Will Safari on iPad play mov files?

From the forum I see iPad does not play mov format. Is this true with Safari on iPad too? Is there a plugin? Will the latest update fix this?
Only recommendations I have seen on forum is convert to MP4. Not very helpful if browsing the Internet and it is not my content.

  • Quicktime not playing .mov files

i have a problem with quicktime. it doesn't play .mov files. if i try to play .mov files that are embedded in a .pdf file, a window opens but stays blank, although the progress bar moves. if i try to open the files in quicktime, there's no window, just the progress bar that moves. i run the latest version. i've already tried reinstalling - didn't help, uninstalling completely and installing - didn't help.
    help?
    many thanks!
    diana

    Quicktime>Quicktime Player Preferences>Advanced
Click on the MIME Settings button.
In the next window that opens up make sure that Streaming-Streaming movies is enabled (checked).
While you’re at it make sure all the boxes are enabled by clicking on the corresponding triangles so that they are pointed down.
This will show the “hidden” boxes especially the *QuickTime Movie* box. This box will enable you to play .mov files.
    Click the OK button.

  • Problems playing .mov files in QuickTime 7.2.0

    Hey everyone!
I have a problem with my QuickTimePlayer.exe application. It will play all other movies just fine, except for .mov files. It will open them and play .mov files, the sound will be fine, but the video is extremely choppy.
I FINALLY got to play .mov files by uninstalling QuickTime 7.2.0 and installing the Vista Codec Package 4.4.8, which contains QuickTime Alternative. The only problem is that it doesn't come with QuickTimePlayer.exe, which is what I want my .mov files to open with.
After hours of installing, uninstalling, and re-installing codecs, I discovered that it wasn't a codec problem at all. It was the QuickTimePlayer.exe application that was the issue.
But what's weird is that the exact same version of QuickTime on another computer will run .mov files *WITH QUICKTIMEPLAYER.EXE!!* So there's something going on with some settings in my computer.
I can't seem to figure this out. Does anyone else know what the problem could be? Thanks in advance!
    Brent

I've discovered the problem!! It was the latest release of the NVIDIA nForce drivers that were the issue.
For as to WHY this specifically affected the playback of .mov files, I can imagine how. It's weird how the one thing you least expect to be the problem actually IS the problem.
Anybody have any idea how it affects it?

  • Play mov files on iPad?

iPads supposedly play mov files.  However iTunes won't let them copy.  How can I get mov files to an iPad and then playthem?

    The iPad 2 supports:
    Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
    MPEG‑4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
You can convert the format to an iPad compatible one use a converter computr program like the free HandBrake. You can also purchase an app that will play .mov format videos. You will use FileSharing to transfer them to the iPad. Here is one free app.

  • Quicktime will not play .mov files since Lion installation

When using Quicktime 10.6, I am receiving the error message "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." when attempting to open .mov files.  Prior to installing OS X Lion, there were no issues with playing .mov files.

I'm having the same problem. Using a clean install of Mac OS X (10.7) Lion and QuickTime 10.1.
    If I go to finder:
I can click on Icon's Play arrow and the Movie will play in the icon.
I can click on the file icon and press the spacebar and the file will play in QuickLook.
If I doubleclick on the icon to open the file in QuickTime, I get the "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." message.
If I right click on the icon and click open with... QuickTime, I get the "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." message.

  • Are there any digital/video frames that will play .mov files?

are there any digital/video frames that will play .mov files?

    Hi
Not understanding Your Question - I can only guess
.mov - are no specific Video Format (Codec) it is a container (read folder) and can hold Codecs many program can use and NOT.
QuickTime Player use to open many of them - try this and if it opens then Open Inspector [ cmd + I ] and read
    • Video Format (Codec): nnnnnnnnnn
    • Frame Rate: yyyyyyy
    What does they say
When QT-Players don't open - I use VLC-Player (Google it and download for free). It use to take most of the Codecs.

  • Automator only playing .mov files

I am working with Automator trying to create a simple video scheduling app. I created a workflow that ...
    1. Gets a specific movie
    2. Plays the movie full screen.
Everything is tied into iCal and seems to work well except that I can only play .mov files. mp4 files and .avi files will play in Quicktime Player but will not when called through this workscript/app.
    Any thoughts?

I'm not sure if this is even the right forum so I apologize if it's not.  Just trying to get an aswer about playing my .mov files.
I have the new Ipad and I have been recording videos.  I'm looking to get these videos online on my website.
What is the best way to put this on my website so there is a video player and all.
Right now I just added the videos online but there are no play, pause and rewind options and its just 1 big page of video.
Your question is somewhat ambiguous. How you place the files on your web site will depend on how you are creating/managing the web site and how you plan for viewers to watch them. This can range from simply loading the files to an online server and accessing the content directly by its URL in a compatible browser app like Safari or dedicated players like QT 7, QT X, MPEG Streamclip, VLC, or devices like the iPad, iPhone, etc. to embedding/calling specialized "viwers/players" from within the programmed web page.
Not being a web site programmer myself, I normally just transfer the content to my system and either copy the files directly to my server or use iWeb to publish the files to my server for more generic web site viewing.

  • Playing.mov files

I took several movies with my iPad.  Bought a generic flash drive from Staples.  Connected iPad to iMac, brought up iTunes.  All the movies and several photos came up.  Copied the files to flash drive to give to friend.  Tried to test play the files.  Photos would not come up.  Movies would not either.  All kinds of  gibbersh about codecs and wrong formats etc.  Took flash drive to Windows PC, similar messages.  Made the mistake of deleting the files after they were imported from iPad now they are lost e.g. not is trash bin.  Why is it so difficult to do what I used to do with eyes closed on a PC?

I'm searching for a solution to the same problem. I will be more specific: any .move file I had on my drive no longer works, QuickTime complaining with a -2048 error (not a file QuickTime understands). A few of these files I downloaded as little as two days ago, and now they no longer open.

  • Can ipad play rmvb files?

    can ipad play rmvb files?

Here is a shot introduction about RMVB format:
RMVB files are famous for distributing Asian content, especially Chinese television episodes and movies. For this reason, they have become noticeably present on file sharing platforms such as BitTorrent, eDonkey and Gnutella. But it is not entirely popular, partly due to their incompatibility with other media players like iPhone, iPod, iPad, iTunes, QuickTime, iMovie, Android, Xbox 360, PS3, Apple TV and more. That is what more and more people are trying their best to seek a way to play RMVB on Mac and Windows.
From above, we know that iPad does not support RMVB files. To play RMVB files in iPad and above devices, even more, you'd better to convert RMVB to some more common formats like MP4.
Hope it will help you more or less.

  • What application will allow me to play movies with an external disc drive?

What application will allow me to play movies with an external disc drive? I recently purchased an external disc drive and when testing it discovered that it only played the audio of the DVD, not the video.  Very frustrated.

Are you referrring to a commercial DVD movie, or a disk with digital movies, such as mpeg files?

  • Safari no longer plays mp3 files (OS X 10.9.5 Safari 7.1). Help!

I have a 6-month-old MacBook Pro (13" Classic) running OS X 10.9.5. I use Safari 99% of the time to browse the web (version 7.1). Quicktime Player 10.3.
All of a sudden (this week), Safari has stopped playing mp3 files. I have always been able to click on a link to an mp3 file and it would play in the browser. Now, this has stopped working. It does open a black page with the audio scroll bar showing. However, the arrow will not respond if I click it and it just says "Loading..." forever.
    What's up?!

Force quit Safari and relaunch it while holding down the shift key.

  • Quicktime will not allow playback of .mov files (format DVCPRO HD)

    hi
i'm unable to play .mov files with quicktime application. i am using mac 10.4.11 and have the latest version of quicktime 7.4.5.
when i click the files the screen shows only white, and sometimes only audio, no images.
i am unsure if upgrading to quicktime pro would solve this, or if i need to download additional plug ins to support .mov playback.
i have opened to the movie inspector page and it does not tell me what plug in is needed - it lists the source, format, fps, playing fps (when available), data size, data rate, current time, duration and normal size.
how do i find which plug in i need?
    thanks for hopefully helping. sara

I actually found a link to download the missing components that you listed. i installed the package and it now shows under hard drive / library / quicktime but the HD files will still not play in Quicktime.
could this be because i do not have FCP?
I do not need to edit with the clips - merely to be able to playback to review.
    thanks sara

  • Can't play .mov file!!

    hello,
i'm having some trouble playing .mov-files.. I can watch trailers on apple.com but when I have a mov-file on the pc, it opens with a flashy green screen and pressing play will only give my a static (mostly green) and no noise.. this goes also for iTunes, movies there i cannot open but i can watch them on my ipod..
    anybody any ideas?
    thanks

What codec is this HD file? If they shot and captured in the Sony XDCAM EX format, FCP 5.1.4 won't be able to see that. The XDCAM EX support comes only with FCP 6.0.3.

  • IOS 6.0.1 Safari won't play audio files. Error: "Cannot play audio file."

I recently updated my iPad to iOS 6.0.1, now Safari won't play audio files in any format. Error: "Cannot play audio file." Previously, it worked fine. I tried downloading and using GoogleChrome and Opera Mini, and these also won't play audio. What's up??

Solved the problem. It seems that once iOS 6.0.1 installed, it caused all of my browsers to mishandle audio files. When I reset the iPad, that cleared up the problem.
Before upgrading to iOS 6, my browsers would "autoplay" the sound files. After iOS 6, "autoplay" is disabled so you have to manually click play to play them.
Nonetheless, everything is working fine again except for "autoplay," which I can live with.
