Will revert to old iOS bring back my music library?

I installed the 5.1 OS on my old ipod Touch, and when itunes was done (said it restored) I lost all my apps and music and pictures. is there any way to un-format the unit and get my music back? I have sold almost all of the CD's by now, and can't rebuild. (I thought they were safely stoed on the ipod) Apparently I did not back up the purchased items.

I think I am S.O.L!!
Your thoughts please

Isn't your music (and other media) still in your iTunes library?  You had to use iTunes to sync your music to the iPod touch at some point...
If your music and other media are in your iTunes library, just set up syncing for your iPod touch again.  If you need help in doing that, please post back.
If your iTunes library no longer has your music and other media for some reason, and you have no backup, you can still get back most items you purchased from the iTunes Store (including songs and apps).  Go to the iTunes Store Home screen, in iTunes.  Under QUICK LINKS, click on Purchased.  This takes you to the Purchased screen, where you can re-download previous purchases at no cost.  NOTE:  You need to be signed in to iTunes using the same Apple ID used to make those previous purchases.
Unless you were subscribed to Apple's iTunes Match service, other songs that came from CDs (or other sources) are probably lost.

If this is done, will the newly installed I-Tunes overwrite the music library on my computer hard drive or will I still be able to access the music library via the new I-Tunes installation?

Reinstalling iTunes should leave your library alone.

  • I have an ipad and an iPod and a Dell Desktop PC. I have music on my iPod but the old computer I had my music library on is broken. Can I transfer from my iPod to my PC?

I have an iPod, an ipad and a Dell PC. My old PC which had my music library on, has broken. How do I transfer the contents of my ipod on to my new computer?

The iPad is not a computer, it cannot replace one, and it cannot sync music or media to other devices.
You need to keep a computer around if you want  to sync ther Classic and Nano. It may also be useful if you ever need to backup the iPad in case a restore is necessarry.

  • If i install itunes on a new computer will i have access to download my itunes music library from icloud?

If i install itunes to a new computer will i have access to download my itunes music library from icloud?

It depends on what country you're in, whether or not you can authorize that computer, and whether or not the songs are still available in the iTunes Store. Any copies in the iCloud shouldn't be considered to be a substitute for a backup.

  • Upgrading Imac from 10.5.8 to Snow leopard, will I be able to bring back programs like photoshop from my old backup to the new operating system without the program disc, if so how?

So my imac has the older version 10.5.8 on it and in order to use some programs I need to upgrade to snow leopard. I made a full back up on my external harddrive already, now I need to repair the disc of the computer because it will not verify. So then that way I can clear it completely then, then install snow leopard. But I need to be able to bring back my programs like adobe photoshop, so will I be able to bring that back into snow leaopard with out a install disc? and if so how do i do that with out backing up the comp from my back up. So i can keep my memory down.. thanks for the help

The photoshop is elements 6, versions 6.0.  and the computer had only 2gb of ram but I just upgraded to the 4gb to see if thatd help it from freezing up all the time and maybe go a little faster.

  • Ipod Touch 4th Gen with iOS 6 syncs but music library does not.  Why?

Hello all. Everything else on the iPod (that I have used) is working fine.
I have tried restarting my computer, iTunes, iPod, re-routing the directory and syncing again.  Nothing has worked.  I have even tried selecting only certain artists and nothing.  I am about to revert back to the old iOS on my iPod, but before I do, does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks for your time!

    - You do have the volume set all the way up?
    - Have you tried another pair of headphones/do the headphone work in other devices?
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the headphone plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. It seems yo have a hardware problem, likely a bad headphone jack.

  • IOS 8 blew my music library off my iphone

I updated to iOS 8 and after I did my music on my phone is "unavailable" for lack of a better word.
The album covers are there, the song lists are there, it doesn't have the little download from cloud icon saying that it's up in the cloud, but when you go try to play anything it scrolls from song to song to song without playing anything and then the album song list pops back up with the little circle with a square in it saying you need to download.  However, when I push that to try to download it does nothing.   I somehow poked around last night on my iphone and found somewhere where I could choose a source of music from my phone or library, and it seemed to fix the problem, and last night I had all my music back and life was good.  However, this morning I got in the care to go to work and tried to play some music off my phone and poof it was all gone again, back the way I described it before.  AAARRGGHH!  And now I can't figure out how/where I found on my phone that place to choose between my library or phone as a source of music.  HELP!!!

    Hi there. Hi NYC2CHS.
I've got the same problem with my iOS 8.0 / iPad Air / iTunes 11.4.
Several hours after updating iOS to 8 from 7, I found my music library on the iPad broken. I saw songs are listed but most of them cannot be played. Each unplayable song is shown with an icon of a red circle with a small square inside, which probably tells me the song needs to be downloaded from iCloud or somewhere else. I'm sure that they were in the device's memory before updating iOS. I also found the music library size shrank by large amount after updating iOS and syncing iPad with iTunes, so I suppose syncing iOS 8 device with iTunes destroyed my music library on the iOS device.
Syncing between iTunes and iOS seems to destroy the songs on iOS device. Yesterday I tried "Restore iPad" and synced some tunes from iTunes to iPad. Just after the first sync the tunes were downloaded to iPad successfully, and they could be played. However, today I found the tunes were blown off after syncing the iPad with iTunes again! I saw iTunes says "syncing artwork" or something while syncing, and then I found the music library on iPad broken. So I suppose iTunes 11.4 cannot sync correctly with iOS 8 on iPad Air.
My guess (N.B. not an experience) is: If you really need to rebuild the music library on the iOS device, a workaround will be trying "Restore iPad" or "Restore Backup". But it will take time, largely up to your library size. And once the library is rebuilt on your iOS device, you shouldn't sync it with iTunes until iTunes is updated. I haven't tried that yet, but I will try it. Not today I will try because I have no time today anymore.
    My situation:
    iTunes 11.4 (18) / Mac OS X 10.9.5 / Mac Mini
iOS 8.0 / iPad Air with Cellular 128 GB
I really hope this problem is solved soon by Apple.
    Thanks.

  • Backing up Music Library...

When you back up your library or playlist to DVD will it keep the title of the song and keep that song in your playlist or does it just back everything up in one big clump? I am wondering if backing up certain playlists might be better than doing the whole library. What are your thoughts on this? I think DVD is the way to go instead of having a whole mess of CD's for my over 1,450 song collection. I am well aware that I cannot expect to play music from the back up DVD. I just want to back everything up should something go wrong in the future. Would a pain in the neck if it doesn't save the title of the songs though!!!

If you want the easiest way to backup, get an external hard drive. A lot of people, including me, that regularly post on these forums use an EHD & you can find them dirt cheap these days.
Of course, data DVD's are the way to go, since they hold a lot more data than a CD. If you burn as a data disc, all file information is maintained. If you are concerned about backing up your playlist/playcount information, you will also need to backup the 2 iTunes database files, the .xml & .itl files.

  • Backing up music library and keeping album art

I am getting ready to format my computer and want to make sure that when i am up and running again all i have to do is install itunes and my backed up music over and will be good to go. For alot of my music i had to add my album art manually. I saved the image for the album off the web and than dragged and dropped it into the bottom left hand corner for the album art section in the play list. How can i ensure that i am not going to have to do it all over again when i import my music folder after re-format?

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking about actually backing up "my music" folder in "my documents" in Word rather than just copying the tracks, but I don't know how to back up other than by just dropping and dragging the tracks onto a CD. I have searched in Microsoft Office help but there is no reference to backing up. Is burning them onto blank cd's the quickest way? Also if I need to get them back off the cd and put them back onto the computer can that be done and if so how and would it be done using the Creative software or just Explorer or My Computer?

  • Need help backing up music library to disc image

Can anyone suggest an easy way to create a disc image of all my ITunes library and then compress it so it would be able to be burned to DVD? Or multiple DVD'S... or just put away safely in another external drive ...but just a lot smaller. There are so many choices in the process when I have taken a look at how to do it, that I just was overwhelmed. For example; formating, journaling etc. HELP!!

You could get SOME compression by creating a disk image of your iTunes Music folder. Launch Disk Utility (Apps > Utilities), then File > New > Image from Folder. Navigate to your iTunes Music folder, decide where you want to save it, choose "compressed" from the drop down, (and encrypt if you want, personally I wouldn't add that overhead just for music), then click Image. It will take some time, but at the end you will have a smaller music folder ready to be stored. I'm not sure you will see a DRAMATIC reduction, but you will see some.
(Don't worry about your iTunes Library database and iTunes Music Library.xml files, those don't take up too much room and can be copied straight without compression.)

  • Backing up music library onto CD's or floppy dis

I have about 300 tracks in my Creative Music library and on my Creative MP3 player. If by any chance my computer crashes, is there any way of me backing up the music library onto CD's or floppy discs. I have searched in Microsoft help but cannot find anything to assist? Also would it require loads of CD's or loads of floppy discs?
Also if the music library on the computer crashes can the music from the MP3 player be copied back onto the Creative library?

  • Backing u Music Library

I am trying to back up my Music Library to a 4GB Flash Drive to secure my music tracks just in case my Hard Drive became corrupted. I attempted to drag the music library to the Flash Drive but the files would not transfer. Would it be better to do a FIND to locate the file where the music library is and then drag it to the Flash Drive?
    Searching for any answers,
    Darrell

    Patrick,
My apologies. When highlighting and dragging the Library/Music file to the Flash Drive, the highlighted music file was not recognized( the Flash Drive icon would become more pronounced) by the Flash Drive icon. Letting go of the mouse returned the Library/Music file to the original location prior to dragging. I was able to drag the iTunes icon to the Flash Drive, which I think only loaded the iTunes application program

  • IOS 5.1 audio drop outs - bring back my music!

I was in the car listening to iTunes via Bluetooth and later via an iPhone dock connector to stereo cable.  On both occasions iTunes also dropped all audio the first time another app made any noise.  For example, I'm listening to music and then my GPS app tells me the next turn, as soon as she finishes talking the music audio drops out. The next time she tells me to turn I hear my music playing in the background, but it drops as soon as she stops speaking again.  If I turn off Bluetooth, then force a connection back to my stereo the music works until another sound happens, even the beep of a new email will cause the audio to be lost.
As I sit here and type this I could hear the clatter of the keys, until a moment ago when I received an email (and got the email sound), now the keyboard is silent.
I just got another email (c'mon people, it's 6am on a Saturday!) and the keyboard sounds are now back.
My wake up alarm just sounded and my keyboard audio is gone again.
Didn't notice this until the iOS 5.1 update.  It definitely did not occur previously, as I used my iPhone for music driving cross country the week prior to the update.
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • How do I bring back my music?

When I was downloading videos, I went to go sync them but then it said something about erasing and I wasn't sure what to do because it looked like I didn't have a choice and I did and all my music is gone, how do I bring it back?

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For other music you will have to get it from where you got it before
