Will PC Games Run on a Macbook?

Hello everyone =)
My boyfriend recently purchased a MacBook. I don't know anything about it other than its white and has a 13" screen (I'm a PC girl, sorry, please dont throw things at me). Anyway, I really want to get him a game to play on it. He LOVES Sim Golf, but it only comes in a PC version. My question is, will it work on a Mac or will it just be a hassle for him...keep in mind hes not overly computer literate.
Thank you in advance for all the help!
Nicole

Is the bootcamp process a difficult one? I don't want to burden him with a hassle. He signed up for One-On-One Lessons at the Apple store...will they be able to help him with this? And if he installs bootcamp will he always have to be running windows then?
Sorry for the abundance of questions!

  • Will this game run on my MacBook?

*I apologise if this sort of thread has popped up numerous times before but I am unsure whether my computer will be able to run the new Sims 3 game.*
*The requirements for the game are;*
    **OPERATING SYSTEM**
**Mac OS X 10.5.7 Leopard or higher**
    *PROCESSOR*
    **Intel Core Duo**
    **MEMORY (RAM)**
    *2GB*
    **HARD DISK SPACE**
**6.1GB of space, 1 GB extra for saved games and custom content**
    **VIDEO CARD**
**ATI X1600 or Nvidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of video RAM or Intel Integrated GMA X3100**
*I currently have 1 GB of RAM and plan to upgrade it to 2GB. However I think I only have GMA 950, whatever that means. Will I be unable to run this game?*
    *Intel GMA 950:*
    *Chipset Model: GMA 950*
    *Type: Display*
    *Bus: Built-In*
*VRAM (Total): 64 MB of Shared System Memory*
    *Vendor: Intel (0x8086)*
    *Device ID: 0x27a2*
    *Revision ID: 0x0003*

    According to the requirements:
+*This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems, or the GMA 950 class of integrated video cards.*+
While you don't have a PowerPC... you do have the GMA 950. As they specifically say it isn't compatible, there's probably no point in even trying. To be honest the x3100 would probably be just barely playable. Game manufacturers usually set the minimum requirements for hardware that will barely run it and up... so even meeting the minimum requirements does not mean you will have "good" performance.
There is unfortunately no way to add a card to improve your graphics capabilities. The Sims have traditionally been pretty light on their graphics requirements. With The Sims 3, they have beefed up the graphics a bit which knocks out some of the lower end GPUs.

  • Java will no longer run on my MacBook pro since I updated my java

Java will no longer run on my MacBook pro since I updated my java - what the heck is with that? When I try to do as suggested and go under Java preferences it wont allow me make any changes this is the error message I get "Cannot launch "java preference" no compatible version of Java 1.5 + is available."
Then it gives the option to open java preferences or quit. It will only allow me to quit as it won't open java preferences. Stupid updates!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

  • Will Photoshop CS5 run on my MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I've a MacBook Pro 2.16 running OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard.
But it has a Core Duo processor, not a Core2Duo.
Will it run om my Core Duo ?
    Thanks...

Intel Core Duo - 32 bit , only 32 bit version of Photoshop will be available
Intel Core 2 Duo - 64 bit - Both 32 bit and 64 bit options to run Photoshop are available

  • How will Adobe Premiere run on Apple MacBook Pro MC373LL/A ?

The specs are listed at: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.66-aluminum- 15-mid-2010-unibody-specs.html
Can anyone confirm that Adobe Premiere will run on this computer, and if there are any performance problems?

It depends on what you are doing with it.  With only a dual core processor, if it only has the default 4 GB of RAM, a lousy 5400rpm drive, and an older nVidia GPU with only 512 MB of video RAM (no GPU Hardware MPE acceleration) i doubt if you would be happy with the performance.  Maybe Premiere Elements might work.

  • Will FCX run on a Macbook Air

Will FCX run on a Macbook Air?

Yes, provided it's running OS X Mavericks (10.9), and has a 64-bit processor.

  • How well will Mountain Lion run on the following MacBook Pro?

Thinking about biting the bullet and upgrading to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro. My specs are as follows:
    MacBook Pro 15"
    (Late 2008 model MacBookPro5,1)
    Intel core 2 duo 2.53Ghz
    8GB RAM
    1TB HD with 390GB free
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
So, how well will Mountain Lion run on this configuration? Currently I'm finding my computer annoyingly slow, so am wondering whether an upgrade was worth trying or not?
Any advice would be most appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Joe.

Sorry, I should have been clearer - that's what I was thinking, which is why I was asking the question. I thought that if I was going to all the effort of a reformat etc that I should just upgrade to Mountain Lion while I was at it, but didn't want to do that if it was going to run really slowly anyway and then have to go through it all again to go back to Snow Leopard.

.... Mountain Lion should run fine on that machine.
So, have you had any personal experience of Mountain Lion running fine on this MacBook Pro? I know that officially it will run, but I'm wondering about the "real life" experience of it running on this model.
Anyone out there able to share their expeience?

  • Will Adobe Creative Suite 5 run on a Macbook Air?

I'm thinking of replacing my Macbook Pro 15" with a Macbook Air. I mainly do copywriting, but sometimes I need InDesign and Photoshop. Does the CS suite require a quad-core computer? Will it run on a Macbook Air?

Do NOT get any MacBook 2012 models if you use Adobe CS4, 5, 5.5 or 6.  All models are crashing on any dialog box popup's, i.e. they are nearly unusable for work, unless you like saving every 30 seconds.  They do restart Indesign very fast after it crashes...  Apple has made no comment on what seems to be an obvious video card driver issue in OS X 10.7.4 on the new 2012 models. There are a number of other video related issues as well, but the show stopper for us is the Indesign incompatibility.  Google "fixed" the Chrome problems by removing the 3D accelerator calls thereby slowing down Chrome on these models.

  • Will Final Cut Express HD run on my MacBook?

    Hi all!
I bought myself a MacBook Intel C2D a few months ago. I do enjoy it very very much.
I am thinking about going from iMovie to Final Cut Express HD, but I am not sure if it will run on my MacBook Intel C2D.
Anyone who can enlighten me in this subject?
    Sincerely,
    Andreas
    MacBook Intel C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, Final Cut Express will run on your MacBook. When you purchase, be sure to get FCE version 3.5 (not an earlier version).
What are the specs of your MacBook - especially how much RAM memory and what size HD you have in it.
Here are the FCE technical specs. Even though the minimum requirement is 512MB RAM, Final Cut Express will run much better if you have at least 1GB RAM in your MacBook (and 1GB RAM is the minimum if you plan to do HDV video).
    Hope that helps!

  • Will FCS run on a MacBook (not MacBook Pro?)

I'm looking in to getting FCS, but I've got a MacBook, not a MacBook Pro. Am I understanding it correctly that FCS won't run on my MacBook because I don't have some graphics processor/chip/card?
If that's the case, is there any way for me to run FCS on my MacBook?

I won't be installing anything but DVD Studio Pro 4. Although just today my Compressor (came with Logic) stopped working, so I might try to install that one as well. I don't know what the **** is going on but since I've 'upgraded' to Snow Leopard my programs are dropping like flies.
Larry, you say that FCS 3 works with your MacBook. On the Apple site as well as others it is simply labeled Final Cut Studio. It comes with Final Cut Pro 7 and all those other programs, but I'm wondering what the current version of the entire package is and if it is the same one that you mentioned. Or maybe FCS 3 is a previous version that will be impossible to locate?

  • Will aperture 4 work in my macbook pro running 10.6.8?

Will Aperture 4 work in my Macbook Pro? I've got 10.6.8? thanks

There is no Aperture 4 at this time.
Aperture 3.5.1 requires OS X 10.9 or higher, so one would figure that any future versions of Aperture (3.5.2 or higher) would require 10.9.x at minimum, as well.

  • Do games run better when played using windows xp?

i was wondering if games run better if you have windows xp on your macbook?

Obviously, games with no Mac version will. In actual fact the answer really is… they can. Game performance depends on many many things so a straight answer of yes or no isn't going to be correct.

  • Buying games from America for Macbook Pro

I have just purchased a macbook pro (still waiting its arrival) and wish to purchase a few games to kill time on long journeys. Firstly what are the implications of buying games from the US (cost, region settings, import costs if any)??? and secondly if i buy a game that doesn't have a Universal symbol will it still run on the intel based macbook pro??? i only ask because i've got a Quad G5 running on the power pc chip and wish to play games on that too?
    thanks
P.S. i want my macbook pro

Games or software in general don't have regional zoning, I bought games in the US many times without any problems.
Regarding Universal Binary, you should have a look there:
    http://guides.macrumors.com/UniversalBinaryGames
This is a report of games that are UB, and more importantly, wether a particular non-UB game works or not on Intel-based macs.
This is generally reliable, although I noticed that Star Wars Knights of Old Republic (KOTOR) doesn't work, and the UB patch that should have been available never came...

  • Game console connect to MacBook?

Perhaps this isn't the best place to ask this question, but I'm looking for a way to connect a Nintendo Game Cube to my MacBook, since I don't have a television. Would I need emulators? Is there a cord that someone manufactures for that purpose?
Any info you can provide (even if it's info on a better place to post such a question) would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Did some searching around for you. There are two possibilities--one easy, one difficult/illegal. So let's stick with the easy way.
What you need is the EyeTV from Elgato (Pinnacle makes a similar product, though I don't know if it works in this capacity). This will allow you to use your Macbook's screen as an pseudo-external monitor. I say "pseudo" because it appears to do all of this through the hardware as an app, so you never have to leave OS X.
*This might only apply to processing over-the-air signals, I have no idea--->*Since you're on a Macbook, it might be a better choice to go with the EyeTV 250 Plus (as opposed to the USB stick), as it does all of the encoding with its own hardware, rather than from your Macbook's processor.
This guy has his XBOX360 hooked up to his Macbook with some instructions in the description box. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FXqSz1IGjc
I personally have never used the EyeTV, but it looks pretty cool--you can even get cable on your mac since you don't have a tv!
