Will reloading an ASA-SSM effect the Firewall itself?

We've lost the login info for the IPS-SSM on our ASA 5520. It looks like we will need to re image the module with a newer software version. It currently is not in use i.e. no rules for it on the the firewall. Will this process take the firewall off line at all?
Output from sh command:

So it will have an effect on the firewall, causing it to fail over?
Also I am having a hard time understanding the recovery process as it seems the device needs to be configured to allow the recovery image to be used. I have no idea how if at all the device is configured, we have zero access to the device as we have none of the passwords for it and no idea how it's configured.
from looking at the above (1st post) you can there is no recovery location set. How do I recover with no info on the device?

    Sam,
See the other post in the list talking about your problem, "host not trusted".
I had the same problem and the fix was to upgrade the IPS to 7.1(9)E4 .

  • Will Stretch property of Viewfinder effect the resulting video?

    Hi there;-)
I use AudioVideoCaptureDevice in my Silverlight app to record videos. The viewfinder is a rectangle. My app have the ability to change the Stretch property of the viewfinder and that works like a charm. I have not tested if the resulting video looks different
when I change the Stretch property of the viewfinder but in your observation does it make a difference? I mean the viewfinder only shows what is being streamed from the camera sensor, right? So if I think about it it shouldn't effect the resulting video at
all but I'm not sure that's why I'm asking you. Thanks in advance.

I have not tested if the resulting video looks different when I change the Stretch property of the viewfinder but in your observation does it make a difference?
Why haven't you tested this yourself?

It sounds like you have a pretty good theory. Check it out and let everybody know if you were correct!

  • Resetting the firewall?

we have Yosemite on both of our Macs at home; an early-2008 Mac Pro and a 2013 iMac. the firewall on both of the Macs is broken.
when the firewall is broken, processes are listed instead of packages, and the firewall actually stops all traffic irrespective of the custom app settings. turning the firewall off and on again does not fix the problem. removing all processes from the custom list does not fix the problem. rebooting the Mac does not fix the problem. in the past, complete clean reinstallation of the OS did not fix the problem.
with Mavericks, I was able to delete the alp.plist file (/Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist) and reboot to fix the problem. that's no longer possible with Yosemite because Yosemite seems to be caching the data and reinstating it after a reboot. the result is that the firewall is permanently broken.
both of our Macs are now exposed because their firewalls need to be turned off to allow file sharing and screen sharing to work. don't tell me that because we're behind an NAT router that we don't need our firewalls. that's rubbish!
I've reported this serious security bug to Apple multiple times. they're acknowledged it privately but have so far been unable to fix it.
does anyone know how to reset the firewall on Yosemite?
a Terminal command-line would be nice.
any other pref/setting/config files that I could delete to reset the firewall?
    cheers,
    Gregory

    that worked before Yosemite.
I've found that I can usually reset the firewall now by:
open Security & Privacy/Firewall/Firewall Options and delete all of the services/processes/applications.
    turn off the Firewall.
    turn off all Sharing services.
turn on the Sharing services I need.
    turn on the Firewall.
at this point, I usually get asked to allow/reject access to a process (not application) called 'kdc'. I allow this process because it seems to be involved in the Firewall process itself. when I then open Firewall Options, the 'kdc' process will however not be listed, and the Firewall seems to work as expected.
fortunately, this method seems to work and doesn't require a Reboot... at least for now.
I don't know if it matters, but I've also changed another security aspect on our Macs. I now have a dedicated Admin account. our 'people' accounts no longer have admin privileges. someone here in the discussions community suggested this for better security and it makes a lot of sense. this change means that during the Firewall reset procedure above, I have to enter the admin's account/password 3 or 4 times but I don't mind the extra hassle for the extra security.

  • Will ASA-SSM-20 reload affect ASA failover?

I have 2 ASA 5520s with an ASA-SSM-20 installed in each. The ASA-SSM-20 in the primary ASA is not working correctly:
Error: Cannot communicate with mainApp (getVersion). Please contact your system administrator.
Would you like to run cidDump?[no]:
I would like to reload the module, but I don't know if that will cause the whole ASA to failover. The ASAs are running 7.2(3).
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks Brett.
We are using stateful failover. Not all sessions get dropped, just enough Telnet and application interface links that we start getting calls and people show up at my door. This is on a new ASA5520 that normally runs <5% CPU utilization. I just checked the failover link is set to 1000FULL so there should not be any delay updated state information.
Am I missing something in the config?

  • Will the AIP-SSM for the ASA stop this?

I have a client emailed me today that someone did a script injection attack on one of their web servers. It ran a backdoor Trojan virus on their web server. I know the AIP-SSM will stop the Trojan, but will it stop someone from doing the script injection attack. If so, is it documented and can you point me to the document.
    Thanks.
    Dan

    Hi,
If you know exactly which of the various script injection attacks was used you can simply look it up here:
    http://tools.cisco.com/security/center/home.x
If you don't know exactly which one then it's slightly harded to know whether it would have been stopped, but searching on "script injection" or similar should narrow down the candidates and give you an idea on whether it would have been stopped or not.
Remember that an IPS isn't perfect, but it *will* significantly lower your risk if setup and maintained properly.
    HTH
    Andrew.

  • Swap Cisco ASA SSM-10 from dead firewall

            Good afternoon,
I currenty have 2 cisco 5510 firewalls one of the firewals is completly dead but contains a Cisco ASA SSM-10 can i remove this card and just place it into a working unit, will i have any problems doing so.
    Regards
    Paul

No, that shouldn't be a problem at all as the serial number of the SSM-10 module does not get linked to the actual ASA appliance.

We are getting the below error when we see in Crawl logs

This is happening in FAST search.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got error when communicating to the server.
This happens when crawler is not able to connect to the server. Make sure server name is correct. Couple of steps to troubleshoot it
You should be able to ping the server from the server having crawl component. Make sure there is an entry for the server in the host file under c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc folder.
              Ping <servername>
          2.  You should be able to connect to the server using telnet command
    Telnet< servername> <port number>
    More information:
    Troubleshooting of FAST Search Configuration
If the issue still exists, you can delete the old search application and recreate from the beginning.
You can also reset the index and do a full crawl after.
Here is a similar thread for your reference:

I have CC and while attempting Light Effects, the Light Effects Layer will appear in the layers panel, but the option bar will not appear and neither will the Properties panel. All my preferences are set correct, and my computer has a compatible video card and RAM. Please help!
I tried to delete the layer attempt again. I am in a Photoshop class, but the work is all online, so all my teacher is going to do is send me to this site. I am trying to edit a photo for this class, and without this working, i go to filter>render>light effects. the bar and panel will pop up for about 2 seconds, then disappear. How do i get the options bar and properties panel to display?

I was about to suggest resetting LE from the Workspace drop-down top right corner, but if you can't see the Options Bar, I guess that is not going to happen.  The normal Tool reset is grey out for LE, so it might be a case of resetting Preferences.

I tried using Time Machine to restore iCal, tried doing disk repairs... nothing changes the outcome. No windows will open in the application.

  • Driver Scanner will not update, there is a problem with proxy sttings and the firewall

Driver Scanner will not update. It says there is a problem in connecting to the Uniblue browser.
Also there is a problem with the proxy set up and the firewall.

With that one, let's try getting an installer log to the Apple engineers for a look.
    1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address: [email protected]
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

when I'm on an app, on iso7.1 it will now show the "iPad/iphone" sign - the time - and the battery whilst running in an app. does anyone know how to get rid of that as its effecting the games i play.

If you can hide the status bar, it would be an option inside the app. I have one or two apps where that is an option but in most apps it is not.

  • Seeing errors & FIFO Overruns on the ASA-SSM-10

    Hello,
A few of my customers are utilizing ASA-SSM-10 module running under ASA5510/20 hardware. The FW?s is part of the Failover configuration.
The module is running in "promiscuous fail-open" mode and the class-map for the IPS is applied as global_policy with access-list monitoring all the interfaces and all protocols.
In two independent cases, we are seeing errors on the Sensing interface GigabitEthernet0/1
    Total Receive Errors = 772089
Total Receive FIFO Overruns = 3832
I've already verified speed/duplex settings on the FW side and I don't see any errors that would probably be causing this behavior. The bandwidth on the all interfaces is also nowhere close to the rated 150Mbps/s inspection.
    Here is the scenario:
    Client1 - HA
ASA 5510 Adaptive Security Appliance v7.2(2)19
    ASA 5500 Series Security Services Module-10 v5.1(6)E1
    Client2 - HA
ASA 5520 Adaptive Security Appliance v7.2(2)10
    ASA 5500 Series Security Services Module-10 v5.1(6)E1
Wondering if anyone has seen the behavior in their environment and what might be causing it?

    Hello Giorgi,
Sometimes it may be server saturation, other connection problems proxy and so on. I recommend you to not put the hour for auto update to an exact time ie 2:00 PM or 1:00 AM try putting not even numbers like 9:17 or 10:41, and see if you continue getting these errors.

  • How will effect the tax on depreciation ?

    Hi Sap Gurus,
How will effect the tax on depreciation ?
    what is the entry...
    Thanks
    Ramakanth

    Hi,
Treatment of tax depreciation depends on how your client wants it.
Most client don't want tax depreciation to post to general ledger. Hence in the configuration, using transaction code OADX, the setting of tax depreciation is set to zero. This way real time tax depreciation is not posted to GL.
Depreciation keys specific to cater tax depreciation are either created and defaulted to asset classes where tax depreciation is present. Also useful life of an asset is changed in tax depreciation area. This ensures tax depreciation to be calculated normally while posting depreciation. Later on reports can be executed to get the value of tax depreciation during the given period.
