Can I upgrade a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo iMac running Leopard OS X 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.3?
Yes this machine will run 10.6 with no problem
Sadly it will not be able to run 10.7 in the future though. -
I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Would like to upgrade to Lion but it requires a minimum of Intel Core 2 Duo. Can I get what I need or do I have to buy new MacBok Pro?
I also have a core duo MBP with Snow Leopard and it runs perfectly. There are very few things it cannot do as compared to the faster, newer MBPs, but that is attributable to the CPU, not the OS. There are some who view Lion as downgrade rather than as an improvement. If there are important applications that reqire a fast CPU or Lion features that you find essential, by all means get a new MBP.
I have an aphorism: Obsolescence is more often a perception rather than a reality. Besides the silver keys look much classier than the black ones.

Will iCloud work when iMac (1.83 GHz. Intel Core Duo) is running Mac OS X 10.6.8 with 4th gen. iPod touch (iOS 6) because unable to upgrade to Lion due to processor's inablit to meet Apple's specifications for Lion? My family had three iPod touch (iSO 6) devices and currently use iClou, but set it up with a Macbook Air using Lion- but yesterday it died. Is there any way to retain the use of oPod touh devices, iTunes purchases, and iCloud services (and the huge amount of money spent on the) if not able to use the Macbook Air? I know the iMac is "old" but do not have thousands of dollars to purchase new computer at this time.
10.7.2 or later is required to use iCloud on the computer. Your iPod Touch, however, would have full use of iCloud.

Things to consider when moving from Motorola Dual G5 to Intel Core Duo G5
OK dear forum readers,
I am planning on upgrading my PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0 to the Intel Core Duo platform. I have no idea where to start. So I am looking for suggestions/short list of what I need to do once I have both computers sitting next to each other. Do I need a cable? Do I need to buy additional software? Just as an FYI I do not backup to .Mac or anything. Though I do regularly do a PSyncX backup to an external hard-drive.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Max
Power MAC G5 Dual 2.0, 30" ACD, RADEON X8000XT card Mac OS X (10.4.4) I also have a IMAC G5You can totally bring your Intel to its knees if you merge PPC code, files, caches and such over.
CoreDuo sounds like iMac (not Mac Pro) so you can't just pull the drive and plug it in. There are SATA cases with FW and SATA interface of course. If you are selling the G5, I'd keep the drive and keep my files. I'd use your backup drive and Migration Assistant .... very caustiously... and reinstall applications.
Cache folders, drivers, anything that goes into the top level Library and System/Library should not be reinstalled.
Not all programs that are PPC work under Rosetta.
MacIntouch and Macfixit have lists of what is compatible or is in UB native format. -
Please help.
Your macbook pro has a 32 bit processor and not a 64 bit processor?
If so, i believe photoshop cs5 is the newest photoshop version that will work on your Macbook Pro.
System requirements | Photoshop
You can get a 30 day trial trial version of photoshop cs5 from here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-product-downloads.html
Also, photoshop cs through cs4 should work as well, but cs3, cs4 and cs5 will run better since cs and cs2 require Rosetta and can be kinda slow at times. -
Macbook 2.0 intel core duo ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS HELP PLS
This all started last week. In an effort to be more economical, I decided to keep my macbook and not get a new one. The battery was not doing well...so i bought a new one. I purchased Leopard and tried to install it...it installed but after it just stayed stuck on the gray apple screen. I tried troubleshooting. I reinstalled Tiger that came with it and it had the same problems. Anyways...a couple days ago I tried to reinstall Tiger again and it started working. I have been having problems with the rainbow wheel coming up all the time...so I figured maybe the ram is bad. I ordered new ram from crucial. I got it today and installed it and now the macbook will not even power up. I followed the troubleshoot guidelines and even installed the old ram again nothing.
So, I'm stuck. Is the logic board again? I had it replaced like 7 months after getting the macbook and now it is out of warranty. Please help. ThanksMartin,
Since you say it worked to some degree but then not at all after installing new RAM and then after reinstalling the old RAM it would not even work as well as it had prior to the RAM installs, then it sounds like one possibility could be that the logic board is failing do to cracked circuit traces (caused by thermal cycling) and the removing and reinstalling the RAM exacerbated the problem.
The next thing I would try to do would be to cool down the computer to 50F or so and try it. Next try heating it up to 90F or so and try again. The temperature changes can affect a defective logic board. Not that this will solve your problem, but it can tend to validate the possibility of a defective board. -
The 15" power book had this:
Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-8500, DDR3 (non-ECC)
The 20" iMac has this:
Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
I'm not sure what the difference between DDR3 and DDR2 is. Any support would be great.DDR stands for Double Data Rate, the original DDR had a speed of 266MHz, double the rate of the previous memory standard of SDRAM which ran at 133MHz. DDR2 and then DDR3 are the successors of DDR. To avoid fitting the wrong type of module they use different memory slots and will only fit the one they were designed for, by way of slots cut in the memory boards at precise positions which correspond to notches in the memory slots.
If you want to know what memory will fit which computer I would go to the Crucial website and use their online Memory Advisor, put in the brand and model, it will tell you exactly which modules fit it and what kits (if any) Crucial have available for it.

Facebook u-tube video's will not play on my i-mac intel core duo osx?
In the past month or so, not really sure of exact timing, when in Face Book, U-Tube videos won't open.
FB asks me to downoad the new adobe flash player which I attempt, but it never seems to complete installation.
But when not in Face Book, the flash player works totally OK and plays U-Tubes.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
thanks,
Artieit s a bug in safari , actually all this because of apple revolutionary thinking

DVD Studio Pro 4 on Intel Core Duo works (but is unsupported)
Hi all,
Various threads have touched the subject, and I guess all Intel Mac owners are waiting for the Final Cut Studio universal binary version.
Just wanted to share this: I installed DVDSP version 4.0.2 on my new Intel iMac 20" 2gHz, and it works like it should. No problems what so ever.
Speed? Well I used to have a G4 iMac so obviously it's blazing fast nowWow that was quick
Yes it does, but I can't tell (of course). I created two DVDs, pretty simple work from m2V/AC3 source files except an intro clip which was DV. Encoded nicely. Created several menus from custom templates (3rd party), everything works like it used to.
The build and format went very fast compared to my old setup. -

Will lion run on Intel Core Duo?
Will Lion OS run on a 2GHz Intel Core Duo?
No. Lion will not run on an Intel Core Duo.
The hardware requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
I have a MBP with 2 GB of RAM which is running Lion quite happily.

Everytime I view videos on firefox, it keeps on blinking. The issue is not reproducible on Safari. My MacBook runs on intel core duo 32 bit with 1gb RAM
Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window (''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux) as follows:
#* In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#* In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
* [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
* [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you. -
Any discounts for trading in a old macbook intel core Duo
I was just wondering is there any trade in discount for a old white 13 inch macbook with a intel core duo processor. If there is a discount can it go towards a new computer?
Click here for information, or sell it to a third party.

HT1338 intel core duo / can't migrate to icloud?
Hi. I would like some help in clarifying please. I have an older Macbook with an Intel Core Duo running Snow Leopard. I can't upgrade to Lion. I have used my .mac account/Mobileme for years primarily for email purposes, idisk, and the gallery (I understand the idisk and gallery are being discontinued). I'm trying to understand whether I can migrate to icloud and/or whether I really need it. I don't have any other devices that I need to sync with. I've already copied my idisk onto my hard drive and I'm not too worried about the gallery because I have my photos and movies stored elsewhere.
Questions:
1. Do I need to migrate to icloud in order to keep my @mac and @me email addresses?
2. Will the @mac email address be discontinued after June 30 (assuming I've migrated to icloud)?
3. Is it physically possible for me to migrate to icloud if I am using Snow Leopard? If so, do I follow the steps as outlined on the main migration page (i.e. acknowledge that I'm using the required software)?
I believe there may be a workaround to #3 but am not sure if that's what I'm looking for. Thank you for your help.
DaveHi Dave,
Questions:
Answers:
1. Yes (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4597). MobileMe accounts must be migrated before the end of MobileMe otherwise they end along with the service.
2. No. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4597)
3. I haven't done it recently but yes.
-- You will need to update the mail server settings in your Mail program once the migration is complete as iCloud uses a different set of mail servers than MobileMe: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.
Cheers.

Satellite A550-14K: VT virtualization seems to be disabled
Hello I bought recently a A500-14K and intend to install Linux (done) and use the Xen virtualization. But it seems that the Xen virtualization is not feasable: the intel VT virtualization is not enabled. I used the "securable.exe" to verify that and
