Will RAM from my Macbook Pro work in iBook G4?

I just upgraded the RAM in my Macbook Pro 2.4 GHZ (removed two 1 GB cards and installed two 2GB cards). I now have two 1GB sticks of RAM (Samsung, came with the Macbook Pro) that are sitting here gathering dust. I have an iBook G4 1.2 GHZ that I would like to upgrade - can I use one of these 1GB Samsung sticks from the Macbook Pro in the iBook or are they incompatible?
Thank you!

Hi Adaklu,
I'm afraid the RAM from your MBP will not work in an iBook.

  • Will Mac Drivers From A Macbook Pro Work For A Macbook?

Hello everyone, been looking for an answer for this for awhile.
Im installing windows xp sp3 on many of our computers - an early 2008 Macbook pro, a 2009 Macbook, and a Brand New Imac 21.5 inch.
Unfortunately, i cannon find the box of the 2009 macbook - which means no install cd for drivers.
Will i be able to us any other of the driver cds (from the macbook pro or the imac) for the macbook (aluminum) or are each special for that computer? thanks!!!

Yes. Windows XP is not choosy. It will use any MacOS installer DVD that has the Boot Camp driver installer.
But for later versions of Windows like Vista and Windows 7, use the drivers on the Snow Leopard installer DVD. At only $29, Snow Leopard is a cheap solution as far as the drivers go but even better, SL should be on all recent Macs.

  • Can I put RAM from my MacBook Pro into my MacBook?

    Hi,
I just bought a 2.5GHz MBP, and I will be ordering 4GB of RAM from Crucial. We also have a 1.83GHz MacBook, which has only 512 MB of RAM installed at the moment...
Can I use the RAM that will be left over from the MacBook Pro in my MacBook, so that it will have 2GB (its maximum)?
    Thank you!
    Alexandra

Yes that should work fine. They use the same modules.

  • Will the ram from a "macbook pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo" work in a "MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel i7"

I have a 2008? MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB ram.  Can I use 2 GB ram from the old machine in a new MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel i7 ?
    /bc

    Very likely not.
RAM gets improved over time like everything else, so if the RAM is too old it won't be compatible with newer machines.
TO confirm, use Crucial.com and punch in each machine, then read the RAM requirements and specifications, if they match, then your good.
But I'm willing to bet they won't be beause of the age difference between the two machines.

  • Will my Macbook 13" late 2006 take the RAM from a Macbook Pro 13" 2.4 Ghz Intel Core Duo?

I have a macbook 13" late 2006 and i found it was cheaper to buy a 13" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz Intel Core Duo Ram, I was just wondering if the ram out of the pro model will fit my older model?

    Some basic guesses from http://www.everymac.com
    MacBook 13" Late 2006 is a MacBook2,1 and that uses PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz ram.
MacBook Pro 13" did not use 2.4 GHz but the first of the 13" models was the MacBook Pro7,1 and that uses PC3-8500 DDR3 1066 MHz ram.
Those are not compatible and cannot be used interchangeably.

  • Can I replace my macbook ram with ram from my macbook pro??

    Hi all,
So I bought some new RAM for my late 2011 macbook pro, now the old one is spare and doing nothing. So I'm now wondering if I can put it in my late 2007 white macbook. It's a Hynix 4gb (2x2gb) 1Rx8 PC3 - 10600s - 9 - 10 - B1. Can I?
Does that make any sense to anyone??
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

No, the RAM will not work. It is a different pin configuration and speed.

  • Adding Ram from my Macbook Pro

I just recently purchased a 27" iMac i5 2.8 Quad-core with 4 gb of ram. I do a lot of photo editing in lightroom/photoshop and would eventually like to buy some more ram to bring my total to 8, 12, or 16 gb. With the holidays though I just don't have the spare cash, but I do have spare 2x1 gb sticks of ram from upgrading my (late 08) macbook pro. The only catch is the ram is only 1067 MHz DDR3, slightly slower than the 1333 MHz DDR 3 already installed in my iMac .
My question is this, will I be better off staying at 4 gb of 1333 MHz DDR 3, or is adding 2x1 gb sticks of 1067 MHz DDR 3 ram an okay idea?
Thanks in advance for the help,
    Troy

  • Will my mid 2010  macbook pro work with a dell monitor

I need to buy an external display for my MacBook Pro (mid 2010).  I'm considering a dell UltraSharp U2412M 24-inch.  Will this be compatitble?  I tried a ViewSonic and couldn't get my Mac to play nice re: resolution.  Will I have any better luck with the Dell?  (And yes, if I could afford it, I'd replace my Apple Cinema display in a heartbeat, but that stays at work and I must go...)  thankyou!

I think it will work.  You would need a mini displayport to (single link) DVI adapter to hook up that monitor.
Not sure what kind of problems you had with the ViewSonic but I'm guessing the Dell is probably a better monitor anyhow.

  • If I buy an external monitor (with a res of 2560x1440) will my early 2011 MacBook Pro work ok? And will it be utilising the monitors full res or not?

    Hi,
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro. I use Premiere Pro CS5 to video edit on. It's fine but when it comes to grading it's nearly impossible on such a small screen.
I'd like to buy a 27inch external monitor (Asus, Samsung, Dell, whatever - haven't decided yet) for when I'm editing at work (which is most days). My query is regarding the resolutions. Obviously my MacBook Pro displays a resolution of 1280x800, so if I buy a monitor with a resolution of 2560x1440 for example, what gets displayed?
And also does the connecting cable make any difference? For example, if I'm connecting by Thunderbolt out to HDMI, then an HDMI to HDMI cable to the external monitor, what happens then? Or should I be using a Mini Display Port to Display Port connecting lead?
I guess all I really want to know is, will it work? But also, am I wasting my money buying an external monitor with a 2560x1440 resolution? Should I just go for one that's the same res at my MacBook Pro?
I've never really understood how these things all work!
Thanks in advance for anyones help.
    Regards,
    Phil

  • Can I install RAM from 2011 Macbook Pro into 2009 macbook Pro?

I just upgraded my new mbp from 4 to 8gb. I have a friend with what I think is an early 2009 mbp. Can I take my two 2gb (4gb total) chips and put them in his?
Also, if his is newer, same question. I know that recently (not sure when exactly) the memory cap was raised to 8 on the mbp. So I'm wondering if it's a different kind of chip that wouldn't be compatible with older mbp's.
    Thanks for you help!

You can try it, but it may not work, because your RAM is faster than what's specified for his machine. It should downclock to the speed of his system bus, but it doesn't always.
To use 8GB in an early-2009 MBP, it must be running at least OS X 10.6.6 and have the latest Apple firmware update installed on it.

  • Is it possible to use the ram from a macbook in a iMac?

I am installing new ram on my Early 2011 Macbook Pro (2.3 Ghz., 13 inch, os x 10.9.4). Can I install the old ram from my Macbook Pro into a Mid-2011 iMac(2.7 Ghz., 27 inch, os x 10.9.4)? These links show the ram specs, and they look identical to me. iMac: How to remove or install memory  MacBook Pro: How to remove or install memory

Yes, it is the same spec.
    MacBook Pro:
    Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    iMac:
    Maximum Memory
32 GB (Actual) 16 GB (Apple)

  • TS1367 Will reinstalling the memory card from my MacBook pro erase my saved data?

Will reinstalling the memory card from my MacBook pro erase my saved data?
My MacBook pro that I purchased in mid 2010 has been having some issues lately.
It's been running slow, which is very irregular since in 2010 I spent a lot of money to get the top of the line in every aspect. It's usually faster than fast and able to run multiple programs and browsers at a time.
The other day it began to act up. I did the smc reset the pram reset and it still had been running vveerryy ssllooww. :(
Now I was on it this morning and it was a bit unbalanced as I moved it to another table and it shut off completely. No sleep light, no response to the power button. It's just a dead hunk of junk. :( the only thing that gives me hope is that the battery life indicated is still working for some reason and it responds to the power adaptor when plugged in the light on the plug turns on as if the computer is acknowledging it.
Please help me. For the first time ever I am about to take apart my precious MacBook pro, but I want to make sure I am aware of what I am doing before I do it. I have read the support guide instructions through a few times so far and I am curious if removing the memory and reinstalling it will erase anything?
    Is there hope?
Also currently I am unable to get to an apple store/ genius bar any live person at a store until this weekend. I am trying to avoid taking it in for I, like everyone else, need my computer for school and work and don't have the time or gas money to drive to one since I'm not in a metro area. : S
    Please help!
    Thanks for your time.

No, does not erase any data if you upgarede or reinstall RAM sticks.
You'd better upgrade RAM to get better performance, I suppose.

I just purchased a MacBookPro after having a MacBook.  I have ILife, IWorks and Office for Mac.  How do I get those programs on to my MacBook Pro?  I will still use my MacBook at work so I need those programs to remain on it as well.

You need a Firewire cable to run between the two Macs.  Using Utility>Migration Assistant running on your new MacBook Pro, transfer what you want (with all the preferences and such) from your MacBook to your MBP.  Here's more info from Apple.
You might have an issue with the Serial number for Office, but hopefully you have that around.
    Hope this helps.
