? Will Real-Time effects work on my iMacG5 ?

Hello,
Here is my machine specs:
iMac G5
PowerMac8,2
PowerPC G5 (3.1)
Number of CPUs: 1
2 GHz
512 KB :L2 Cache
512 MB: memory
667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.5f1
Serial number: QP5230LUSDZ
Please let me know if my system is able to utilize the "real-time effects." I'm using Final Cut Pro 3.0.4. I understand the system requirements are: "500-MHz or faster single or dual processor Power Mac G4, for the real-time effects to be utilized." However, I am not able to get the real-time effects to work on my iMac G5.
Any help would be appreciated. Or refer me to information already posted. Thank you
Sincerely,
One

REal time is a complex function of CPU, OS, user and system settings inside FCP, your project settings and machine's RAM. You did not include your OS nor your project settings, I'll assume conventional DV.
About all you can do is continue to work through the manual carefully, studying the setups for your format of choice. It ain't easy the first two or three hundred times but after that, piece of cake.
Welcome to the family.

  • How Real Time Apply works while physical standby is open in Read Only mode

    Hi,
    With Active data guard option, we can open physical standby DB in read only mode, while redo log are being applied. (Real Time Query)
    Standby Redo log (SRL) enables Real Time Apply (with "USING CURRENT LOGFILE" clause in recover database command on standby DB)
    I am interested to know, how Real Time Query works ?
    What is the mechanism with allows us to open physical standby DB in read only mode while redo logs are being applied continuously ?
    Regards,
    Sujit

    Dear user7419391,
    That is a new feature in Oracle Database 11g. MRP can use the real time apply in 10g but the concept here is different.
    Taken from the following document;
    http://www.ascent.co.za/documents/oracle/Oracle%20databse%2011g%20Active-Data-Guard%20datasheet.pdf
    *Unique Advantages of Oracle Active Data Guard*
    +Active Data Guard is an evolution of Data Guard technology, providing unique+
    +performance advantages while leveraging all other enhancements included in Oracle+
    +Data Guard 11g. For example, any Data Guard 11g physical standby database can+
    +be easily converted to a Snapshot Standby. A Snapshot Standby is open read-write+
    +and is ideally suited as a test system, able to process transactions independent of the+
    +primary database. A Snapshot Standby maintains protection by continuing to receive+
    +data from the production database, archiving it for later use. When tests are+
    +complete, a single command discards changes made while open read-write and+
    +quickly resynchronizes the standby database with the primary.+
    The other link in the previous post is excellent and you really have to read it to understand the active data guard aspects.

  • Will the time capsule work the bt home hub 3

    Will my time capsule work with the bt home hub 3

    Apple products work in a huddle with themselves.. all others are excluded so no you cannot wireless repeat if that is what you mean.
    In bridge though the TC can work as a WAP.. as can every wireless router ever made. You must connect to the home hub by ethernet. Then set the wireless manually and use the same network name, ie SSID, and security settings and password.. but you need to use a different wireless channel. You can then roam with any wireless devices..and they should connect to the strongest signal. In reality it doesn't work 100% and I think it is easier to use a different SSID and know what you are connecting too, but that is up to you.

  • Real-time effects no longer available after re-install

    I recently blanked my entire system in order to re-install everything clean.  Since then, things that used to work no longer do. I have installed Premiere Pro 1.5.1 + the Matrox RT.X100 Tools, Build 6122.  I've removed the card and installed, un-installed and re-installed twice.  I'm sure I'm doing it correctly.  This is not a hardware compatability issue, as this system has been editing fine for over a year.  Here's what's going wrong...
    1.  First of all, I cannot drag a simple Premiere Cross-Dissolve into the timeline without creating a red area above the effect (meaning the effect needs to be rendered).  That was never the case in the past...Premiere always allowed a real-time dissolve effect.
    2.  When I drag over a Matrox effect (any kind of effect..transition, blur, whatever), it won't appear on the timeline.  That is, I drag it to the spot where I want to apply it and let go, but the effect is not there.  Effects will not "stick" to the timeline nor to clips in the timeline.
    Any clues?  Thanks.

    Yes, as Jeff, er-r Phil , says, the Rendering (red line to green) of any Transition in pure PrPro has always been the case. The RT aspect is part of the Matrox card.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • PS CS6: stroke color picker preview in real time not working

    re: NEW color picker stroke color not updating in real time (previewing).
    Is it me or has the stroke color preview been removed in CS6 or is there a setting that needs to be changed to enable it?
    The problem: When I create a shape layer, press enter and then chose a stroke color from the color picker, I select a color but it doesnt update the stroke color until I press enter. I'm sure it used to change in real time as you clicked on the color picker panel before accepting it.
    Any sugestions or ideas as to whats going on or am I going mad?
    Further update: This is when creating a shape but using the new stroke feature in the properties bar at the top (the one which gives you the new fancy options like having a dashed, transparent or gradiented stroke) and not the traditional method of adding it as an effect. This still shows a real time update, but the new method doesnt.

    If thats working so the color changes in real time for you, then unfortunatley I've got a problem with my version.
    Using Win7 CS6 extended, and following your instructions it works for me.
    Border changes withn I click on color pallet with color picker.
    Odd, same version/ O.S. here, thanks for that though Curt Y. Are you sure you're not clicking on the preset colours and actually using the color picker dialogue box.
    I've been in a bit of a rush here at the office and appologise for not being clearer and posting a screencap earlier.
    To clarify, its the Cyan dialogue box not the orange box I'm talking about  (nice choice of colours I know ). The top right icon in the organge box with the colours in is how you get to it.

  • Event Structure in Timed Loop in real time cannot work

    I am a new user for LabVIEW. And I met a problem which really frastre me!!! Hope someone can help me out. Thanks in advance!
    I simply want to use event structure under timed loop, which is extrmely important in my design.
    However, this works very good in my computer (without connect to FPGA).
    Once I connect it to FPGA, then I can run it still but there is no response!
    My file is attached. Please somebody helps me!
    Looking forward to your answers!
    Solved!

    Test for Timed Loop.vi ‏9 KB

    The FPGA runs headless. Event structures are not going to work. What you need to do is have an application on your host where the user presses a button, changes a value, etc. That event should send a message via TCP/IP to the code running in the real time environment. Then the real time environment should set a control on the FPGA to the value you want.
    In general, real time programming with FPGA has multiple layers.
    1) Host code-> handles user interactions and communicates them to real time code via TCP,UDP, etc. Displays data to user sent from the RT controller.
    2) Real time code->runs headlessly. Handles messages from Host code, processes FPGA data, communicates with FPGA much like the host code communicates with the real time code
    3) FPGA -> does acquistion and passes it via FIFO to the RT
    The first thing you need to do is understand the architecture and how all these pieces of the puzzle work together before throwing things down on a diagram.

  • Will Airport/time capsule work if physically located on the second floor of the house, versus the ground floor?, Will Airport/time capsule work if physically located on the second floor of the house, versus the ground floor?

    I want to know if the location of the time capsule makes a difference in it's performance. Will it work the same if it's located on the second floor of my home, or does it need to be located on the bottom floor?

    The performance of any wireless device is affected by the distance that the device is located from the wireless router and the obstructions in the signal path.
    The wireless signal weakens with distance. Obstructions like walls and ceilings always absorb part of the signal.
    As to whether your Time Capsule will work well upstairs, it is really not possible to predict wireless performance in advance.
    But if you have a Mac laptop, you can get a rough idea of the available signal strength by looking at the AirPort icon at the top of your screen.
    If the Time Capsule is located on the bottom floor now, move your laptop to the proposed "new" upstairs location of the Time Capsule and check the signal strength at that location.  Ideally, you want "full bars" for best performance. If you get a strong signal, the Time Capsule will probably work OK upstairs.

  • Will a time capsule work connected to a Sky wireless router, or should time capsule replace the Sky wireless router

    I cant work out whether I should connect my new time capsule to my existing Sky wireless boadbannd router, or does the time capsule kit replace my Sky
    router .I would really appreciate a none technical answer to my dilema before I open the box.

    It depends on what the sky router exactly is..
    If it is a modem, then you definitely have to keep it.. is it satellite or some sort of wireless internet??
    If it is a router that plugs into an existing modem then in all  likelihood the TC can replace it.
    If the sky router can be bridged then the sky router can be kept but the TC work as the router.
    And finally even if the sky router is locked and you cannot do anything.. the TC can still work as a bridged device to provide backup and wireless connection within your network.
    So however the situation it is possible to use your TC.

  • Nothing will make Time Capsule work

    I've made upwards of 50 attempts to due a time machine backup to my time capsule, with a zero percent success rate. Usually it gets about 90% finished then quits with an error 11. So I find the file that it failed on, and bypass that file (or the whole directory) and try again, with the same result. I've renamed the device and the disk to just "cap" . The time capsule disk does not show up on disk utilities. I've tried to start fresh, so I've held the reset button. The last resort is erasing the disk, but whenever I try to erase it from Airport Utility I get "This Apple wireless device is busy Do not unplug or reset this Apple wireless device until it is available Waiting for disk status . . . " which of course never changes. Does anyone have any idea why I can't erase it?" The only idea I have left is hitting it repeatedly with a hammer.

    Apple products work in a huddle with themselves.. all others are excluded so no you cannot wireless repeat if that is what you mean.
    In bridge though the TC can work as a WAP.. as can every wireless router ever made. You must connect to the home hub by ethernet. In reality it doesn't work 100% and I think it is easier to use a different SSID and know what you are connecting too, but that is up to you.

  • Real-time Transitions w CUDA - AVCHD Clips (trimmed) Don't Work

    I have been able to isolate and reproduce this issue - even on new project - with just one video clip/asset. I cannot get real-time transitions to work.  I'm using a Matrox MXO2 Mini with Max, and a GTX 470 - with GPU Acceleration enabled for the project. Here is where transitions break every time.
    If I take a video asset/clip, razor it or trim it in any way, then then add a transition between the two edited pieces - the real-time effects will
    not work. (dip to black). The key here is -- it the same original video asset that it being used together and transitioned. If it is two different assets/clips - then real-time effects works fine very time. I confirmed with Matrox - they get the same results - and get the same results without the Matrox drivers/hardware.
    I'm curious if other have run into this, and how folks deal with this (if at all). Seems strange, as this seems like a basic task, and having to render everytime this occurs is tedious.
    Thanks, J.

    Thanks Todd...  I had searched around and was not successful in finding a similar post/response to this issue. I can verify (per Jim's post)  that when I did a test render, the effect/transition was fine in actual render... so only previews are affected.
    Thanks for posting the workaround. Given transitions are generally short, I thought I might be able to razor/cut shortly before and after it the transition... so the preview only rendered a short segment, but that does not work... it still renders the whole segment (for anyone that had this idea too).
    If there are any other issues of this type to know of, I would appreciate if you can post it here as a follow up it would be greatly appreciated.

    *.log_archive_format='DBPMY_%r_%t_%s.arc'
    log_archive_dest_state_1 = enable
    log_archive_dest_state_2 = enable

    There are a couple of things to look at.
    1. Real time apply requires standby redo logs on the standby database. On the standby database run this query:
    SELECT * FROM v$logfile where type = 'STANDBY';
    if you get 0 rows back you'll need to create standby logfiles
    The general guideline is to size them exactly like your redo logs but add one additional standby log to ensure it doesn't cause a bottleneck.
    2. Get the size of your logfiles:
    SELECT GROUP#, BYTES FROM V$LOG;
    3. For example if you have 3 redo logs that are 50 MB in size, create 4 standby redo logs 50 MB each and don't multiplex them.
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/Archive/DBSBY/onlinelog/slog1.rdo') SIZE 50M;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/Archive/DBSBY/onlinelog/slog2.rdo') SIZE 50M;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/Archive/DBSBY/onlinelog/slog3.rdo') SIZE 50M;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/Archive/DBSBY/onlinelog/slog4.rdo') SIZE 50M;
    4. Cancel recovery on standby
    recover managed standby database cancel;
    5. Restart recovery using real time apply
    recover managed standby database using current logfile disconnect;
    6. To validate that real time is working you can check a few places.
    -It will say in the database alert log on standby that it's using real time apply
    OR
    -Check primary
    SELECT status, recovery_mode FROM v$archive_dest_status where dest_name = 'LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2';
    If the recovery_mode is "MANAGED REAL TIME APPLY" then real time apply is working, if it's anything else then we'll need to check more things.
    NOTE that if you are going to allow your current primary to switch roles and become a standby then you'll want to create standby redo logs on primary as well
    Sometimes recovery gets "stuck" and simply resetting the destination parameters can resolve it:
    alter system set log_archive_dest_2='service=DBSBY valid_for=(online_logfiles,primary_role) db_unique_name=DBSBY LGWR ASYNC=20480 OPTIONAL REOPEN=15 NET_TIMEOUT=30';
    There are some other things we can check next but let's start with the easiest fixes first.

  • Using JRockit Real Time with Large Heap

    I want to know if JRockit Real Time can work with extremely large heap, e.g. 100G, to provide effective deterministic GC, before proceeding with evaluation for my application.
    Thanks in advance!
    Wing

    Hi Wing,
    In general, extremely large heaps can make all GCs slower. This is true for Deterministic GC as well. However, it is very application dependent. It is above our standard recommendation, but you can download JRockit Real Time and give it a try.

  • Real Time deployment

    Hi SAP Experts,
    I would like to understand more details on real-time deployment functionality of deployment. Does real time deployment works for multi-level location scenarios ?
    As I understand the real time deployment first runs the SNP heuristics to consider the latest demand supply situation but does it run the heuristics for the entire network for that product or only look at the location connected one level up from the supply location ?
    Example:  I have a Markets A, B and C which are connected to in-stock locations X, Y and Z which send the net requirements to the plants A B C.
    My supply chain is plant 1, 2, 3 are connected to stock locations X, Y and Z and which in turn are supplying to each markets A, B and C.
    If I want to run the real time deployment using supplying plants 1,2 and 3
      the real time deployment will only deploy receipts to in stock locations X, Y and Z (which is one level up from the plants) or
      Will I see the deployment results at markets A B and C (all through the network upto the markets)
      Does it looks at low level codes in the network while running the heuristics for the product.
    Real time deployment at supply locations only look at in stock locations Z, Y Z or when it runs the heuristics it actually runs the heuristics at the market locations A, B C to update all the net requirements at X, Y, Z and then run heuristics at X, Y, Z to calculate net requirements for plants 1, 2, 3 and the deploy in reverse order up the way to markets from supply plants. Does it looks at low level codes in the network while running the heuristics for the product.
    Thanks and regards,
    Amit

    Hi Amit,
    Like you i am also exploring real time deployment.
    As far as i have understood , real time deployment will run a heursitic between the source and destination location(if specified in SNP02 ) or run heuristic on all t-lane connections between source and all possible destination locations (if dest loc not specified in SNP02) & then take the normal deployment run.
    This will be valid for scenarios wherein you want to consider destination locations demand arriving after the last SNP run.
    Hope this helps.
    Do come back with your testing results.
    Regards,
    Vinay
