Will Photocast from iPhoto '06 make a comeback in iPhoto '11

PhotoStream works great on my iPhone and my iMac.
But it only works with my personal photos on my
  personal devices.
Photocast was a feature from iPhoto '06 that allowed others to
subscribe to folders on your iMac and recieve
   automatic updates just like PhotoStream.
Now would be a great time to bring back
PhotoCast to iPhoto '11 and include it in iOS 6!

Thanks for the tip. I hope the iPhoto team brings it back.
The only Apple way to share photos are
  iMessage, email and Photojournals.
Photojournal are cool, but are only viewable
  through the browser when sharing.

  • Wrong photo will import from iPhoto window

During the normal course of editing, all of the photos that were in the movie were overprinted with a random movie clip still. The thumbnails in the project window still show the intended photo, but only the new clip still will show during playback. By right-clicking the photo and doing "Show in Finder", the correct .jpg file is referenced. When I try to drag the correct photo back in from the photo media window, a photo will be brought in, but it will be one that appears a few spots away in the list from the intended one. The thumbnail remains the correct photo. I believe something has become corrupted in my iMovie project that will not show the correct photo, even though the program is internally pointing to the correct photo. Very frustrating, as I have lost many days of careful editing. Made a copy of the project and have tried many things, to no avail.
Anyone have an idea? Is there a parameter file or something that I can delete that will reset things? Thanks very much.

The distortion/blurriness may arise due to the size of the photo being imported from iPhoto.
iMovie HD 6 appears to have problems handling very large photos - these should be resized (not cropped) in iPhoto before being imported to iMovie HD. The process is described in this post by Karl Petersen on 14/04/2007:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4389924#4389924
Karl describes the process very thoroughly (as always) in Point 3 of his post.
Doing as Karl suggests may not, of course, help in your particular case but it's certainly worth a try.

  • Getting a New Macbook, will restoring from Old Mac make it slow??

    Hello!
Ive had my Macbook since early 08 and am finally going to get a new one! This one is quite slow, it takes forever to "think", the rainbow ball is spins a lot. I currently use time machine to back up my macbook, and have a few questions: If I load my current hd onto the new Macbook, will it be slow like this one? Once I get a new macbook, I will erase the content on this one, will it still be slow? It has a new, large hard drive, so Im not sure why its so slow! Is this the processor slowing down? Im not too computer savvy
    Thank you!

Read this and choose what you think serves your interests best:
    http://pondini.org/OSX/Setup.html
It is best to reinstall non Apple applications later.  You should be able to install a new OS at anytime you choose without any affect in your data.  With that said, always have a backup.
    Ciao.

  • Migrating from iPhoto 08 (v7.1.5) to iPhoto 11 (v9.3)

    Greetings iPhoto gurus,
I currently run iPhoto 08 (v7.1.5) and I have an extensive library of pictures, albums and slideshows. I'm considering upgrading to iPhoto 11, but will only do so if it will retain and migrate all my current stuff. In the process of upgrading, will the resulting iPhoto 11 library contain all the slideshows, albums and metadata (particularly the Description field which I have made extensive use of and do not fancy retyping for several hundred piccies) be migrated?
I also have the latest version of Aperture (v3.3) which I have only just started to use. What prompted this query is that I now see that Aperture v3.3. and iPhoto 11 v9.3 can share the same libraries without exporting/importing, which is obviously appealling to me.
My ultimate nirvana is being able to merge the migrated iPhoto 11 library with my current Aperture library so that I can have one database with all my legacy pictures, slideshows and metadata alongside the new stuff that I have been populating since procuring Aperture.
    Can anyone advise on:
    1) Will migrating from iPhoto 08 to iPhoto 11, as described above, work?
    2) Will I be able to merge the resulting iPhoto 11 library with the Aperture 3.3 library?
    Many thanks in anticipation.
    Simon.

Thanks - time machine already up and running. I will also duplicate library and copy that to external drive.
I tested the process of migration on my Macbook (where I have just a few test pictures - my main library is on my iMac). It all seemed to migrate fine. I then merged library with Aperture and everything seemed to transfer across - including Descriptions nicely migrating to Caption metadata. Quite impressed.
I am able to switch between iPhoto and Aperture library with ease in both applications. Nice!
Will try it for real later in the week and report back success or issues for the benefit of any other user who is contemplating the same thing.
    Cheers all,
    Simon.

  • HT3275 Can i delete all my photos from iphoto to make space for more, and Time Machine will have saved all the old ones? i don't want to delete any because they may be lost forever.

    any info much appreciated

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can do it but you shouldn't. Time Machine deletes old backups when your Time Capsule gets full, so you will lose your iPhoto libraries and the pictures they have.
If you want, one thing you can do is to move the iPhoto library to another external disk, so you will get free space on the hard disk

  • I can't move photos from iPhoto to my secondary hard drive or to a burn folder.  I have never had a problem with this before.  This is something new.   They will not drop into either folder.  Nothing happens.

I can't move photos from iPhoto to my secondary hard drive or to a burn folder.  I have never had a problem with this before.  This is something new.   They will not drop into either folder.  Nothing happens.
I checked my secondary harddrive and there is plenty of memory.
I emptied my burn folder but the photos still will not drop into it.
I created a new burn folder, no luck with this either.
230 photos is the maximum size of the events I am trying to move from iPhoto to save elsewhere.
I have shut down and restarted my computer.   No change. The photos still will not drop out of iPhoto.
My Mac Computer Storage shows that I have 62.2GB free out of 249.2GB (movies, photos and contacts taking up the most space)
My Lacie External Harddrive (2TB capacity) shows that I have 1.79TB available.  It shows that 207,729,520,640 bytes (207.73 GB on disk) are used.
I have never had this problem before.  It is usually very easy to move my photos from iPhoto.
I am not a computer expert (I work in surgery so don't have a need for lots of computer knowledge) so please explain in simple terms.
Thank you so much for any help you can provide.
    I really appreciate it.

YES Terence!  Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop.   But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now.   Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore?   I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs.  I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly.  I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?!  I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.
Thank you so much for your help.   I really, really appreciate it.

  • HT1040 trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.

trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.
if i clear the book so that it is all blanks and then try to load in the pictures i have it loses the chronology of the pictures that i had established in the album.
is there a way to import photos into an ibook template and keep the original order of the photos without having to do them one at a time?
also, is there a way to insert a photo rather than just dragging it? i have tried the cut and paste funciton but it doesn't seem to work, the target site doesn't seem to register with iphoto.
    many thanks for your help.

Photos are added to book in chronological order.  So if you want to add them to a book in the order you have placed them manually in an album do the following:
1 - select all the photos in the album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option as shown here. Select any date and add 1 minute between photos.
3 - select just one photo from the album and create a book from it.
4 - in the book click on the Options button ➙ Book Settings button and make sure the checkbox for Auto-layout pages is unchecked.
5 - drag the album with your book photos onto the book icon and they will be imported into the Photos tray of the book in your pre-determined order but not into the pages themselves.

  • I need to make space on my Mac. If I copy a folder from iPhoto on to a hard drive, then delete it from iphoto then import it again, does it retain all my editing? It does not seem to retain Faces info and I have spent hours and days naming people :(

There is no way to export Faces information.
I'm not sure why you would do this:
If I copy a folder from iPhoto on to a hard drive, then delete it from iphoto then import it again,
If space is an issue then move the whole Library to an external drive:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • I just installed elements 11 with camera raw 7.1. My  photos from iPhoto will not open in camera raw

I just installed elements 11 with camera raw 7.1 in my iMac. My raw photo files from iPhoto will not open in camera raw. The elements screen opens without a photo, but camera raw willnot open. Help.

You need to tell iphoto to send raw files out of iphoto or it will make its own conversion and send a pre-converted file. Go to the iphoto preferences>advanced and turn on this checkbox:

I made an iMovie from iPhoto pictures that both look GREAT.  Watching the DVD i burned on a Playstation2 makes the pics look fuzzy. Why? how can i fix this?
    MPR

When you watch on your Mac, it is at or near HD 1920x1080 pixels (about 2 megapixels), depending on the resolution of your screen. Most photos today are 5 megapixels or greater, depending on your camera, but anything over 2 megapixels must be reduced when put in a video.
When you create a DVD, you must further reduce it to 640x480, standard definition. This is about 0.3 megapixels. iDVD will do this for you.
You can fix by creating an HD movie in iMovie. You can Share this using Share/Export Using QuickTime to an MP4 container using the h.264 codec. You can then put this movie on your PS3 using a USB thumb drive.
That should give you good resolution.
(NEVER MIND, YOU SAID PS2 not PS3, my apologies)

  • Will iWeb work with Aperture 3 if I move from iPhoto to Aperture?

I currently use iPhoto, and have an iWeb site. Is there any reason that iWeb and my published site would not continue to work if I import all of my iPhoto library into Aperture 3 and then stop using iPhoto? I am considering moving from iPhoto to Aperture. Thanks!

    You're welcome bobio.
I assume you are talking about the sidebar, and if so I don't know the answer to that one. Your Events get converted to Projects which are actually more flexible than Events in iPhoto. A Project contains all of the pictures from your event, but they can also contain Multiple Albums and Folders and Sub-Folders. My website has shots of things I've grilled or smoked arranged by categories: Beef, Pork, Lamb etc. So my iPhoto side bar was manually sorted to reflect the same folder structure I had in iWeb's side bar. Once my import was complete, I created folders again and dragged my new Projects(formerly Events) into the new folders. I just looked and there a sort by pop-up but it has only choices of "by kind" (Projects, Albums etc.) or "Manual". So if they don't come in that way you are going to have to manually sort them in chronological order. But the main window that displays the thumbnails of the Projects can be sorted chronologically. So if you need to sort the sidebar, display the thumbnails by date and then this will help you with the order you will need to create in the sidebar by dragging the Projects around.
Once you have made absolutely 110 percent sure your photos were imported successfully, I would delete the iPhoto library. You could always play it extra safe and export it to a DVD(s). You should keep the iPhoto app around if you use the calendars or cards features. At this time Aperture only does Books. I do a calendar every year. This year I exported the photos I wished to use out of Aperture and imported them into iPhoto to make the calendar.
The other thing you may want to consider is what to do about edits you've made in iPhoto. One reason I switched to Aperture was to save disk space. For photos that originated in Aperture, there is one copy of the photo in it's library-this is called a Master. When you do an edit it is called a Version. Aperture keeps a text file with a list of instructions for what to do to that photo to accomplish your edit for this Version. So you can make lots of Versions of a photo and make lots of edits and the library size doesn't grow much at all, because there is still just one Master. In iPhoto when you make an edit the original is retained as is, and iPhoto creates a second copy of the photo which is what you edit. Because of this differing approach your iPhotos Events, which are now Projects in Aperture, will contain two copies of every photo you ever edited in iPhoto. The original unedited version and the copy which was the final results of your edits. If you are happy with these edits and won't ever want to go back, you can delete the originals. I spent quite a bit if time deleting these duplicate photos in all of the imported projects. Aperture does add keywords to help you tell which is which: "iPhoto Original" and "iPhoto Edited". Also remember to empty the Aperture trash (found in the Aperture Menu).
Good luck with the transition. You've got a bit of tedious work ahead of you, but the end results are well worth the efforts. I am so happy I made the change.

  • Import Photos from IPhoto into 3rd party Photo Book Maker?

Using BookSmart from Blurb, to make a photo book, this a GREAT piece of software BTW, I need to import photos from IPhoto and can't seem to see how do it? Not sure I even can. Any help??

Assuming the program has an Import option that brings up an Open/Save/Attach file browser window, look in the left hand sidebar for Photos, under the Media heading at the bottom. It will show you your iPhoto library. Probably easiest if you first create an album in iPhoto for the photos you think you are likely to use.
Alternatively, browse the Blurb site for an FAQ and find:
    http://blurb.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/blurb.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?p_faqid=74&p_sid=44cbAnHj&purl=
How do I use iPhoto pictures with BookSmart?
To view JPGs and PNGs that are stored in iPhoto, click the My iPhoto Images bar in the left content column of BookSmart. Choose which album you’d like to view via the dropdown menu, and then drag and drop the images into your book. BookSmart will only make copies of images you actually drag (or autoflow) to pages of your book.

I never tried importing from the iPhoto library as referenced images. I wonder if Aperture can access images stored in an iPhoto library package?  Even if it would work, it sounds like a bad thing to do.
You might consider starting over and this time have Aperture manage the images.  That will copy them to the Aperture library, leaving the iPhoto library untouched. This assumes you have sufficient space to make a complete copy of all the images in your iPhoto library plus another copy of each image that Aperture makes as the preview image. You can then back up your iPhoto library (two backup copies, just to be sure) then remove it from your hard drive when you start getting too low on space.  As I write this I don't know where your iPhoto or Aperture libraries are/will be located so I'm assuming you have them on your HD.

  • I want to move my photos from iPhoto to Time Capsule to make space on my computer.  What's the best means of doing this?

I want to move my photos from iPhoto to Time Capsule to make space on my computer.  What's the best means of doing this?

    Please do not do this.
The Time Capsule was designed for your backups.....not as an everyday hard drive. Access to the Time Capsule is slow.
If there is any loss of connection between iPhoto and the iPhoto library when you are reading or writing, the entire iPhoto library is easily corrupted.
The chances of corruption are even more likely if you are using wireless on the computer.
And....even if you decide to risk this....if you move your "original" iPhoto library to the Time Capsule.....how will you make backups of the library?
The only copy of the library will be on the Time Capsule....you have no backups.....when, not if, the Time Capsule has a problem.
Simply stated, I would never do this with any important data that you cannot afford to lose. Please post in the iPhoto support area if you need to confirm this.

If you do want an idea of how to move your iPhoto library correctly, post back and we can help.

  • Will Apple add the "Batch Change" option from iPhotos into Photos?

Will Apple add the "Batch Change" option from iPhotos into Photos?  It appears to be a major complaint across the board and a severe limitation.  I see complaints about this all through the forum.  Apple?

We have no idea.  But to help them make that decision tell Apple what additional features you want in Photos via both http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html and http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html  since they don't have a feedback page for Photos as yet.
