Will RAM from a 2010 Mac mini work with a late 2012 Mac mini?

I have two Mac minis. One is from mid 2010 and the other one is from late 2012. I am wondering if the memory modules are interchangeble.

No
The 2010 uses PC3-8500 1066 MHz modules and the 2012 uses PC3-12800 1600 MHz modules.

  • RAM Compatibility with the Late 2012 Mac Mini Core i7 Model (MD388LL/A)

    Hi,
I ordered a Mac Mini for academic use and so far I have used this thing for 2 days but the problem is I usually have a lot of programs like SPSS, Excel, and Safari open at once to multitask and the 4 GB RAM isn't cutting it. I've had one instance where 3.9 GB of my RAM was put into use and I think a major culprit of the problem is that it runs on integrated graphics which takes RAM away.
So I ordered myself some G.Skill SO-dimm RAM from newegg (thinking it would be compatible with the Mac Mini since it was 204-pin, 1600 Mhz, non-buffered or ECC memory):
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231580
Upon reading the reviews, I found that 2-3 people had issues with their Mac Minis freezing up with the RAM stick (g.skill claims to have no tested this RAM for Mac, but the one specifically for RAM was $20 more expensive), while others say it runs fine on their Macs.
Should this work? My hope is the people who froze up got bad sticks.

    Maximum Memory
    16 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Only use RAM meeting the above specs. Stay away from memory commonly used in PCs like GSkill. Buy your memory from OWC or DataMem, although many here also recommend using Crucial. I would not buy memory from NewEgg because almost all of their products are geared to the non-Mac market and tend to be troublesome in Macs.

  • HT1619 Does this work with iMac Late 2012?

I tried this multiple times and I'm still not sure if it works. Could someone please help me? Thanks.

According to Wikipedia (not the best source I know) it is no longer supported on the latest iMacs. Shame, I sometimes prefer the simplicity of the little remote over the iPhone remote.

  • My late 2012 mac mini boots slow with new ssd drive

So here is the situation.  I purchased a 128gb ssd drive, installed it a usb enclosure, formatted it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), cloned it with carbon copy cloner 3,   used the option key during boot up and selected the ssd drive and it booted my mac mini and it functioned perfectly.  I than tested it for dozens of reboots and it worked fine.  I then took apart my mac mini and removed the original hard drive and installed the new ssd drive.  When I boot to the ssd drive it still takes 47 to 53 seconds just like the old drive.  Aren't ssd drives supposed to be a lot faster?
My solution or tip is as follows; The reason it takes so long to boot is because the mac mini doesn't know you replaced the old drive and it is looking for it during the boot process.  Finally it can't find the drive so it boots to the ssd drive.  All you have to do to correct this is click on "system preferences", select and click on "startup disk" and select your ssd drive and click on "restart".  After these steps your mac mini will now boot in about 17 seconds.  Issues solved.

Yes, my solution fixed the issue.  I went from a 47 to 53 second boot time to a 17 second boot time.  The ssd drive is significantly faster than the original drive that came with my late 2012 mac-mini.   This is my first post and I wasn't sure how to post this as a tip.  I have another tip regarding usb 3.0 hubs.

  • Fios Quantum not working with Late 2012 Mac Mini

A new router came out from Verizon in late 2014 so I went ahead and upgraded for $150.  After connecting 3 iPhones, an iPad, and 2 Windows laptops successfully I discovered that my Late 2012 Mac Mini would not work.
Found a random blog post about channel settings, and after some tinkering got it to work.  Basically you need to change the channel settings from Auto to alternate values.  The blog I found said to use 1,6, or 11 for 2.4ghz and a low value for 5ghz.  I tried a few and ended up with channel 6 and 40 as a working pair.  Thought I would share.

I thought about your dilemma while ASC was down, that's good news your welcome!
I spent some of the time replacing the 320GB 5400rpm HD in my 2010 Mac Mini with a 500GB Hitachi Travelstar 7200rpm HD. Then moved forward by Restoring Mountain Lion onto it from an External HD, instead of Snow Leopard from the original 5400rpm drive. I really prefer to keep my music and photos on the Internal HD and so I couldn't justify the cost of a larger SSD.
So basically I flip flopped and now running Mountain Lion on a larger/slightly faster Internal HD and Snow Leopard from a FireWire External HD when needed.

  • Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

My experience with upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion is that the OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless will print just fine, although it seems to take a little longer to find the printer on the network. My scan function however locks up and will not work. This really is an annoyance, though, since I have VueScan, which works fine with Lion.
Hopefully, Apple and HP will not orphan the OS native scanning feature for HP multifunction printers.

  • How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I downloaded Firefox 4 and tried to launch it. The message said that Firefox will not work with this version of Mac OX. Please advise.

I downloaded Firefox 4 and installed it. When I tried to launch it, a message came up saying that Firefox will not work with this version of Mac OSX. Now I have no Firefox. How can I get Firefox 3.6 back on my Mac? How can I make Firefox 4.0 work? Please advise.

Thanks for the reply so quickly! Is the tenfourfox going to be be just as safe and as high of quality as the Firefox 4? Also since Mozilla's website says, "Firefox 3.6.x will be maintained with security and stability updates for a short amount of time. All users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 4" does that mean if I go back to 3.6 there will be security and stability issues after a "short amount of time"?

  • Will Final Cut Pro 4.5 still work if I upgrade to Mac OS X v10.5.4?

Will Final Cut Pro 4.5 still work if I upgrade to Mac OS X v10.5.4?

I'm with Jon on this one. I know someone who uses FCP 5.0 on a MacBook Pro, he has all sorts of wierd issues including:
Projects he has created throwing up an error message "Unreadable on this machine" when re-opened.
Projects losing and refusing to connect to render files.
Dissolves simply not working -this is not to do with lack of handles, it just happens.
LiveType and FCP's own title generator files not automatically compositing.
Lots of kernel panics and unexpected quits.
These might not happen all the time, but always crop up at the worst possible moment.
I can move his project files and media to my setup and everything works.

    Hello SavannahSweetie,
I was looking into the issue you are desribing, and found a great article for troubleshooting wifi connections with iOS devices. It's called iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections and can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398.
Start with this section, and work your way down if needed.
    Basic troubleshooting
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and then on again.
Verify that you are in range of your Wi-Fi router or base station.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and Cable/DSL modem are connected to power and turned on.
Check whether other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For AirPort Base Stations, refer to this article for information about firmware updates. For third-party Wi-Fi routers, check the manufacturer's website for details on updating your firmware.
Restart your iOS deviceHold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
    All the best,
    Sterling
