Will reinstalling SL erase all my apps and folders etc.
I am using Mountain Lion and yesterday Mail, Aperture, iPhoto, FCP X, Compressor and Motion all refused to open, sending up the usual message saying they could not work "because of a problem blah, blah, blah".
All the usual troubleshooting strategies failed and the only known cure was to reinstall the OS, which I dreaded as I mistakenly assumed it would erase the whole computer, apps, folders and all.
I was overjoyed to discover that the reinstallion did not dlete anything and the problem apps were back in business.
So my question is simply, if I had been using an earlier OS such as SL, would I have been able to reinstall the OS without deleting anything?
Thanks for the confirmation, Andy.
Basically reinstalling the OS appears to be pretty much the same as an upgrade with regard to the effect (or lack of) it has on the installed apps, fo;ders, files etc.
I'm sure that years ago reinstalling involved erasure of the hard drive?
I wonder when that stopped?

I just decomissioned my windows pc in favor of a new (to me) MacBook Pro. When I attempt to sync my iPad I get a warning that I will erase all content on the ipad in order to sync with the new computer. How do avoid erasing all the data on the iPad, and get the iPad and the new Mac/iTunes to be friends?
Best option is to use Windows Migration Assistant as Ralph noted.
Here's a better (updated) link to Windows Migration Assistant for Lion -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4796
Or if you only want iTunes (Migration Assistant let's you choose) copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from your PC to /Music/ on the Mac.
FYI: A MacBook is not a PowerBook. PowerBooks were discontinued in 2005. -
My daughter has previously had an ipod which was linked to my itunes iphone account.
she now has a new iphone and has linked this to that account and now she receives all my contacts apps etc when she syncs her account.

You need to Delete more content from your Device...
Pictures... Video... Music take a lot of Space.
After you have Updated... Re-Sync what you want back.

Why does order of apps and folders change when downloading new apps?
Since I've downloaded iOS 6 on my iPhone 4s, whenever I download a new app, it goes at the beginning of page 2 on my desktop which of course changes the order of all the apps and folders. It didn't do this with iOS 5. It is a real pain. Is there some way to change it back to the way it used to be on iOS 5?
Thank you.I think that I did that. I checked the arrow to point up on the numerical listing of the tracks. When I "burn" the CD, it shows them being written in order, but when the entire thing is completed and I go to the actual CD, they are all out of order.

If i sync my ipod with another computer to get more music on it. Will it erase all my apps, app data, and pictures?
All synced media that is not already in the iTunes library on the second computer will be erased. This second computer will be your syncing computer
You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library. -
Hy i'm an italian user and i've a question. if i lost itunes and i must reinstall it i will lose all my apps and music??
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You'll keep your purchased music and apps. Also, if iTunes was damaged, maybe the iTunes library is in your Music folder will all your data -
If I unistall iTunes off my computer and reinstall it, will I loose everything in the iTunes library? All my apps and movies? Do I need to back them up first?
No, you won't. Back them up anyway.

If you reinstall Mac OSX 10.5, does it erase all your files and settings??
If you reinstall Mac OSX 10.5, does it erase all your files and settings, if it does, how would you install iMovie by itself, because I accidenatlly deleted imovie

that depends what reinstall option you choose. an erase and install will erase everything. an archive and install will preserve user data and applications.
However neither one will reinstall imovie which is part of ilife which is separate from the OS itself. you can reinstall ilife only. there is no need to reinstall the whole OS. if you bought ilife separately then use the ilife DVD. if ilife came with your mac then insewrt install disk 1 that came with your computer, open it in finder and double-click on "install bundled software only". -
my ipod out of nowhere he erased all the songs and then they reset everything as if I had just purchased apps, photos, notes, erase everything and I just do not know what happens first erased all the songs and then complete a reset step? and
Glitches happen sometimes. Just restore from backup
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store -
when i go to sync my apps with my computer it tells me ''are you sure you want to sync apps ? all exsisting apps and there data on (iphone) will be replaced with the apps on this itunes library'' does this mean all my data will be lost if i continue ?
Regarding your broken, previously authorized computer, here's how that works:
You would authorize your new computer -- maybe you've done that already. Then you will have two computers authorized. Apple allows you to have up to five computers authorized at any time. If you get to five, you can then go to your account details in iTunes and remove all authorizations.
Bear in mind this is not saying you can synch to more tham one library. Razmee209 and gdgmacguy's comments above are correct. But if Apple only allowed you to authorize one computer at a time, then having a broken computer would mean you could no longer use your Apple ID with iTunes. -
My parent's IPad is SUPER outdated and I'm trying to buy an app for my brother for Christmas. However, I can't buy the app because it says we need to update the software. The thing is, the computer that was connected to the IPAD, we no longer have. So is there any way I can update it on my mac without erasing all the photos and videos?

I have two apple ID's, one with all my apps and one with only Mavericks. Will Mavericks update automatically if i'm not logged in to the apple ID I used to download it?
Some things are mixed up here, seemingly...
I seem to have two Apple ID's attached to my e-mail.
An Apple ID is a valid email address, apparently. How can those be "attached to your email"... what email?
Facetime will not verify my e-mail address because it is associated with the other account.
This doesn't make sense. You can register multiple, even non-Apple-ID, email addresses and their aliases with FaceTime.
So, maybe you can explain your problem better - what you want and the steps you've taken and what you have so far. If something doesn't work, please tell the exact error message, too.
