Will the Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adaptor allow me to connect to my ProFire 610?

Was using this for recording live instruments & vocals on a G5, but there's no Firewire port on the current iMacs.

When you plug the projector into the computer, with the projector on, dose the computer reconize a second a 2nd display is connected?
ie: Menu bar, click on the Apple menu, chose System Preferences, click on displays, do you see an arragment tab?
if you do see an arragment tab, try clicking gather display windows. a window should pop up for the projector. What resolution is it set to? is there a lower resolution you could set?

  • Does the Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter work w/ W540?

I have an external storage drive that relies on Firewire 800, or USB 2.0 - I'd prefer to use the Firewire! I discovered the Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter ( http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Thunderbolt-to-FireWire-Adapter/dp/B008RXYOKY ), but I haven't seen any clones for sale... Does anyone know if it will work with the W540 and Windows 7?

    Hi DIgitalsmear
I bought one of this adapters to connect my firewire audio interface to my lenovo carbon X1 which has a thunderbolt out. And atm i have no proper connection going on, but i'm not yet sure whether it is because of the adapter or something else.

  • HT3382 Does the Apple MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter allow me to connect a VGA DLP projector as a display?

I want to connect my MacBook Pro i7 that has a mini Dsiplay Port/Thunderbolt port. I want to connect it to my VGA NEC LT20 DLP Projector.
I have the Apple MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter, MB5727Z/A, Model Number A1307 and the computer does not recognize the NEC LT20, nor does the LT20 recieve the MacBook Pro as a computer or other source.
My previous MacBook Pro core duo with DVI to VGA adapter worked fine with the projector.
Is this because the Apple  MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter is only for computer to VGA video displays?
Is there another adapter that will allow me to use my particular VGA proejctor with my MacBook Pro?
Has my replacing the old computer with the newer one forced me to shell out big bucks to for another projector, thereby making my ability to give educational lectures for free to audiences impossible?

  • Will the Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter allow an external FW HDD to boot a TB Mac?

    Hi all,
Will the Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire 800 adapter allow an external FW HDD to boot a TB Mac (the 2014 Mac mini in this case, but I suspect the same will be true with any TB Mac)? I have all FW800 external HDDs, want to be able to boot from them like I can with a FW 800 equipped Mac, and don't want to buy TB external HDDs.
    Thanks!

I just placed my older MacBook in Target Disk mode and then booted my 2103 Mac Pro with Option key and the MacBook's HD was available as a bootable drive. I will not boot since the McBook is maxed out at Lion

Can I use the new Apple Thunderbolt  to Firewire adapter to download video from a video camera by firewire to my Macbook Air ?

Yes, you can use the 85 watt adaptor. You cannot use the new adaptors because your computer is not equipped with the proper MagSafe connector. But you can use the older MBP adaptors as well as a 60 watt replacement adaptor. All can be found at Apple's Online Store.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
You would need to ask that directly to Apple. Apple is not here nor does Apple answer questions here.
To return an iOS product requires a valid receipt. You have 30 days to return an iPhone. The iPhone must have all original packaging & accessories and be in new condition. Apple may charge a restocking fee on a returned iPhone.
If the iPhone was bought from a 3rd party, their regulations for returns would apply.

  • Has anyone been able to use an Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire to daisy chain a dozen or more FireWire drives?

Ever since I realized that I was not able to connect my FireWire daisy chain to my brand new Retina MBP there has been problems. Four months down the road, I am still unable to use my FireWire drives and have experienced terrible problems whenever I connect my FireWire daisy chain to this new Mac.
I have bought two of these adaptors from Apple now and both do the same thing. The daisy chain has been working perfectly for years with my older MBP and still does! There are no problems until I connect to the new Mac.
I have 15 various hard drives in NewerTech and DatOptics enclosures for over 22 TB. When connected to the new Mac, I would have multiple apps just hang, sometimes just Apple apps, sometimes 3rd party. I will not be able to force quit them and they will keep relauching as you can watch them in the Force Quit window. The Finder will hang and there is no relaunching it. I am having to do a force shutdown twice an hour which leaves no time for work!
After four months of this, now I am being told that Apple will buy back my Mac at full price. But I have basically lost the good part of four month’s worth of work because of constantly fighting the new Mac. This is cost me all my savings and I am about to lose a client. It certainly seems that releasing Thunderbolt1 was a huge, huge mistake.
Does anyone know of any large Fire Wire daisy chain working with Thunderbolt?
    TIA,
    R

Yes, my first post is all about how darn iffy the adaptors are and I have two of them to return now.
I question your answer because I am betting that four drives that are in one enclosure NOT all RAIDed together as one drive, but as four separate drives that those four drive will count as four devices. The daisy chain that I had going had eight drives in TWO quad boxes, four drives in TWO dual drives and another drive in a single enclosure. A total of five “devices” if you will, but also a total of 13 drives that were usually in this daisy chain.
Both of the Apple branded Thunderbolt to FireWire adaptors chocked BIG TIME on this and it works no problem on my older MBP. You basically can not use a new Mac when you are connected to a daisy chain like this!
Just checked the Apple website and indeed, I can get a new MBP with FireWire 800, just not with the Retina display! I wish that I would have known this five months ago before this all started!

  • Thunderbolt to FireWire adaptor/Bad connection?

Has anybody had the same matter as I have? Please let me know!
'Thunderbolt to FireWire Adaptor' I bought doesn't properly fit in the Thunderbolt socket of my Macbook Air (that Thunder mark on it).
It does a half of it and doesn't go deeper. I'm sure any info of photos and videos I saw online that people uploaded look it fits in all, but mine doesn't.
Is this normal? One I found on Apple Support Community says
'Be wary of the bad connection with the adaptor though, it falls out with the slightest movement.'
It sounds like talking what the same I have. If it's so, I can use it even it properly not goes in? or I can claim the tech support?
If anybody knows info, please let me know! Will appreciate it. Thank you!!

    Yikes, that's sad to hear.
I can't test it, no TB here, but are all these drives self AC powered, ie. no bus powered drives?

  • Does the apple thunderbolt to ethernet dongle support promiscuous mode ?

Does the apple thunderbolt to ethernet dongle support promiscuous mode ?
I need to use the new Retina MBP as a professional laptop for work, and I need to use Etherreal. Etherreal needs the Ethernet card/dongle/chip to run in Promiscuous mode. I have heard that unblivably the thunderbolt Ethernet dongle does not support this, if so then the laptop will not pick all the packets on the wire... is this true ?
    Regs Mark.

    Hi Clinton,
Thanks for your reply, However the promiscuous mode function that I am after is a function of the Ethernet NIC hardware and driver not just the OS.
Wireshark allows the user to put network interface controllers that support promiscuous mode into that mode, in order to see all traffic visible on that interface, not just traffic addressed to one of the interface's configured addresses and broadcast/multicast traffic.
Anyone out there actually used/tested the thunderbolt Ethernet adapter to sniff traffic with wireshark (Ethereal), can you please  if it can run in promiscuous mode ?
    Thanks.

You only need a plug adaptor as long as the voltage is between 100 and 240 volts.

  • Can a laptop with VGA output use the Apple Thunderbolt 27" display?

I bought a 2011 Macbook Air and I'm thinking about upgrading my office monitor. The new Apple Thunderbolt 27" display comes to mind.
However, I also have a Lenovo X201 with VGA output, which I would also like to connect to the Apple Thunderbolt 27" display sporadically.
Will the VGA to mini-display port adapter work? If not, does there exist a VGA to mini-display port converter that will work and if so which one?

You are thinking of that adapter backwards.  It is not VGA to MDP but is "Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter".  This means it will take video out of a a MDP connection and convert it to a VGA connection.  It will not go the other direction like you need.
Sorry but that Lenovo just doesn't have the ability to connect to the new display.  If it had a HDMI video port like some other Lenovo models, you could adapt from that but I don't know of any VGA to Mini-DisplayPort/ThunderBolt adapters.
Even if you were to use such an adapter, the video card in that laptop couldn't drive a 27" display at the native resolution so it would look very bad.
One other option would be to use the Lenovo X200 docking station which has a full sized Display Port.  You would have to use a Display Port to Mini Display port adapter then you could attach the TB cable to it.  There is also a USB video replicator that has a DVI-I output then then yet another adapter to get to Mini-Display.
However, both of these options would still be limited by the graphics card at 1920x1080 so it still wouldn't look good.

  • Thunderbolt to firewire adaptor does not work when daisy chaining firewire devices

    Hi,
I just purchased the Thunderbolt to firewire adaptor for my new late 2012 iMac.
It works when connecting a single firewire device, but when I daisy chain another drive, the first drive disconnects and nothing mounts.
I am trying a Hitachi G-Raid and a couple of WD My Studio II hard drives. They all work when connected directly to the adaptor, but not when more than one drive if daisy chained with firewire.
Has anyone got firewire daisy-chaining working with a thunderbolt adaptor? (just to clarify I am not refering to thunderbolt daisy chaining, as the adaptor is an end-of-chain thunderbolt device).
    Thanks
