Will the 3GS go out of recovery mode once the battery is completely drained?

For totally unknown reasons my iPhone 3GS went into recovery mode (Recovery mode, new BR) three weeks ago. Since then I have really tried everything, every suggestion, every trick, every piece of software. Nothing worked. I keep getting an error message ("The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error error occured (-1). )  Question: will the 3GS go out of recov mode once the battery is completely drained? If so, is there a specific method to push the very last drop of juice out of the battery of an iPhone in recovery mode?

I do understand what you say about the terms of use.
What I do not understand is, that this jailbreak took place some two years ago and ever since I restored the orignal 4.3 iOS I upgrade to both 5.0 and 5.2 without any problems. The afternoon that my 3GS went into recoverery mode I noticed a malfunctioning app. I believe I closed the app - at least I was under that impression - but then I discovered about half an hour later when I wanrted to make a phone call that that was no longer possible. By the way, I am not an engineer. What is the baseband actually? I mean, I read stuff in various posts on the internet about specific versions (numbers) of the iPhone and iPad baseband. But what is it?

  • How to get iPhone out of recovery mode?

OK, i need to get my phone out of recovery mode. The thing is, i do NOT want to restore my iPhone to factory settings, i have so much stuff on there like notes and calendar dates and text messages and contacts that i have put in since my last update. Is my only option to go ahead with the restore or is there another way to get my phone out of recovery mode? Is there a way to save my data?

I had exactly same problem and when I called apple i-phone support, she told me to select restore the phone but all the data should be in the i-phone backup and will not be deleted.
I followed her directions and I could restore my phone without deleting any of my stored musics, photos, and other info.
The tricky thing is after you click the restore, it showed the error message and you need to unplug your i-phone from the computer and restart your computer again. Then open the i-tune without connecting your i-phone. Once you open i-tune, connect your i-phone then restore again.
After restore the i-phone, it ask you to backup or set as new phone. Choose backup from your i-phone. Then all your data should be restored.
Whole process takes about half hour but all your data should be recovered from the i-phone backup folder.

  • HT201263 how to get out of recovery mode

i am trying to update my iphone5s to ios8 but unfortunately it went on recovery mode.
now my screen is showing an itunes logo and plug in charger sign..
I tried to connect to itunes and have it recovered but its showing error 4013.
Please help as I just want to remove this recovery mode even if my iphone wont get updated to ios8

If your phone is in recovery mode you have no choice but to restore it.
How to Get iPhone Out of Recovery Mode
All the data on it is already lost if it is in recovery mode, you will have to restore it and when setting it up again at the end of the restore process your phone will restart and you will have to set it up again as you did when it was new.  In the process you will be given the option to restore it from and iTunes or iCloud backup.  If you have been backing up to iCloud choose that (be sure to plug your phone in to a wall charger as this will take hours to complete).
If you haven't been backing up to iCloud choose restore from iTunes backup, then restore from  the backup you created the last time you synced your phone.  If it won't restore in recovery mode by connecting it to iTunes you will have to try putting it in DFU mode to restore it.

  • HT1414 my iphone 4 running on IOS 5 will not come out of recovery mode and gives the error code -1. Can any one help me please because i've been without a phone for 2 weeks and still not getting anywhere.

Hi there could someone out there please help i've got a Iphone 4 running on IOS 5 and it will not come out of recovery mode> It comes up with the error code -1 which i've looked everywhere on the web but no one seams to have the same issue.
This is a reconditioned replacement phone from the apple genius guys which i paid £130 for and only got 3 months warranty with and as soon as the warranty run out it crashed on me and never been able to get it back out of recovery mode. I've been back to the apple genius guys and they have told me there's nothing they can do other than charge me £130 to take the phone off me and give me another reconditioned phone with a 3 month warranty. Which as you can properly tell i dont want to.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME thanks for your time

This is a bad hardware error, Baseband Error. Some have reported getting through this error by Restoring iPhone with the SIM Card removed. Try that. Try restoring with different computer. Search Web some more for other thoughts.

  • IPhone 3GS froze during iOS 5.1.1 update - how do I get out of recovery mode without having to restore?

So I tried to update my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1.1, like iTunes told me to do, and it froze part way through the installation for a couple of hours.  I tried to "reset" the iPhone by pressing both the home and power buttons simultaneously, but now iTunes tells me my iPhone is in recovery mode.  From my limited knowledge, it seems I need to restore my iPhone, but I don't want to lose anything, like my SMS history.
Is there a way to get out of recovery mode without having to restore?
    Thanks!

I came across this post as my iPhone 3Gs had gone into recovery mode on its own accord.   I had hundreds of photos unsaved and was gutted when I saw this post, I felt even worse as it was not the information (gdgmacguy) I wanted to read.
Unfortunately, the above post is simply wrong! A system cannot destroy information in a blink of an eye.   If it were that easy, the forensic teams across the world would have a hard time.  A criminal could simply force a phone into recovery to remove all the data.  Please!
I managed not only to take the phone out of recovery mode but also, salvaged all the data held on it.
To be fair, I am a little annoyed at Apple for not offering a salvage option on the device for such a situation.  And it may be that they will not like me sharing this information, in which case I believe this view to be morally wrong because photos are so important.  We all make mistakes, in terms of forgetting to backup from time to time.
What I used was the Redsn0w software, running as an administrator in XP compatibility mode.  In the ‘Extras’ section it as a Recovery Fix option.  It simply runs some software that takes the device out of recovery mode.  I had to run it twice for some reason but the second time (out of desperation) worked a treat.  The phone is now exactly as it was before it went into recovery mode.  More to the point, it allowed me to backup all the photos and videos that I had failed to do before hand.  And let’s face it, photos and videos are usually the most valuable stuff we keep on our phones.
I hope this help anyone in the same situation. I really hope someone from apple reads it and is able to convince the bosses that a recovery option is very important.  And to take note that YES it is possible to recover data on a phone stuck in recovery mode.  And more than likely it would be easier for apple, compared to other non-apple professionals.
    Good luck.

    Hey erinoneill24,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Sounds like you can't update your device. You don't mention an error that it gives you. Take a look at both of these articles to troubleshoot.
iPod displays "Use iTunes to restore" message

If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808?viewlocale=de_DE_1
If you started your device in recovery mode by mistake, restart it to exit recovery mode. Or you can just wait—after 15 minutes the device will exit recovery mode by itself.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • HT201210 Why can't i get my iphone 3gs out of recovery mode when i try to restore it?

    Hello People,
My iPhone 3GS has gone into "Recovery Mode" and ive tried to restore it. When it reaches the firmware it stops and my iPhone restarts and i get an error message saying "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error has occured(1)." Ive tried putting it into DFU mode but it doesn't seem to work (its like it is in a loop). Ive tried different firmwares such as 3.1.3 and 4.1 and it still stops at the firmware section. The iPhone was new out of the box about 4-5 days ago and i get this.
Any suggestions please post below this thread.
    Best Regards,
    Kieran

You've just exposed your email address to millions of people, some of whom are spammers or worse. That was not a good idea. Expect a massive increase in spam as a result, unless the mods see it and edit it out of your message. You can only restore a 3GS to iOS 5.1.1. If you are trying to install an earlier version you must hack or jailbreak your phone; error 1 is usually an indication that the phone is jailbroken. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error1

  • HT1267 my iphone 3gs wont come out of recovery mode and wont restore

I can't get my iphone out of recovery mode and it wont restore. What do I do?

Did you use the recovery mode instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and that did not work?
If that will not work, you can use DFU mode, but the timing of the actions is critical:
Power down the iPhone, start iTunes on the computer, connect the USB end of the cable to the computer.
Press and hold the power button on the iPhone while attaching the other end of the cable, and continue to hold the power button for three seconds.  Then, while still holding the power button press and hold the home button.  Continue holding both buttons for ten seconds, then release the power button and continue to hold the home button for an additional twenty seconds.  Release the home button and you should be able to restore.

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone restarts.

i was in the process of jailbreaking and updating my ipod and when i was updating it,it went into recovery mode and now i cant get it out of recovery mode so what can i do??

    Go elsewhere:
Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty and also means that you will not get any support from Apple, including from this Apple forum. Jailbreaking can't be discussed in this Apple forum.
Unauthorized modification of iOS has been a major source of instability, disruption of services, and other issues
