Will Snow Leopard run older PPC software, pre-universal binary stuff?

Hi there
I know this is probably the most stupid question in the world, and I know that Snow Leopard dropped support for PPC and is intel only.
Does this mean that I could no longer run my CS2, MS Office 2004 and Quark 6.5 (as none of these were universal binary apps, and are all written for PPC architecture)? Or is it just SL will only install on Intel macs?

PPC is supported, but there are some PPC applications that are too old for Snow Leopard. You should check all that you use for the latest info BEFORE updating. I think there are problems with CS2. It is not officially supported in Leopard, but may work there. CS3 is not officially supported, but does work.
Is there a 'best' way to upgrade? clean install and retrieve data from time machine backup? Complete rebuild? Install over the top of Leopard?
Any method should work if your applications are up to date, and your existing system has no problems. If your current system is old, though, it may have some forgotten applications or modifications that could cause upgrade problems.
The safest way (but more work) is to erase the drive, install Snow Leopard, update to 10.6.2, copy just user accounts and data from your Time Machine backup, and install the latest versions of applications.
If possible, make a bootable backup of your system drive before you start. That will protect you against any possible problems with the Time Machine backup.

Had no problem installing but some of the software would not run.!
Went to websites and found some work arounds.
Specifically i was using virtual box to run win xp and now it will not allow me to

The first question is whether or not your Mac Mini has an Intel processor. Do +Apple > About This Mac+ if you need to find out. It will tell you what processor is in your mini. (Snow Leopard can only be installed on Intel based Macs.)

It depends on your Macbook model how to open the bottom case.
Anyway you need to open up the buttom case or keyboard panel to access the CPU fan like following.

If you think you can't do that by yourself, you'd better bring it to Apple Store Genius Bar or Authorized Servce Shop to tell them about the problem.

My app will no longer run under Snow Leopard, runs fine under Lion.

My app will no longer run under Snow Leopard, even though it was originally written for Snow Leopard. It runs fine on my Dev machine under Lion. But when I test it on my Snow Leopard Mac Mini the app starts but the window does not appear. Going to file, new window does nothing. My depolyment target is set to 10.6. Is there something I did to make my app lose Snow Leopard compatiblty?

Does your application use features only available in Lion? Are you getting any console logs?

It depends on which Mac mini model it is. Append the last three characters of the computer's serial number to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= and see what the minimum and maximum Mac OS X versions are for it. If it's too new to boot 10.6.8, it can still run it inside a product such as VirtualBox.

Are there any problems with Snow Leopard Server (Xserve) and PPC Clients

are there any problems identified yet with Snow Leopard Server, installed on a Xserve and PPC Clients running Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard?
Currently I have a Xserve Intel running Leopard Server and about 12 Mac Minis PPC running Mac OS X Tiger and Mac OS X Leopard. The Xserve serves services like DNS, OpenDirectory, Software Update Server, NetBoot, etc. All users have Home Directories stored on the Xserve.
Now I want to install Snow Leoaprd Server on the Xserve, but I wonder if there are any problems using the PPC Clients? I have read something like this on a german website.

We've actually found that the Server 10.6.3 DVD does an amazingly smooth job of upgrading 10.5.8. We've been upgrading our production servers and nothing has gone wrong yet. Snow Leopard employs an archive and install method of upgrading which results in an install which is very close to a clean install. So it's been very convenient for us because our servers are used as Windows PDCs and it's a pain in the *** to have to re-join all PCs to the domain if we start from scratch.

Moving mail from Snow Leopard running on an external disk

I have been operating my computer with Snow Leopard on an external Hard Drive for quite some time and downloaded Mountain Lion onto my internal disk so I could play with it before making the big plunge. I have not set up the Mail program on Mountain Lion but now want to move my mail setup from Snow Leopard.
How do I do that? Will I be able to keep my folders etc.?

Though you have not provided the model number of the MBP, I suspect that the given unit came with an OS newer than 10.5. A MBP will not run an older version OS than the original.

Will Snow Leopard update from iPhoto '09 to '011?

On my iMac I use iLife '09 and was going to upgrade iPhoto to '011 but it looks from the App Store as though I need OS v10.7.5 whereas I am on 10.6.8. I know somebody who has the same OS as mine and also runs iPhoto '011 but on v9.2.3. Will the latest version of v9.4.2 work with Snow Leopard?

What scanner is it? Have you checked the developer's website to see if they offer drivers for Lion or Mt. Lion?

I am a noob when it comes to macs as I am more of a windows person :o but I have a macbook to. I am looking to preorder for a mac snow leopard upgrade. but I was wondering when you install the new OS will it wipe my harddrive like it would on a pc

I preordered myself and am also a noob to Apple computers.
I believe it will be fine because of you read the apple write up is says that it looks for programs that won't run on it and "puts them aside." This statement tells me that it doesn't erase the programs. I hope for you me and everyone else i'm correct.

How can I get Snow Leopard running

I have a 13'' Macbook that was running perfectly fine - I haven't had one issue since I bought it. I bought the iphone 5 and needed to upgrade my itunes to version 7. I was running Leopard 10.5.8 and needed to upgrade my OS to Snow Leopard in order to get itunes. I ordered the software (10.6.3) and installed it on my computer. The installation said it was successful. I restarted my computer but I received a blinking folder with a question mark on it so I googled some solutions to see what could have gone wrong because the installation was successful.
I have tried holding c, option, resetting the pram, disconnecting my battery and pressing the power button for 5 seconds, erasing my HD drive, restoring the HD drive with a Time Machine Backup, and everything else I was told to do but I can not get my computer up and running. If I restart it, I keep receiving the blinking folder with the question mark. I'm not sure how it can not recognize a OS when I go to Startup Disk, it lists my OS being 10.6.3. When I boot the computer from the dvd, it just continues to ask me to install the software each time and I'm going in circles.
Can someone please tell me what to do? It seems that Apple doesn't know what to do, my hard drive was repaired (it wasn't broken), and the installation is going through sucessfully, why can't I get my computer running?
HELP! I'm a photographer and graphic designer and can't afford to be out of commission. All I did was install a software, this shouldn't be this difficult.

Snow Leopard Running Extremely Slow

Hello,
Recently installed Snow Leopard and everything has been running slow from web pages loading to editing and rendering in FCP.
I had no speed issues with Tiger.
I have verified disk permissions and repaired, and everything is still running slow.
Plenty of space left on hard drive.
Please help.
