Will photos be lost during update?

OS X 10.9.2 is not compatible with my iPhoto 9.2.1, which version should I upgrade to? Also, I have read lots of threads where people have lost their photo's. Is this bound to happen?

Upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 from the App Store.  It's a free upgrade if you currently have 9.2.1. Just go to the App Store and download 9.5.1.
Your photos will not be lost. Of the millions that have upgraded to 9.5.1 only a minute few have had problems.  However, as with any update or upgrade one should always have a backup of your files on another hard drive.

  • HT1766 lost my photos and videos during update

Never backed up and synced my ipad mini. went to update to the ios 6 and lost all my photos and videos. any way of getting it back?

If you mean photos and videos that you took with the iPad itself, no. You can't recover them without a backup. That is where the photos and videos from the camera roll are stored - in the backup.

  • HT1689 will photos be lost when iphone is restored after choosing to back up to my computer? I want to un-jailbreak my phone so that I can update the iOS.

I want to restore and un-jailbreak my jailbroke iPhone 4 so that I can update my iOS.  When I open iTunes with my iPhone connected to my PC and click on restore, I choose "back up to this computer" and get a message stating all purchases from iTunes will be lost and have to be repurchased.  Is this true?  Also, would all my purchased apps be lost as well?  What about my bookmarks, downloaded Youtube videos, contacts, email accounts, etc.?

Well since you JB your phone it is against the forum term of service to provide any assistance.  Try using google.

  • IPhone data lost during update using friend's pc.

    Hello
My g/f has an iPhone 3G which she has used a lot for 18 months and had lots of saved texts and photo’s etc, but she is not very good at backups and has lost everything when upgrading from the original software, (about 2.6) to the current 4 something. Very unfortunately and unwisely, this was not even done on her own computer, but on a friend’s.
She has her own desktop pc and uses iTunes but hardly ever connects the phone and always declines to update when she does connect. She last connected about 6 months ago.
On New Years Eve we were at a friend’s house and a knowledgeable sounding guest offered to update her phone on her friend’s computer. They have their own iTunes account on it.
We connected the phone up and it started updating via the iTunes program and after one or two hours the software and firmware update completed. The sync options were then presented and as the knowledgeable person had by then gone home we thought “Well, we don’t want to sync with anything on this computer, we will disconnect and sync later on g/f’s home computer.” (We are still not quite sure what syncing is although g/f thinks she has synced before from home)
As you have guessed, the software upgraded fine but phone has been wiped of all data, pics, iTunes downloaded, texts, contacts, notes, calendars.
The obvious problem in this case is that we used someone else’s pc. I have located the mobilesync backup folder on g/f’s own pc and it is empty.
Is there any hope that we can retrieve anything from our friend’s pc which we updated on? Would a folder have been created separately on their pc for my g/f’s phone?
I was not watching the pc the whole time it was updating and did not see everything that happened, but what I have established is that when I plugged her phone to her pc yesterday I got the warning message saying that the phone has been synced to another computer, (presumably the friend’s) and all data on the phone will be erased if I sync on this one (her one).
What I don’t know is whether this warning message had come up on New Years Eve on the friend’s computer while updating, and whether it was ignored.
We have been back to our friends but they are getting a bit fed up with us, I think they will put up with us using their pc one more time so this time we will have to know what we are doing. I have an external HD so I could maybe copy the iTune files from their pc and work on them from home later?
    With thanks

Well.... I guess based on the replies, I should consider that password manager info not being part of the backup is normal for all of us.
If not, maybe it's just one of these numerous glitches and bugs I have since I own a blackberry.

  • Connection Lost during update::solutions

I don't want to give you guys false hopes and tell you that this is a surely working fix. Just try these and if none worked, keep digging. If you have more "solutions" add them here.
To all who have this issue, I have tried to fix it since last year by trying to update my N86. Then last night, when Belle was rolled out, I had it again while trying to update my N8. Same issue, but I fixed it. I've been trying for 8 hours and these are some of the solutions suggested on the web (but none worked for me):
    > wait for 15 minutes (I've waited for 30, nothing happens. Stop wasting your time and proceed!)
    > remove sim/memory card
    > connect with Mass Storage mode
    > soft reset (also suggested were hard reset, but I think that is best left as a last resort)
    > turn off your firewall, and possibly even your security software
    > get the latest Suite (I know Nokia keeps repeating this, but I can't believe how many people just ignore this even if they have the older versions)
    > delete the 20019119 (not sure) folder in Mass Storage drive under 'private' folder
    > restart your computer (worked for some)
    > run Nokia Suite as administrator (worked for some)
    > redownload the firmware by going to C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Nokia Suite\.....\Variants\ and rename the device folder (eg. RM-596 to RM-596elop), Nokia Suite will redownload the firmware and waste more of your time. Go grab a drink. Preferably coffee, to keep you awake.
    > do an online scan for malware/trojan/whatever-not-good, and clean them
Those are the "solutions" I've tried, and failed to see any results. Lastly, THIS WORKED FOR ME.
    USE ANOTHER COMPUTER.
or try using another user account and guest account for those who don't have another computer.
Yes, that's it. Funny right? Turns out Windows can mess things up but puts the blame on Nokia phones. Just get another computer, don't sync with it, but just let it back up. If you have a slow connection to redownload the firmware, then just go to the said directory above to copy the file into the new computer. Nokia will detect it (make sure it's in the same folder as in the original computer) and proceed. Good luck to you all!
*Issue on security code during installation is that Nokia Suite will say do not touch your phone even if it asks for language selection or security code. It just asks to enter PIN when phone asks for it. But I've noticed after the first reboot, the second reboot won't proceed until you enter your security code! If you just leave it, it wouldn't reboot the second time. That's the only issue I have during installation. Hope you guys get it!

Finally, I got it to work!
Read the tip from designrs187, didn't read the addition at first, so I went to the hardware section on the control panel, clicked on 'Nokia USB phone parent' and told Windows to look for updates. It updated the driver after which installation of the update finally started!
Guess it does the same as the tip I intended to use.
Man, I hate this Nokia BS!

  • Help me pictures lost during update

i just tried to update my phone and i have nothing from after December. i am very disappointed i cried because of the pictures i have lost. icloud only restored i tto December saying that was the last time i backed it up, which is wrong ihave done it multiple times. i hate apple i want my freaking pictures back

My first step if I were you and had such important pix, would be to get a USB microSD adapter, and get those pix off the card onto your PC. The adapters are inexpensive and this may save your marriage!
Then, once your a** is covered, go to Options > Device > Storage. Uncheck "Enable compression". Make sure "Media card support" is checked. Save. Then go to the menu and select "Safely remove media card". Pull the card out. Do a battery pull (with device on, remove the battery, wait 1 minute, replace it and wait for it to reboot. Then reinsert the card. It should now be recognized.
Note that this is an overconservative process. Others have dealt with the same issue with fewer steps. I've decided on this process after dealing with the same issue for 5 users.
*** Whatever you do, don't continue to "repair" the card in your BB unless you want to risk degrading or losing your newborn's pix. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's how a user I know lost a number of important pix.
Hope this helps. Please let us know how it works out. By the way - congrats on the newborn! ~ecm

  • Ipod will not restore crashed during update

ipod crashed on update and will not work. it said to do a restore but I have tryed 2 times and both times the restore didn't work

I just did the install of 2.0.02 last and I had one dickens of a time restoring my library. Here is what happened to me. Right before doing the update it tells you that all of your music, videos etc.. will be removed from the Ipod Touch once the update is done installing. So I found a DVD and burned my library to it. Then I went ahead and did the install. It clean my Ipod Touch clean, but my iTunes library was still intact so I thought all will have to do is resync it but that didn't work. I tried and tried. I disconnected my external HD. Oh yeah by the way this is a new computer that I just bought and last night was the first time I used iTunes on it so I had to populate my library using iGadget.
Anyway, I realized that I didn't have manually manage my iTunes library unchecked I unchecked it and it began to sync the back up copy I had of my library. Did either of you back up your library before installing 2.02? Do you have a place where most of your music is stored outside of iTunes? You cannot have Manually manage library checked it won't restore if you do. Be aware though 96% of my cover art was gone with this restore. How annoying. I don't know if this is the information you were looking for but I hope I have been able to shed some light on the issue.

  • 3.0.04.37: All connections lost during update

    Hello out there,
I just updated SQL Developer from EA4 to Production and lost all my connections. Luckily I could start EA4 and export my connections. These could then be imported into 3.0.04.37, so this is not a great issue, but you should be aware of this trap.
I'm using Windows XP SP3 with the JDK shipped with SQL Developer. I renamed the SQL Developer directory before extracting the new one.

It seems that some of the preferences did not survive the upgrade too.
The NLS-Settings seem to be okay, but my switched Hotkeys (F6 for explain and F10 for autotrace) are not.
I set it up that way because it was the default in one of the early versions (I think it was 1.2 or so) and I got used to it this way. After upgrade form EA4 (which imported all preferences correctly), F6 called autotrace and I had to correct this manually.

  • Core applications lost during update!

    hello
i hope someone can help with this, it's a bit of a meltdown issue.
using the desktop manager for Mac, i updated my Bold 9000 from device software 4.6 to 5.0. it said the software had installed successfully - but now MemoPad, Calendar, Tasks, Files, Ringtones, the Pictures folder, Voice Notes, Videos all fail to load.
they all produce an error message that begins 'Error starting net_rim_bb... ... not found.' oh, and when i try to use the camera, it hangs the device. any ideas? is there a component missing?
    thanks!

    Hi cbourn,
Try doing a clean reload of your device software using this KB article. http://bbry.lv/9ROTXR
Test to make sure any previously missing applications are present and can be opened correctly, then restore the backup file you created when upgrading to device software 5.0

  • Purchase lost during update?

I was given an iTunes gift from a friend of mine, the first episode of Battlestar Galactica. When I went to redeem my gift, an error message told me that I had to download iTunes 7 in order for the gift to work, so I clicked the 'download now' button it offered. Well, I now have iTunes 7 downloaded, but I can't find my gift anywhere, though the iTunes store says I've already redeemed the code.
    What can I do?

When logged onto my account in the store it lists the item as being purchased, but I can't seem to find it anywhere on my computer. it is not under 'purchases' on the iTunes menu, and I didn't get any results when I searched for it, either.

  • Can I retrieve photos that disappeared during sync?

My recent photos were lost during a sync. When I attempted to sync a message popped up telling me I needed to either 1) add my iphone as a new device or 2) revert to most recent sync from a couple months back. The reason given had something to do with OS I think.
It was late & I'd had a glass of wine so I should have stopped but I didn't.  I knew I didn't have a new device so I chose the old sync.  When the sync was complete I checked for recent app purchases, found they were there & assumed all was well.
This morning I noticed all my recent photos were missing. Some of these are special to me & I'd really like them back.
Are they retrievable, or are they hidden somewhere I haven't looked? I sync to a pc laptop handed down from my son; there's lots of his stuff left behind where things might hide.

They should be in your Photos app in the Camera Roll.

  • Iphoto upgrade it says your photos will not be readable following update. Will my photos be lost?

Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. Some may be on the cloud but how can I save them? I haven't backed anything up and can't open iphoto to try. I/ve copied it onto my desktop but can't open that either!
Please help a t otal idiot!

Before you do anything else make a backup of your iPhoto library. Disk drives do fail regularly, and one day all your photos will be gone for sure, if you do not keep copies on a different drive.
You can simply drag theiPhoto library from your Pictures folder to a different disk to create a backup copy.
iphoto upgrade it says your photos will not be readable following update. Will my photos be lost?
You misunderstood the warning.  When you use a new version of iPhoto with yiur iPhoto library, the older iPhoto version will no longer bea ble to read the library, but naturally, the new version you are using now, will be able to show your photos.
So proceed  with the update - that is a routine warning, and is necessary, to be able to use your iPhoto library with the new version of iPhoto.
