Will PSE 9 use my Bridge (CS4) from PSE 8?

I've decided to move to PSE 9 from PSE 8.
1)  will 9 still use the same Bridge (CS4) that came with 8?  My friend who has a PC (I have Mac) did not get Bridge with her 8 and I did.  Why is that?
2)  will I have an updated version of Adobe Raw or will it be the same one from 8?

Yes, you can still use Bridge. It should automatically choose PSE 9 for any file types you had set to open in PSE 8.
However, you can't update camera raw for bridge anymore, not past ACR 5.7, so if you get a new camera model those raw files will not show thumbnails in bridge and can't be converted by the bridge version of the raw converter.
Ever since PSE 3, the windows version came with Organizer (which used to be Photoshop Album before it was grafted into PSE). Due to the difficulties of porting it over to the mac, it's taken them a while to get it into the mac version.

  • Raw images do not show up in Bridge CS4 for PSE 8 for Mac

I just downloaded PSE 8 for Mac and my raw files no longer show as thumbnails.  I can open them in Elements, but the image is blank in Bridge.  These same images were fine in CS3 (PSE 6 for Mac).  I have downloaded and installed the new Camera Raw 5.6 plug-in but that didn't work.  Any suggestions?  Thank you!

You have to update bridge separately from PSE, and bridge ships with a pretty old version of ACR. Just go to Help>Updates in bridge and it will update itself for you.

  • PSE 8 Photoshop Bridge vs. PSE 9 Organizer

I was using PSE 8 for Mac then I loaded PSE 9.  The latter is dual platform (good whether one uses Mac or Windows).  However, I was disappointed to find that Photoshop Bridge was replaced by Organizer.  After working with the Organizer, I realize that I prefer PS Bridge.  How can I keep PSE 9 but substitute Bridge for Organizer?
    Thanks

Don't use the welcome screen. Go into the PSE 9 folder in applications and launch the editor directly, by using this file instead:
then create dock icons for the editor and for Bridge.  Once a program is open, click its dock icon and choose More Options>Keep in Dock.
To launch bridge now, you'll click the dock icon instead of clicking in the PSE window. That's all. And file formats that you had set bridge to open in PSE will now automatically open in PSE 9 rather than PSE 8. If for some reason that doesn't happen, go to Bridge>Preferences>File Type Associations and change the ones that don't.

  • PSE 10, Adobe Bridge

I installed PSE 10 on my Mac, left PSE 9 installed, and removed PSE 8. Apparently PSE 8 and Bridge CS4 are not separate programs - although they appear separate to the user.  I had no intention of removing Bridge as it has been a valuable and highly used program for me. So I re-installed PSE 8, and Bridge again reappeared.
Now I can process Canon CR2 files in either PSE 8 or 10, but Bridge will not display the CR2 thumbnails. How do I get Bridge CS4 back to displaying CR2 file thumbnails?
The new support program, Organizer, does not replace the function of Bridge. For me Organizer is of little value, as my 100,000 digital files are alrady in indexed folders. I need the Bridge function as the front-end file viewer and support for PSE 10.

Go to Help>Updates in Bridge to update it as far as you can go, but that's going to be several versions of ACR back. That's the one disadvantage to continuing to use Bridge--Adobe cuts off bridge updates as soon as a new version of PS comes out, so you're stuck back at ACR 5.7, with no support for more recent cameras. If you can't get bridge to update itself, you can do a manual update from here:

  • Why not use Bridge CS4 with PsCS3?

I will post this on both the Bridge and Ps User-to-User forums as it applies to both.
I have PsCS3 and PsCS4 installed side by side in the default folders assigned by Adobe but have shifted my Bridge CS4 Cache (containing all the thumbnails and previews) from C:Documents and Settings\etc to a subfolder within My Documents, which I had previously moved to my F: drive - my main data drive.
I have found Bridge CS4 to be much more stable than Bridge CS3. Additionally, Bridge CS4 has certain features which make it more attractive and easier to use than Bridge CS3. I want to use Bridge CS4 in conjunction with PsCS3 until Adobe has sorted out the problems with PsCS4 - which at the moment is simply unuseable on my rather old and humble system.
On my system, I seem to be able to use Bridge CS4 with PsCS3 without any problems detected so far. I even have things set up such that any JPEG, TIFF or PSD file double clicked within Bridge CS4 or within Windows Explorer (Win XP Pro SP3) automatically opens the file in PsCS3 and not PsCS4 (provided, of course, that PsCS4 is not itself already running). Furthermore, even with PsCS3 running beside Bridge CS4, from within Bridge CS4 I can open any RAW, JPEG or TIFF file in Camera Raw 5.1 and use its new features (Adjustment Brush, Graduated Filter, extra vignetting capabilities, etcetera) which were not available in the last release of Camera Raw (4.6 I think) associated with PsCS3. The only problem comes when trying to open edits made in Camera Raw 5.1 in PsCS3 using the "Open Image" button in ACR - it does nothing/won't work, this is, it won't open the image with the ACR adjustments in PsCS3. That's not a big deal for me - as I am currently not doing any work within ACR (any version) and if I needed to I could simply save the ACR edits and then open the files in PsCS4, save the files as PSDs and then open them in PsCS3 to finalise them there.
Has anyone else had a similar experience, or does anyone else know of any reason(s) why I should not continue to use this workflow, at least in the short term?

I've been away. Thanks John, Bart and Buko for your responses. Think you misunderstood my post Bart, but it does not matter now. John got the correct message. Buko: of course CS3 cannot use ACR 5.x - that was implicit in my post.

  • Batch edit date & time in PSE 8 Mac/Bridge

OK, maybe it's jet lag. I uploaded all my vacation photos, and realized I had forgotten to adjust camera date/timezone. I remember that earlier versions of PSE Windows had the ability to batch adjust the date/time shot, but I can't find it in Bridge CS4 or PSE 8 Mac. I really don't want to do it manually for a few hundred photos. Is the capability hiding in there somewhere? thx

Thanks, Barbara. One of the utilities you mentioned -- PhotoInfo -- does have a very easy batch mode for date/time change. And, of course, so does iPhoto.
Unfortunately, they both run afoul of another detail: there are multiple date/time stamps stored in a JPG. iPhoto and PhotoInfo both read/write the CreateDate XMP metadata field, but Bridge and PSE appear to base "Date Created" on the value stored in the DateTimeOriginal EXIF field. I haven't tried GraphicConverter yet, nor EXIFtool, which definitely handles all timestamps but is command-line only. I have some tools on the Windows side that I'll try first.

  • Bridge CS4 and Nikon 7100 raw files

Well, I use normally Bridge CS4 (that was included in Elements 8) to organize my pics and to edit or open in camera raw of Elements 11. I normaly shot in raw format with my Nikon d90. Now I shoted some pics with the new Nikon D7100 and I can't use Bridge CS4. I tried to update but Bridge doesn't work. So now I'm obliged to use Elements 11 organiser. Any possibiity to update Bridge CS4?

Adobe products use Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) in various ways.  Adobe does not work at, or promise, ACR will work in older or legacy versions of anything.  Your 7100 is a brand new model and included in ACR 7.4 and 8.0.  Whatever Adobe products you use will have to be upgraded to the latest ACR.  With PSE and organizer 11, you have to install it and upgrade with Help > Updates to get 7.4.
It amazes me that people will invest so much in a new camera and its new features without giving any thought to the software they use to support the new camera and features.

  • Slide show transition in Bridge CS4 not working

Putting together slideshows in Bridge CS4 I can not get the slide transition to work, no matter what timing I set for 'duration.'
I have tried opening it in several different browsers, but no dice.  Also my slides are jpgs at 72 dpi - so, rather small.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Bridge CS4 Search Not Displaying NEF Files + Keyword Problems

Hello, I am hoping someone can be of service to peculiar problem that apparently nobody else has had.
I am running Adobe Bridge CS4 (came bundled with Photoshop Elements 8) on a 2009 24 inch iMac with 4GB RAM and a 2.6mHz processor running Snow Leopard v10.6.2.
I use Adobe Bridge CS4 to add Keywords to all my photos and edit 14 bit Nikon NEF RAW files. I write the keywords to an .XMP sidecar
    file.
Two days I ago I changed something in Preferences->Metadata and the next time I started Bridge CS4 and used the loupe tool on a NEF
file, it took longer than usual for the preview to come up and when it did, it was at 200% magnification instead of 100%. Once the loupe preview showed up, the NEF file had some sort of processing applied to it (it became more contrasted.) This was all within Bridge ant NOT Adobe Camera Raw. I quit the program and the next time I started Bridge, it crashed upon using the loupe tool. I looked up help on Adobe's website and it appeared I had corrupted preferences. Per Adobe's instructions I option clicked at Bridge startup to delete the preferences and purge the cache.
Everything appeared to be normal until today when I searched for a keyword and got 36 random results when I know I have hundreds of
photos tagged with that particular keyword. I started typing in other keywords and getting the same sort of results- very limited numbers of photos I have hundreds of. I always include all subfolders in all searches and used every search method available through Bridge to no avail. The searches always came up with a fraction of the photos I actually have tagged.
I then verified and repaired all disk permissions from the operating system installation CD and Bridge started returning results as
usual. However, when I clicked on an individual file in the Content pane, some of my Keywords started to appear in italics below the rest of my Keyword tree. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to why some images will return the Keywords normally and others in italics. Also, sometime the italicized keyword tree will include keywords I edited due to typos and thus no longer existing my normal Keyword tree. I gave the "Make Persistent" command a try. It converts the italics to regular case, but it also doubles the tag so I now have two of that tag (one in the normal keyword tree, and the now converted italics keyword tree.)
Now I'm noticing that all my search results are not including NEF files; just JPEG and the occasional DNG file that I made through Adobe Camera RAW. I'm not sure if this has been the case throughout my problem or if I just noticed it late.
Regarding not displaying NEF files in searches, it appears that it will default to displaying JPEG if it has the option because as of lately I have only been shooting RAW and some of those files are showing up in the still-wonky searches (still displaying random or no photos of keywords.) However, if I manually navigate to a file, I can open and edit NEF files with no problem, they just don't display in any search modes.
Here's two short videos of what happens when I navigate a folder with NEF files by manually searching:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDjUDZzULKQ
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y9HkDK7DCs
When I click on a NEF file, the one ahead of it in Content view processes into a more contrasty image and the loupe tool previews jump between 100% and 400% and then change to 100% when dragged or they just process themselves right then and there.

I am running Adobe Bridge CS4 (came bundled with Photoshop Elements 8) on a 2009 24 inch iMac with 4GB RAM and a 2.6mHz processor running Snow Leopard v10.6.2.
Snow Leopard and Bridge CS4 do have some issues. Some have no problems and others have much problems I'm afraid.
I use Adobe Bridge CS4 to add Keywords to all my photos and edit 14 bit Nikon NEF RAW files. I write the keywords to an .XMP sidecar file.
To my knowledge the keywords are written into the XMP Metadata that is saved in the IPTC section of file itself, the XMP data in the sidecar file contain the changes you made in ACR. In other words, the keywords you have added should still be there.
Also see this Knowledge Base article about Keywords:

Changes metadata in prefs only affects the visability of the fields in the metadata panel. put or deselect a checkmark in front of an option will let you see or not see the field in this panel, the actual data and fields ar still in the file.
it was at 200% magnification instead of 100%. Once the loupe preview showed up, the NEF file had some sort of processing applied to it (it became more contrasted.) This was all within Bridge ant NOT Adobe Camera Raw.
You can change the magnification for the loupe to 100 / 200 / 400 and 800 % using the scrollwheel or with loupe active the + and - keys. Bridge shows the settings that you made in ACR. If you have changed the default Camera Raw setting it will also change the thumbs for this file. A thumbs needs some time to be cached. First it shows with a black border around, when first cached it shows the embedded preview and in the second round it renders the ACR settings and High Quality preview (if you have not disabled this setting). Caching needs some time.

Maybe you need to let the indexing in find do its work again but it might also be a snow leopard issue. Try an other app (Digital Asset Management like Expresion Media or  Portfolio) to check about the keywording and find. You can use a trial version for several days. You have several options to use find keywords. In the panel itself, in the filterpanel uner the keyword tab, when clicking on a visible keyword it only shows the files with that keyword or in the menu Edit / find (shortcut cmd + F) explore the options in this menu and also choose include non indexed and let Bridge start to index your files again.
However, when I clicked on an individual file in the Content pane, some of my Keywords started to appear in italics below the rest of my Keyword tree. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to why some images will return the Keywords normally and others in italics. Don't know about that.

As you can see the black border around some file that disappear after a while or when you select them they have not been cached. You used purge cache so most of your earlier cached results are gone and need to rebuild.

  • Adobe Bridge CS4 causes Blue Screen of Death! Help?

    Can anyone help?
I keep getting a Blue Screen of Death every so often when I am using Adobe Bridge CS4 and another program, either Photoshop or Bryce or Cinema4D.
When I have been working in the other program for a while and attempt to return to Bridge, the instant I click on the bridge icon in the low taskbar, the PC blue screens and everything dies instantly with no time to read the blue screen or to take a photo of it, never mind do anything useful like save the file I was working on.
I have winXP Pro and an NVidia Ge Force 8800 GTS graphics card. (both are up to date)
I recently got the Adobe updates but there wasn't one for Bridge.
Buckets full of memory: 289GB free on the C drive and I store most (work) things on my F drive which is a terrabyte with 315 gigs free.
Um.... dunno what else to say.
    Except:  HELP!!!

Well, I don't find that the magnifying glass ability is all that much help to me as often what you see in that magnified area is too blurry to be of any use - my eyes aren't wonderful with small things (including small text - I therefore have the text on all the machines I use set to quite large, browser included) so I like large thumbnails too, and usually I find that the big thumbnails are sufficient for me to find what I want.
So that's not been the cause of my BSOD.
By the way what's "ralentize"?  Is it like "pixilate"?
On the BSOD - it sounds to me that there can be more than one cause in Bridge of the BSOD, so it sounds as if Bridge CS4 - is just not stable, period.
The fact that Bridge in CS3 and CS2 worked just fine is a good indicator of this, (to me anyway) as most people seem to be saying so.
I wouldn't like to rely on NVidia's next update fixing this, as I've already updated NVidia once since this began and it didn't help, I now hear that there's now another update out for the NVidia Ge Force 8800 GTS (which is what I have in my PC), so I will be updating that when I get back, but as the last update didn't fix it, I doubt if this one will either, I think it's something that Adobe will have to sort out, but I doubt if they will.
So it looks like those of us with that graphics card are just left without being able to use Bridge properly - if at all.
I've given up on it on my PC and so I'm refusing to use it on my Laptop either, since it would be silly to get so used to it that I can't work without it.
I have tried using Irfanview, but it's functionalitly is comparably limited.  So I'm looking out for something else.
I don't at the moment have PhotoshopCS4 on the laptop and as I left the box with the program in it in my room at Uni I can't install it on the laptop with its different Graphics card (although still an NVidia it's a Ge Force Go 6800, not the 8800 Gts), until I get back next week... not that I really want to, if it's just going to crash the laptop like it does the PC.
I do have Corel's Paintshop Pro Photo X2 on here, but I don't use it anything like as much as I do Photoshop, but at least the Bridge or Browser (they call it "Organiser") on that doesn't kill the entire computer, although it does take up room on the screen instead of opening as a whole new window.
Also PaintShopPro does not save an inferior version of the image when saving as BMP, which I've noticed does now happen with Photoshop CS4 (when comparing .psd or pspimage with bmp).
    emirkill,
I will also try the "enable software rendering" when I get back, that you've used, in case that helps.

  • Bridge CS4 5D Mark ii RAW preview.

I can't preview Raw thumbnails in Bridge cs4 from my 5d mark ii. I can open them but not preview them.  I installed plugin 5.3 update in the right place but no cigar. A year ago I had the same problem with another computer and I adjusted a slider which corrected everything.  I'm on a Mac os 10.8. Please help.

If there are no images on the hard-drive, do you mean you are you viewing old images off an external drive, then, or perhaps off the camera’s memory card in a card reader?
To simplify things, try using Finder to copy a brand-new 5D.2 image from a memory card to a newly created folder on your internal hard-drive and then look at it with Bridge and see what happens.  Also try flipping to high-quality thumbnails in Bridge.
Otherwise, someone with Mac experience may have to chime in, to confirm if a Mac version of Bridge has its own version of Camera Raw separate from Photoshop, with the possibility of only the PS one has been updated, somehow.  You could do a search of your entire hard-drive and see how many Camera Raw plug-ins you find and if their timestamps all match the most recent one you updated.   You could also do an Adobe Plug-Ins within Photoshop and see if there is more than one instance listed.  This happens if a new ACR is put into the wrong folder and PS still finds it during the initial plug-in scan.
If Adobe has a fix, then someone here likely knows what it is.
To confirm, your subject says RAW Preview, but you’re not able to see either thumbnails or the larger one-at-a-time previews, and the only thing that seems to work is when you choose Open in Camera Raw from w/in Bridge, you can see it and work with it.

  • Bridge CS4 Lags When opening File:

    Hello folks,
I am a system administrator for the Savannah College of Art and Design.  We are using Active Directory and have about 600 seats of CS4 installed on our PC's.  The problem is, when a user (netuser or local admin) tries to open a file in Adobe Bridge, Bridge lags for a ridicoulously long time (1-2 minutes) before opeing the file.  After the initial lag, all file browzing resumes as normal.  However, this lag happens every time Bridge is reopened.  I have tried clearing the Adobe cache and preferences and disabling all the startup services as instructed in the troubleshooting section, but the problem is still present.  Oddly enough, I found that unplugging the network cable from the PC fixes the problem and Bridge is just as snappy as it should be.
My question is, why is our internet connection causing Bridge to lag so much and how can we resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    - Ben

    Hello again Curt,
We currently do not have any network printers connected to our computers.  Bridge is definitely searching for something on the network, but I have no idea what that is.  I have tried looking for possible network queries that Bridge may be getting stuck on, but I have not been able to find anything conclusive.  Pretty much everything I've found suggests clearing the cache, resetting the preferences or disabling startup services.  I've tried all these things but Bridge is still running like molasses on our computers.  As per your last suggestion, I've also tried making the cache larger, but the problem still occurs.  Besides, that shouldn't be a problem in the first place because we don't have very many pictures on these computers.  I think the problem is that it's looking in places it shouldn't be for photos that probably don't even exist.
If there is anyone out there who knows how to disable Bridge CS4 from searching certain network locations, or what it queries on the network I'd greatly appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks,
    Ben

  • Adobe Bridge CS4

I have MacBook Pro(10.6.2) and recently I upload Adobe Master Collection CS4. The problem is when I switch on my computer and if Adobe Bridge CS4 is in dock it's starting for an activated automatically (bounce off on the dock) when I quit Adobe Bridge CS4 from dock and restart my computer it is starting for activated automatically again and it creates a file into the trash as 'recovered file'. Could you please explain me what is the problem? and how can I solve it?
    Thank you.

    Kagan
Go to Bridge preferences/Advanced and uncheck Open at login. This is probably the cause.
If this doesn't work, check your account login items. If Bridge is there delete it.
If neither of these suggestions work report back.

  • Can't open raw files in Adobe Bridge CS4

First of all, I use a macbook pro that runs on Leopard.  My camera is 5d Mark ii.  I have photoshop elements 8 for mac, but I love to use Adobe Bridge CS4 for basic editing.  Here is my problem, it won't let me open raw mode to edit.  I have tried the updates photoshop gives on their site, but no luck.  I still can't open them.  Please help me!

If you just go to Help>Updates, Bridge should take care of this for you, unless you've managed to get multiple copies of the plug-in into the folder. If you manually installed things, check to see that there is only one plug-in there, then let Bridge do it for you.
