general have not given up on DVDs.
iDVD is not a good comparison, because of the vastly different switching costs. I used iDVD, but was fairly unaffected by its slow demise.

  • Can't import iTunes backup disc onto 2nd PC - error code (-69)

Hi, I've taken a data file backup CD from iTunes on my desktop and tried to import it into iTunes on my laptop. Have done this successfully before but this time I get "unkown error (-69)" in iTunes on the laptop and the CD won't open in iTunes. Both PCs are running the same version of iTunes (6.0.4.2); I can read the CD in Windows Explorer on the laptop, and the CD opens in iTunes on the desktop wihout any problem.
    Any further info required?

  • Will TuringTest2s corrupt iTunes recovery guide work for a Mac?

    Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash
Im desperate to sort my issue and I think this could help but I'm not sure if these steps are the same for a Mac. I dont want to break anything and I want my content back.
Im trying to fix an issue where after a crash I am now getting this:
"The file iTunes Library.itl does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged)"

Ok great, I pressed ahead and tried to do it and found all the right bits but for some reason iTunes Library.itl wouldn't let me rename it and I also couldn't do the finding a new library thing by holding down iTunes as I still just got the same warning that the library isn't valid and its been renamed and replaced.
    Any pointers?

  • HT3275 My new Time Machine isn't backing up. I now get this message ..."Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to 'Marks Time Capsule'. The backup disc image "/volumes/Data/Mark's Mac Book Pro.sparsebundle" is already in use. *** does that mean?

Hey, my new Time Machine worked a treat for the first couple of days, but now I get a "sparsebundle is already in use" message. Also, the original 153gb backup seems to have disappeared! Any clues with how I can deal with this?

Just reboot the whole network.. restart modem .. router/TC.. clients with 2min gap.

  • Will an original iSight camera (peripheral) work with newer versions of Mac OS X (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion)?

    Hi there,
I'm thinking about purchasin a used iSight camera so I can skype using my TV (which I now use as a monitor). Will this older legacy product work with my MacBook Pro (2011)?
    Thanks,

It can work, but I'd recommend a new compatible USB cam instead.

  • My iPhone got stolen - can I back up that phone's data on another iPhone from iTunes backup?

Details: My iPhone 4 was stolen and I activated Lost Mode on iCloud. A lot of time has passed and I've given up the chance of getting it back. My question is this. I'm trying to back up a new iPhone with my old phones data that I saved on iTunes backups. When I try to back up my new phone with the stolen phone's data, it says I must first disable Lost Mode before I can do this. Since the phone was stolen, I can't use the phone to disable Lost Mode and I'm if I go to iCloud and remove the device permanantly from "my devices" I'm afraid it will delete my iTunes backup for that phone and all the data I'm trying to transfer to the new phone. Does that make sense? How can I turn off "Lost Mode" without deleting my iTunes backup for my phone that was stolen so that I can back up my new iPhone with my old phone's back up file on iTunes?

  • ICal Crashing after startup; iTunes won't work

    My problem is twofold:
My iCal calender (desktop) crashes upon opening every time. I reinstalled Tiger (from "not for resale discs" supplied by Apple). It did not fix the crashing; I still can't use iCal. Now, iTunes won't work with this installation of Mac OSX.
I deleted iCal and reinstalled the OS again and I have the same results. Coincidentally, this crash happened after I upgraded to the iPhone 3Gs.
    Can anyone help me?

  • ITunes Sharing Not Working After Years of Working Great

After many years of iTunes Home Sharing working great with an old Mac Mini and a large shared library of music and videos, I decided it was time to upgrade the system with a new Mac Mini (bought a few weeks ago) with a nice OWC external hard drive for the data.
I am now having problems sharing on all devices.  On AppleTV it has trouble finding the shared library.
On another Mac in my home it shows the shared libary in iTunes, but when you click on it to use it it gets stuck on "Loading".
The only thing that solves the problem is for me to go to the iTunes computer and shut off and restart iTunes.  That will then work for a period of time (not very long) and then we go back to the problem.
I have checked all the settings and nothing seems to be wrong.
I am using the latest versions of everything.
    Any ideas?
