Will the coreduo act in the same way as a dual processor?

The dual processor G4 that I had was able to have one unix process running on one processor and another process running on the other processor. This meant that if I had a process that took up 100% of a processor, it would not bog down my computer, because other processes could work on the other processor.
Does the CoreDuo that is in the MacBook allow a process to fill up one processor and run other processes on the other? Just checking.

It can work that way. The behavior is dictacted by the OS and how it handles multithreaded processes. The Core Duo is two processor cores on a single piece of silicon. I know from personal experience that it is possible to have one process on one core and another on the second core. It doesn't always work that way though.

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

  • HT1229 Can i move the iPhoto folder onto an external HDD? Will it work the same way after moving onto an external HDD? do I then need to have the external connected at all times, even when I don't use iPhoto?

I have a macbook pro, but the amount of pictures I have now exceeds 500GB
I want to have all the pictures in iPhoto, so I could see them and edit them in iPhoto.
Which means... I need the iPhoto file folder in an external HDD to use iPhoto that way.
Can i move the iPhoto folder onto an external HDD?
Will it work the same way, as if the iPhoto folder is on the internal drive?

    yes
    yes
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Will 10 wrong fingerprint attempts to access my iPhone 5s wipe out my data the same way 10 incorrect passcode attempts do?

Will 10 wrong fingerprint attempts to access my iPhone 5s wipe out my data the same way 10 incorrect passcode attempts do?

    Hi iMonk3y,
After five incorrect fingerprint attempts, Touch ID will revert to requiring a passcode:
    iPhone 5s: Using Touch ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5883
Using Touch ID instead of your passcode
You can use Touch ID to unlock your phone without having to enter your passcode every time. There are two ways you can unlock with Touch ID:
Press the Home button once to wake iPhone 5s and keep your finger lightly on the Home button.
Press the Sleep/Wake button once to wake iPhone 5s, and then touch your finger lightly on the Home button.
If Touch ID doesn't recognize your finger, you'll be asked to try again. After three attempts, you'll be given the option of entering your passcode. After two more tries, you will need to enter your passcode. In addition, you will need to enter your passcode to unlock your iPhone in these conditions:
    After restarting your iPhone 5s
When more than 48 hours have elapsed from the last time you unlocked your iPhone 5s
To enter the Passcode & Fingerprint setting

  • I do not see where to enter IP addresses in the Open VPN setup. Also, how can I set it up so that I can choose different servers in the same way as I can currently choose them with my VPN app but for PPTP?

I think I have it working on my iPhone 5. But, I do not see how I can control the exit point that I would like for the VPN. Are all the exit points shown in the VPN setting now going to work with Open VPN, or do they remain PPTP? If I am reading correctly, they look like they remain PPTP. If I cannot control the exit point for open VPN, which exit point is the default in the profile you provided me?I note that Open VPN Connect does not work with any of the new 64 bit devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the new iPad MIni. Is there any chance that you guys will come up with an update for your app so that open VPN can be made to work on all iOS devices? That would be nice, particularly if the Open VPN Connect app does not give me a choice of exit points. Thanks,

Just a quick note to tell you that Open VPN has updated their app so that it is compatible with 64 bit ARM devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the iPad Mini Retina. That does not resolve the problem of how to easily choose among the various possibilities for the exit server. We need to find an easy way to choose.

Thank you for trying the new Firefox. I'm sorry that you’re unhappy with the new design.
I understand your frustration and surprise at the removal of these features but I can't undo these changes. I'm just a support volunteer and I do not work for Mozilla. But you can send any feedback about these changes to http://input.mozilla.org/feedback. Firefox developers collect data submitted through there then present it at the weekly Firefox meeting
I recommend you try to adjust to 29 and see if you can't make it work for you before you downgrade to a less secure and soon outdated version of Firefox.
Here are a few suggestions for restoring the old design. I hope you’ll find one that works for you:

  • How do I save a photo after I have zoomed in on it?  I want to save the zoom-in as a new photo and can't work out why this doesn't work the same way saving a cropped image, or adjusted image does.  Thank you.

How do I save an image after I have zoomed in on it?  I can't work out why I can't save a zoom-in the same way
I can save a cropped image or an adjusted image. Thanks, Lily A.

Hi Matt, thanks for your reply.  Have realised that Zoom in Iphoto is just  a viewing tool and not an editing tool.
Was creating beautiful abstractions by zooming in and wanted to create a new image of the result.   Have since discovered that cropping after zooming takes me a little way to where I want to go but it isn't the same effect.  Will perhaps have to try to create it when actually shooting.  Am doing a photoshop course in February and maybe will learn a bit more then, too.  Am pretty much an amateur just finding my way.
    Thanks again,
    Best, Lily

  • HT204406 I have subscribed to match on iTunes and organized my music on my Mac Book.  Why does it not appear the same way on my iPad

I would like my music to appear organized in the same way on my iPad as I have done it on my Mac Book.  (and on my iPhone as well)  Since it is in the cloud, why does it not appear the same way in all devices?

The purpose of iTunes match is to make your music library available to all of your devices anywhere. It will sync Playlists, but no other type of organization you may have made.
If you're having trouble, be sure you are logged into the same Apple ID on all devices but be sure to read this article and pay special attention to associating your devices with an Apple ID. There are important restrictions you should know about.

  • Does the iPad 2 pass through TV the same way that the iPhone 4s does ?

Does the iPad 2 pass through TV the same way that the iPhone 4s does ? I have an Arcam rCube dock which allows the tv pass through from the iPhone 4s and I was wondering if the iPad 2 will do the same if I buy a dock extender and what should I check for in a dock extender ?

No - that feature does not exist on the iPad2 and I know of no plans - nor would anyone else here - for that feature to be added with a software update in the future.

  • How do i get a still image to fade the same way and at the same time as a video?

I have a video stacked on top of a still image. When i add a transition, the still turns to a black screen while the video fades in accordance to the transition. How do i get the still image to fade the same way and at the same time as the video?

I do. I've applied it to both the  still image and the video. Say i used the lens flare transition. If i apply it to both the video and the still image, the video will dissolve in to the next frame, but the still image will go to a black screen and then jump to the next frame. Its almost as if i inserted a black frame instead of a transition, but only for 2 seconds. Below is kind of a peek what it looks like.

  • Does the iPhone Remote control a Mac mini in the same way as ATV?

    My ATV1 has packed in.
Rather than having my MBP switched on just to listen to music through a new ATV to my hifi I am thinking of using a Mac Mini in the same way as ATV1.
Does the iPhone Remote work with the Mini the same way as it does with the ATV or do you need to use a mouse and switch on the screen?

If intending to use the Mini s a home theater system,
you may want to consider getting Rowmote or Rowmote Pro
app for the iPhone and the companion app for the Mac.
Not only will you get Apple Remote functionality, but
you will also get trackpad and keyboard functionality
as well.  This will make it even easier to navigate the
    Mini on the TV.

  • Typed tables is treated in the same way as a relational table?

I'd like to know if the internal struct of oracle treats a typed table (table that contains object) in the same way of a relational table. For example, if I insert an object (that contains the atribute name as varchar2) into a typed table, and insert a regular register (name as varchar2) into a relational table, theoretically the execution time for both inserts must be the same? Thanks.

    > I have written my comments from my experience.
I have used nested table with more 10+ levels with
more than 400+object types for our projects.
As you know bench mark is not done for 1 table or 1
object, it is done with major project usage .
In which case you're not benchmarking a specific feature, but the overall design of the system.
I too am using object tables for specific Oracle applications. And the advantages that this provide significantly outweigh the cons - and a single such application process in excess of a billion rows per month per object table per month.
    > If you think Object is faster than relational tables
in oracle then JAVA MUST BE FASTER THAN 'C' Language.
Where did I say that object tables are faster than relational tables? How about trying to read what I said and then trying to understand what I conveyed?
    I said that
    a) objects tables are marginally slower than relational tables
    b) this performance difference cannot be used as the primary deciding factor on whether to use object tables or not
As for your analogy that then "Java must be faster than C" is not relevant. Comparing apples with bananas. C is not C++. Java p-code is not machine code. So your analogy is meaningless and does not prove anything. Fact is that the speed of any programming language depends on numerous factors - and not just the language itself as you're are implying with this flawed analogy.
Besides, trying to compare ADTs in Oracle to Java Classes, is silly. These are different tools intended for different usage.
Bottom line - saying that ADTs and object tables in Oracle is "Bad" based purely on a marginal performance difference is idiotic. The design of the system and requirements of the system dictates the tools that are needed. And one of those tools can be and will be ADTs and object tables in certain cases.

  • How to get pictures organised the same way on the iPad as they are on the PC?

When syncing pictures from my PC to my iPad the same albums are shown on my iPad as on my PC, but the pictures seems to be organised in random order within the albums, i.e. they are not organised the same way as on my PC. I've named all pictures on my PC and organised them based on name. Does anyone know how I can get iTunes/the iPad to sync the pictures in the same order?
    Best regards,
    Cecilie

Are you syncing the photos by selecting folders or by selecting a photo app that you have on your computer ? If you are syncing folders then they will be sorted by their 'date modified' fields (I assume that still applies on iOS 8), not by their filenames - so you will need to amend their 'modified' fields to be in the order that you want them to show in.
Or there are third-party photo management apps such as Photo Manager Pro (help pages) - you can copy photos to/from that app and your computer, and you can change the sort order of albums within the app.

  • I have an old airport that still works, can you use it the same way that one uses an airport express to extend the range of an airport extreme base station?

It would save me a few bucks if I could use an old airport that I have to extend the range of a new airport extreme.  My concept would simply be to use the old Airport the same way I would use a newer Airport Express as a slave repeater.  Is this doable?

Both the new AirPort Extreme and older AirPort Express will have to be configured using Apple's WDS settings to provide more wireless coverage.
    Here are the downsides:
WDS operates only at "g" wireless speeds, so you will lose all of the faster "n" wireless capability of the new AirPort Extreme
WDS cuts the bandwidth on the entire network in half, so you will have a "g" wireless network running at half speed.
WDS is difficult for most users to configure because it is easy to make a mistake and hard to recover without starting all over again
Bottom line......Saving a few bucks will be very costly in terms of performance on your network.

  • Can I make basic adjustments to RAW files in PS the same way I do with jpgs using levels+clone tool?

I have basic knowledge of photoshop and normally just work with Jpegs. I need to edit some RAW files can I open them in Photoshop and work on them the same way as jpegs. I would only need to do some basic levels adjustments and use the clone tool. Is photoshop the best application to use for editing raw files?

Starting with RAW affords you more toning flexibility with white-balance and white/black points, and more sharpening and noise-reduction flexibility, than starting with JPGs where the camera has taken care of such things and the adjustments are baked in and cannot be changed.
The camera-raw plug-in for Photoshop is very good for working with individual raw files.  If you are switching your photography from JPG to RAW then Lightroom has the same adjustments as the PS CR plug-in but is more efficient when working with many files compared to Bridge and Photoshop.
Personally, because I shoot only RAW photos, now, I switched from using PS/CR to LR quite a few years ago, and rarely go to PS anymore.  Since you are used to PS, your old habits will probably still be with you, so you may find yourself doing a minimal amount of editing in CR.
Because you’re are dealing with RAW sensor data, you will want to pay attention to the WB and black/white points as well as sharpening and noise-reduction before opening the RAW files in PS for your normal PS adjustments.
