Will SWFs embedded in PDFs play on iPhone\iPad?

Hi
I've been developing a portfolio PDF which uses some Flash features, but with the way things seem to be going for Flash esp. its omission from iOS, I wondered whether this was a good idea for maximum portability esp if potential employers are viewing my portfolio on an Apple device.
So here's the key thing - will Flash files embedded in a PDF play correctly when viewed in Adobe Reader for iPhone\iPad i.e. is the Flash playback functionality contained in Adobe Reader, or does it rely on the Flash player installed in the platform?

First, you can only do this with Acrobat 9. Older methods for embedding SWF's didn't allow for this level of communication between the SWF and the PDF.
Second, to do it, you would add some ActionScript to your SWF that would use the hostContainer methodology to connect to the PDF and then use the appropriate JS methods.

I added a video to my PDF by clicking interactive objects > Video. I then needed to convert the video using Adobe media encoder which I did successfully to a .f4v file and now it will not play on my Iphone/Ipad. What sort of player to I need to make these files work?

Interactive PDF on an iPhone/iPad?

Hi folks...I'm supposed to create an "interactive presentation" for work so I created a document in InDesign and used a lot of buttons to go back and forth between pages, video files for page dividers and a lot of rollovers. I saved the file as a PDF and it works perfectly fine using Acrobat on a mac or pc...all rollovers intact. The boss wants people to be able to view the same PDF on an iPhone and iPad.
Is this even possible? I got a couple PDF apps for my iPhone to test it out and none of the rollovers worked, the movies didn't play and some images ended up going missing. The boss is telling me to find a way to get this to work on them but I don't think there is...at least not with my skillset.
I need to give her reasons why it's NOT working...any ideas? Is there some applicationsn better suited to have it work on the web and iDevices?

Thanks guys. Any ideas what type of software is required to create "interactive" files for the iDevice? Kinda like what Loud Crow did with the Peter Rabbit book where you can pull tabs, flip pages and all that...I'm assuming that's way outta my job expertise.

PDF Error on iPhone/iPad

I use a ticket sales site on safari that when you've finished a sale opens the ticket in pdf format. This used to work fine but recently the ticket is not being recognised as a pdf and instead the ticket is not selectable to save or use with other apps. Is this a security or setting issue with Safari or something else? Nothing has chaged on the site or how the site generates the pdfs and they work fine on other computers, just not the iphone/ipad.

SWF embedded for Auto-play intro

Our 3d designer has made us some neat intros which I can't
seem to get to play on the live server.
I have tried as .flv and .swf with various options like
relative/absolute url, inserting a black slide at start, put the
.swf on another server, etc.
Nothing works on the live server. I haven't asked the server
guys yet, but seems like such an obvious bug must actually be
related to our server?
Any help greatly appreciated.

There are a few threads, but it seems swf is not a search term the forums allow.
It seems that every few days it comes up again in spades, because the issue is then not top-posted any longer.
Anyway, there are two answers... one is the the 'imported swf' is not actually embedded until load - otherwise it sits in your server.
(I think but anyway)
So the swf has to be in there, and also the swf has to be the right type of object.
I'm afraid catalyst is still a bit buggy around this issue, has to be one of the most important things to change.

Hard to believe this is not in the help files - or at least very clearly that I could find, seems a rather obvious application of Catalyst.

Will Flex T9 from Nuance appear on iphone/iPad soon?

Does anyone know whether we are likely to see an alternative text input method for the iPad/iPhone in the near future. I've used Shapewriter (like Swype) on a Windows platform, and really like it. Is there any chance that there'll be a suitable solution for iOS 4 soon?

Thanks Ralph. I suspected that would be the case, but hoped that someone might be able to suggest a source of news which might be willing to speculate!
I've contacted Nuance (the owners of Flex T9) and Shapewriter (the creators of the app of the same name) but neither have come back to me. It's just that Nuance recently launched Flex T9 for androids, and if there is no competing solution for the iPad/iPhone soon, as the market expands, Apple are likely to see much less of the future market. Hey ho, I guess that's their problem...

If I add another account to the messages App, will it notify all other devices (MacBooks, iPhones, iPads etc.) that the account connected to that device is now connected to my computer?

For example,
Say I have my account set up for messages and the email address associated with that account is [email protected] I log out of my account on my MacBook Pro (named John's Macbook Pro, say) and now log in to messages with a new account, [email protected] I have an iPhone and another MacBook Pro that is currently using [email protected] Will those devices (the iPhone and the other Macbook Pro) be notified that "John's MacBook" is now using the account?

Correct. You will see a message on those devices when you add an email account for Messages but only if you are using the same Apple ID in all these devices.

When will Apple allow Wireless Analyzers for the iPhone/iPad?

I know this used to be available prior to iOS 5, but I was curious about the future release of Wireless Analyzers (other than Jailbreaking). I would love to have an App (whether it is an Apple one or 3rd party) for work. Any ideas?

They will allow such an app when someone submits one that doesn't violate Apple's development rules regarding using undocumented API's or accessing core functions that are prohibited to 3rd party apps.

Fillable PDF created on Mac, filled in on Mac's/PC's have empty fields when emailed to iPhone/iPad

I create fillable forms on my Mac using Adobe Acrobat and both PC and Mac customers fill in the forms and submit them to their own customers.
When I fill in the form on my Mac (using Adobe Acrobat) and email it to me and open the PDF on my Android the filled-in information is there.
When I fill in the form on my Mac (using Adobe Acrobat) and email it to my customer and he opens the PDF on his iPhone/iPad all the filled-in information is gone, the fields are blank.
When he fills in the form on his PC (I'm assuming he's on a PC, he may be on Mac but regardless he's having the problem) using the free Reader and emails it to himself and opens the PDF on his iPhone/iPad all the filled-in information is gone, the fields are blank.
What can I do on my end, when using the full Adobe Acrobat on my Mac to create forms, to make them in such a way that when my customer emails a filled-in PDF from their computer the filled-in info stays intact on the iPhones/iPads?
I can't tell each customer individually that he/she has to download a particular app because the PDF viewer on their phone won't show the filled-in information, that would a logistics nightmare, so I need to figure out what to do on my end when initially creating the forms so that the filled-in information will show up on their iPhones/iPads.

There are two basic approaches to this problem:
1. Convince every user to use a compliant PDF viewer, one that supports forms (e.g., Adobe Reader, PDF Expert on iOS)
2. Flatten the form after filling it in and before sending it along for other users to view
You mentioned some of the problems with #1.
For #2, if a form is flattened, the form fields will get converted to regular page contents, allowing non-forms-capable PDF viewers to see the data. Acrobat users can flatten a form a number of ways. The problem is with Reader, which doesn't have a specific form flattening feature. Desktop versions of Reader (Mac/Windows) flatten forms when they are signed with the new EchoSign e-signature feature and saved, but this feature is not available with forms that are Reader-enabled. All this means there is currently no way to guarantee that the data in a filled-in form will be viewable on all mobile PDF viewers, but there are some things you can do to increase the odds.

Unable to play SWF media embedded in PDF

Hello,
Adobe Reader does not play SWF media embedded in PDFs, if SWF version is higher than 6. I get the error "The media clip cannot be played in rhe manner that the author intended. You may need to upgrade your player software or install new player software".
I have installed Adobe Reader 9.3.0 and Acrobat Flash Player 10. Acrobat Flash Player plays all my SWF files without problem in Firefox browser .
If I change version byte to 6 in the SWF media, Reader happily plays it.

Does the router call log on the AW show any error that you can paste? Paste a screenshot of the ICM script maybe?

Generating PDF with Flex App (swf) embedded

Does anyone has the experience in developing a Flex Application that is to be
embedded into a PDF and open in the Reader/Acrobat for data capturing?
How to embed the Flex Application (swf) into a PDF in a Livecycle process?
With the XML data prepopulated into the PDF (embedded with a schema) and
accessible by the Flex Application when open in Reader/Acrobat.
Users will still be able to save the data filled in the Flex Application into the PDF

Based on Adobe Upgrade Center http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/upgrade/pdfgenerator.html, it mentioned that PDF Generator ES2 has the ability to embed SWF files in PDF.
But is this also applicable to Flex Application compiled SWF file?
Does the generated PDF function as a normal interactive form?
Able to retain its embedded schema and objects (scripts)?
I will try to install LC ES2 to try out but need sometime to setup the system, really appreciate if someone can give me a head start.

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

Based on your post it sounds like you would like to sync your iBooks content with your computer. I have located an article that may help you in this situation. While you can sync this data with your computer you can also use the sharing button to send PDFs using various sources:
