Will setting up a new iPhone 6 Plus from a back up of my iPhone 5 destroy functionality like Touch ID?

Hi Folks.
I have an iPhone 6 Plus on order. My plan when it turns up is to set it up from a backup of my current iPhone 5 running iOS 8.0.2 via iTunes and direct cable link.
Will setting the phone up this way interfere with apps like TouchID that will be present on the new phone but obviously not on my iPhone 5?
Am also concerned over the possibility of overwriting versions of apps specific to and shipped on the 6 Plus with older versions of the same apps in the iTunes backup. Is there some intelligence in the process for setting up a new phone from a backup of your old one that will ensure the latest available and relevant apps are what I'm left with on the 6 Plus at the end of the process?

Mike... not sure if you have already received your new 6 Plus however one thing I ran into last night is the 6 Plus came with iOS 8.0.2 and it required iOS 8.1 to restore from back-up. So I had to proceed without restoring to enable me to update the iOS. From reading other post I believe I'll now need to access iCloud backups is to Erase all content and settings, go thru the setup assistant, and when prompted to restore from iCloud backup - choose that option.

What apps are you referring to specifically. If they are preinstalled apps they cannot be deleted so may have been moved it onto a screen or into a folder, the Utilities folder seems to be a common folder for them to move to. Check all screens and folders and do a search in Spotlight, it will tell you if the app it still on your iPhone but unfortunately not where it is. If you find it on one or your screens or in a folder, press the icon until it wiggles and then drag it back to where you want it. Alternatively you can reset your home screen in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

In the Music tab of iTunes, do you have 'Include Voice Memos' checked?

If you are missing using google maps - try the Nokia map app called "here"

I just recently upgraded from a 4S to a 5C. I backloaded the 5 from Itunes and now everytime i plug into itunes, it asks if I want to set up as new or restore from a previous backup. Why is it doing this. I did it twice yesterday.....

I figure that either of those options will result in losing all SMS and data created since the last backup. Not a major loss, but ** annoying when nothing has changed and the time it will take to restore.
When was the last time you synced your iPhone with iTunes since the backup is updated as the first step during the sync process?
Is there anyway to recover this WITHOUT having to do a full restore or set up as new?

If I do restore or set up as new, how do I know it's not going to do the same thing tomorrow (like a few other forums threads I've read indicate might happen)?
There is no way to know for certain but I've never experienced the same in the first place. I venture to say having to do this is the exception rather than the rule.

you can connect the iPhone to your mac and import those iPhone photos and videos to iPhoto assuming you have iPhoto. You can create a folder and export all those photos to the Finder. Keep safe somewhere. Also keep the iPhoto library for safe keeping. When you restore your iPhone you can sync all those photos back to the iPhone. so you will lose nothing. Just remember when you export from iPhoto select jpeg for photos and original for videos taken with the iPhone.

Connect the two via Firewire cable - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Boot the old iMac into Target Disk Mode. Boot the new iMac normally.
If you are starting the new iMac for the first time then do the above before you turn on the new iMac. After you turn on the new iMac you will begin in the Setup Assistant. You could open that contact in messages, and your iPhone should say "iMessage" instead of "Message" in the text field. However, this depends wether the contact has iMessage enabled, but it could also mean the contact is using an iPad or iPod touch.
Make sure that their mobile number is in iMessage, and if the text field says "iMessage", then they are using an iPhone (if they've enabled it).

If you are not a registered developer, you are a thief. Pay to join the developers program so you can take this to the developers forums or wait for the final release in the fall.

The iPhone has a proximity sensor located on the top of the phone near the earphone speaker that is supposed to automatically turn off the screen when it is close to your face while on a call, to prevent that very thing from happening. If your phone isn't doing that, try cleaning your screen. Also, if you put a screen protector on your phone made for a different model it may lack the cut-out that is supposed to keep it from blocking the sensor. Try removing your screen protector to see if that helps. If it does, get another screen protector.
