Will speakers play if connected to hdmi screen without speakers?

I have just ordered a Macbook Air. I have an external monitor that has speakers seperate. If I use a minidisplay port to hdmi adaptor to connect to the monitor, will the sound be able to be played out of the speakers of the Air? If not, can I connect an audio jack and have it play through the seperate speakers?

If you’re trying to listen through speakers or headphones connected only to the USB port on your computer or computer’s display, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output. Make sure the external USB speakers are selected. Open System Information, and make sure you see your speakers listed.
If your external speakers still aren’t working, check the information that came with your speakers.

You might need to use recovery mode to restore your device in these cases:

Turn off your device and leave it off.

Any way to get out of connect to iTunes screen without restoring factory settings?

I accidentally started the newest update before backing up to iCloud. Now I have the connect to iTunes screen and can't get around restoring to factory settings. Is there anything I can do to bypass this step? Or undo upgrade?

AS you have tagged this post with iOS 6.1.3 and iMessages it is difficult to tell whether you want the answer for iPhone or iPad.
iMessages can do groups or multi-person Conversations as long as you enter the names in the "To" field before your start typing the message.

If you mean in the Messages app an AIM Buddy list can do Groups chats.
Jabber Buddy lists vary according to the set up of the server involved.
You don't have to turn Off the iMessages ability.
You either start from a Buddy List or select Buddies in the Blue + icon drop down.

Firefox will not play videos. A green screen shows instead. Same sites work in IE. Problem just started this week. How can I fix this?

The sound works -- it's just that video is replaced by a solid green screen.

I found the problem, and I don't think it is with Firefox or Adobe. I have Radeon Graphics running on a Intel Core i7 computer and I was able to solve this problem by opening the Catalyst Control Center and clicking on one setting and applying.
Open your Catalyst Control Center (it may be an icon on your desktop, in the start menu, or accessed via right clicking the desktop and selecting "Graphics Properties") and click on the "power" icon. From there you select "Switchable Graphics", and there should be an area for "recent applications". If you do not see any recent applications, I would re-download the flash player, access a website that uses it, and then retry the above instructions. There should be a "button" to the right of the Flash Player Application and select it until it says "power saving" and select apply. I also tried using "high performance" as a setting and the green screen remained. I am using Catalyst Control Center version 2011.1205.2215.39827, and cannot say if the above instructions will work with any other version.

TS3274 Video app will not play videos just a black screen

I have downloaded videos on my iPad. I press the video app and all I get is a black screen. I have turned off plus restarted the iPad STILL I get nothing. What welsh is there to do? Thanks

I have been having this same problem since the update. Are you running No-Script by chance? That is what was causing me an issue with embedded videos like on Vevo on Youtube, or youtube videos on news sites which would give me "An error has occured" message. Even if I allowed all scripts on the page, or even globally, the video would always return that error. By disabling NoScript, I was able to watch videos again on all of the sites I was having a problem with.
I tested this on another computer with Firefox 3.5. Videos worked fine as long as NoScript was allowing their host (youtube.com, etc) Seems like there is some sort of issue with NoScript and Firefox 3.6.15.

HT204382 Telestream finds the plugged in HDVR file but will not play..blank black screen no sound or picture. DivX will not download. Error report sent to Apple. Any ideas how to import / play AVI files?

ITunes movies will not play; blank window.

I recently purchased several HD movies from the iTunes Store (~$15.00 or more each), and now I've discovered they will not play on my MacPro (I do not own a TV.)
When I click the movies a separate window opens (as usual), but it remains black and nothing plays, If I move the movie window to another screen (I have three 30" Apple Cinema displays connected to a 2010 MacPro) the movies still will not play on any of the screens. If I change the iTunes settings to open the movie in the iTunes window, the movies still does not play. This problem seems to be recent, I have purchased MANY HD moves/TV shows from the ITunes store and have not had this problem until very recently (a month or so.)
If I try to open the movie with QuickTime instead of iTunes I get this message: "This movie cannot be played because it is on a display that is not authorized to play protected movies. Try moving this window to a different display or disconnecting any displays that are not HDCP authorized."
The only thing I can find buried in the iTunes Terms and Conditions is "(viii) An HDCP connection is required to view content transmitted over HDMI." But I am not transmitting over HDMI, the displays are connected directly to the MacPro and I don't have any HDMI cables connected to the machine. There is NOTHING at the time of purchase that indicates the HD movie will not play on my Apple displays.
Is it just the HD version of the movie? Would the SD version play OK?
How can the displays I'm using not be "authorized" it's an Apple display, using Apple cables/adapters connected to an Apple MacPro.
Any insight, information, or constructive help would be greatly appreciated (I do have a Apple support call scheduled for tomorrow...)

HT1454 iPad connection to HDMI TV

I have an iPad 3 and Sumsung HD TV with an HDMI input. Is their a cable out there that will allow me to connect my iPad to my TV so I can stream video/pictures, etc. to my nice big screen TV? My iPad has the lightning jack and I don't see any HDMI to lightning connectors to support this connection. Thanks for your help with this.

My Ipad (purchased 5/12) constantly switches screens without prompting. This happens about every 3 seconds.

I purchased my iPad 5/12. Since a recent trip inwhich I used a verizon hotspot device to stay connected, it switches screens without prompting. New screens pop up about every 3-5 seconds. How can I reset?

Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider.

If i shut my screen while music is playing the next time I open it music will not play on built in speakers or through the audio port

Title explains most of it. I i am listening to itunes or any other music program and I shut my screen without first pausing the music, then the next time I open my laptop and try to play music no sound comes out. I've tried messing with the speaker configurations with no prevail. If I restart my laptop everything will work fine again, but this can get annoyying if I forget to pause my music. Also if it's a bigger issue I want to get it fixed while it's on warrenty.

Right - unplug the external speakers before putting or allowing the systemt to sleep. The same issue happens when users sleep with headphones attached.

Ive deleted airport utility and reinstalled it. i shutdown my phone and the airport base and wifii and restarted everything. nothing seems to b helping.

I just encountered this problem for the first time and stumbled upon this forum to find a solution. I played around with it a bit and it seems that if you slide your finger from the bottom up, you will come upon that new screen that will allow you to do various functions with your phone (put it in airport mode, lock, etc.), you can select your Airport from this screen and play your music wirelessly from your phone; at least this was my experience. Audio speakers not working, says connected to HDMI but not

So last night i spilt a small ammount of water on my laptop on the left hand side, i dried it off and today i come to find out that the mute button doesnt change color but works. My Cap's Lock light doesnt show, and says im connected to an HDMI for sound. when i connect headphones it still doesnt play through. when i open the sound menu from control panel it says that the (built-in) speakers are not connected. Is there a fix for this?

This is due to a local network issue. The signal strength on the device doesn't account for any issues, you need to go to istumbler or similar to get a network report (to see full representation of signal, noise, and nearby networks. Trying ethernet will also help rule out wifi issues. You are also free to test on another network (preferably a controlled one like Apple's)

Audio Driver Update, Will not play audio via HDMI cable now...

I just did a driver update for the realtek audio on my Y70 touch. When I plug the HDMI cable into the receiver (TV & speakers), it will still transfer the image to the TV and reformat the screen, but now the audio will not play unless I make the room speakers the default audio instead of the laptop speakers... That is just a real PITA to keep switching the default every time I wanted to do something on the big screen with my computer. Any advice on how to fix that? Preferably without rolling back the driver that was 130MB+ of a download & install that required to restarts to apply. Thanks, Joe

I haven't had mine long but I always have to do that with my tower system. (switch playback device for sound). I played a movie on the Z70 last night and go audio without doing anything (so it is different) but the sound level was low even though I checked the outputs were set to 100% HDMI audio required I turn up the sound at the TV end a lot to hear it. I figure I am missing something but did not want to spend the time troubleshoot, rather tha watch the Netfix movie.

Can not select TV speakers when connected via HDMI

I have a MBP fully updated connected to a Sony TV vis HDMI/miniport. Up until today this configuration was working fine. Suddenly, I can no longer select the HDMI speakers in my audio preferences. They are recognized and appear on the list but when I select them it has no effect. Before today, when the TV was connected the HDMI output would be automatically selected and I could not access the volume control from the menu bar, which is the way I prefer it.
I have restarted with no success in changing this behaviour. If I open/close the lid, the sound goes to the proper settings for about 2s but then the HDMI speakers are de-selected and the built-in speakers are highlighted. I can manually select the TV speakers but the setting has no effect.
However, I *am* getting audio output through the TV but can not control volume from the mac or any app. I slide the volume slider on the menu bar and the audio output does not change. The sound is also playing from the laptop speakers which is highly annoying.

and now there is no audio through the TV at all. TV works fine with other inputs such as PS3. Any help?
