Will the 13' Macbook Pro do well with Heavy Video editing?

Hello,
I'm a grade 13 High School student who is in his last 4 months of High School. I'm looking to purchase the 13' Macbook Pro (Without Retina Display), with the 2.9Ghz Processor, and 8GBs of RAM. I will be doing Film, Animation, and all the normal things people do on laptops such as YouTube, Facebook, and others. I will be using very Graphic intensive programs such as Adobe After Effects, and Motion 5. I plan to get ether the 500GB SATA Hard Disc Drive, or the 1TB Hard Disc Drive. SSDs are not in my price point. Which would you recomend to be the better deal?
Can this computer keep up with my needs? I was planning on getting the 15', but now the Apple Online Store no longer hold them, oh well. I would like ot have this computer for a long time after College as well. How is it's durrability? Also, since it's a Laptop, how long does the battery last while using programs like what I specified above?
I thank you everyone for helping me out with these questions I have!

I have been using late 2008 MacBook(2.0GHz Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, 9400M graphics) which running Yosemite 10.10.1 as sub machine which works fine so far.
1,2) Yes, you can back up bootable clone with Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper! or Disk Utility on external drive, and if you don't like Yosemite, you can back to 10.9.5 from it anytime you want(boot from external drive, then restore previous system from external drive with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! or Disk Utility on internal disk).
3) I dont connect iPhone to my MacBook, though I think your MacBook Pro can handle it.

  • Will my 2006 macbook pro run ok with one fan?

i have an 2006 macbook pro and the right fan started  to sound like a lawn mower. I opened her up, took apart the fan, cleaned  it and put i back together and it still sounded like **** so i opened  it up again and disconnected the fan...my question is...will my computer  be ok with running on one fan for a bit until i get a replacement

Install istat pro and monitor the temperature.

No video, games, Skype and such and the MBP may survive.
Remember, the Apple engineers installed two fans for a reason.

  • I don't have any sound and can't adjust the brightness Macbook Pro Mid 2009 with Windows 7 64bit

I installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit in my Macbook Pro Mid 2009 using Bootcamp 5.1.2 and from the beginning the sound is not working and cant adjust the brightness either. Tried installing all the drivers that people recommended from Realtek, nVidia and nothing has help me fixed the problem. is there a way that i could fix those problems?

Look in the Boot Camp system requirements located here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
Find your computer model and year. I think you will find that you should be using version 4 of the Windows support software.

  • Is the SSD in the 15" MacBook Pro Retina compatible with the 13" MacBook Pro Retina?

A friend upgraded his Retina MacBook Pro 15" from 256GB to an OWC 480GB SSD.  He was going to sell me the 256GB SSD he pulled out of his rMBP.  I was thinking of buying the base 13" rMBP and installing that 256GB SSD from the 15" rMBP.  Will that work or are they not compatible.  Eyeballing it, they look to be exactly the same size so physically it would fit but not sure if they are not compatible for other reasons.

none of what you mentioned - use a damp micro fibre cloth to wipe your macbook retina.
make sure it's damp and not wet.
using a wet cloth can cause some drips between the keys that might create an issue - so make sure it's just damp.

  • Top of the line MacBook Pro 15" Retina with 2 27" thunderbolt displays or top of the line 27" iMac with another 27" display?

I don't know which combination to get... The key is two have dual monitors. I'm a photographer and need the extra workspace. Would there be a noticeable difference in performance? Please help.

I agree with shldr - do you need the portability? A lot - and I mean a lot - of photographers are taking their MBPs with them on location shoots. If you're in a studio all the time, then the iMac should suit you fine. If you shoot on location and need portability then the MBP with two 27" ATDs would be my choice. If, like most photogs, your shooting is both, go with the MBP.
In the end, portability is your only concern. As an ex-pro, if I were buying a computer today, I would not get the Retina display MacBook Pro - I would get the fastest non-Retina and upgrade myself to 16GB of RAM and at least a 512GB SSD (although OWC has a 960GB SSD that looks awfully nice and the price keeps dropping).
So location or studio or both? If location or mixed, MBP. If studio only, iMac.
    Pretty simple decision...

  • Does the new macbook pro 15in come with a cd reader?

  • Will the new macbook pro retina's have a dedicated graphics card?

I know that Intel released their new Haswell processors that are energy efficient but I want that graphics power of dedicated graphics. It wouldn't be cool if the Macbook Pro Retina basically gets a downgrade in graphics. I am however all for duel graphics like the current models have.

Nobody can answer this question, unfortunately.

  • Does the new Macbook Pro still work with HDMI input?

Im wondering that ever since that new thunderbolt port has come out on the newest macbook, would connecting an HDMI adapter in the port still work for the newest model?

For HDMI output from the MBP to a monitor or TV, yes. For HDMI input from another device into the MBP, I'm not sure. That certainly wasn't possible before Thunderbolt, and I don't know whether or not Thunderbolt makes it possible now.

  • What preset MacBook pro would be better for video editing and eventually college?, What preset MacBook pro would be better for video editing and eventually college?

    Hi,
I am thinking about getting a MacBook Pro.  My current computer is very very old and can not be used.  I would like to use it for video editing and eventually to use when I go to college.  I want to get one of the preset 13 inch MBPs.  I do not know which one will be better for my purposes.  Could anyone please help me??

Any computer made today, Windows or Mac, will be MILES ahead of what you are now using.
Raw CPU speed is not the total benchmark of a computer. Look at it this way. A 2.6GHz CPU made today is much faster then a 2.6GHz CPU made just a few years ago, like 3 years ago. the difference between a 2.6 and a 2.9GHz CPU is 3 tens of 1 GHz, 300MHz. The percentage difference is about 8-9 percent (.08-.09). Back when CPUs were listed in MHz, 120, 300, 600, if you have a 300MHz CPU and you replaced it with one that was 300MHz faster that was a Big Jump. You doubled the computing power. Today 300MHz, .3GHz, is next to nothing. Especially for the price jump.
Note that when you make the switch you will either need to update your program, that means Re-Buying most of them, to work on the Mac OS or install a version of Windows in either a Boot Camp partition, Dual booting the Mac, or into a Virtual Machine software program to run the Windows version of those program.
If you decide on a Mac buy the BASE model that is offered for the CPU speed you want. The RAM and hard drive can be upgraded by you for much less then what Apple charges for those upgrades. With the hard drive if you upgrade it to a larger and faster drive, Apple supplies 5400RPM drives, like a 7200RPM drive you get to Keep the original drive to use in any way you like. Like an external drive.

  • Should i buy a 17inch Macbook Pro 2011 model or the new Macbook pro 15 inch with retina display?

Im wondering which one i should buy.
im selling my iMac for it.
They both are really nice laptops, and are around the same price.
I just dont know which one to buy.
if i buy the 17 inch i get the DVD Drive, all the additional ports, and a bigger screen.
if i buy retina i get the 15 inch retina display(smaller screen), thiiner body, 75% less glare and more.
What do you think? which one would you buy?

Well, I am a smallish, sixty-something woman, and I've never found my 17" MBP (2008) too heavy to haul around.  I got rid of my desk-top when I got this 17 incher, thinking I would eventually get a monitor for the large screen.  Well, it has been 4 and a half years and I haven't found a need for the monitor yet.
I do a lot of photography, the kind with serious editing, so my hi-res non--glare screen is a must, as is the larger screen.
If I hauled this thing with me everywhere I went, it would be cumbersome, but that's what my ipad is for.  The 17" MBP has been my dream machine, I just hope they source 17" retina panels and put it back in the line-up before I have to replace my trusty old machine.
For the way I use the MBP, a 15" would leave me needing a desk top version to supplement it.  I like having the one machine to do it all, and love that I now have the ipad to do the light hauling.  No need to take up space on my desk (or sit at a desk) with a desk top, when I have the 17" MPB.
