Will tech help you set up modem to bridge mode?

Just wondering if they will? Has anyone called them?

Is your FIOS router set for WPA or WPA2 security?
If the FIOS router is set for WEP security, you won;t get a connect as the D-Link 1522 supports only WPA and WPA2.

I just purchased the 2TB TC and set it up on bridge mode to my att verse which is connected via ethernet cable.  The TC is continually blinking amber and an error message states that a wireless network cannot be found but the uverse is functioning great.  The network name I assigned to the TC is also not appearing among available networks.  How do I remedy this, please?

What OS on the computer you are using to setup the TC?
Did you turn on ipv6 for wireless to link-local... this is essential for network access now??
Try power cycling the network.. start up in correct order.. uverse.. 2min wait.. TC.. 2min wait.. computer.
No luck factory reset and start over. Use ethernet cable as well to the computer to help it.
No luck I can show you manual method.

  • Cannot access DSL modem in bridge mode w/ Airport Extreme

    Hi
    I have the following setup:
DSL Modem: Used in bridge mode + NAT/DHCP/Firewall turned off. Static IP is set to 192.168.2.1
Airport Extreme: In PPPOE mode with Shared IP (which is selected by default): Distributes IP range 192.168.1.X with subnet 255.255.255.0. At this point, Airport Extreme's IP address is what it gets from the ISP, basically DSL Modem is passing thru' this to the AE.
Ethernet cable is running from DSL modem to AE's WAN.
In this mode, everything works fine and me and all others can use Internet fine...
But the problem is that I can't ping/ access DSL modem at all in this mode. Basically, I need to login to the DSL modem to monitor my DSL connection quality (SNR, Attenuation, etc.) but whatever I tried I could not figure out how.
Basically, I tried setting a static IP on the DSL modem as 192.168.1.3, this did not work. I read somewhere that it needs to be on a different subnet, so tried using 192.168.2.1, that did not work either.
If I connect the DSL modem to a machine directly and set that machine's IP to 192.168.2.10, it can connect to the DSL modem, but there is no way I could access this DSL modem from the setup I explained above.
I am simply out of solutions at this point and any idea would be appreciated.
    Thanks a ton!

What you are asking about is generally possible but probably not with an Airport Extreme. As others have noted you SHOULD be able to access a DSL modem in bridge mode via it's "lan" IP address if you directly attach a cable to it and configure your computer with appropriate static IP settings (I'm assuming that in bridge mode the DSL modem has it's DHCP server disabled).
This approach can also be achieve through a router with sufficiently flexible configuration options (e.g. openwrt open-source firmware). Basically the router attaches its WAN port to the modem like usual. Then the router is configured to do PPPOE via the WAN port while SIMULTANEOUSLY assigning the WAN port a static IP address that can connect to the modem's LAN address. Finally the router firewall must be configured to pass traffic from the DSL modem LAN IP back to the network.
So your intuition suggesting that this should be possible is absolutely right. However; you can probably also see from the steps required why most modems simply (incorrectly) document that it isn't possible.
Here's a link with some gory details on achieving this with an openwrt-based router: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=10952

  • Modem 6100F Bridge Mode

Hello Everyone, I currently have my modem in bridge Mode. My Modem is a Westell 6100F. It's connected to a Linksys Router Model : WRT120N. Everything is fine, internet connection is good. No problems.
However there is one thing I'm having trouble. I tried connecting my modem directly to the PlayStation 3. The reason is that I want to play with a NAT Type 1. But that's something else. My Main concern is that why am I not able to connect my modem directly to the PS3. I get no internet access. In addition, I tried connecting my modem into another router ( a friend let me borrow his) and still nothing. It seems like my modem is only recognizing my Linksys router for some reason. I wont get any connection to any other devices, router, or even laptops when connecting my modem through the Ethernet cable.
So in conclusion I can only get internet access through my Linksys. Why is that? Why am I not able to connect my modem to a different router? I need you help.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is due to either two reasons when your modem is in bridge mode:
1: You need to establish a PPPoE connection from the device you're connecting up, which your Linksys router is configured to do. This requires the Verizon Username and Password tied to the Verizon account or in OpenPPPoE areas, a username and password combination (anything, really).
2: If you're in a Western service area of Verizon otherwise known as ex-GTE, it's possible you're running on DHCP for obtaining IP address information from Verizon. For this, it's a case of you can plug a device into the modem/router but you must wait two hours to allow the DHCP lease to expire on Verizon's end before you can connect up another device. Many of these DHCP areas on the DSL network have been sold to Frontier Communications and subsquentially moved to use PPPoE or PPPoA authentication, but there are still a good amount of areas in California, for example that use it.
Ultimately, those two things above are what are stopping you. You'll be wanting to Port forward on your router to get NAT 1 or use UPnP. Also make sure your router has updated firmware; sometimes newer firmware helps to resolve forwarding issues seen with game consoles.

  • HT201974 how do you change your airport to bridge mode

how do you change your airport to bridge mode?

See your other post. Please, do not double post on the support forums, as it makes things very confusing.

  • Sorry but I need more help to set up AE as bridge

Hi, I had some advise on how to set up airport Extreme as a bridge (? - I need to extend my network without confusing two or more IP addresses or something like that). I have tried a few thing but really do not know how to connect to the device for the setup. I think the LAN connection from the ISP Modem should go into the "circle" port and the MAC should plug into one of the three <-.-> ports.
In running through AE utility, I end up with it telling me that I do not have an IP address and I should contact my ISP.
If there is someone out there that has the knowledge and patience to give me a step by step guide to connect and configure this setup so that I end up with a reliable network extension that does not clash with the ISP modem Router. I would be very grateful. Thanks!

I will check. I it possible that that was not the model number. I have hooked up the laptop so I can communicate again. and hmmm, sorry it is a 2701 model.
Here's what I have done in the mean time and the information you requested Bob:
Switched everything off again, disconnected the apple TV and 2Wire modem, connected modem, connected AE, waited 3 minutes, switched on Mac Pro then connected to <-.-> port on AE, waited 2 minutes, started up Airport Utility and tried to connect (after upgrading to latest firmware).
    Resulting in Error message:
"An error occurred while updating the configuration.
Make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6737)"
I can report the connections settings prior to changing them:
Connect using: Ethernet (I left this as was)
Configure IPv4: Using DHCP (I set to manually)
Ethernet WANPort: Automatic I l left this as was)
Connection sharing: Share a public IP address (I set to "OFF (Bridge Mode)")
resulting in the error mentioned above..
Does this tel you anything? Should I disconnect my MacBook which is using wifi to 2Wire?
I am going to try to set the AE with the MacBook while I wait for your advice.
    Thanks again! Floor

  • Does anyone know of a work around for this problem? : iphone 5 will not work on Chryslers uconnect.  I found out that they are working on it but have no ETA.   However, they will not help you if your vehicle is older thatn 2008.

Do not get an iphone 5 if you want to use it with a Chrysler product.  The Chrysler Uconnect system might pair with your phone but the uconnect system will usually abend and become unusable after a few telephone conversations.  I have been to the dealer twice.  They have reset the uconnect system twice and I find it works for about 2 to 3 phone calls then it abends and uconnect becomes useless.  They had me call Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753.  I was told that the iphone five is not compatable at this time with any chrysler uconnect phone through the dash system, even the new vehicles.  He had me get on this web site: www.uconnectphone.com as a place to monitor as when it would be compatable.  They told me that Samsung seems to be working harder to make it compatible than apple is and they had no idea when it would begin to work.  In effect Chrysler was telling me dump the iphone and get a Samsung if you want it to work in a Chrysler.  Also, the site would only give you information for Chrysler that were 2008 or newer, they gave the following number to call if your vehicle was older.    I called that number and they told me that Chrysler and Uconnect had no plans at all to make the iphone 5 work, in the future, on any Chrysler older than 2008.  So.......If you have a Chrysler or Dodge that is older than 2008 you will NEVER  be able to use an iphone5 on the uconnect through the dash system.   Do not buy an iphone if you have an older vehicle.  It will never be supported for the $1,000 you paid for this uconnect system on your car.  My car is a 2005 Town and Country.  I asked both Chrysler and uconnect if their was some sort of work around so I could use my phone.  They both told me their was not and that they had no plans to resolve this situation for my vehicle.  This means that I need to either get rid of my $42,000 vehicle with low milage or get rid of my Iphone 5.  Niether are really good options.
I was also givne the following places to send formal complaints, even though I was told that neither Chrysler, Dodge or Apple were going to do anything to correct my problem:
for email:   [email protected]   or Mail:  Chrysler customer Assistance  P.O. Box 218004, Auburn Hills, Michigan  48321
If anyone hears of a work around to be able to use an Iphone 5 in a Chrysler or Dodge product, please let me know.

This response is a little late as I just read about your problem. I have a 2012 Dodge Charger and a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country and both worked flawlessly with the iPhone 5s my wife and I had. However, we just upgraded to the iPhone 6 and Uconnect will receive calls but you cannot answer them. You can callout successfully, however. the annoyance being the inability to answer incoming calls in the HandsFree mode.

  • Please help. Slow & dropped wifi after putting ISP's modem in bridge mode

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to read and/or possibly help out with my dilemma. I'm not very apple savvy (even though I love my husband's macbook pro which I'm typing on). Our warranty for our airport extreme is expired & this was given to us.
Our service provider here in Winnipeg Canada is Shaw Communications. We have a fast connection - Broadband 50. There are 4 of us living here - 2 kids, 2 adults & we all have cellphones, computers, ipods etc using the internet by ethernet cable or wifi. Sometimes my son has 7 friends also trying to use it. Normally we have no problems, except to me the wifi seemed slow. So I made a couple changes & wish I hadn't & now things are all screwed up.
So, this was our configuration. Our Shaw modem was SMC. It was connected by cable to my husband's Airport Extreme 4th generation base. My son's computers are connected by cable directy to the airport extreme. We used our phones & macbook wirelessly. I don't know if we were getting the wireless signal from the Shaw modem or through the airport extreme.
2 weeks ago I called Shaw to get their new Gateway pvr system. I mentioned that somtimes the internet lags for my son playing League of legends or when I'm on wifi. He said that our modem was old & they could replace it when they came to install the Gateway system. On October 26th they took the SMC modem & installed a Cisco model DCP3825.
The wireless seemed the same to me. But my son who plays League of Legends says the game's ping spikes go from 100 up to 700. Before they changed the modem, they were 50 to 90. He also kept lagging and getting disconnected from the game. We all looked online & called a computer place & learned that Shaw gives out cheap modems and the Cisco isn't a good one. So I called back Shaw & asked if they could bring back our SMC one. No they can't, but they can give us a new SMC one.
Then I searched online for a better router for gaming. This was before I understood that the airport extreme is already its own router. My husband had set it up. I didn't even know what that white box in the basement was for lol. I read online that it's a good idea to get Shaw or your ISP to bridge your modem & use your own router to get better speeds. I phoned Memory Express & Shaw & they agreed.
2 days ago I called Shaw & asked them to bridge the Cisco modem. The guy did, but didn't explain I needed to reset both routers. So we were without internet for awhile, til my son looked on his phone & figured out what to do. After bridging the Cisco modem, my son's wired connections are fine, but the wifi speeds went from 38 to 46 mbps to 3 to 11 mbps on my phone & the macbook. Sometimes the wifi drops out completely.
I phoned Shaw to ask them what to do, but they said since the airport is an apple product they can't help me. They said we probably need to change the channel & to call Shaw for help. A call to Apple costs $60!!! I couldn't believe it. So I'm asking for help here.
Is there some settings I need to change in the Airport Utility to get our wireless connections back to the way they were? Tonight I coudln't even update an app on my phone, the wifi was so slow.
Should I get them to unbridge the Cisco modem? Change from the airport extreme to a different router? I was going to add another router, but was told it's not good to have the isp modem & the airport extreme & another router on the same network. I would like to buy the Asus N66u router, but can't afford it right now. I am supposed to go buy a used router off of Kijiji tomorrow for $50. It's a Netgear N750 WDR4300 - probably 4000 for Americans. Still sells for $100 to $140 new so it's a good price. Can I use that & the extreme?
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my long essay & for whatever help anyone provides.

  • Adsl modem in bridge mode.

    Hello Sirs,
I would like to describe my problem. For my internet connection im using adsl+ and have a router. Router somehow is configured for 2 wan interfaces: 8.35 (vpi/vci) for internet, another 8.36 (vpi/vci) for iptv. With router everything works ok, but it isn't very good. I have poor wifi and some other problems. So I would like to use that router only as a bridge and to make server for routing and separate access point. Problem is that, that I have to use dhcpcd for connection to network and somehow it is always getting iptv's IP (8.36 interface), I can see tv, but no internet connection. Was trying same thing in windows, there is everything works ok. Its getting right IP and TV works too.
So Sirs, could you give me an advice please how I could make dhcpcd connect exactly to 8.35 wan interface? I was playing with wicd-client and noticed that it randomly gets sometimes right IP sometimes TV's ip. dhcpcd -d eth0 always only 8.36
Hope you could help me to solve this weird thing.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Sir nocain,
sorry for late reply, I was away last days and checked these configurations only today.
Thank you very much for your help. Everything works almost perfect now
With eth0 Im getting exactly that ip, which I need. Mac filter is very nice tool
Only problem for now is that vlan isnt working I guess (it dont work neither with router neither with dlink modem).

  • Setting modem to bridge

I'm using a DSL modem from Broadxent provided by AT&T. Connecting using PPPoE. Just set up my AEBS. Not able to get to the Internet. I read from another thread that setting the modem to bridge mode might fix it. Anyone know how to do that? Thanks!

Have you tried contacting Broadxent's Support to see if you can download a user's guide for this particular DSL modem or to call them directly?

  • Bridge mode for Airport Express or DSL modem?

I bought a new DSL modem (Netgear Broadband ADSL modem DM111PSP) to replace my old Westell.  I also bought the new Aiport Express station (2012 model) to create the WiFI network at home.  At the moment, the AE is in Bridge mode so that the DSL modem is on PPPoE to be the one assigning IP's for 3 portable Macs (2 on Wifi and 1 on Powerline->Ethernet).  My ISP is AT&T.
I wonder if  anyone can answer my following questions:
    1) When Apple claims that the AE can support up to 50 concurrent users using the Internet, does that also apply to the AE in Bridge mode?
    2) Can my ISP detect the fact that I have 3 computers with the current setup and start charging me more?
    3) What will happen if I put the modem in Bridge mode and AE in PPPoE?  Can my ISP still track the same info in (2)?
    Thank you so much.
My computers (1 MacBook Pro and 2 MacBooks) are all on OS 10.6.8.
    Gary

I thought AE cannot assign IP's once in Bridge mode.
That is correct. DHCP and NAT services are turned off when the AirPort Is configured in Bridge Mode.
If both modem and AE assign IP, would that create 'Double NAT' error?
Correct. Either the modem/router has to be in Bridge Mode and the AirPort handles DHCP and NAT.....or.....the modem/router handles DHCP and NAT and the AirPort is set up in Bridge Mode.
There are upsides and downsides to either approach. The simplest setup is to let the modem/router handle DHCP and NAT and configure the AirPort in Bridge Mode.
However, if you were planning to use the Guest Network feature of the new AirPort Express, then the modem/router must be configured in Bridge Mode and and the AirPort handles the DHCP and NAT.

Im a Verizon dsl customer and am trying to configure an Airport Time Capsule with a Westell 2200 modem.  The only workable configuration I can come up with is bridge mode.  Every other configuration has some sort of conflict with the modem.  I have tried to set the modem in bridge mode, with DHCP service both on and off, and connect with the Airport Time Capsule, but was unable to get an internet connection ( I used the password and login for my main email account - perhaps I should have used the vzid but I don't know the password - in the modem I see it says "set by verizon").
I never had this problem with any other router I have used.
    Any ideas?  Thanks, Klaus

Very sorry if this is a stupid question, but if I don't get the dns service from the westell 2200, where will I get it from?  The routher asks for this address during the PPPoE setup.
    Thanks,
    Klaus
DNS should come from the PPPoE connection itself automatically. If you have to, define servers such as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. If you have about a half an hour of time where you can leave your machine idle, I would recommend running the DNS Benchmark program from Gibson Research to choose the best (fastest) servers for you.

Pick the two consistently fast servers. The program will give you some general recommendations when it completes. I recommend setting up the Custom nameserver list when theprogram asks for that.

  • Can you set the type of alert in iCal on the iPad?

I have an iPad (1st generation) with the latest iOS5. I love the new iOS and especially the way that iCloud makes things more seamless between my devices. I do have an issue with iCal, however. When I set an event in iCal in OSX, I can set the alert to be a message, message with sound, email, etc. By default, if I set an event in iCal on my iPad the alert is a message. I can find no way to change this. If there is a way, please tell me.
Because of this, I never use iCal on iPad to set alerts because I like to use message with sound. This greatly reduces the functionality of iCal on iPad because, for me, it can only be used as a calendar event viewer. Any help would be appreciated. Note: I have contacted apple feedback about this issue.
In a related, but less important issue, I find that the settings for the timing of the alert are very limited in iCal on iPad. On iCal in OSX one can set the alert time for either the time of the event, or pretty much any amount of time prior to the event. On the iPad, iCal will only let you set it to the day of the event, 1 or 2 days before, or 1 week before the event. A limitation, but not crippling. However, if anyone knows how to set the timing of the event on iPad's iCal with more specificity I would really like to know.
    Thanks!

Under Settings, Sounds, you can set an alert sound for calendar events.
For timed events, you can set the alert for a range of times from 5 minutes before upwards (e.g.15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour). For all-day events, the range is as you described.
You can set the alert for each event as you create it (or edit it later)
You can set default alerts for all-day event,s timed events, and birthdays (i.e. different defaults for each type) in Settings, Mail, Contacts and Calendar, default Alerts.
    Does that help?

  • How do you set up university email on mail settings?

I can't set up my university website on mail settings i don't know what imap or pop means Help please

POP and IMAP are two different kinds of e-mail protocols. You will need to ask your IT department help desk for specific instructions. If you take your iPad to them, they might be able to help you set it up.
