Will Siri be able to turn off bluetooth/wifi?

According to reports, there are many things Siri can do that are not being directly advertised. I've seen the "complete" list (http://www.tuaw.com/2011/10/05/iphone-4s-what-can-you-say-to-siri/) but apparently there is even more you can do. I was wondering if Apple had an end-all manual of the possible things you can do - and more importantly, if toggling wifi/bluetooth is one of them.

I'm afraid anyone who knows is not allowed to say, and anyone who doesn't know can't say. We'll all just have to wait and find out.

  • Possible to turn off bluetooth & wifi radios from Vista?

Anyone seen a utilty that will allow you to turn off the wireless and Bluetooth radios from Vista as you can do in Leopard to preserve power?

Go to start menu, write "Device Manager" at the bottom and select it in the search-results. Once there browse to whatever you want to enable/disable, right-click and select "disable".
(don't disable graphics or other important stuff.. windows has no protection from stupidity
On a PC you usually have a physical button on your laptop for switching on/off the Bluetooth or wifi radio, but all that usually does is disable the driver, so the above should work just as well.

I am looking for an app that will turn on/off bluetooth/WiFi without having to dig through the settings app

ok.. i am new to iphone and iOS and i just thought there might be some solution for this. Since they have the new notifications similar to Android, i was hoping there will be some simple app for this. Thats all.
If there is no solution, you can say its not possible. I dont want you to tell me if I have to go back to Android or not. I bought iphone 4s becasue i liked it.

  • Will we ever be able to turn off faces and places in iphoto?

Will we ever be able to turn off faces and places in iphoto? Ever?

Thanks for the response.  I was hoping I'd just missed where to turn off faces.  Yes, I can ignore, but it's annoying when it's constantly asking me for the names of light/shadow patterns that have nothing to do with people (most of my photography is not of people).  I'd forgotten places can be turned off, and apparently I do have it turned off, but I still get the box with the world map open all the time.
    Anyway, thanks for your help!

  • AppleScript to turn off Bluetooth after an hour of no usage

I'm interested in making an AppleScript that will turn off Bluetooth after a bluetooth device is not used for (let's say) one hour. The script should run only on battery life, not when the computer is plugged in.
Any ideas on how to start? Thanks.

I don't think there's any way (at least easy way) to do this.
AppleScript is very good at initiating events, but not good at responding to them. As such it's not easy to write a script in this manner. About the only way to do this would be to have a stay-open script that periodically checks the list of connected devices and keeps track of when the last bluetooth device was used - however, there's a big difference between being 'used' and being 'connected'... you may have a bluetooth headset 'connected', but if you're not running any audio apps it might not be used, and that's hard to AppleScript to determine.

  • My elderly mother hss EXTREMELY limited vision and is a technophobe. I am considering an iPhone with Siri.  Can I turn off everything else so she can use only the phone app and voice dialing and not accidentally open any other app and screw something

My elderly mother has EXTREMELY limited vision and is a technophobe. I am considering an iPhone with Siri.  Can I turn off everything else so she can use only the phone app and voice dialing or Siri and not accidentally open any other app and screw something up.

I'm asking, in all seriousness, why do you think your mother needs an iPhone? Honestly, if your mother is, as you described her, a technophobe, I would recommend against getting an iPhone or any other smartphone. I've spent a fair bit of time teaching older folks to use smartphones. If they are interested in learning, it's fine. If they have the phone because their kids or grandkids thought it was a good idea but they are afraid of the phone or not interested in its features, it doesn't go well at all.
Many basic phones have voice dialing. Obviously, it doesn't do all the things Siri does but it may be much less intimidating for your mom. Also, basic phones have hardware keys. Even someone with limited vision can learn the keyboard on such a phone. From the sound of your first post, all she will be doing is making phone calls.
    Best of luck.

  • Smart Connect can't turn off Bluetooth

    Hello,
I purchased an Xperia Z3 Compact and Smart Connect is unable to turn off Bluetooth at the end of an action.  Below is the setup I have been trying to get work.
    - Bluetooth turned on manually
    - Turn on Bluetooth headphones.
    Smart Connect:
     - Start Action:
         - Connect Bluetooth headphones
         - Start Walkman App
         - Play track
         - Adjust Volumes
    - End Action:
         -Disconnect Bluetooth headphones
         - Pause track
         - Turn off Bluetooth
The problem is that the Bluetooth will not turn off and I must do it manually.  The Bluetooth on and off works for wired headphones, but not for Bluetooth headphones.  Can this be addressed or at least send me information to get this fixed?
    Thanks

I have this exact problem with my new Z2.
    - End Action:
         - Adjust Volumes: set wrong volumes
         - Turn off Bluetooth: does not work
Sony, fix it with an update, please!

  • Command Line to emulate Turn-Off Bluetooth Switch Function

We are looking to initially turn-off the bluetooth function on our deployed computers unless the user specifically needs it. We have already tested two command options: Turn off Bluetooth support service and Disable Bluetooth adapter. Neither of these will
toggle the switch found in Metro's PC and Device Settings, so the device still shows as ON and confuses the user.
Can someone help us find the command line to execute that will emulate triggering this switch to Off?

    Hi,
Based on my research, thereis a poershell cmdlets that used to manage Device should be helpful with your requirement:

It provide a command to disable device:

    PowerShell
     $deviceName = Read-Host -Prompt 'Please enter the Name of the Device to Disable'; Get-Device | Where-Object -Property Name -Like $deviceName | Disable-Device

  • Cannot turn off Bluetooth on B series (B320 i5)

Whenever the computer starts, the Bluetooth light will be turned on. Although I have removed all Bluetooth related applications and there is no Bluetooth device shown on Computer Device list.
I have checked BIOS. There is no way to turn-off, too.
Is there any way to turn-off Bluetooth light?
It is esstential that if the Bluetooth and Wifi lights are turned-on, my computer will be hanged very frequently even I restore from the original factory image.
Please advise what I can do. Thanks.

You may disable the Bluetooth device from the Device Manager if it helps you.
To uninstall the Bluetooth driver, you need uninstall it from the device manager and if prompts to delete installation folder please proceed.
After this please go to Control Panel and check for Bluetooth software, if it is there then uninstall it.
Please check this if it resolve the issue for you.
    Best Regard,
    Tanuj

  • Why will my iPhone 4s not turn off?

Why will my iPhone 4s not turn off?

I may be experiencing a similar problem. My scenario is that the phone (4s) is 2 weeks old and won't power off. I hold down the button on the upper right for a few seconds, an option comes up to swipe to the right to "power off" the phone. I swipe this to the right and the phone powers off for only a few seconds and then automatically turns itself back on. This is a new problem for this phone. I was able to power it off previously, so I'm confident that it's not "pilot error". Here's something curious; if the phone is plugged into a wall charger it will power off and stay that way until disconnected from the outlet, even if the charger is still connected to the phone. I took this phone to an Apple store and the guy that helped me cleaned out the charging port claiming it was dirty and was successful at getting the phone to power off. However, by the next day the phone would not power off again. I found the dirty port thing a little curious while telling this story to a work mate and seeing his iPhones charging port clogged with plenty of visible dirt, lint and who knows what else, yet his phone works flawlessly. My charging port looks perfectly clean.

  • Ugh! How to navigate when you have a dead Mouse / Trackpad or accidentally turned off bluetooth

    Wow...
Did a stupid thing and turned off bluetooth on my Mac and watched as my Apple Magic Mouse and Apple Magic Trackpad dissapeared and left me stranded.
For those of you dead in the water unable to navigate your Mac here are some tips:
Reboot your Mac and Zap your PRAM which will force the Mac to turn on bluetooth again.  Shut down the computer by holding the power button.  Hold down Command (the Apple icon 4 leaf clover key), Option, P and R keys together and hold them all down after you turn on the Mac.  If you do this before the grey screen you'll see the Mac chime and restart.  You can now let go of your keys and see if BlueTooth can now discover your devices.
If you haven't already swapped out batteries in your Mouse, Keyboard or Trackpad please do so.  Be sure to not mix batteries of different types in the device.
If you have keyboard access, but not your mouse or trackpad you can press the Option Key 5 times and then your numeric pad should move the mouse allowing you to navigate to things like System Preferences, Bluetooth to turn it back on!
If you have a USB mouse you can plug it in, navigate your mac and turn bluetooth back on.
If you have Apple Screen Share or Apple Remote Access you can use another Mac to log into your Mac and turn on bluetooth.
Serious Accessbility Feature Requests for Apple (and yes I know this isn't the forum or place to put this, but it needs to be said):
You need to go back and fix 10.8.4 to allow complete navigation of a Mac with a keyboard only.  You can use Command + SpaceBar and type System Preferences and then type BlueTooth, but once you are in the Bluetooth settings you can't use your keyboard to navigate to the ON option.
You can't also navigate into System Preferences / Accessibility to turn Enable Mouse Keys (you need a mouse to turn this option on!).  The Mouse & Trackpad options should be made so that a keyboard could turn on/off this feature, because a lot of people trying to turn on this feature are folks like me who lost mouse/trackpad access!!
Hopefully this helps others!  Hopefully Apple will do some basic UI improvements to bring back OS navigation for users who only have access to a keyboard or just a mouse/trackpad (no physical keyboard).  These kinds of tests should be part of every major OS release!

  • My wifi wasn't working for more than 10 minutes at a time after updating to IOS8 and resetting network settings. I turned off google drive, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings and rebooted my iPad4. So far so good.

I have an ipad4.  Wifi keeps cutting out after the upgrade even after I forget the network and resign on or reset all network settings. I deleted iCloud drive from my iPad, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings, and rebooted my iPad. Since I upgraded to IOS8 this is the longest wifi has consistently been working for me. Which is approximately an hour now. Anyone else find that this worked or have figured out if this or anything out there is a permanent fix?

It sounds like you have been on the right track in troubleshooting this issue. If you are still having issues, you may want to double-check the steps outlined in the following article, in order if possible (apologies for replicating any steps you have already taken):
