Will the app Find My Iphone work on an iPod that was stolen with no known wifi?
My Ipod Touch was stolen a few weeks ago and I have it connected to the app Find My Iphone. When it was stolen the wifi was turned off. I was wondering if the theift were to turn the wifi on if I could send them a message to return it? (from an unregistered wifi.)
No. The Find feature requires that the iPod be on, location services is on and wifi on and connected.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
- Apple will do nothing

For Find My Phone to work, you must first turn it on in Settings > iCloud before the iPhone is stolen, and the iPhone MUST be turned on and connected with the Internet. If not, it is not possible to locate it. Report the theft to the police, change all passwords associated with accounts on the iPhone, contact your carrier in case the can blacklist it.

Not unless you placed a lost device in Lost Mode and it is detected as being online. If so, it will show its current and previous locations on a map as shown at the bottom of this article: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfc0f0165.

You don't need the App but you must have turned on "Find My iPhone" in Settings > iCloud.
If you have "Find My iPhone" enabled then you may be able to locate it. If not, you cannot locate it. If it was enabled then you can try locating it via http://icloud.com on a computer or the App "Find My iPhone" on another iDevice. Note: this will only work if your device is connected to a network and the device hasn't already been restored as new and/or "Find My iPhone" has not been disabled on it. Note: Disabling "Find My iPhone" is much more difficult in iOS 7.
If you think that your device was stolen rather than lost then you should report it to the police. In either case you should contact your carrier, change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc. -

o.k- my iPhone got stolen about a week ago, i had the app "find my iPhone" but the problem is that the thief deleted the app from my iPhone, my question is- why Apple didn't developed this app in a way that, you need to type in your apple ID for deleting it or cancell the option of deleting this app.
if this app could not be deleted we will be able to locate our iphone everytime......The app being installed has absolutely nothing to do with whether you phone is locatable or not.
The "Find my iPhone" app is ONLY for locating another iOS device from the one it is installed upon. Even if the thief deleted the app, the service would still work.
Apple has built-in passcode locks to both the phone as a whole, and to the accounts section, so your iCloud account cannot be deleted without entering a passcode. Presumably, you did not setup either of these locks if the thief was able to turn iCloud off or delete the app.
However, the thief only need to restore the phone, or power it off for it to be untraceable. Find my iPhone is not intended for tracking purposefully stolen phones. It is for misplaced, lost phones. -

I need any help i can get, im having trouble with the app find my iphone. I have lost my iphone, checked on the computer, and somehow, took it away so how do i get it back??If you are saying that after signing into iCloud it is telling you device is not found, it could be for any number of reasons. If the battery is dead, if the SIM has been removed, or if someone else has the phone and they have restored it, it will not be shown. Also, if you located it once and then sent a remote wipe, it disables the abililty to locate the phone with Find My iPhone.

Trying to install the App - find my iPhone but keeps getting the message cannot download at this time.
Thx, I finally figure out what I had to do to get it to download, just don't like that it is taking so long to download on the iphone from computer. But thx again for that advice, so far it is working.

Excuse me apple I had the police nock on my door about an iPad that was located at our house and the owner lost the iPad in-between bowral nsw and Sydney can you please fix the app (Find My IPhone) so that person can find their iPad coz the police would of taken mine if I did not show proof of purchase
You are not communicating with Apple by posting here. Everyone here is just a fellow user and cannot fix anything.
The Find My iPad service may have indeed been accurate to the limits of the technology. Unless the iPad was a 3G unit, location is determined based on the nearest WiFi router which in your case could just happened to have been yours. The police may be the ones who need to "fix" their understanding of how the technology works and its limitations.

It means the iPhone is off-line, but can also mean it has been restored to factory condition in wich case it will not show on line.
